Burrito the size of an 8lbs baby

Food is delicious, large portions, ok prices for the area, service is friendly but not that fast. They also have a small salsa bar and fountain drink refills. The outdoor seating area needs some repairs and maybe more shade/umbrellas. Parking is limited but most people are in and out so just give it a sec if it's full. Our kids love to hit this place up after a day at the beach.

I grew up in La Jolla and went to high school down the street at Santa Fe Christian so I've been to this location and countless other Roberto's over the decades. I would say they are most known for their delicious salsa and OK burritos. Most of my other favorite burrito spots have closed down over the years, but Roberto's is always consistently a good option. They don't have the best version of burritos, fish tacos, or other items, but they always do the job and fill you up for a cheap price. This location is right next to the beach just off the 101 and has a lot of free parking attached. They don't have indoor seating, just outdoor tables, but this is more of a to go type of place. Everything that we order is always made very fast so you won't have to be waiting long. The burrito invented in San Diego is called the California Burrito so it's what I've been ordering since high school and get every single time. Their fish tacos are pretty good as well, but they have gotten a lot smaller over the years. I would say that you must get their medium salsa no matter what you order as that is their best item. I have been countless times and will be back many times in the future.

Their carne asada burrito is good again! Tried again after avoiding for a couple years b/c of management change. Carnitas burrito was mediocre :/

Not the best ever but not the worst. We have been going to this Roberto's and the one near Torrey Pines for years. It's good and the location is perfect for a lunch or dinner of "burritos on the beach." The horchata is very good and I really enjoy their verde salsa. It's been consistently good over the years. I recommend if you're hungry for some Mexican food after your time at the beach or on the beach as you walk to Tides Beach a few steps and stairs away.

The outside patio is especially pleasant and makes for a great place to sit, enjoy your meal, and take in the fresh ocean air. Being so close to the ocean really adds to the experience and gives the whole place a laid back coastal feel. The menu features Mexican and Latin fusion food with some creative and flavorful options. Everything I tried felt thoughtfully prepared and well balanced. The cucumber margarita was incredibly refreshing with a bright cucumber flavor and just the right touch of sweetness. It was crisp, light, and perfect for the setting. The seaside molcajete was a standout dish for me. It is a hearty seafood stew served bubbling hot and packed with different kinds of seafood. If you enjoy seafood, this is definitely something worth ordering. The Baja fish tacos were also very satisfying with thick pieces of fish that were flaky and flavorful. It is a simple dish but done very well. I also tried the chicken enchiladas which came as a comforting plate with a little bit of everything. The chicken was tender and the dish had a rich and satisfying flavor. Overall Tamarindo Del Mar is a great spot if you are looking for Mexican and Latin inspired dishes in a relaxed coastal setting. Everything else on the menu is much more expensive, probably to offset the costs of these fish tacos. Would I ever try them? Probably not. With order to table service, both a salsa and alcoholic bar, and pet-friendly outdoor seating, this place runs on little, but delivers a lot, and can accomodate large parties. Fidel's was always the go to main spot, but it would often get too busy and crowded so Tony's Jacal was a solid second option. It's a traditional sit down Mexican restaurant with truly great flavors and quick service. It's quite large on the inside, they have indoor seating and out, and when you sit down you're given a number and then when you are ready to check out and pay, you leave the table and give the cashier your number and then pay at the front. A unique system, but it works. Parking is also extremely easy, there are plenty of free spaces all around the restaurant as there is a large parking lot attached on the side and then back. Everything that we ordered came out very fast and our server was friendly. I started off with a cup of the Albondigas Soup and loved it. It really hit the spot on a cold November night and I would happily order it again. For my entrée, I chose the El Rey combo and selected Carne Asada and Chile Colorado (red). Both were great as expected and the tortillas were fresh and delicious. Every part of the meal was honestly really good and I have zero complaints. Pricing is fair, the menu is huge, and service is fast. It's a great option if you're in the mood for some great Mexican food.

NOT DOG FRIENDLY…read more Came in on a Friday around 1:15 PM. The patio had a few tables already seated and looked nice at first glance. The experience started off a bit off-putting. There's a sign saying no dogs allowed on the patio, which felt odd for an outdoor space. We were told dogs weren't allowed, even though another table had a dog sitting there. Our dogs are registered service animals, and when that came up, the interaction felt tense rather than straightforward. We ultimately said we'd take our business elsewhere, especially since there are other restaurants very close by. After that, the situation shifted. One of the staff members ended up seating us, and our server was genuinely great. She was kind, attentive, and easily the best part of the service experience. Another staff member did seem a bit uncomfortable or standoffish when bringing waters, but things improved once our server took over. Food-wise, I ordered the turkey taco and enchilada combo with rice and beans. They're known for turkey dishes, but it didn't really stand out to me. The turkey was on the dry side. The beef enchilada was better and pretty standard for Tex-Mex. The salsa had a solid heat to it, which I didn't care for. They don't serve queso, which was surprising. I also tried the guacamole, but it tasted more processed than fresh, so I wouldn't order that again. We also tried one of their popular margaritas, which our server recommended. It was fine, nothing memorable, but not bad either. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. At checkout, the same staff member who initially handled the dog situation was much friendlier and even gave us a chocolate on the house, which was a nice gesture and appreciated. Overall, the patio is cute and the service from our server was excellent. That said, the initial welcome and inconsistent handling of the patio policy left a bad first impression. Food was average. I don't see myself coming back though.
