The clearly the shift leader was probably the rudest lady I've ever met . Trying to bully me into changing my order to be more convenient since it was kind of late and not wanting to use the grill. So I ask extra nicely and understand that they just clean the grill but then hear manager &17 yr old cook guy talk bad about me. I've lived in Encinitas for a long time but I've only visited this store a couple of times. I didn't realize that they make each sandwich to order and cut the meat fresh for each order. Very impressive! I started talking to the young lady who was making my order and I could tell there was something special about her. She had a great attitude and was friendly--something you don't see enough of from some restaurant employees. After more talking, I asked her if she was a manager there, and she said yes. I came here to have dinner with my girlfriend and we both ordered a #16 which is the Chicken Philly. I told the girl that was making my sandwich that I wanted mayo, tomatoes, lettuce and grilled pickles on it; she doesn't write it down like other employees do when you order. While me and my girlfriend were observing her making my sandwich I saw her put the tomatoes on the grill (when I never said for grilled tomatoes) and she even puts the lettuce on the grill (when I never wanted the lettuce to be grilled) then she mixes the grilled lettuce with the chicken, onions and peppers and scoops it all from the grill into my sandwich. I took a few bites out of the sandwich and I couldn't taste the juice that's supposed to be coming from the tomato and the lettuce tasted and looked disgusting. I had to throw it away because the sandwich just tasted nasty. I seriously thought that I was going to throw up after taking bites out of that sandwich. Seriously who puts lettuce on the grill?! If this girl is working the next time my girlfriend and I decide to eat at Jersey Mike's then we are going some place else! read more

Although there was a long line, they were moving quickly as the staff were fast. On top of that, they were all very pleasant and welcoming. I had never been to Jersey Mike's and assumed it was another version of Subway. Pleasantly, it was far from it. I love that they don't have pre cut cold cuts and cheeses. They cut it quickly as you order. You can definitely taste the difference. The bread was very fresh and tasty as well. When they're done pilling on your proteins, you have options of toppings to suit your tastes. Definitely was better than Subway and I'll definitely be back. read more

So I always give the benefit of the doubt, I understand mistakes happen. That being said, I have ordered delivery from this particular location 3 times in about a month. 1st time both of our giant subs were completely wrong, even though in the confirmation it lists every detail of how they were requested. I went in the next day and they replaced my sandwiches. Great, I'll give them another chance. 2nd time same exact order and both sandwiches were missing the juices. Ok, not the worst. Finally, just now I received my delivery of the same two giants I've ordered in the past and wow, they were both made right. Like most I started eating at the franchise years ago when they popped but and was kind of on the fence but then with a few more recent visits to this location (which is closest to home), I'm coming around! Service here is efficient, it's a tiny place but they move em' in and get em' out considering everything is done to order and as you know, the meat is sliced "when" you order. It was for a good cause. I took a few months off of Yelping and had quite a backlog when I decided to come back. Because of that, I've strayed away from writing about places where I'd just eaten. But a mix of good deed (all proceeds today went to Rady's Children's Hospital) with utter disappointment (despite many friends raving about this joint) made me really want to get all this down before too long. It's sad to think that the standard everyone thinks of when talking about sub sandwiches is Subway; I reflected on that when writing about Subman the other day. And, when you get down to it, Subway is kinda shitty. Pre-sliced everything, dry and bland bread, and cheese where the 'processed' comes through in all six senses (yeah, you heard me); it's edible, but only just. Well, Jersey Mike's is better ... but only just. First and foremost, this place is really pricey. And for that price, you don't seem to get much. Sure, the "giant sandwich" is a bit over 14" in size ... but you're gonna pay around $1.00/inch for that meal. Add in the fact their bread is as dry and bland as Subway (and without the option of some crap baked into it), and it's tough to get excited about taking a bite. I think their only claim to fame seems to the amount of meat they stuff into their bread (which, again to make the comparison, is maybe about half as much more than what you would get at Subway). But, take a peek at their fridge behind the counter, and you can see what quality of meat they are slicing. Seriously, it's the "Jersey Mike's" brand of processed meat. It looks exactly like something you would get at Walmart or off a pallet from a third world military supply drop in the desert. Careful, Famous Dave's, you might have competition. I had The Original Italian, which tasted much more sour than salty and, either, creamy (from mayonnaise) or sweet (from lettuce and dressing), which is really the way it should be. There's no shame in vinegar on the sandwich, but there really should be that counterbalance to it that you rarely seem to find outside of an actual deli. I don't think I've ever seen a franchise sandwich shop that had it, to be honest; and I don't think I've ever seen one that had more than one basic style of vinegar ... a Balsamic would really be nice ... hmm... Anyway, my girlfriend had their Big Kahuna Cheesesteak. Despite what I noted earlier, there didn't seem to be the same level of meat in this sammich as others. Upon inspection, it apparently was because the bread was cut only halfway through, with the ends being closed as well, allowing for a shallow pouch that couldn't be 'stuffed' as much as the cold sandwiches. Add in the fact that there was an obvious dearth of mushrooms and peppers when compared to the bland steak and cheese (it should be a lot of everything!), and it dropped below the level of "eh, nothing-all-that-special." Our son had the Ham and Cheese which he had one bite of and spit out. Having a bite of my own and it was easy to see why. The dryness of the bread hit a whole new level with this one, with only mayonnaise to bring any moisture and the ham having just the barest hint of flavor, we brought it home and promptly tossed it after it taunted us from the counter for an hour and a half. All of that and a bag of chips ... for about $25 ... and a collective sigh from all of us. Still, despite the suckiness, it was for a good cause; kind of like donating blood, I guess ... hey, we even got a free cookie! So, in the end, two stars. Jersey Mike's is only slightly less shitty than Subway. read more

Jersey mikes is awesome and this location is no different. The location is a bit hard to find if you don't know the area, but it is near Aaron brothers and McDonald's in east Encinitas. The food here is awesome, like usual, go for either the Cali club, the regular club or the Philly cheesesteak and you can think me later. The staff here is always friendly and the establishment is always extremely clean. Highly recommended if you're looking for a good sub in Encinitas. I've been to several Jersey Mike's Subs while traveling for work for a quick dinner on the way to the hotel. This iteration was while working in Carlsbad. All of the shops I've been to are pretty much the same, which is kind of refreshing, you know what you're going to get when you walk through the door. This time I had a regular size Italian sub Mike's way which is lettuce, tomato, onion, salt, pepper, herbs, oil and vinegar. On an herbed Parmesan roll. The bread is such that it stands up to the oil and vinegar which is nice, and the meats are cut fresh to order for your sandwich so it may take a bit longer than at other sandwich shops. I think that it's worth the wait. read more

I just want to mention that Jersey Mike's subs has a really great sandwich and excellent employees working there. Lucy is top notch and yes....she is so fast at making a delicious sub. Eli is a wonderful and kind person and he makes a great sub also. The store is always clean. I would say the only thing they need is a little Air Conditioning because it's stuffy as all get out at times. I am so glad they are close to my home and I really enjoy the food and I go there often. A very solid 4 stars. Their sandwiches really are very good and oh so fresh. I love the fact that everything is fresh--the meat is sliced in front of you while you are in line. Sometimes the lines look daunting--especially in a smalish shop--but they move quickly. I have tried several of their sammies but keep returning to the "Italian" one. You probably pay a buck more than you would at--gag--Subway--but the quality of the food, and of the service, is well worth it. They have Tastykakes, too! What more could you want? read more

A little disappointed They are definitely more expensive than Subway but, they seem to give you more meat. I had a coupon for buy one get one free- went with a co-worker . (Yes this IS MY fault for not reading the coupon....) It was only good in Vista and San Marcos. They would NOT honor the coupon. My Italian sandwich was good, but the gluten free bread was not :( It was unfortunately so dry I had to remove it and just eat the insides of my sandwich. I was so bummed! I think Jersey Mike's does a good job. I like that they slice the meat in front of you, and I would say the ingredients are of a much higher quality than most of their chain competitors. I love the shredded lettuce. This is the 5th Jersey Mike's I've been to (3 in Santa Clarita + Solana Beach), and they are consistently good. Even though the place is solid and consistently good, I can't let this review go without a few hopefully constructive criticisms. First, this Encinitas location is buried deep inside the Encinitas Ranch Town Center. It is a great shopping center, but you really have to want to get to Jersey Mike's. Heading South on El Camino, turn right into the main entrance, turn right at the stop sign, turn right again at the car wash, go to the end and turn left at Aaron Brothers - Jersey Mike's is all the way in the back left corner. Tough location, but it is always busy so people make it their destination. Second, there are too few tables. Between Jersey Mike's and the thai place next door, it is tough to find a table outside, and inside the place is tiny. It feels even smaller when there is a line of people queued up right where you're trying to enjoy your delicious sandwich. Third, no, I don't want my sandwich prepared "Mike's way", by which they mean with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, vinegar, oil and spices. The staff always look so deflated and maybe even a little offended when I tell them no. Fourth, and this is my biggest problem with all Jersey Mike's, the roast beef doesn't taste. I feel like even when I ask for a heavy hand with the oil, salt & pepper, mayo, whatever, I can't get enough flavor out of the roast beef in particular. I like it, I just want to taste it more. So yesterday I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap instead, with the melted American cheese, lettuce and tomato. I nixed the blue cheese dressing in favor of the ranch. My problem with the roast beef? Problem solved. Lastly, I don't find the place to be relaxing. They really crank and I love the sense of urgency. Those guys crank the meat slicers and they seem to value my time as much as I do. I appreciate that - I really do. But I like to slow down a bit and enjoy my lunch, which can be tough through all the noise, hurry and commotion. read more

So a new location opens in the area... I'm starting to think this is a high priced subway. But no no no no no, I am mistakenly wrong after sampling a few items from the menu. I was told to order the big kahuna cheesesteak with the chipotle sauce (minus the jalapenos and peppers). We came in on a Saturday. It wasn't very busy and there were probably 10 teenagers wandering around behind the counter. The problem is, it was very dirty. Trash overflowing and on the counters. Dirty tables. We sat a the table that looked the "least dirty". The ice machine wasn't working and the no one mentioned this as we ordered a drink! So, we're drinking a warm flat soda at a dirty table. The last straw was one worker finally decided it was time to take the overflowing trash out through the restaurant. He did not replace the liner so people continued to place trash on the counter. read more
