This place always has really good food but it also has an exceptionally customer satisfaction. I ordered salmon tacos with corn tortillas and it arrived with flour which was not a deal maker for me. As soon as my server saw the mistake without me saying anything she asked if she could remake my order and apologized. I told her it not to think about it. Then a manager arrived insisting they correct their mistake to which I said it's really not a problem as I was enjoin the tacos. Then one more person came over to apologize again. Finally they insisted on buying me dessert for their mistake. I declined since I was so full and happy with my dinner. This blew me away. They really care and I will return again and again and bring friends. They get 5+ stars in my book. read more

The ladies and I had a great lunch here recently. They sat us in a super comfy booth inside. I started with a hibiscus margarita (not on the menu, but they can make it). It was AWESOME. Not too sweet, not too tart. So refreshing and delicious. Everyone wanted clam chowder but when I saw smoked salmon chowder on the menu I knew I needed to have it. Where I'm from originally in Canada, this is more common, so I JUMP when I see it on any menu. Fishbar's version is definitely their own. A little salty, but really nice texture and flavor. Love the dill addition! A cup (as opposed to a bowl) goes a looooong way! Yum. I had the grilled fish tacos - 3.5/5. More fish, less cabbage please. The flavor was good though. Service was excellent. I felt like we were getting some kind of team waitressing. A little too pretentious... Came here with my wife and toddler and the two female hosts were rude and very unwelcoming. At this point, we already knew we were not going to dine here. We were told there would be a 30 minute wait time, but when we looked inside, most of the tables were empty and no one was waiting outside. I was thinking of stopping by Fishing With Dynamite and then I remembered FishBar. My previous experience was very positive so I changed my plans. I also remembered how easy and convenient parking was across the street in the metered structure. I ordered a bowl of the New England clam chowder, a half dozen raw oysters, and the coconut crusted mahi mahi. I really enjoyed the chowder and the very fresh oysters. The fish was very attractive and a generous serving with a very subtle coconut flavor. I ordered online via ChowNow and my order was ready soon after opening time. Everything was packed very neatly with all the condiments, oyster crackers, plastic utensils, and even some sourdough bread and butter. The oysters were packed with ice and lemon wedges. With TVs playing current sports games and light music playing in the background, it's social vibe easily makes it an attractive spot to have happy hour or a quick dinner. I ordered the Cioppino which was mixed seafood (shrimp, salmon, clams, mussels, and squid) drenched with their house tomato and garlic broth served over linguini pasta and a side of french bread. I also ordered buffalo wings which ended up being too much for one person (I'm in town for work so only dined for one). My meal was great -- I finished everything except for the buffalo wings which I packed to take back to my hotel. Happy New Year 2023. I am happy to write a revised review of FishBar in Manhattan Beach. Their service and quality of seafood was excellent when we had dinner last night. Our server Justin and his team were friendly and contributed to a very nice evening. They have a nice Happy Hour with a nice selection of wines and cocktails. The New England clam chowder was superb with nice meaty clams, along with very fresh sourdough bread. Oysters Rockefeller are not on the menu but they made them quite tasty. We have always enjoyed their lobster dinner especially with the steaming and finishing off on the mesquite grill which adds extra flavor. All the sides were tasty including the grilled asparagus, mac and cheese, broccoli and cole slaw. Our hostess was cheerful and communicative, and set the tone for an amazing evening. The menu has a lot of options, and we were having a lot of debating what to get. Sometimes fond old memories can set you up for disappointment with present day realities. Such was the case when we were trying to find a great little spot for clam chowder and warm sourdough break last night. There used to be such places in days gone by, before Americans got sold on super-sizing and way too much food at many meals. We did find one like that in Cayucos a few months ago - a coastal casual dining establishment specializing in chowder and burgers. I was hoping for one like it somewhere between Torrance and El Segundo. It wasn't for lack of trying, nor of poking around lesser known areas. After driving for miles and with sunset coming on, I chose FishBar as the place to stop. Though it's a couple blocks from the beach, the building isn't situated to look out to the ocean. That was the first disappointment. We did find a tight space in the double-decker parking garage nearby, with metered parking until 9 PM every day. The hostess was able to seat us promptly, in a tucked-away booth with ample throw pillows to compensate for the lack of support from the seat backs. Though the eclectic beachy decor was fun to be embraced by, we were also encompassed by a high noise level. Sensory stimulation abounded - there are TV's all around the room, with a variety of sports and other content on in case you don't want to talk with your dining companions. Service was hit or miss. Our waitress was very friendly, but I think she had too many tables to really provide great attention. The runners who brought out the food were there and gone. We had to ask for bread, which is one treat at a seaside restaurant - fresh sourdough, right? We actually asked twice before bread was served. It looked the part, but lacked the delicious tang that defines a great sourdough. I ordered a cup of New England clam chowder. Well done - great texture, with lots of clams, and not overwhelmed with potatoes as some might serve. Would have liked that bread to go with it, but it came later, when I was having their version of Cobb salad. I should have asked for the dressing on the side, as they had tossed it, and left it too naked in some areas of the bowl. It was adequate, but not outstanding. DH went for the salmon chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. He was happy with his choice. I sampled his soup; it seemed a bit salty to my taste. For dessert i picked the salted caramel cookie offering - salted caramel ice cream wedged between two chocolate chip cookies, partially dipped in dark chocolate, and dusted with sea salt. It must have been halved in the kitchen with the whack of a cleaver. It was so deeply frozen that you could have played hockey with it. DH was seriously annoyed at how difficult it was to eat. He complained to the runner, and she shrugged. Hmm. There was an excess of the salt additive, and while the ice cream was very good, the cookie lacked flavor of its own. Due to this being an attractive and interesting venue, the lack of excellence in the food, plus the uneven service really dropped it down in our estimation. It should have been 3.5 to 4 stars, but we felt underwhelmed by the experience, and so relieved to be outside where we could hear again! read more

If you're a seafood fan, you'll enjoy the menu here. The menu is extensive and you kind of feel overwhelmed because you don't know what to order! There seems to be a daily special on the weekdays which is nice if you live close enough. The interior is deceptively spacious. When you walk in, it looks a little crammed with the bar protruding outward which gives the restaurant less seating space. But once you venture off to the right, it opens up to a huge dining area. I got an order of the salmon off the mesquite grilled section. It comes with two side dishes and I chose garlic fries and steamed broccoli. Luckily, there are a lot of options to choose from. I thought the salmon was decent but not something to rave about. The sides were also alright. In hindsight, I should've ordered the lobster mac n cheese... maybe next time. For dessert, we got the sticky bun ice cream sundae and I thought it was way better than my salmon dish! The cinnamon roll was warm and it was delicious with the cold vanilla ice cream. That was about the highlight of my meal. In terms of service, I was very disappointed. Our server was not attentive all night. It was very tough to track down an employee whenever we had a request. When we asked our waitress to itemize the bill, it came back completely wrong! At the end of the day, the food is alright here. The service could use some improvement. read more

I am giving this restaurant this rating mainly due to lack of service. I used to come here quite often a few years ago when I lived nearby. I was so excited and have been looking forward to returning to this restaurant as it's been about 4 years since I've been back. The food, well I should say appetizers were delicious as usual, but our waitress Tiana was terrible! She took our drink and appetizer order which was fine, but then asked us twice if we were ready to order our main meals, which we weren't. So our appetizers came and drinks which were delivered by other people. We were completely done with our appetizers and she never came back to take our order. We were hungry and wanted to eat before we had an event to go to, but we were over it and just wanted to leave. We noticed another table waiting for her as well. The restaurant was not busy at all. I counted about 9 tables that were occupied but they had 2 waitresses and plenty of others helping out. We ended up eating at a birria taco truck (Birrieria Gomez) down in Inglewood that had much better service and had great tasting food! Seriously very disappointing as I loved coming here and don't think I will be back for awhile. Other than this experience, I used to have nice service years ago. Came here last night after wanting to try this place out for a while. It wasn't terrible but it didn't exceed my expectations. Ordered Cod Fish and Chips. The Cod tasted old, it didn't have any flavor to it, the batter was okay, that didn't have much flavor to it either. It was fried correctly. The fries didn't have any real taste to them as well but they were perfectly fried. We also ordered a Smoked Salmon Chowder and that was good, we were happy with that. Had this place bookmarked since it stopped being Sharkeez and started being FishBar. My tastebuds are upset it took me THIS long to swing by! It was DELICIOUS! And the best part, really affordable! Great prices for great food, and great service! Our server Midwest Mike, was just thee cutest, sweetest, funnest dude! It was a busy Wednesday, summer night, which is typical for Manhattan Beach, so it was packed, but we got seated in 20 minutes. Yay. Our party of 4 couldn't decide what we wanted, so we ordered a lil bit of everything off the appetizer menu. Even at that, we couldn't decide so Mike helped us decided, and he did not steer us wrong. Hostesses are OK, but very aloof. Usually seated quickly and at appropriate tables for the groups we bring Ambiance: Very nice. Sometimes music is a bit loud, but not terrible. Very informal, but doesn't feel weird if you come dressed for work. All types and it somehow seems to work. Price: A bit high, but not outrageous for the area. But food and service are good, so IMO acceptable. Overall: Has become one of my favorite places in the area for lunch. I've probably been here with groups of 2 to 15. Always been a team favorite. This is my favorite place in Manhattan Beach (second is manhattan beach post). It's located on the far end of the beach area away from the pier so I guess you can consider it more "lowkey." There used to be a parking structure on the other side of the street (called Lot 4) from the restaurant but I believe it's been torn down sometime during COVID. Nonetheless, there's plenty of meter street parking around the area and even on the entire Rosecrans Avenue. I love this restaurant because the food is actually really affordable for seafood compared to Fishing with Dynamite. It's definitely underrated and I love supporting underrated places like this. For two people we decided to order and share the following: Dozen Oysters (Assorted/Chef's Choice) (4/5) - The oysters were fresh but I did not really like the housemade vinegar dressing that they provided. Parking was located just across the street. We did have to pay the meter but it wasn't much. We ordered Brussels sprouts, lobster and claim chowder soup, lobster guac (yessssss!! And it was BOMB) and several other things. Before I get into the food, I have to stop and pay homage to the staff. Hands down some of the best service I've had. All the waitresses assisted each other. They knew the menu from top to bottom and were really well rounded in hospitality. They gave me all the feels. Super friendly. Fun. A complete vibe!! Now to the food. Those damn Brussels are sinful. Crispy, savory, little flavor bombs. I should have ordered a second serving. The guac was different. I loved it. Definitely a must try. Solo diner early on a sunday evening. I would have preferred a booth or table but the host pushed me into a high top in the bar (seat was fairly uncomfortable). I wasn't super pumped about that. Having said that, my server was so good, so on top of her game, it more than made up for it. I was initially going to go with the grilled lobster but the server recommended the chiopino and I went with her. I was glad I did. The broth was really nice. I think it had some cream or dairy in it and the serving of fish and shellfish were good. The freshly baked sourdough was A+. I do think the pre-packaged butter does the bread a disservice. I use to live in el Porto, which made coming here very convenient. I remember when they first opened, I was pleasantly surprised they renovated the old sharkeez into a nice space, but I've never been too impressed with the food. I gave it two tries in the past week. Fish and chips weee ok, a little small on portion size. Also had the chopped salad a couple times, lettuce is never crisp, and the blue cheese dressing is mostly buttermilk (don't bother). Today I went for taco Tuesday, where margaritas and tacos are on special. I think they make up for the cheaper prices with being cheaper than normal in portion size. The $10 margarita must have a small shot, and lots of ice. $15 for two shrimp "tacos"... 3 small shrimp in each taco, mostly cabbage and pico de gallo. Tacos tasted good, but I probably could have eaten 6 of them, so much for a cheap taco night. Service is usually pretty good l.
