This review is for the Salmon Soba Noodle Salad only. This is the first time I'm trying this dish and was very happy with the generous sized salmon which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Same goes for the tempura slice of kabocha. What I didn't care for was the large pieces of lettuce and slices of tomatoes. If the lettuce could be torn into bite sized pieces and the tomatoes diced and sprinkled onto the soba noodles, it would be easier to eat. There were no knives included. We've been coming here for a years. The lobster rolls alone were worth the planned road trip, and always on our recommends for island visitors. The loads of fresh lobster was simply delectable and kept us coming back. But the cost at $20ea, made it our occasional weekend treat. With the strain of Covid, we did more than our part to patron all our favorites, to help them weather the storm. We understood there would be corners cut and price/value skews, but they kept coming. The last few trips the rolls cost considerably more, and the lobster is now more of a lobster/mayo mix, with much less meat. We agreed it was more like a chunky chicken salad, but with lobster. Also, the rolls used to be 'to die for', but as of late,they've been greasy and almost microwavey. We're reallyin' hopin' for the best, and look forard to trying again down the road. read more

The polenta was perfect, the tomato sauce was so good that we got spoons to eat what was left on our plates and the meatballs were perfect. A wonderful break after eating survival food at home for several weeks of stay at home. We cannot wait to go back and disrupt another week of shelter at home with a fabulous take out from Feast. Went to the "FEAST" by Chef Matsubara I ordered the hilo hamburger steak with 2oz extra mushroom gravy and umami mac potato salad. It comes with rice of course as the starch. I also got 2X sambal chili sauce and chili peppa water. I drive all the way from mililani so might as well get more than just the plate. Prices are reasonable considering the owner is a well established and experienced chef in Oahu. Employee on the phone was pleasant I called to let them know I was coming down for pickup. I went in the restaurant and it's a nice place and I saw Jon there and made small talk with him. He's a cool guy and had a good conversation with him and he got to know my background and I got to know his. I found the feast on YouTube channel "Where Hawaii eats" with Anne Lee. I didn't know he had a restaurant but knew he was a chef with the greats of Alan Wong and others. He has a diverse background in the culinary industry. So yeah it was pretty cool talking with him that alone was worth going all the way down to manoa. So I got home and tried the hamburger steak it was very good one of the best I had. The patty was soft and big island local beef which is better than mainland beef and why support mainland conglomerates we should be supporting our local kamaaina establishments here that's our kuleana. The mushroom gravy was awesome best I had it's a dark brown gravy. I could eat that over only rice that's how good it was. Mac salad was good too with plenty flavor. Was really looking forward to Covid Date nite. Lobster rolls in a park at sunset on ALOHA Friday with my sweetie. Looked really yummy. Bun was well toasted and warm & a nice fit. Disappointed that while abundant, the lobster was cold so it was like eating cold butter. Because the bun was warm I expected the meat to at least be room temp or warm so you could really taste the flavor of the lobster and enjoy some dripping butter. We ordered a side of drawn butter that wasn't really "drawn" because it had the milky water on the bottom. Warm butter on cold lobster isn't very festive. I enjoyed The fresh dill and squeeze of lemon. Fries were DOA. Didn't care that portion was tiny because they were cold and hard. If you're going to do take out, figure out a way for the food to translate or keep. There's no reason for any part of a $21 sandwich to be bleh or inedible. $2 extra for the salad was a nice option tho not at all a generous portion...yummy and fresh but skimpy on the lettuce, one tiny slice of Roma tomato and a half slice of cuke. Hmmm., really? At that price and level of experience, the chef should present everything on the plate at the same caliber. I'll give it the sandwich a 3.5-3.7 fries not worth the space they took up. We had a very nice, light lunch there. The menu is on the small side, but the food was wonderful and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I especially appreciate their use of compostable service containers and materials that can be recycled. An additional option for those who don't eat beef or pork would have been handy, but I didn't ask about substitutes. Something I'll explore next time. read more

Changes.... There is so much that I like about Feast. I love the location and the building it is in. It is a really unique space and I love the arched entrances. I love that this is a small, family run business. I love their cookies, especially their chocolate chip cookies with big chunks of chocolate. I adore their firebird sauce that accompanies the JFC. I also love their keto mac salad, which is cauliflower with slivers of cucumber in a light, tangy dressing. I've frequented Feast since they first opened and have always ordered their JFC, which is their fried chicken. It is usually perfectly crispy & moist, sliced in nice sized chunks. It's lovely to dip into their firebird sauce. For some reason, Feast decided to change their JFC. Instead of boneless thighs, they switched to little drummettes. Unfortunately, I didn't know they switched the chicken they serve until I opened my container. I'm bummed because it is not the same and I wished they would let customers know about the change. I'm not a fan of little drummettes and wouldn't have ordered it if I had known. I really wished they would have noted the change so that their regular customers would have known about the change. If a restaurant prepares a certain dish in a certain way, I think it is reasonable to let their customers know if there's a change in the way they prepare the dish. This was the last time I'll visit Feast. I really didn't like the new JFC. However, I wish them much success. read more

Fantastic food with friendly service. Between the 3 of us, we tried the crab and bacon sandwich, the Feast Deluxe and one of the specials, an ahi poke and fried chicken combo AND the chocolate cake with marshmallow brûlée. I was very excited for the Deep Dish Pizza Special that was supposed to be equivalent to a Chicago style pizza and only occurs once in a blue moon...according to one yelp enthusiast. The pizza we received was well over priced, subpar, and barely had a thickness of a penny. That's right, a single penny. Deep dish pizzas are supposed to be...well...Deep. A real disappointment. Maybe this place just cut quality because of COVID. Either way, what a disappointment. I LOVED the lobster roll from Burger & Lobster in London (£26) so when I saw this I thought to have to try it. I did enjoy it and I thought the portion was correct (see photo) for the $21. The shoestring fries were quite good also. There was a small bit of shell in the lobster but that is understandable. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I was still hungry after I ate everything. Shouldn't be hungry after spending $21 for lunch. read more

I didn't like it. It was up-iddy local food but not as satisfying. I had the crab sandwich and my bf had the hamburger steak with fried chicken. My sand was just ok- nothing special. I guess with it being so expensive I thought I'd be blown away with flavor and get big bites of meat. But not the case- there was too much fillers. My bf felt the same about his hamburger steak where the expectations were greater than the result. I also got a scone and the special dessert of the day which was a lemon bar- super sweet and tart. My boyfriend and I would regularly get the lobster roll and fries combo about once a month as a delectable treat. This lobster roll was the best I've found on island so far, not just because of the generous lumps of lobster meat, but also because of the crispy, thin cut, perfectly seasoned fries as well. After our very first roll I would often dream of this meal and salivate when telling others about how amazingly tasty it was. Sad to say that we went today for the first time in a couple of months (we were off island) and everything seemed different. The fries were no longer the thin crispy fries you couldn't stop eating no matter how full you were. There was a visible increase in the amount of green onions and celery used in the lobster mixture and a noticeable decrease in the amount of lumps of meat. The amount of filling seems to be less in general and now feels much more like a roll with a side of lobster instead of a lobster roll. There also seemed to be a lot more mayo or filler used possibly causing the filling to be a little watery. Some may have said that this lobster roll was a little pricey, but I definitely used to think it was worth every penny and would highly recommend it. I'm not certain if we will be back, but I sure do hope Feast changes back to their old ways and bring back the fantastic lobster roll they once had! read more

I really tried to like this place. I eaten there about 1/2 dozen times. Food is decent. A bit overpriced for what you get. The fried chicken is the best thing on the menu. Unfortunately the service is about on par with a midnight run to Jack-in-The-Box. Last time I went, I placed a phone order and selected pickup time to try one of their "famous" lobster rolls. Waited like 1/2 hour, went down, no lobster roll order for me. Now, normally messing up an order isn't a big deal. I worked food service for 5 years, so I get that mistakes can happen and orders get lost. What turned me off was the appalling attitude of the young guy at the register. Limited acknowledgement when I came in, no apologies, no nothing. I ended up ordering another lobster roll anyway, but no rush order from this guy. Just another 30min wait. Decided to tack a couple of their cookies onto my order at the last second and guy was super annoyed at that. Also the cookies are like 3 for $12.00 so yah. Returned 30 min later to a cold soggy $23 lobster roll. I will not be returning. read more

Jon Matsubara strikes again. The innovator behind Stage, Azure, Japengu, 40 Carrots/Bloomies, various vegan and plate-lunch pop-ups in the Moiliili/Waialae area, and now, at last, his own biz, advances the plate lunch. I had the butter poached crab salad--quietly flavorful group of sides plus what felt like medium-grade canned (?) seafood with a slightly savory taste so that the butter did not overwhelm. It was warm but the texture was still good, flaky and a bit stringy, but not rubbery. The sides were a not-too-sweet Viet/Thai style papaya salad, a very fresh (locally sourced? no wilty leaves here...) salad of mixed greens and cucumbers/haricort vert/dark red tomatoes (Roma? or something smaller) with a wafu-style lightly vinegary dressing that had mint plus a little bit of a Korean peppery kick to it. Subtle and tasty. Hubs had the Feast Deluxe of the hamburger steak (the most juicy, luscious version of it, albeit more hamburger than h.s. shaped--roundish), a keto (aka cauliflower or lo-/no-carb) "mac" salad, and slices of moist and plump fried chicken with a side (mild) hot sauce which tasted like hummus mixed with kochujang and perhaps a bit of the chicken-y oil (thus making the "K" part of Korean Fried Chix optional...you can pour their "firebird" sauce over the meat, dip it, or disregard). Rice looked good, not overcooked or mushy, and mushroom gravy was savory and umami-ish without being oily or salty. These were both around $15-16 each, and just right--neither too heavy in volume nor chintzy. Not cheap, but you are paying for a delicate touch, attention to texture and freshness, and sophisticated palate. We continue to be fans of this dude and feel elated that he finally has his own restaurant! Hope that this place proves better luck for him than the previous efforts in this little corner of Mānoa, or at least that it can launch his new rep as an impressive plate lunch-bistro restauranteur, allowing him to go somewhere with better traffic and a more loyal, sustaining, and voluminous customer base. read more

We've seen a couple different businesses in this location, but I really hope this one stays! The food was bomb. Great little family owned restaurant. The menu is simple, but everything was phenomenal. We tried the fried chicken, which had crispy skin without being overpowering, and the sauce has enough kick to leave your lips tingling. Also had the hamburger steak - straight up local kine with lots of meat and plenty of flavor. Lastly, we had the opakapaka, and got a huge piece of fish that was cooked to perfection. From the cosy atmosphere to the excellent service (you order at the counter, but the staff is so friendly and helpful) to the delicious food, you need to try this place! My sister and I shared the butter poached crab & bacon sandwich, French fries, chicharrones and agedashi soft shell crab and we loved it all! I kept reading about this shop. It's barely even open. You walk up, place your Order and eat take out style. Limited drinks but they charge you for a cup for water. This I found very tacky as even Mcd will give you a cup for water. The chicken was bland. I was looking for a savory fried taste but i was met with a bland taste that required the fire sauce which I didn't quite enjoy. Sides were a scoop of rice and a tiny salad. Price was $14.99 but i will hit up some of my friend's choices before trusting an article again. read more
