Et Al has quietly become one of those places I know I can always count on. My best friend and I came here for one of our lil dinner date --a tradition we try to keep every so often. We've both been here plenty of times with our families over the years, and we'll come for both brunch and dinner depending on the occasion, but this visit was for dinner. Their menu was recently refreshed, so while a few favorites remain, there are quite a few new dishes to explore. I ordered the Watercress/Kale Salad with Grilled Chicken, while my friend went with the Mushroom Risotto topped with Shrimp. Both dishes were fresh, vibrant, and beautifully plated. Nothing overly complicated--just well-executed food that's consistently reliable. Of course, cocktails were a must. My friend paired her meal with the Lychee Hibiscus Martini, while I started with an Espresso Martini. I'm always on the hunt for a standout espresso martini, and this one definitely delivered--smooth, balanced, and one I'd happily order again. The biggest surprise of the night, though, was the Matcha Whey cocktail. After visiting countless cocktail lounges, I wasn't expecting this drink to stand out as much as it did--but it absolutely did. It looks light and almost transparent, so I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting, but instead it had this incredibly smooth, creamsicle-like finish that was completely unexpected. Easily one of my favorite cocktails I've had in a long time. My only disappointment is that the bone marrow is no longer a item on the menu. It was one of my favorites, and I hope it makes a return someday. Et Al continues to be one of my favorite dependable spots on the island. It's the kind of place my family gives gift cards to for birthdays and special occasions--not just to me, but to other family members and loved ones as well--because it's somewhere we know we'll genuinely enjoy. Whether it's brunch, a casual girls' night, or a special occasion, it never disappoints. Looking forward to seeing what else comes with the new menu, but one thing's for sure--I'll definitely be back. One thing to note is the parking. There's a shared lot for the businesses in the shopping center, and I've never had much trouble finding a spot. That said, the layout can be a little awkward with its narrow lanes in the entrance and tight turns, so navigating through the lot can be more of a headache than actually parking. Fortunately, once you make it through, the convenience of having dedicated parking makes the visit pretty hassle-free. read more

This is one of the things I love about Hawaii...an upscale restaurant run by a grocery store chain featuring excellent locally sourced food. I feel like you don't find this anywhere else in the country. Et al. exceeds in service standards, which is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is modern and fresh. Very comfortable! We started with the Sumida Watercress Salad with Green Goddess Dressing. Yum! I had the pan-seared kanpachi over choy sum in a spicy chili water broth! Absolutely delicious. The bar chairs have gorgeous fabric backing with flower leis. Very welcoming to those who enter the establishment. The tables are standard, as well as the chairs. Spacious area with a variety of table sizes. Service is generally attentive and friendly. We were not rushed out and we were able to eat and talk at ease. Food is average. The Haupia (coconut) French toast was unremarkable. The Haupia flavor was missing and the bottom pieces of toast were on the mushy side. I was not a fan of this dish. Gail's breakfast included a side of 'ulu (breadfruit) tots. This was unique and tasty. Thank you for letting me try it. Donna's mochi waffle was crispy and slightly chewy. 6-3-2026 We arrived a few minutes before our 9 a.m. table reservations . We could select any table so I asked for the one in the corner: more room, less tables nearby. Our server was very patient as we decided on what to eat and drink. Very knowledgeable of the menu choices- what was popular and what ingredients were used. We each chose something different. Donna had the chicken and waffles plus iced coffee, Jackie tried their French toast and added cream to her iced coffee. I had 2 poached eggs, strips of extra crispy bacon and good tasting ulu tots( breadfruit tots) plus an Olena refresher. On the Open Table on line reservations you can notify them if someone is celebrating a birthday. They brought a nice big scoop of the BEST mango sorbet to Donna with 3 spoons for all of us to try- it was really good. We enjoy coming here for the lobster roll but recently the price has gone up. The market price in March was $45 which makes it quite an expensive lunch. You do get decent chunks of lobster though. The seasoning seems to have changed a bit. Seems to have more seasoning than prior times. It is also on their dinner menu but being a sandwich makes it seem more fitting for lunch. It is not on their Pau Hana menu, so if you're there between 3-5 pm the lobster roll is not available and there are only four small bites to choose from. read more

Came here on a Sunday for brunch and it was fairly busy. It can get loud especially with larger parties. The waitress was very attentive and our food came out quick. I got the honey walnut chicken and mochi waffles, which was delicious. My friend got the pan fried chicken thigh, which she said she enjoyed. It was a coconut chicken over a salad and a side of rice. This is now my favorite meal at this restaurant. I am a pescatarian, so I get this at least twice a week. It's so good. I highly recommend it if you like fish. The service is always great. Never really busy when I go in, typically go in around 830-900 on the weekends without a reservation. My boyfriend gets the Loco Moco (he thinks it's one of the best on the island). The restaurant is located inside Foodland, but it's a really nice, clean, aesthetically pleasing place inside My only issue is that I try to call and order ahead for a to-go order, but I can rarely get through. read more

We chose this location due to a friend's recommendation. We reviewed the menu online before arriving, so we knew what we wanted to order. When we got there, they gave us a lunch menu and told us they changed the menu that day. It was their first day with a new menu and hadn't updated their website yet. My heart was set on the garlic chicken and mochi waffles so I was upset cause the lunch menu wasn't my jam. However, the server informed the manager, and he was able to accommodate my request for the chicken and waffles. I was really appreciative that they were able to do that! I do like the vibe at et al. It's not very noisy and quite cozy. The chairs are comfy and the tables are well spaced apart. Service is usually hit or miss but when it's not too busy they are on top of things. They recently changed their menu and I must say that I'm not a fan of the new menu. I loved the soft shell crab Benedict or the power bowl with pork belly which are now off the menu. Rather than the ulu rosti they serve chunks of ulu which I didn't especially care for. Today I had the ahi tarte Benedict. The flavor of the ahi patties were good but I felt that everything was overdone. I must say that the only thing that was good on the plate was the English muffin under the Benedict...which I think is kind of sad. The eggs were poached overdone that the middle was not runny like how poached eggs should be. It did come with salad but instead I wanted to try the ulu, big mistake. I didn't like the flavor of them and it was a little hard and dry. The ahi patties were also dry. I asked for the brown butter hollandsise on the side which had a nice flavor but was super thick it was like putting paste on the Benedict. I've always wanted to try this place out and I was glad I did. We ordered the Maui Beets, Tagliatelle, and et al. Burger. The beets were just so yummy. They had a tangy sauce that was bright and lively and paired well with the earthy beets. The tagilatelle was also good, but quite small for the price. Finally, the burger was good, kind of your average burger but the fires where AMAZING, super crispy. I think this place is good but its pretty expensive for the amount of food you get. read more

The food took about 25 minutes to come out after ordering and we got the fresh catch, clam chowder, and lobster roll. The lobster roll...while it had a generous portion of lobster meat, some pieces tasted a bit..off. Like slightly stinky after taste. And too much mayo/sauce on the bottom made it feel like a soggy $45 mayonnaise sandwich. The fries and clam chowder were really good though. I've always heard good things about the breakfast brunch here so we went here on Valentine's Day on a weekend I believe in the morning and it was pretty busy. The restaurant itself is very lovely inside and the ambience is very calming but modern and chic at the same time. The bar is beautiful with a mirrored back and the bottles everywhere that create a classy sense of the bar. The brunch was impressive and I asked myself why I haven't come here earlier! The Hawaiian Clam Chowder was a decent sized portion and not to clam like tasting. I wished there were more actual clams in the soup, but I was glad it did come with some bread. The oysters were a good size. I can't remember exactly the type of oysters, but the sauce it came with was delicious. The espresso martinis were pretty good. Although I wish that they used freshly brewed espresso from what I believe they didn't. But the breakfast bowl was the highlight of the meal for me. It's a great balance of meat and vegetables and salty and crunchy and soft textures. It really is a breakfast bowl that I would eat every day. The braised beef loco moco was also pretty good. Although the gravy could've been a little tastier, but was still delicious. I went here for my birthday dinner because I've heard great things about et al. They did not disappoint !! This mushroom risotto was so good I couldn't stop eating it. It has a very strong and nice flavor, adding chicken on top helped balance out the flavors nicely as well. The staff was very attentive and gave us great recommendations from the menu. However, I would say if you wanted "good" seating, I would recommend reserving a spot as we had to settle for the large shared table in the middle of the establishment, sitting between two different parties. The service was okay, nothing exceptional. We ordered: * Et Al Burger: 10/10, my friend ordered this and he said it was very good. The meat was done perfectly (medium rare) and the fries were a good pairing. * Chicken & Waffles: 10/10, my other friend ordered this and we all got to try a bite. The black sesame butter was perfection and amazing addition to the waffles and syrup. The chicken also came with like a Korean fried chicken syrup (kind of reminds me of zippys iykyk). * Short Rib Loco Moco: 8/10. I got this, it was okay, it was flavorful but the short rib / gravy flavor wasn't really appealing to me in that moment. I liked the fried onions which helped to break up the textures. * Soft-Shell Crab Benedict: 9/10. Another of my friends got this and I got to have a bite. I think this was pretty good and I liked all aspects of it (especially the side of hashbrowns hah). The restaurant is located inside the Kahala Foodland Market with lots of parking, which is a big plus. It's a small, cute spot with great colors and thoughtful seating arrangements. My friend and I came for pau hana during happy hour, which runs daily from 2:30 to 5 p.m. We ended up ordering almost everything on the happy hour menu, as we usually do. The fries were honestly the only standout for us. You really can't go wrong with fries, and these were solid--crispy, well-seasoned, and satisfying. The arancini didn't quite hit for me. They were a bit soggy and lacked flavor, with a slight bitter aftertaste that threw things off. The chicken was also somewhat soggy. We were expecting something closer to crispy, crunchy Korean fried chicken, so this may have just been a misunderstanding on our part, but it wasn't what we were hoping for. The sliders were decent. Simple and straightforward--nothing bad, nothing amazing. They definitely could've used some ketchup or an extra sauce for more flavor. The bone marrow was very oily, which is expected, but the texture was a little off. It felt rubbery and was harder to eat than usual. I've had marrow many times and usually love it, so this one was a bit disappointing. The grilled sourdough that came with it, though, was good. My friend ordered a cocktail (I can't remember the name), but she really enjoyed it--and it was super cute, pink, and pretty. Overall, the space is lovely and the service was attentive and kind. Went for lunch and the food was great! This was my second time here. Last time I ordered the risotto and it was so delicious but I wanted to try something else this time. I ordered the soft shell crab egg Benedict and it was so yummy. All the flavors really went well together. It also game with an ulu and potato rostini (similar to hash browns.) While the flavors were good, it was very hard and difficult to eat. It's a pretty small restaurant, but very nice ambiance and the tables are spread out enough to where you don't feel too crowded. Maui beets were a tasty starter. The beets were crunchy and fresh and we added on arugula to complete the salad. It comes with oranges and a tangy lemon pesto dressing. Also has pistachios for texture and chèvre for a creamy funk. The braised short rib loco moco was one of the best loco interpretations I've tasted. The gravy was thick and umami and complemented the garlic rice. Also had a large piece of succulent short rib. The citrus brined pork chop was generous portioned but slightly dry. It is prepared medium well but I have trichinosis paranoia so was ok with the temperature. The apricot glaze and pomegranate reduction was flavorful. One of the best meals I have ever had in Hawaii. The flavors and thoughtfulness reminded me of some of the best farm-to-table SoCal restaurants. I went for Valentine's Day and it was a wonderful meal! We ordered the salad, a soup, the burger, a pasta and drinks. Highly recommend for special occasions or just to treat yourself! Parking is right outside. Easy! Located inside of foodland. Might be a little confusing, but you'll find it! The staff here are nice and accommodating. Food is Ono. Et Al had all the makings of a great night out--reservations were a breeze through OpenTable, we were seated immediately, and parking was conveniently easy--but the rest of the evening felt like a comedy of errors with a 2-star punchline. The only true winner was the $14 Maui Beets starter: fresh red and yellow beets and radish paired with sweet Land Farm chevre, orange segments, pistachios, and lemon basil pesto in a perfect symphony of salt, acid, and crunch that felt like a match made in heaven. Everything else? Downhill fast. My $37 Grilled Kona Kanpachi arrived with the skin still on (not my thing at all), swimming in a sizzling chili soy broth with pak choy, cilantro, and garlic rice that sounded way more exciting on the menu than it tasted in reality--just underwhelming and hard to enjoy. My friend's $35 Citrus Brined Pork Chop with Brussels sprouts, pearl onions, sumac, curried apricot glaze, and pomegranate reduction was dry and tough (I tried a bite and fully agreed), and to top it off, they completely forgot her side of fingerling potatoes; by the time they finally arrived, the meal was nearly over and they felt almost pointless. All the while, the deafening noise level--laughter and conversations ricocheting off every wall--forced us to literally shout across the table just to hear each other. Service was painfully slow, adding insult to injury in the chaotic din. The lone redemption for my friend came at dessert with the chocolate macadamia nut tart drizzled in lilikoi sauce (we got it à la mode), which she adored even if it was tooth-achingly sweet for me. Et Al has flashes of brilliance, but between the noise, sluggish pacing, and mostly disappointing plates, it felt more like an endurance test than a relaxing dinner. Great neighborhood joint inside of Foodland Kahala MKT across from Zippys. Plenty of free parking in the lot. They have a lot of menus - brunch/lunch, dinner, happy hour, bar, dessert. Drinks are good, actually pretty strong. Arancini is bomb but pricey, even on happy hour as there's just 3 I believe. The burger is good, salad is solid, fries are crispy/tasty, the risotto is magic - definitely get that. Oh and get the lilikoi macadamia tart thing. Lilikoi caramel! Who knew? So 'ono! Came here for lunch, but after reading the reviews and seeing how busy it gets during lunch when I would pass by, I definitely have to swing by and try brunch too. I was pregnant at the time so anything undercooked, I had to stay away from. With an already limited menu, I decided to get the chicken and waffles because (1) it's mochi waffles and (2) garlic chicken, but (3) black sesame butter?? Whaaaat? Long story short, what a knockout combo! I need a whole carton of that black sesame butter; everything paired so well together! The chicken was made to perfection and the garlic flavor was present, but complimented the taste of the sesame butter. The mochi waffles were also very neutral flavor which is great to allow the other layers to rise to the top and shine through. I really, really, really, have to get it again. And I don't know if it's because I PP now, but I would buy it again in a heartbeat even though I don't have to worry about what I eat anymore. As far as the ambiance, it's a small and intimate restaurant tucked away on the side of a small grocery store. At night, the tables a lightly lit with small candles. Not the best place to accommodate large groups, there was about 12 of us, so we were squished but they still accommodated, but we definitely hit the threshold of what was possible. 3rd time here for lunch. Solid burger and risotto! The cheeseburger & fries are truly delicious. The quality of the patty, the toppings are all working together and the housemade bun stood up. The fries are crispy and well seasoned. The mushroom risotto is usually terrific (today it was a touch gummy and over seasoned). The mushroom flavor is soooooo good! Had the short rib loco moco. It was pretty tasty. The menu said garlic rice but I couldn't taste any garlic flavor. We tried the bulgogi pizza and WoW it was yummy! The kim chi and sauce and cheese were such a good flavor combination. Usually the service is very attentive. Today was crazy busy with large parties. The big, bright dining area is very pleasant. We joined the waiting list and were 45 minutes to an quoted an hour & 1/2. Though I never got a text, we returned at the hour & 1/2 mark and there were lots of tables available. After such a massive lunch rush, I think the staff had a lot of catching up to do. After being sat, we waited a while for a server to take our order. We made a reservation online for 5 people at 7 PM on a Thursday. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, but that gave us time to browse around the store (it's located inside the Kahala Market). There is a parking lot outside. We ordered a variety of dishes to share family-style, and everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor: Big Island Bone Marrow - Rich, savory, and full of umami. It comes with 3 pieces of bread but we recommend asking for enough slices for everyone in your party so they can enjoy a taste. If you haven't had bone marrow before, you'd treat like butter and spread it on the toast. Short Rib Arancini - Our favorite dish of the night! Crispy outside, tender risotto inside. Comes with 3 pieces, but we recommend asking for more to match your group size. Hamakua Mushroom Risotto - Deep, savory flavor that tasted like it was made with beef stock. It paired perfectly with our steak. The mushrooms added some earthiness. 12 oz USDA Choice NY Striploin - Cooked medium rare, super tender, and juicy. The broccolini and potatoes it came with soaked up the sauce wonderfully. Et Al. Chopped Salad - A refreshing and bright contrast to the richness of our other dishes. You can add protein but we kept ours plain. Ube Pave - it's like cake-pie hybrid. We loved the texture and the freeze-dried marshmallows. Haupia Gelato - Paired with the ube pave as suggested by our waitress and it was a great combo! Summer Berry Mascarpone Bar - Like a lighter take on cheesecake. Not too dense, with a nice pop of brightness from the berries. Portions are good for one person or easy to share between two, making it perfect for a date night. If you're bringing a group and trying to family-style, definitely ordering additional pieces or more dishes is recommended. this tagliatelle pasta was some of the best I've ever had. Truly didn't want it to be over! Every bite was perfection. I love the staff, service, cleanliness at et al. It is such a bright and classy yet unassuming spot to have a pau hana, lunch, breakfast or dinner in Honolulu. I ordered the catch of the day. The waiter told me that there were two options, kampachi and swordfish. I told him I was good with either. He decided on the kampachi which was fine, but then I got the bill and there was an $11 surcharge for it. I felt misled. The waiter should have done two things. First is to mention that one is a surcharge. Second, when I said I was good with either; he should not have defaulted to the substitution to the more expensive option. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night to stamp our dinning passport and service and food was great! Both my boyfriend and I have been here before and it's always been enjoyable. Small restaurant located inside of foodland farms in kahala. Since it was a weeknight we didn't need reservations but reservations can be made on open table. Parking lot is shared with a bunch of other businesses, when we went had plenty parking but during weekends/busy times the lot might be full. Cocktails- Melon Fresca and espresso martini Both tasted great! I felt like the melon Fresca had more of a cantaloupe taste than honeydew though Food- Hawaiian clam chowder, crispy skin king salmon, hamakua mushroom risotto, and braised short rib loco moco. It's a solid casual brunch/lunch spot but not my first choice. But in this area, it's a good option otherwise it's Chilis, CPK, etc. Service is friendly I like the loco moco a lot. I would order this every time. The avocado toast is good but when I had it before they used to put BABY CORN on it, like the kind from a can that you usually only got on chop suey stuff. Does not work for me. But I have seen that some now come with what looks like fresh corn (not baby corn) sprinkled on top instead. I like the arancino appetizers a lot. The rigatoni is ok and not something I think I want to order again. I keep hoping it will be better The breakfast bowl is good and sounds like a health food bowl but it's tasty. Parking at this place has been getting increasingly terrible at crowded times, so plan ahead that parking may be a challenge.
