Staff were super friendly and didn't have to wait long for a table, likely bc there was a storm. Pretty pricey place but decent for happy hour and special occasions. I like the location of this Merriman's because of the nice outdoor patio ambiance. We went for Happy Hour and had a really friendly server and delicious food! I especially enjoyed the yummy Mai tai with Lilikoi foam. In fact I had two! The happy hour special is $11 each. :) The slam burger was especially enjoyable as well. The bun was unique... soft on the inside with a slight chew on the crust. Also, it didn't come with fries, so we got an order to share for the table. Went to Merriman's to celebrate mom's birthday. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Service is attentive and friendly. And they have live music. Happy hour from 3-5:30pm which we made it to just in time. I've been looking for a new fish n chips spot since Likos closed, and I have to say this one was really good! Very crispy and flaky fish with good flavor. Will definitely get again. The green beans have a nice crunch and flavor. I like the macadamia nuts on top for extra crunch as well. I tried the beef bourguignon for the first time. The meat was very tender and flavorful. Kind of reminded me of a fancy beef stew (in a good way). My mom got the cast iron chicken. Portion was very big, those chickens were fed well. Delicious taste and cooked to perfection! For mom's birthday, they gave us complimentary champagne glasses. If you can I recommend sitting outside simply to enjoy the gorgeous weather and outdoor atmosphere but inside is decorated in a trendy, upscale vibe. Plenty of seating. We didn't have a reservation and didn't have to wait. We decided to split some small plates. The fish tacos were good but would not recommend if you're pretty hungry because you only get 2 and the fish piece is quite small; very flavorful though! We also got the hummus with the sweet potato chips which was delicious! They do offer more chips for the dip we had left but we were full by then. Also recommend the current chef's cocktail. It's a twist in a classic marg and comes with tajin on the rim (IYKYK). The service was impeccable. Every time I've walked by this place it always seemed too intimidating to check out simply because it's part of one of the first luxury condos built in Kaka'ako. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices were pretty much at par with other nice eateries. Dylan was our server and he was accommodating and helpful when we asked for a desert recommendation (bread pudding was ono and not too sweet). We both had yummy the Roasted Beet & Hirabara Farms Fennel Salad, which didn't go over well with my niece who cannot eat cilantro (it was in the dressing, which she had on the side so was provided another dressing). As it turned out there was cilantro & mint in the salad so she had to pick out the cilantro. Thankfully, I love cilantro so I gobbled all of it up. The goat cheese made the salad even more substantial. On the side we ordered the "Bag 'o Biscuits" with a rather runny, but tasty, jam. Runny or not the two were a delightful combination. Food was rather rubbish. The fish tasted like some sketchy chicken from a school cafeteria. The waitress had gotten my order wrong. I had asked to have my green beans swapped for fries instead. After receiving my order I had received no fries and I instead received the green beans I explicitly asked not to receive. After informing the waitress of the mistake instead of taking accountability she did the unthinkable and blamed I for the mistake. She tried to gaslight as if I was an idiot. When I had finally received my fries we had been charged for it. During our meal she never came back to refill our drinks. She then proceeded to have the audacity to tip herself 20%. The lack of good service and food completely ruined the great ambiance. My friends and I came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. It was a little busy, so we had to wait for a table to become available. We had a stroller with us, and they were able to accommodate the stroller. Food: We started with the bag of biscuits and fries to share. The biscuits were pretty good. Enough to share between 3 adults. The fries were standard and delicious. For my entree, I ordered the mushroom ravioli. While the dish does not come with a lot of ravioli, it is a good sized portion and very good. Service: Since it was busy, service was a little slow. However, everyone at the restaurant was very nice and accommodating since we had a baby with us. Our server was nice and checked up on us regularly. I've gone to Merriman's Honolulu on three separate occasions: to celebrate my birthday, to celebrate a job promotion and on a date. I LOVE it here. Their SZECHUAN STIR-FRY GREEN BEANS WITH MAC NUTS is delicious. It's got a nice crunch and a little kick to it. They used to have clams as an appetizer and it was so good especially with the bread! I ALWAYS order their steak Frites because how can you go wrong with some prime sirloin cooked to perfection and rosemary sea salt fries? I did try their CAST IRON ORGANIC CHICKEN a main dish they're known for and it was juicy, flavorful, and big enough to share with another person. I've yet to try their WAIALUA CHOCOLATE PURSE each of the times I went they ran out of it and I was heartbroken. Maybe on the next visit my luck will change. Be sure to check out their menu for specials and I recommend making reservations. If you can, it doesn't hurt to visit during happy hour so you can try more dishes. read more

I would say each time I visit, the experience has been between four and five stars. I do like the dinner menu more than the lunch/happy hour options. Last visit, we went for lunch, and I ordered their burger because I remembered loving their dinner burger (Umami burger - five stars!). Their lunch burger was still good, but it doesn't compare to the Umami burger. My husband thought the fish and chips were good but average. The desserts were great! My friend got the chocolate purse which was unique - she enjoyed it, but it was a one and done. The bread pudding was amazing! Highly recommend it if you like bread pudding. Service was good! Happy hour is still a delicious deal! And the dining room is such a beautiful, airy space. $12 for the smash cheeseburger on a homemade bun. So yummy! $7 for the tasty truffle parmesan fries $12 for the fish & chips that was ahi on this day. Perfectly cooked. $10 for the schezwan green beans. Pretty tasty, just eat them while they're hot. $45 for the steak fries off the regular menu. Good sized sirloin, cooked perfectly (except the extra charred edge) and very delicious. There was an herbed butter pat on top that didn't melt. $9 for the "just lettuce" salad. Beautiful butter leaf in a refreshing lemon dressing. So simple, so good! $14 for easily one of the best bread pudding on Oahu. It's right up there with Orchids at the Halekulani. Service is always on point. From the host stand to the food runners, everyone is pleasant and gracious. Our server, Merwan, was attentive, friendly and so handsome ;-) Here's where I think they fell short on service. When we put our credit card in the check presenter for payment, a man who never interacted with us took it. I watched as he went to process the card at the host stand. He wasn't wearing a uniform. He never introduced himself. If he is part of management, he should have done a table touch. It feels very off-putting to me when a complete stranger takes the money/credit card. We sat indoors, but they have plenty of outdoor seating on their lanai as well. This is a higher end restaurant located near the Ward Village shopping mall. Lovely restaurant with super nice staff and nearby parking lot makes this an easy to get to destination. We ordered the beet salad to start and then the chicken pot pie and Merriman's Saimin. The beet salad was refreshing and light. I loved the Saimin dish! The slow roasted pork was super tender and well seasoned. The crunch from the bean spouts was a nice complement to the sautéed mushrooms and bok choy. The broth was a tad bit on the salty side and it typically comes with chili oil but I was able to order it without. The noodles were cooked just right as well. We came here to celebrate a birthday and it was a good choice! The restaurant was packed and the floor-to-ceiling glass wall with modern Hawaiian decor made the atmosphere bright and cheery. Luckily, we were able to make reservations during happy hour, so we tried items from that menu. The happy hour menu had a good mix of options, so we ordered mostly from it. The farm-to-table cocktail was really delicious and strong though I don't remember what was in it. We also ordered the crispy pork shank off the regular menu and enjoyed it as it was something different that we typically don't see on menus. Merriman's was a lovely way to end my time in Hawaii on a high note! A bit of a splurge, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of an elevated dining experience. I started with the oysters, and these set the tone right away; easily the best oysters I've ever had, and I say this despite my Long Island pride. They were so fresh and perfectly balanced, with only simple garnishes (lemon, black pepper champagne vinaigrette) to let the oysters do most of the talking. My main was one of the catches of the day. The fish itself was prepared perfectly; the sauce it came in was a bit heavy/oily but still added nice flavor with a little bit of zest. And the veggies that came with the dish were fine. All in all, a great meal, but I was expecting a bit more in terms of presentation and sauce for my entree. I got an old fashioned as well, props for a solid cocktail! And service was phenomenal, Tim was on top of his game the entire evening. Worth the splurge for sure, I'd go back to try other dishes! read more

This is my second visit to Merriman's Honolulu and the waitstaff that served us made me feel twice as special this time :) We were first greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco as a birthday treat (not sure if it was comp'd by waiter- if so, thank you so much Francis and Malia!). Then, we enjoyed quite frankly, the most delicious appetizer I have had in a while. It was salmon dressed over a dollop of yogurt that was served on a really yummy fish cake. I loved it ! We also enjoyed their Tako "a la escargot" and Country bread that was perfect with our glasses of prosecco. My entree was the Organic Macadamia Nut Fresh Catch which was served with the Local Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce, Pukalani green beans and garlic rice. There were 3 large raviolis which if I didn't have a bunch of appetizers before, probably wouldn't have been enough. Lastly, I shared the chocolate purse. We decided to make reservations for Restaurant Week, and so glad we did because the food and service were fantastic from start to finish. Booking through OpenTable was super easy, and even though we arrived a little early, the place was already buzzing--packed tables, steady foot traffic, and that lively Restaurant Week energy. Despite the crowd, they seated us right on time. The host was warm and welcoming, and our server, Killian, greeted us the moment we sat down. We told him we were interested in the Restaurant Week prix fixe menu, and he walked us through each dish with great detail--super helpful and made everything sound delicious. We started with drinks: the A Honu World cocktail, which was sweet but not overly sweet with a really nice coconut flavor, and my boyfriend ordered the Obsidian Cabernet, his all-time favorite red wine. First course: the ʻulu corn chowder--creamy, savory, and full of flavor. Second course: we couldn't decide between the jerk chicken sandwich or the miso salmon, so we ordered both and split them. The jerk chicken sandwich had just the right amount of spice, super moist chicken, and came with perfectly cooked fries. The miso salmon was delicious and paired so well with the hand-cut chow fun noodles--such a great combination. Final course: the lilikoi posset, lightly sweet with a bright tang, the perfect finish to a great prix fixe meal. Three members of our primary solutions vendor came to town for their annual visit, and we ended up at Merriman's to wrap up the day. I told them to park at Whole Foods as I like the parking lot there, especially on the 4th and 5th floors. I ordered a Monkey 47 gin & tonic. We ordered two plates of Organic Taro Hummus, Garlic Roasted Wild Shrimp, and Roasted Beet & Hirabara Farms Fennel as our appetizers. The hit was the shrimp dish ... The sauce was outstanding. The hummus was a stand-in for Szechuan Stir-Fry Green Beans with Mac Nuts as the latter was out. Entrees included the Crispy Pork Shank, Lobster "Pot Pie", and the Organic Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Catch, which was Opah (Moonfish). The best dish was the crispy pork shank. It was served with a pineapple salsa and Poblano Mashed Potato. The Opah was a hit; it was cooked perfectly. I was somewhat disappointed with my lobster pot pie. The puff pastry was soggy, and I didn't care for the pieces of potato ... I wanted more lobster. Several ordered the Lilikoi Posset, which looked like a soft crème brulée. Two ordered the Waialua Chocolate Purse, a visual and taste treat. One ordered bread pudding and gave a rave review. I satisfied myself with a French Press containing Merriman's Blend, a mix of Big Island and Guatemalan coffee. It was nice, but not outstanding. Merriman's Honolulu now serves brunch on both Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (it used to be Sundays only), and it's officially one of my new go-to spots in Ward Village. Love the beautiful comfortable interior, but they also have outdoor seating as well. We started with the Organic Taro Hummus -- creamy, earthy, and served with fresh Pukalani cucumber, radish, Ho Farms cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and Moloka'i sweet-potato chips. The Tako & Country Bread came next -- octopus cooked "à la escargot" style in a rich cognac-parsley-garlic-butter sauce. Unreal flavor combo. For mains, we ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, with salmon cured and smoked in-house, topped with perfectly poached eggs, avocado, crispy potatoes, and a silky béarnaise. Then came the Wagyu Loco Moco -- tender wagyu patty over Koshihikari rice, drenched in Waimānalo mushroom gravy and topped with eggs. Comfort food elevated to fine-dining level. They've also got plenty of other brunch hits like French Toast, Waiahole Taro & Kalua Pork Hash, a Mimosa Flight, and warm Biscuits with Jam -- all served with Merriman's signature local-ingredient touch.
