The manager told me that if I was ever in the area that I could park there and run my errands. Great perk, right? Not so much when you get back to your car and they called and had it towed. $135 to get it back. The tow company confirmed that it was indeed an employee of Extra Space Storage who called and had the car towed. Thanks! There are a lot of other storage options in the area. This place is a circus. I waited in a dirty, empty reception area for 20 minutes before "Store Manager" Selam Giday walked through the front door carrying a plate of take out food, wearing yoga pants, no uniform or name tag, and angrily began to 'assist' me from behind the desk. Perhaps I interrupted her break? She seemed really irritated by the one question I asked in response to her asking me if I had any questions, rolling her eyes and mumbling under her breath openly throughout our entire interaction. In the middle of the process of me renting a storage space, she literally ran out of the store to yell at someone that she thought was about to park nearby. I thought about ducking out right then but honestly I was afraid she'd chase me down yelling too. Predictably, when the charges hit my card 2 days later it was a different price than I was quoted by Selam. I returned to the store with my contract and the paperwork printed and signed in that very location showing the discrepancy, only to be told by a large bearded kid behind the desk that he "was only a part-time employee" and that he "couldn't help me." The customer service is amazing, however it, unfortunately, is outweighed by the aging facility. There are 2 elevators with very tricky security codes. We purchased a temperature controlled unit of the top floor and there was a water leak into the unit which ruined a carpet and some other items. It can get quite busy with people vying for the elevators and loading dock area. So, overall- I would advise another facility. read more

It's a trap. I moved in two years ago into a medium sized unit for a reasonable price. The facility is clean and well manage but... in the course of my tenure the unit's price has doubled in a couple of steps. I called to see where it was going and what the price change policy was and was told it raises to "market rate" whenever it is "needed". They would not tell me when or if it would be raised again. Someone new is offered a much lower rate with no mention that the rate would change/increase and certainly not like it does. Paying for a longer period for a fixed rate is not available. They know what a pain it is to move all your stuff and assume rightly that they can get away with this system. It's really a scam. read more

I've never rented a storage unit before, and Selam walked me through every single step of the process right when I arrived. When I was conflicted between renting a 5 by 5 vs a 5 by 10, Selam was so patient, kind, thoughtful and asked me about all the specifics of my storage needs. She treated me with so much care and didn't rush me at all as I considered both units, even when I went back and forth over the two options. Extra Space Storage is located very conviently in Clarendon. Not only is there an area for parking (you don't have to pay for), but they also provide a large area for loading and unloading with flatbed carts. I used this facility short term, between my move. The store manager, Monique, is very friendly, professional, and communicative. As long as you explain your requirements for space, contract term, and needs; she is very clear on the policies, unit contract requirements and how they can accomodate. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to go the extra mile with customer service. After reading all the reviews, I did disregard another persons recent post from the end of 2017. I completely disagree with their opinion on the customer service. I never had an issue with someone being available. I came in at all hours during the time they were open. If you feel that they are unavailable when you need them, she was very responsive to phone calls and emails. Monique was very clear on the storage hours and the retail store front hours. So, if you are looking for a facility with 24 hour access... This is not your place. I would definitely rent storage space here again! read more

Storage companies are in general slimy businesses. They prey on human weaknesses. I've dealt with others, and this is the best I've dealt with. Recently I switched from a 5x10 unit to a 5x5 unit. Not only was I prorated the difference between the rents, but the attendant went out of her way to locate a free unit that was near our old one, so moving the stuff wouldn't take too long. There are still plenty of things I can complain about, and hence should probably just give it 3 stars... but I have just had too many bad experiences with other places to not want to reward them for being better. If I could give zero stars I would, simply for the horrible customer service. I hate a horrible experience. They essentially lied to me. I was told that I would be notified via e-mail when I would have to pay payment was due, but was only notified by phone after my payment was due, and was told that I would have to pay a late fee. I asked about this initially when I rented the storage unit about paying my bill and was specifically told that I would receive an e-mail notification. However, it turns out that they were phasing out the e-mails at that point. Archaic? Additionally, when I asked about how they intended to notify customers when their payment was due (you can't expect me to remember how much I need to pay on a monthly basis--and the first month has all those extraneous expenses...) they said they were making phone calls. Conveniently only after the late fee is added on I see. Ok, so perhaps they have just decided to abandon notifying customers at all. In that case, that's just horrible customer service... read more

The people are friendly. When I opened my rental, I was walked through the process and documentation in a manner that was respectful, explanatory, but not patronizing. Access to the facility is easy, and on-site the staff gladly answer questions at any time. I have automatic credit card pay and never have a problem with payment. The facility is clean from storefront to storage room hallway. My climate-controlled unit is consistently cool and dry. The only reason I give 4 stars rather than 5 is that the price seems high to me, even for the location. Update: I am pulling this down to 3 stars because they would not allow me to return merchandise without a receipt, even though their records showed I made the purchase. Also, the manager is often more interested in playing games on facebook than interacting with customers. read more

I have used this facility twice in the past two years and I can honestly say that the customer service I received was unparalleled. I was running late from loading up my room and was not going to make it to the facility before it closed. I called the store and Monique was so unbelievable helpful and accommodating. My complaint with this company is about to go into arbitration through the Better Business Bureau in Salt Lake City, Utah, the headquarters of Extra Space. The facility is very clean, well lit, and climate controlled. Monique is always helpful and wearing a smile. They offer boxes, locks, and all the packing supplies that you will need. The rolling carts in the loading bay are large enough and sturdy enough to handle getting your things onto and off of the oversized elevators going to and from your unit. Overall... As a graduating university student in the middle of relocation within the DC area, I needed a convenient storage option for the summer. The rates here are definitely competitive with the surrounding area (especially if you take advantage of the cheaper web rates!) Filling in the lease was a very easy process, and the manager is willing to move to prorated rent during the last month, to be flexible with my currently undefined move-in date for a new apartment. There are plenty of dolleys available for moving, and there is a good amount of space in the loading dock area for multiple cars. The manager also went above and beyond for me - while trying to move some items in at 9:45pm (when the facility closes at 10), I wasn't able to take my last load of items upstairs until about 10:05 when the elevator code would no longer work, however, the manager allowed me to access the elevator to complete the drop-off, which was a big relief on my schedule. I definitely recommend this place for the good price, convenient location and great customer service! read more
