Whenever I have a larger return package to send somewhere, I'll often throw it into my car and incorporate a drop off here for whenever I'm in Old Town. There is almost always (metered) street parking available and I've typically had a quick and easy process once inside. Since I don't have a printer, I always send my shipping label to this store's email address once I arrive and assuming there are no lines I'm usually in and out in under 5 minutes. Service is pretty consistent as well - nothing over the top impressive, but professional and efficient. Overall, seems to be a solidly run UPS store location! read more

Beware of shipping anything expensive from here. I had a pricey ($120) Amazon gift return that I dropped off here over a month ago. Ended up coming back to talk to someone after 3 weeks and no updates in tracking. Was told that they do bulk Amazon returns and it will just take longer. 5 weeks later and nothing. Amazon customer service has been surprisingly nightmare-ish about getting this refunded. Not sure what happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of the staff stole the package as it had a nice big image of what was inside on the box. read more

TOTAL NIGHTMARE. I sent a thin hard envelope with keys that cannot be replicated using UPS expediated delivery delivered in their own packaging. The package never showed up. UPS Corporate told me to contact the store that sent it suggesting it was damaged. The store that sent it told me to contact UPS. It was a vicious cycle of a lack of accountability and a week and half later I have no keys, no answer, no results and hours of my time lost to the matrix of disfunction that started in this store, was redirected to this store and unresolved by this store. One of the best run UPS stores we have used. ALL of the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Saying hello may not be the first words , but when addressing your needs, they are fast, responsive, and creative. We have a another mailbox here and they immediately notify when packages arrive. The store accepts returns for Amazon and others without any questions or complaints. In fact, I returned an item with a shipping label not realizing it was USPS and the box was open. The person said, "no worries, I'll seal and ship for you. I just can't give you a receipt because its the USPS." The store is clean, organized, and well staffed. It is on a busy street and the people going in causes traffic issues, but the store gets people in and out. Oh, did I mention they always have candy in a bowl, sometimes it's even Lindt. No one bothered to tell us. ehhh... cashier who helped me was, rude... well not friendly or informative. The store wasn't very neat either. I understand it's a small spot, but I think it could be less packed. I had my own box and bubble rap and prepaid shipping label. I just needed tape and to drop it off. The cost for tape was $1.00 and that's not a roll of tape either. Just for them to tape it up. While $1.00 isn't a lot, I don't think there should have been a charge to tape the box. read more

Every staff person I have come in contact with has been helpful, knowledgeable and professional. The owner Dave is a professional who does his best to make the customer experience amazing. I use this store frequently and I am never disappointed. I don't think you can criticize a business for following the rules and our own lack of planning and preparation. Reading some of the other comments I am surprised that they are complaining when it's clear the problems lie elsewhere. Just being louder doesn't always mean you will get your way. Wow. I wish zero stars was an option. First, this store is NOT a UPS store. Sure, the sign says it is but they cannot help you in the least with anything UPS related. You're better off dropping off at Staples next door; at least they're helpful. Second, the customer service is atrocious. The Manager (the MANAGER) basically blew me off from the second I walked in. Why? Oh, because I was dropping off a prepaid return shipment and as I was told "we don't make a dime off of that." I had a simple question - it turned into an event simply because the MANAGER (red hair, beard) couldn't take the time (he was just vacuuming...not kidding) to answer a basic question. This place is terrific! I travel internationally a lot and send and receive mail and packages though this store. They have never been anything but super helpful and considerate. I am sometimes gone for as long as nine months, and they hold my mail and packages for me with no hassles. It is a small store, but that area of Alexandria doesn't have a lot of space anyway. First, let me say I am biased toward UPS Store PMBs after dealing with the US Post Office. I have had a PMB now for well over three years in multiple states. I've been at this location for over six months and couldn't be happier. The staff are always friendly and very helpful here. If one of the newer guys does not know an answer, they'll find it for you. I have never had to wait more than a few minutes in order to send something. They always have what you need on hand for packaging and shipping. Anyone who sends packages and parcels home for the holidays and waited until the last week to do so (this guy) paid the price of waiting in a ridiculous line at any Post Office. Truthfully, I walked in and sent all four of my parcels in under five minutes from here the week before Christmas. The ease and convenience of this UPS Store is unmatched. Terrible service. Had an expensive gift of wine delivered here. Went in on a Saturday morning to pick it up and was like I was invisible. When I finally attracted the attention of a very young clerk who clearly hated his life he tapped a few keys and said "it's not here". Then disappeared into the back. After some time I went back to look for him as no one had returned. He seemed unsuprised as bd said "check the website" I was attempting to show him the delivery confirmation notice but he did not care to see. At the point I had to go into "let me speak to your manager " mode. An older man appeared and claimed he was not the manager but repeated the advice to check the website. Meanwhile I'm on hold with UPS. When a representative finally picked up she confirmed the package was indeed in the store. At this point the young clerk without any eye contact said "here it is". It literally has been on the floor NEXT TO HIM the entire 30 minutes. Do not patronize this location. Other UPS outlets nearby are MUCH better. read more

For over a year I've gone out of my way to give these guys my personal and professional business for all my mailing needs. The same man is there each time but has never acknowledged recognizing me. Today I popped in to ask advice for dealing with UPS on a delivery issue. I was up front & clear in stating my awareness that he has a privately owned store and I was simply hoping for advice. There was no one in line behind me. When I started my question he scowled at me and said "We don't work for UPS" as if I hadn't just acknowledged that. This UPS store had the opportunity to make my life infinitely easier and refused. David, the presumed manager and self-identified small business owner, was extremely rude. He interrupted me multiple times while we were talking and raised his voice to insist that I was asking him to break the law when in fact I asked him to bend the rules for my extenuating circumstances and show me kindness. Background: my bank has been trying to send me a new debit card (which expired at the end of January) for the whole month of January. Twice it was stolen or undelivered via regular mail. They used UPS Express mail to guarantee delivery. I am out of state so I had the package redirected to this local UPS Store over the weekend. I explicitly stated who I'd like the package released to in my "special instructions" field where I *paid* to have my package redirected. On Tuesday I spoke with corporate to verify delivery (it hadn't been scanned in a couple days). They encouraged me to call the store directly to ensure delivery considering the circumstances because the package could not be redirected to my out of state location due to contractual obligations with my banking institution. I called this UPS Store location to insure it would be released to my designee prior to them driving over there, etc. David's employee was very nice and helpful when he answered the phone. He said they'd release the package and that they do it routinely. Then he hesitated and said he needed to ask his manager. He came back in the line and said he was being told they couldn't do it. I asked to speak with the manager...David came on the line with a chip on his shoulder from the get go. I explained my extenuating circumstances and made my request to David. He refused. I said corporate told me to arrange delivery with his store. He started to raise his voice, interrupt, and said the same things repeatedly - I was putting his small business at risk by asking him to break the law (not a law...a corporate policy) and that corporate could redirect my package (which is 100% untrue having spoken to the regional manager of actual UPS and my bank). He was clearly angry that I felt like showing my kindness was something I was "entitled" to. I assured him I wasn't entitled but that I was asking because I have ZERO access to cash or card right now. Let's hit that point again...I have plenty of money but I can't access it because this man is holding my card hostage. Think about your life with no plastic card or access to cash. Am I really asking for him to risk his business? No. I'm asking him to be decent and kind. I said again "it's my package and my designee. If you need me to verify who I am, I will do whatever you want. Would you like me to fax you my drivers license?" He continued to escalate the situation, raise his voice, and interrupt while refusing any of my attempts to verify my identity. Finally I said that was his choice to conduct business and treat customers like this and that I would be sharing my experience on social media. Then he got really angry...like, happy I wasn't there in person angry. "NOW YOURE THREATENING ME?!?" No, I'm not threatening you. I'm going to share my experience. I've asked you to show me kindness with extenuating circumstances I can't control and you're yelling and mischaracterizing the situation (law vs corporate policy, saying that I'm not telling the truth, etc). "WELL IF YOU DO THAT...I'LL RESPOND AND THEN EVERYONE WILL KNOW YOU'RE TRYING TO HURT MY SMALL BUSINESS" Sir, most people have been in a similar situation...other customers will understand my position. Yes, I have asked for him to bend the rules for to extenuating circumstances. He could have just politely and calmly said no and explained why with respect and dignity. There was zero reason for yelling, attacking my integrity/character, or interrupting repeatedly. That's why I'm posting this review. It's not that he said no...it's the way he treated me while he did i Here's the thing...I love small business owners because they have the power to do the exact kind of thing I was asking for...genuinely help customers in need. I work hard to shop local and SBA. David's employee was clear - they do it all the time - so it's not as though I was asking for special treatment. I was asking for treatment many people have gotten at this very store according to David's employee. The situation was so absurd that when I had a phone meeting with the regional manager of actual UPS later this afternoon, he was flabbergasted at David's behavior towards a customer and provided me the complaint line for franchised UPS locations. UPDATE: My designee w/ his photo ID attempted to pick up this package. His name matched the special instructions I put on the forward. He had a gov issued ID and all the numbers, etc. UPS refused and there was a note on my package so that any employee would know not to release it. This was not policy, this was personal. read more
