I have concerns about ethical practices in this store. Over Christmas, I witnessed employees outright lie to other customers about the cheapest option to ship a package; multiple people balked at the quoted price, reiterated they wanted the cheapest option without regard to timing, and were still met with very high quotes. I was as well, and I received the same "nope, this is cheapest" response--but after I pushed, the employee finally relented that there was another option (less than half the cost!) but "delivery date isn't guaranteed." As I'd already confirmed, I didn't need a guaranteed delivery, so I took that cheapest option. Today I witnessed something similar. A customer was trying to ship a small box (perhaps 8x12x4-pretty standard Amazon-ish box) and was told the cheapest price was upwards of $240!! He confirmed that was the cheapest price, and asked to see the screen--at which point the employee conceded "well there's this option that isn't guaranteed but estimated for Thursday..." Same old song and dance. The customer declined to pay, stating when he checked online, the estimate was $14. The employee responded "yeah, that might only be when YOU print the label." WTF?? The customer left. At my turn, my label "wouldn't scan" and they suggested I print another one (printing starts at $3.50, per the sign at their desk); I declined. I plan to take my package to another store and see if it scans there (it's a pre-printed return label, not like a half-hazy home inkjet print), and $5 says they have no issues at another store It's such a shame because this location is so convenient, but I've seen enough sketchiness to go elsewhere from now on. read more

This store has implemented a discriminatory policy regarding picking up a package. They prohibit a spouse with a different last name from picking up a package (even though the spouse has the UPS email with their name and that email shows the tracking number). This runs counter to the specific instructions from UPS: "Option 3: Present a government-issued photo ID where the full address or name on the ID matches the full address or name on the package. If the last name or full address doesn't match, you will need to provide the package tracking number to the UPS Access Point representative. " The store's explanation is that they've set their own policy that the package recipient must be the person picking up the package. The store would not take the steps to validate my ability to pick up the package (i.e. Option 3). When I pointed out the specific UPS policy noting Option 3, the response was that the store's policy was the drivers license of the person to whom the package is addressed must be presented. When I restated that this runs contrary to Option 3 from the specific UPS policy, the store responded that they could set their own policy. This discriminates against same sex couples, domestic partner couples, or other relationship statuses. Do not give your business to such an entity. Avoid and use another UPS store. read more

There was an Indian man at the front desk who served me and was extremely rude to me and refused to take my package. I came in very friendly and was met with a cold stare and a rude monotone response. I have never had any issues shipping packages at the UPS store in Old Town or Shirlington. The customer service left me in tears when I left. It was unacceptable and I do not recommend this store. read more

I have recently started to use the services of my local Del Ray area UPS story and am really impressed with the number of services they can provide and the super-helpful staff. Neyda and Chiachi recently teamed up to design and print business cards and did a beautiful job. I recently completed a book on leadership and they converted the book cover to the back of my business card -- it looks great! Other recent services include glossy 2-sided flyers about my book and copies of photos on card stock that I had framed into a beautiful collage as a top-quality gift for an aging friend. I've been consistently disappointed by this store. Systems down. Rude employees. This morning was the icing on the cake. I came in with an Amazon return. No other customers were in the store. The guy in the photo (old white guy, short buzz cut), was on the phone - not with a customer, but with another employee. I say hello (with no response), stand at the desk for a while, and he finally comes over while still on the phone. Never bothers to make eye contact or put his colleague on hold for a 20-second exchange. Proceeds to engage with me by throwing his hands in the air, putting his hand up in a "stop" motion. Some bizarre game of charades. Then throws the receipt at me. All without saying a word. Sick of this unacceptable "customer service". read more

Terrible service.... do not use this store. I was referred to use this store and contacted this company two weeks before needing an item in my hands for an important, overseas trip. You'd think that would be enough time. Slow to answer emails saying they were busy and would get to it. As my departure date neared, and after they said they had my item, I specifically told them that I needed it as quick as possible (overnight) as I was taking this item on my overseas trip. This was an important gift for this trip! What did they do???? They shipped it ground!!!! It arrived four days after my departure and while on my trip. I drove out of my way to use this store because of the ratings. I was very disappointed at the customer service. I was treated so rudely by the employee at the front desk. He didn't even apologize for his behavior. I was there to drop off a package but I needed the receipt. I was waiting patiently and quietly while he was helping a client. He proceeds to tell me in a rude tone that I can drop off the package on the scale with the other packages and I nodded. He rudely repeated again thinking maybe I didn't understand where I had to be assertive and let him know I am waiting and in of a need a receipt. Why else would I wait in line patiently with my package? He was kind to the elderly client ahead of me but super rude to me. They need training in how they address people. read more

These folks really know how to make sure our packages and returns have dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's so the delivery goes smoothly. It's always such a lukewarm experience here. Every. Single. Solitary. Time. From the managers to the staff. It's the strangest thing. I know everyone hates Amazon returns but guess what; they're a part of doing business. If it's not your cup of tea, don't offer that service. This isn't my only concern with this location. Everyone here treats you like you're burdening their day. Not a great feeling - not from a small business. You'd expect this at a Walmart. I live close by so unfortunately if I need to use UPS (not just Amazon returns as I also use it for shipping), I've gotta come here. I would avoid this place at all costs. I know working retail can be challenging but guess what? Lots of folks would love to have your job (any job for that matter). I have had to do this a number of times for various reasons in government service and Mike did the best work I've seen. Crystal Goins and her teammate jumped through hoops to get an expensive office chair shipped for me. They tried to see if it could be sent via cheaper means, but when that didn't work they did everything to ensure the cost would be as low as possible given how large the chair was. They even built a custom box for shipment. Seeing her and her teammate work with customers at the register, while simultaneously working on my unique shipment, was a masterclass in multi-tasking while meeting customer expectations. I went to this store several days ago and spoke to them about a quote to pack and ship something. They quoted me $35. When I brought it in to ship it was $139. Won't go back to this store or UPS. I have used this store for years for shipping and returns. Even when there is a long line, the staff is efficient and polite and friendly. My only comment is that the last time I was there, it was very near closing, and the employee said the estimated delivery day for ground shipping would be the next day, but that was not guaranteed. I commented that delivery the next day would be impossible, as I had seen the UPS truck leave, and I knew that the next pickup would not be until late the next day. The person confirmed that indeed the UPS truck had left, but then said "that's why I said the delivery day is not guaranteed." I suggested that perhaps it would be better not to tell customers "next day" if that was truly impossible. Again, I received the response of "that's why I said the delivery day is not guaranteed." I then realized that the "date" the person was quoting was simply what the computer was showing, and the computer was not taking into account that the day's pickup had already occurred. Maybe there is a way to adjust the computer once that day's pickup has occurred? read more

Rude, hostile and belligerent! Was with a friend trying to drop off an Amazon package and they were very rude to her. All three employees there were hostile and rude. In addition they said "Amazon always says drop off a package without rewrapping"..."we don't work for Amazon" and "we are a franchise". My friend of Indian descent felt she was being verbally attacked and felt this was a very racist response from the store employees. They said they're take the shipment if she paid them to rewrap the package. And this is in Del Ray! Ha, a complaint has been filed with Amazon. All of you who have this kind of experience at this store needs to open a complaint with Amazon on how this store is treating customers who try to return goods, and with the UPS store corporate. I've never seen this kind of issue before and I've gone to lots of UPS stores over the years for returns and never had a problem. I emailed the file I needed color copies of, and they were ready in less than 30 min. They are always courteous, efficient, and they get through the (inevitable, this IS Del Ray!) line quickly. I lost a receipt from them tHat I needed and called to ask if they could reprint one--I thought I'd have to go in and pick it up. Nikira went out of her way to find it, scan it, and email it to me! First Yelp review. I'm a weekly UPS customer at the Mt Vernon Ave location. There has been a noticeable change in their customer service - staff is short in temperament bordering on rude - short with customers, and not helpful in providing mailing options, or much else. There are no automatic doors so if u come in with large packages, you are left to manage trying to open a heavy door. Even with no other customers in the store, both clerks stand behind a counter without offering to help or hold open door, instead just watch you struggle. They have always accepted the occasional USPS small package but informed me they no longer do. Ironically I passed a USPS postman coming into the store with a mail truck outside for a pickup. The UPS Store on MtVernon Ave now stands out as a most unfriendly store in an otherwise cheerful and helpful community. read more

Easy, fast passport photos. I called this location to see if they do passport photos. Someone answered the phone. Already, this put them ahead of Staples. The person on the phone answered my questions quickly and politely. When I arrived, their camera wasn't "down," "broken," or otherwise inoperable. Now they were ahead of CVS, the USPS (where I had an appointment), and a different UPS location. They took my photo with their camera and uploaded it into their system printing the photos out for me. That put them ahead of the CVS I tried before that wanted me to take the photos with my phone and plug a random USB cable into it to upload the photos into their system and print them, myself. The young person who helped me (Shalik? - I should have written the name down to remember correctly) was extremely kind and helpful and got everything done as quickly as possible. I should have gone here first. Learn from my mistakes and save yourself the headaches. read more

Is the a zero star option? The worst customer service I have ever experienced all the way from the cashier who greeted me to the manager (Mike I believe). I will drive 30 minutes to go to another location or use FedEx or USPS next time. There were two employees in the who were kind but the rest were extremely disrespectful and inpatient. I was hoping to send some packages to my family for Christmas and was unsure about my options for shipping. I ask if they could share the options with me and she immediately becomes irritable. She gives me a price of 47 dollars. I think okay, not bad, but maybe there is a cheaper option. I ask is there anything else. She points to bags on the shelf and I couldn't see them at first and I kindly ask if she can tell me again where they are. She again becomes extremely irritable with me because I couldn't see them. I then ask about flat rate boxes instead and this is when she gives me the price while scoffing and rolling her eyes. At this point I am thinking about my options and she is rushing me (I'm the only one in the store). I stated "I get that me not knowing the prices and not knowing exactly what I need to ship can be frustrating, but please have some patience". She proceeded to laugh at me. I said that's not very nice and asked to speak to a manager about her behavior. The manager storms out from his office and tells me to get out of the store and that she did not do anything wrong. I have to admit it: I'm more of a USPS kind of gal myself. Or so I thought before coming here... I must say that this is one of the nicest postal branches of any service I've ever been to. And I mean nice in both the sense that the employees were great and the store itself was in awesome condition. I came here to get fingerprinted. I had called ahead to confirm that they had that service available (the person on the phone was very helpful and courteous). Someone was able to help me right away. I had printed out a (flimsy) paper fingerprinting sheet, but the UPS store provided one for me, made of strong cardstock. I'm glad we used that because I think the ink may have bled through otherwise. The person taking the prints was apparently certified to do so (at least that's what the stamp he used and signed said). The total was $14.95, which is about $5 more than getting it done at the police station, but for the service here and the cardstock (the police station makes you bring your own) it's worth the extra few bucks. Though the store was small, it definitely suited my needs perfectly! I came in on a dreary Tuesday afternoon, so that may have explained why the store was like a ghost town... I liked how quiet and empty it was (a nice contrast to the local USPS) and that everyone was actually doing their job. The entire process was so fast (partially because it was empty and partially because of the great workers). And the store was super clean too. Like, freshly vacuumed, everything wiped down clean. Plus it smelled like copy machines. (You know that smell from the hot paper after running through the machine? I hope you do and I'm not just crazy...) I definitely will be back again! And I may even ship a package here every once in a while. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have been a customer of this UPS Store franchise for over 3 years. Previous to the recent new management I always experienced excellent and expedient customer service. Sadly, since the management changeover (by a man who acts more like a military drill Sargent -- barking out "his" way of doing things), the overall service has changed in quality, cost, reliability, and even the competence in the ways of doing business that gives a customer confidence. The staff from the manager on down seem clueless as to the standards expected of a UPS Store, and lacking in knowledge of some of the most basic services, costs, etc. Folks, I live in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood and I know this location is convenient. However, unless you are into being strong-armed into paying for services you don't need, and having to deal with both oblivious and rude customer service, take an extra few minutes to get to a Kinkos/FedEx, where no matter which store I go to in the vicinity I find knowledgeable, fast, friendly management and staff. BTW, two more quick points: 1) I know people at UPS corporate headquarters who will be appalled to hear of my experience with this particular franchise; and 2) I know that UPS is making a big move to get a larger share of the market for those who ship because of eBay sales and similar small business users of shipping services. My advice -- to save yourself from being treated poorly, having the store manager bark orders at you, and dealing with other employees who are clueless or worse, condescending -- steer clear of the UPS Store on Mt. Vernon Av. in our beloved Delray neighborhood! read more

I felt compelled to write a 5 star review for this place. Simply put, this is the single best UPS store I have ever used. And I have used *many* UPS stores, as well as FedEx and USPS locations in the line of work and cross country moves. This is like the standard for what a UPS store *should* be. I wish every UPS store I used could be like the Del Ray location. I am not even kidding in my appreciation of this particular UPS store. The 3 star review below me is not an accurate or fair reflection at all of the Del Ray UPS location. UPS prices are set by the corporate office, so it's not really fair to single out a single store for pricing. The difference is that each individual UPS location is run by a franchisee so each location is very different in terms of competence, service, and customer care. Just check my review for the Capitol Hill UPS (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-ups-store-washington-14) or the Foggy Bottom UPS (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-ups-store-washington-7) which has TEN 1-star reviews. Some UPS locations suck unbelievable donkey parts because they are managed and run by napoleonic troglodytes and their uneducated minions. Not this location! Every time I used the Del Ray UPS, the employees were incredibly friendly and helpful. The store itself is clean and spacious and very well lit with natural sunlight. The employees are very well trained and also proactive, they don't stare blankly at you or their computer screen and they actively work with you to solve problems. They even had a customer appreciation day when I went in once where they had a platter of sandwiches available. Who does that these days? I love this UPS location. It fits in very well with the "small town" neighborhood vibe of Del Ray, and yes, you can grab a frozen custard at Fairy Godmother's next door when you're done shipping. :D read more

Yeah, these guys are the bomb diggity. Super helpful, especially when a frantic chick calls looking for her One True To Do List, which inadvertently got stuck to the side of a box she dropped off to ship. Not only did they have the list when I called (like 2 hours later), they scanned it and sent it to me (I was too far away to come back for it). Didn't even charge me for the scanning even though I'm pretty sure that's usually a paid service. (And bonus points for not making me feel like a dork for having a two page annotated to do list.) I have been a happy customer of our local UPS Store for over six years. During this time, they have consistently exceeded my expectations. With a son in college in Colorado, I have shipped lots of expensive and sensitive musical equipment. It always arrives intact and on-time, and I receive status updates (including delivery time) via text and email. I was pleasantly surprised to find how many services our local UPS store provides, including personal mailing address (on Mt. Vernon Avenue) with 24-hour access, copying services (including color), business cards and supplies and personal computer workspace with wifi access. Owners Linda and Steve Hubbard give new meaning to Customer Service. Your challenge is their challenge, and they can always find a solution to your shipping or business needs. read more
