I will update this review when I moved my items out in one week. I just moved my things inside the storage today. Pro 1.) The front desk girl was super nice, helpful and she always seem to be working or cleaning. She helped me carry the moving supplies to my trunk. So far, her personality and hard work has been the best part of this experience. Con: 1.) Their 10 X 10 is definitely not 10 x 10. I do math for a living and grew up with a dad that own a construction company. I'm a minimalist. And my 2 bedroom (no kitchen of bathroom items) were so hard for my professional movers who also said it was not a 10 x 10. 2.) There were no lights in the unit. The movers had to grab a flashlight out their truck to moved my things in. So we couldn't see and it also can lead to serious accidents. And it also takes away a customer being able to take a good look for mole, leaks and rat poop. 3.) As others mentioned,It's not climate controlled!! Their definition of climate control is the ceiling being open and a net across the unit itself. There were debris on top of the net. After reading the reviews about rats and mice, I kinda want to call the movers and tell them to move my things asap. I'm praying that I do not see any rats droppings on my things of I will flip my lid. This is such a well known company that I had high expectations. Next time, I will probably drive to a storage unit before hand to see inside and make sure the advertisement matches reality. I attached the pictures so you can see how dark this unit space is. There's no sunlight or lights to use inside. Only a few lights sprinkled in the hallway.

I don't patronize unethical businesses, and although I had a storage reservation here, I cancelled once I found out this business engages in false advertising. I reserved a climate-controlled unit online (see attached image). When I arrived to sign paperwork, the onsite folks walked me through the units and told me that none of the units are climate-controlled and they've never had A/C or heating at this site. This shady business practice created some problems for me, because I had hired movers and given them the Public Storage address for delivery that day. Fortunately, by taking extra time off work, I was able to rent storage (at a slightly better rate) at Extra Space Storage in Shirlington and direct the movers there. Bonus: the common areas in that building were much cleaner and better maintained than the common areas at this Public Storage. (Unfortunately, I'm still waiting to find out if the movers will charge me extra for the last-minute change.) Bottom line, think twice before giving Public Storage your business. Do you want to reward a business that deceives customers? I sure don't.

    Mattress + rats = garbage.

Oh rats! Seriously, so many rats. Apparently my unit (and others) were/are home to a whole bunch of rats. When I came last week to get some stuff out of my unit, I immediately noticed a LOT of rat poop on the floor of my unit. I soon discovered it was also everywhere else in my unit: rat poop on my furniture, rat poop on my area rugs, rat poop on my mattresses, and rat poop anywhere else you could imagine. My unit backs up to the main entrance area and I saw two rat-sized holes leading directly into my unit. When I called in to report it, I was told that they already knew about the rats and had put in a work order to fix the holes, "a while ago." Indeed there was a scrap of wood laying next to one of the holes - it was more of a welcome mat for the rats and less a barrier. When I asked why they hadn't sent any notice out to the customers about the rat problem, the woman on the phone told me they had no ways of doing mass e-mails. When I asked why they hadn't called me since there were two obvious rat holes leading directly into my unit, the woman said, "I don't know that they go into your unit; it's not like I stuck my hand inside to see what was in there." Touché. I mean, even though I came to the conclusion that a known rat problem + rat-sized holes behind my unit = likely rat problem inside my unit, not everyone is going to have my Columbo-esque detective skills. The woman did offer to check with her manager about giving me one month of free rent, but never got back to me with the answer. My guess is no, because it looks like they spent my monthly payment on a sheet of metal to cover the rat holes. Over the years I've had other gripes about this Public Storage -- mainly that they only ever increase your rent, never decrease it. That meant that people newly renting were paying 50% less than me. The only way to solve the problem was to rent a new unit and move everything from old to new. It wasn't optimal, but it worked. The rat issue, though, takes the cake and brings my ire with Public Storage to a whole new rat-infested level. Thank you, Public Storage, for allowing me the honor to pay you several hundred dollars a month to have all of my items covered in rat poop. I feel truly blessed.

    They have mice.

That was the time it took for me to sign the lease, find that my lock wouldn't fit, leave to get another one and drive back. When I returned with all of my boxes to put in storage, I realized that I hadn't inspected the storage unit. Since I was more concerned with the size of the unit, as soon as Zach (a manager) showed me a few options, I quickly signed up. When I returned and started to move in I noticed piles of mouse droppings all around the perimeter of the unit walls! I had to turn on my flashlight to see because the lighting in the unit isn't great. I immediately removed my things and left. I called the after hours number and cancelled my lease. I wish I'd read the reviews and not wasted my time. Since this place clearly has a pest issue it's interesting that one of the other workers (Aiden) bragged that others have moved to THIS location due to rats at OTHER storage facilities. So that was either a BLATANT LIE or he is negligently unaware that the place where he works is just as dirty. SMH. I'm actually glad the office was closed when I got back because I might have been convinced to move to other unit. However, this level of infestation is definitely throughout the building. I have no idea why this place has 5-star reviews. The true reviews are scattered but they're RECENT. Do your homework and AVOID THIS PLACE.

I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

I have never been so disrespected and just generally slimed as a paying customer to a service provider. I had a great experience in the first half of my process with CityStash when my things were collected for storage. They weren't the most professional team, they bumbled around and were rushing, apologizing for knocking things into walls but never stopped rushing. That said, they were good, kind people and I was happy to look past a little damage-free klutziness. When it came time to have my things delivered, the situation went south quickly. At the very end, I think possibly even after my delivery window, I got a call saying they were running late and hadn't even picked up my things from the warehouse to be delivered. I had been calling the main line for updates but didn't get a call back for hours, long after they would have known they wouldn't make it within the delivery window. Again, while it was annoying and could have been handled better, these things happen and I was willing to look past it. The delivery was finally made about 7pm and the movers again arrived flustered and rushed through the process, again banging into things and dinging walls. I assured them it was no big deal and not to worry, I understood sometimes life goes wrong. Once they had finished putting everything in the house, they let me know they had misplaced the specific hardware to reassemble a major piece of bedroom furniture - dresser with attachable mirror. I was told they would collect new screws from Home Depot and see me "first thing in the morning," calling me about an hour before they arrived. The next day I waited until 11 before I began calling, again waiting hours for a callback. This is when I began to get frustrated. When the owner finally called me back around 4pm, he said to me: "I don't know who told you that or why, but that was never going to happen." After exercising a healthy dose of patience and understanding through this, I had now taken not one but two unnecessary days off of work and a snarky remark from he business owner was the last thing I wanted to hear. Two full days later, the job was complete beginning on Tuesday and ending on Friday. The owner will likely be surprised by this review, though I'm not sure why. I clearly communicated my frustrations and he took little to no responsibility for the issues, blaming everything largely on the team he had sent in. When he wasn't blaming his team, he was all but shrugging his shoulders at me. While they certainly were part of the problem, my real grievance rests with him, who handled the situation with the grace and professionalism of a kindergartner in a boardroom. I was refunded $35 for the over half of a week of inconvenience, which perhaps was more insulting than no acknowledgement at all.

They also said they would come try to fix the dresser that they damaged, but they never committed to a time to come and eventually started ignoring my emails. The concept is great but if they are going to carelessly break things then that is worse than them not moving anything at all.

Perhaps I interrupted her break? She seemed really irritated by the one question I asked in response to her asking me if I had any questions, rolling her eyes and mumbling under her breath openly throughout our entire interaction. In the middle of the process of me renting a storage space, she literally ran out of the store to yell at someone that she thought was about to park nearby. I thought about ducking out right then but honestly I was afraid she'd chase me down yelling too. Predictably, when the charges hit my card 2 days later it was a different price than I was quoted by Selam. I returned to the store with my contract and the paperwork printed and signed in that very location showing the discrepancy, only to be told by a large bearded kid behind the desk that he "was only a part-time employee" and that he "couldn't help me." Wild!
