I rented a small storage locker a few months ago that I found to be a bit to small. So, today I went to the Four Mile Run facility where mine is to see if I could switch. Wow, I was in and out of there in 10 minutes! Tony showed me the bigger 5 x 5 which is perfect. He switched it in his system, I paid what I need to pay, and I was done. While I have no issues with the management of the location that I use, I wanted to mention a rather bizarre pricing practices. They keep increasing rates (and I am told that this is done centrally, not locally) while advertising similar units at much lower prices. So what I end up doing is periodically moving from one unit to another to secure new, lower price. That is fine when you have a small unit, but can be a hassle when it is a big one. read more

I rented a large (10'x20') unit at this facility in June 2019. After only five months, they raised my rent 34% --- I've never heard of an increase like this! Chris talked with the regional office and apparently got the increase cut back to "only" 21% as indicated by the amount due for January. However, they neglected to refund the difference on my December payment! Be VERY careful if you rent from these folks. You may get an attractive deal up front - but the algorithms Extra Space Storage uses will nail you. And it's clearly inconvenient to move out on a moment's notice --- so they think they have you by the short hairs. read more

I stored some of my stuff that didnt fit into my temporary housing for a year while I waited out covid to relocate for my new job! Could not be happier with Extra Space. The storage was super clean and safe. It was super easy to get to and get stuff in and out. And it was a breeze for my movers to move stuff out. They had trolleys that made it extremely faster. If I am ever in NOVA and need storage again, I will go with these guys! All my experiences with managers (Tony and Josh) setting up my space and moving out was very nice and easy. Been renting multiple units here for over 5 years. The current management team is great. I promise you will not find a more helpful staff and you will not find a cleaner climate controlled building. They have been more than fair with me and know me by name when I walk in. -It's month to month and there are increases... but this company allows you to lock in a rate if you agree to pay ahead... most do not. I pay 12 months at a time and they even throw in a 13th month on the house. Any increases are negotiable and recently the manager lowered my rate. -I have not seen any signs of pests. The place is spotless compared to other facilities in the area. -I have been late on my bill and they are more than fair even calling me prior to a late fee hitting to make me aware. I was told they do not sell items at auction until at least 60 days of non payment, but it's often a longer time than that. A+ read more

In terms of customer service, cleanliness of the facilities, and availability of moving equipment, this place is great. That said, they have had some roll-up gate issues that continue to vex them. HOWEVER, I left this facility because they raised my rent as soon as they possibly could (after the normal monthly rate kicked in). That really sucks in terms of scaring the &^%$ out of me that this was going to continue...so I moved to Security Public Storage in Herndon (who agreed to a rate cap). If not for that price gouging increase, I would have stayed a long time. read more

This review is for the office only - I am not using their facilities. Last week I came here to look at some options for storage - my fiance and I have moved in together and not only have to fit two different homes into one tiny apartment in Alexandria, but the gifts from the wedding registries are coming in and we're just completely out of space. The facility is clean, and it's close to the Shirlington Dog Park. The parking situation is limited, but they do have the area where you can actually pull your car up to a huge garage door and unload your items. When I arrived, the store manager, Claudia, was AWESOME. She was just coming back from showing another potential client the facility and was very pleasant to talk to. Unfortunately, there was a woman who came in after me and demanded to be served first, as she "places to go!!!". Claudia kept her cool the ENTIRE time (I would have lost it long before) and was just very calm and polite when she explained that she could only take customers one at a time, and in the order they arrived. Claudia was super cool and explained the options that she had available. She showed me everything that I wanted to see and even apologized for the rude customer (even though it wasn't her fault, and still, I commend her for her professionalism). When I explained to her that I was still going to look around, she offered to hold a space for me for a week. Ultimately, we went with another company (it was cheaper and closer to the neighborhood that we're looking to buy a house in), but I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to have a storage unit in Shirlington. Claudia was THE BEST to work with, and the customer service usually speaks more to me than the actual service. read more

After safeguarding my things at Extra Space Storage for so many years, I keep getting reminders about what a good decision I made when I chose to store my things here. I had a worry (which turned-out to be unnecessary) and called the facility and Tony IMMEDIATELY answered my call and helped me. He is both friendly and professional, and it's totally apparent that he CARES. So, not only are the facilities kept TOTALLY CLEAN and climate controlled, but the company is smart enough to get talented employees who care about customers. After Tony helped me, the next day I got a follow-up from Josh. My things that I keep at Extra Space Storage are not particularly valuable, but they're important to ME, and it's so awesome--and rare today--to have a business relationship with a company that actually tries to do a SUPERIOR job and that hires great people and trains them well. My wife searched the internet for reputable storage companies and Extra Space Storage came up with very high ratings for very good service at reasonable prices. We had to come back to the USA suddenly from an overseas assignment and we needed place to store some of our air freight items that will not fit into the small apartment which we are renting before going back overseas again. John, the customer service rep at the facility site in Shirlington was very polite, courteous, friendly and welcoming. He explained the rental site, showed us some empty storage spaces and explained the costs clearly. We decided to up-grade to a slightly larger unit than we planned on renting, so that we would not have to bend over to store or remove items. They had good trolleys to take our dozen boxes inside and good elevators between the floors. The facility is clean, temperature-controlled, safe and seems very well managed. John was very professional in helping us to complete the rental agreement and in accessing the facility to store our boxes. We are very satisfied with John and the site. Thank you. read more

It is okay. The facility is clean and people are friendly. Just be warned about their online specials. They don't tell you that the specials only last a few months then the rate per month increases astronomical. If I was told that, I would have chose my unit differently. Now, I'm stuck cause I can't get people there to move me out and move me into another unit. Ask lots of questions about the rate and know what you are getting into. Since they run a month to month business, they can do shady things cause the original lease you sign doesn't really matter after one month. read more
