I needed to rent a storage space in Pittsburgh and was told I could take care of the paperwork at a facility near me.

UPDATED REVIEW FOLLOWING FEEDBACK FROM SROA: Their District…read moreTeam Lead, Jessica Weaver, gave me a call following their below response to discuss pricing and the facility. She did a very great job of working with me and helping lower the rate from the potential $337 increase from $259, to offering me a $175 rate for the troubles. I have agreed with this and after discussions with her I agreed to update my review with this feedback, but I did advise I was not able to move it to 5 stars due to the still constant issues with the grounds of the facility. But 5 star customer service for sure for following through quickly and giving me the rate offered. With facility improvement it will for sure be 5 stars, which I'll gladly update it to. I am leaving some of the original review just for background to see what the Team Lead helped with. Edited Original Review: Storage rate began 9/2022 at $61/m for first 3 month promo than went to $122. Increased to $197 in 2/2023, then $230 8/2023, then $259 6/2024. And before the assistance of the District Team Lead, it was going to jump to $337 starting 9/2025 (see new review above). The facility needs a lot of work on the grounds, especially the 10 foot long pothole. Pavement on the roads around the units are not fantastic and could be better, it is still not climate controlled or anything. I'm a retired and 100% disabled veteran and they don't even offer anything to help with the cost of these units to us. They only offer discounts for Active-Duty military.

No lighting in the units and there's always bugs, You will get what you paid for though!read more

It was Bookstore Movers' excellent customer service that earns them 5 stars. The 3 movers showed up early and worked very quickly and efficiently. In that haste, some items were damaged and I offered that feedback in the follow-up survey. I quickly received a call from the company offering to discount my move and send Walter Davies, a furniture repair person, out to make furniture repairs. That concern for customers and making things right earns Bookstore Movers 5-star service. Walter Davies was excellent and thorough in repairing my furniture. If you have a move coming up, call Bookstore Movers. Lisa C.

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

BEWARE and DO NOT RENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Due to a recent transition, I moved out of my…read morePublic Storage unit of 3 years and my mom rented a unit to offload her items from my unit. I submitted a move out in December but scheduled the actual move for Jan 3rd because I couldn't move out on New Years Eve. I thought surely I wouldn't be charged the full month if we only used 3 days in January. However on Jan 3rd, I received a charge of $460 for the full month of January. I called the office to confirm I would get a partial refund and was told "I can't prorate and we don't prorate". I explained we had been customers since 1985 and after some back and forth it was obvious they had no intent to refund or discount part of the month's charges. That means instead of paying $44.49 for 3 days of usage, we paid $153.33/day in January. Also, I and my family have rented units from public storage for 40 years. Sometimes we had 1 unit, others we had as many as 3 units but the money paid to Public Storage is roughly $200,000 over that 40 years. Rent has always gone up here an there but about 8 years, Public Storage started an obscene fee increase campaign which resulted in about $50/mo to $100/mo increases every year. My mom is retired and on a fixed income. As a result, we started spending every Christmas holiday purging things from our storage units. However, because city living is so tight we would always require some form of external storage. With the high costs of moving facilities we never had much choice but to accept the increases. A couple years ago, I learned Public Storage was charging new customers a quarter of the rent they had charged us for years. I periodically checked and new customer rates are still much much lower than existing customers. So as a big thank you to long term customers for spending so much, they give discounts to new customers and drain us financially. So now after 40 years, I'm done. I will NEVER RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE AGAIN, I'm moving my elderly mother out of the unit she just rented and I will make sure everybody in the U.S. learns of our experience and DON'T rent from them. Signed, VERY dissatisfied and customer never again!

I would strongly caution anyone considering renting from Self Storage Plus on Eisenhower Avenue in…read moreAlexandria. What initially appears to be a reasonable monthly rate quickly turns into a classic bait-and-switch situation. Most people who rent a storage unit plan to keep it for several months or longer. However, after only about three months, the price of the unit increased by nearly 60%. That kind of sudden jump is something most customers would never reasonably budget for when signing up. To make matters worse, the company sends out a generic postcard apologizing for the "inconvenience" while claiming increased operational costs are being passed on to customers. In reality, it feels like a tactic used to lure customers in with a low introductory price and then dramatically raise the rate once your belongings are already locked inside. These types of excessive and unpredictable price increases are unacceptable for a service people rely on for stability and planning. If you are looking for storage in the Alexandria area, look elsewhere

Do not use this storage facility, you will be robbed. They advertise that they have cameras, yet…read morethey do not have cameras located in any of the interior storage hallways, nor on the outside drive lanes. My unit was broken into, as well as several other units. The managers flatly refused to provide a copy of the incident report, or access to any supposed video surveillance so that I could complete a report to Alexandria PD. Additionally, the "insurance" that you are forced to pay for when renting a unit is a complete scam. They do not actually cover anything valuable. The facility has no security, anyone can just walk right into the storage buildings. My unit was clearly ransacked over a period of time, the lock broken off. The management put a plastic lock band on the door, but never once called or notified me that the lock was missing. When I discovered the lock gone and the unit broken into, the management lied directly to me about having checked and not noticed anything wrong. Would have left zero stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and don't take the risk of falling prey to this gang of thieves.

Free use of the truck is likely not a genuine offer. I went there on three different occasions in the last couple of weeks, as a new customer seeking to use their van for 90 minutes to move two large items, and each time visited on a weekday when I knew the trucks were unlikely to be in use. Each and every time the front desk put me off for a different reason--i.e., you have your driver license but you don't have the $100 "cash deposit" that's required, or you don't have the "account number" that was issued via email (despite my having government issued ID plus the key to the unit and their having computers at the desk), or it's "too late in the day" at 3 pm to use a van for 90 minutes. I went there again today, very hopeful that I had met every hurdle, and this time they told me there was a charge of $39.95 to use the van for the brief period I needed, plus gas (and whatever incidentals they may impose on top of that). The reason given this time was that 4 days had elapsed beyond my initial 30-day move-in period. I pointed out that I had visited on three different occasions in my initial move-in period, and noted that the deadline and all of these other hurdles to use of the van should have been disclosed upfront, as the deadline hadn't been disclosed earlier and seemed like a trap for the unwary. The man at the Shirlington desk blamed his colleague for being "new" and not knowing to tell me all the van requirements up front. He rarely looked me in the eye from his seated position at the desk, and, knowing that he almost certainly was the one who had trained his "new" colleague, I advised him that I'd rent a van from U-haul instead. He protested that Cubesmart offered a better deal on truck rentals. Floored by this response (after viewing the enormous ads posted everywhere around the facdility that promise use of a free truck), I told him that I'd be moving all of my items out of the Shirlington unit at the end of the month. Unfazed, he advised me that I'd better have moved everything out by my announced move-out date. Shirlington customer service reps need much better training, or CubeSmart needs to change its corporate policies.
