The space is nice. Feels secure and never feels sketchy. After about three or four months they raised my monthly fee about 50 percent. I had chosen month to month as I'm not certain about my needs. So lock in a long term rate. Or just avoid shady bait and switch business practices like this. There is no cell service or WiFi in the underground floors B1 and B2, the only floors with climate control. I was not informed of this when I rented my space. I feel very nervous and vulnerable when visiting my storage space, in fear that if I needed help, I would not be able to call the desk or 911. This is a dangerous situation. read more

My organization has been using this site for years, but six months ago the folks there suggested we could get a better deal by moving into a larger space, so we did! I went to see Extra Space in their Dove St location in Alexandria, VA. The service and attention I received was exemplary. I absolutely cannot praise both Mae Sagun (the Manager who showed us around) and Selam (who helped complete the paperwork). Both were super nice, friendly, attentive, and helpful. There was no hard selling ( which I hate) -only providing us assistance to decide on the choices that were available. Mae took her time and showed us a number of different storage sizes on various floors. She was very knowledgeable and was helpful in giving us ideas on how to place things. Let me say this about the staff at my storage location. Ken and Mae were very helpful in finding a new lower priced until. Being handicapped I needed to stay on the ground floor of the building. They did just that in helping me find the new storage unit. I've been leasing a unit at the Alexandria Virginia Extra Space storage for going on two years. I've found this facility to always be clean and never a problem finding a push cart. Ken and Mae have been managing this facility for the two years I've been there. This facility is pretty modern and clean and the employees are friendly. There's not a ton of parking and it can get a little busy on weekends but you can usually squeeze in somewhere. Was initially happy with our unit, which we got to store some furniture to make space for a new baby, but two months in they doubled our rental rate. They sent a letter saying that their operating costs have increased so now rental rates need to increase too BUT I really don't think their operating costs suddenly doubled. I would understand a small or even moderate rate increase but a big one like this doesn't feel right. I suspect it is their MO to get you to store your belongings at a reasonable rate and then suddenly increase it, hoping you either won't notice or that you'll just pay it instead of going through the trouble of moving your stuff back out. Unfortunately it's no longer practical or affordable for us to keep the unit. read more

I am very disappointed in this location. The elevators or dirty, the price is rediculous and the staff will not let you use the bathroom! I get covid measures, but what is one to do when you have to use the bathroom? I bet a lot of guys are able to go outside! So much for COVID-19 measures. read more

I called beforehand to check availability. When I arrived, I was second in line. Once I got to go to the desk, Ken greeted me and inquired as to the reason for my visit. We spoke about my requirements for a storage unit and we were able to find one that worked. We took a look at it to make sure it would. Then he clearly explained the rules, the rent, and everything one would need to know. Supplies are stocked well for purchase. He answered all of my questions. I paid my first months rent and fee. The lease agreement was sent via e-mail to review and sign electronically. All went well. Ken was friendly and knowledgeable. Pleasant experience for what it is. This facility has a staff member that is a complete douche. She's the property manager and has quite likely the worst attitude of anyone else that I've ever seen. She acts like she owns the place and is very quick to snap back at you with rude and disrespectful commentary. The facility is otherwise well managed but horribly under-staffed with only two team-members on duty at any given time. The bathroom is generally unclean and filthy, the elevators work at random and will and operate when the feel like it and are slow to move. Don't lock yourself out of your unit because you'll have a great time getting back in, having to likely hire a locksmith to regain entry. A really good time indeed. For the most part, this facility is clean, service is generally decent, the only problem, is that it's horribly under-staffed, security is extremely lax and the live-in manager is a serious problem in that her attitude is just crappy. She understands nothing of customer service. Absolutely nothing. read more

Storage facility is cheaper than others nearby while not too far off the beaten path, it's pretty convenient getting to from Old Town . Staff was friendly and helpful during the tour and rental setup. The place is clean and secure and I never had a problem getting a spot for easy loading/unloading. I'd say it's an excellent place to store your stuff. Two things to note: 1) They require insurance to cover things stored in the facility so if your homeowner's/renter's insurance will cover items in storage, bring your policy to waive their coverage. 2) If you're heading west on Duke St to get there, you need to make a right onto the access road to make the left across Duke onto Dove St (no left turns from Duke at that light). read more

So far, so good! I researched storage facilities online (readers: also google Extra Space Storage, Dove Street; there are many other positive reviews of this facility on other websites). After a sufficient amount of considering different facilities, I chose this one. Online, I booked a lease-signing appointment, which I had to change multiple times (small kids at home, etc.). Raul, the manager, was very gracious and accommodating. When I went to the facility to sign my lease agreement, I find it extremely clean, tidy, and secure. There are restrooms, security cameras, secured and code-required entry, unobstructed hallways, very large elevators, carts that you can use for transporting items up and down the elevator, soda machine. I met Raul, the manager. He was very professional and efficient. He showed me the unit. And he walked me through the lease agreement, all of which is done on a computer and very straightforward. On my own accord and without any persuasion, I opted to go w/ the $15/mo insurance for $3k coverage, even though Raul suggested I look at my homeowner's policy. However, I knew from their website, prior to my visit, that I would need insurance. So I was expecting this cost. I also bought a lock there, but again, Raul was clear that I could use my own lock. In addition, I signed up for automatic payments (you don't have to; I find it convenient). Since we're billing my credit card, the billing date will be each month on the day that I signed the lease (e.g., the 16th). So, if you want to be billed on a particular date (first of month, end of month), sign your lease on that date. Importantly, the lease is month-to-month. You do not have to commit to a long-term lease. My advice: research online and make the bulk of your decision there (or at least be informed of your options/requirements, e.g., size, insurance, locks, type of lease, cost). Then, once you go into your chose storage facility, you should not have a sales-pitchy/aggressive experience. Also, check your insurance policies for coverage and/or just plan to purchase insurance. Plan to bring your own padlock or buy one there or elsewhere (can't give a price comparison; it's all new to me). Notably - you can reserve or hold a space online w/ Extra Space Storage. Then, you can go scope it out. If you don't like what they're offering/the facility, you can get your deposit back (I believe this to be the case). So, to avoid wandering in and getting the sales pitch, again, know the rates, know your options. If my rates get increased in the next 6 months or I find that service/facility is lacking, I'll definitely do an update. But right now, I'm optimistic (and did not rely solely on Yelp reviews; again, do some broad research). read more

I've been using this place for 3 1/2 years and they've always been super kind and helpful. It's not too overpriced and easy to get into. It's relatively quiet when I go in so there's not waiting times on the elevators. It's really safe and secure because they make sure that everyone comes in with a key code. We don't need them anymore because we have a bigger apartment but if we ever need a place to store stuff again we're going to come here. read more

We have a unit on the B-1 level of the facility. The temperature control is adequate but not great. It always feels a little warmer than I would like in the summer and a little cooler in the winter. i would suggest trying for a unit on one of the upper levels as it may be that those have better temperature control. The leasing process was simple and straight-forward (I've been a customer for about 15 months now) and the staff friendly and helpful. I agree with others that the rates do seem to go up regularly which is actually an incentive for me to hurry up and clear out my unit in the next year. As others have noted, one of the two elevators is now out in the space and has been for several months (I remember it being out in June and is still out in September). This really needs to be fixed as soon as possible. And now there is a construction trailer in the parking lot with a temporary line running across the sidewalk leading to the entrance. This is especially problematic as it makes it impossible to use the ramp at the end of the sidewalk or push a cart beyond where this temporary line has been run. I have always felt safe in this location and it is very convenient to Old Town Alexandria and the Washington Beltway. read more

I've been a customer for nearly three years and moved out this weekend to a competitor. Aside from the broken elevator, they can't seem to be able to afford to fix, they raise rates LIKE CLOCKWORK regardless of the market demand. As of today, my monthly rate is nearly 90% higher than the same unit being offered to new customers. So much for rewarding customer loyalty... Had I stayed, I would be paying DOUBLE what other customers were paying SIMPLY FOR BEING A LOTAL CUSTOMER. Be warned, they take financial advantage of your tenure and claim its to address rising costs... Whose costs increase more than 20% per year? Oh, the second elevator seems like it's about to die too. (I had to help a couple who was stuck in the second elevator today get the doors open... twice...) Good luck getting to your stuff once the second elevator breaks. On all honesty, Raul (the site manager) did offer to reduce my rate when I talked with him about the routine rate increases. But, the reduction was negligible (I think something like 10%) and the habit of increasing rates every 9 months by double digits would not stop. I hate to be one of those negative types of reviewers. But I feel obligated to warn others who may fall into the same trap as I did. On a good note, they ARE very friendly in the office and the facility is always clean. read more

The manager that used to be there is no longer there, and the new one is a female that seems more driven by money than customer service. Within a year of her arrival she raised the rent on my storage unit and refused to pro rate my last month of rent even with a month's notice. She was nothing like Raul, who used to work here. I went to a new Extra Space location a few miles away and once again found excellent business ethics and customer service @ 3810 S. Four Mile Run Rd, Arlington, VA 22206. Ask for Chris or John. They are amazing, and offer fair online rates. They are right off of the highway near Shirlington. Better to go where you are treated best. read more

I had a great experience with this location and the personnel. At first they didn't have the sort of unit I was looking for - medium sized climate control for leather furniture, oil paintings, electronics - so instead of persuading me to rent from what they had, I was told they would reach out once what exactly I needed became available. Sure enough a week later, Niki called to let me know that one such unit was just vacated and ready for rental, so I hurried on over to check it out and secure it. I have found the staff professional and willing to go the extra mile to help get you into the right unit. The space is clean and well-kept. There is easy access and many carts available making it easy to load and unload. Initially I leased a smaller unit but when I needed more space Jackie was very helpful in making the change and making sure the charges were correct. All staff has been professional and friendly. The driver for the moving company that delivered my things to the unti told me that he regularly brings shipments to this storage facility and he always hears good things about it. It made me feel like I made a good choice and my experience since then has proven that to be true. I would recommend the Dove St. Extra Storage Space. read more

Renters beware! Part of the rental contract states that, with notification, management may increase your monthly storage fee at will. Sure enough, within a couple months of renting a unit I was hit with the first rent hike ($9 a month). Okay...irritating but I let it go. A couple weeks ago I got notification the rent was jumping by 15%. Today I moved everything out. I get that this is a business and if units are in high demand that drives a higher price but it still smacks of greed. I was a "good" renter who never missed or had a late payment and feel that should count for something. Guess not. The good news is the rate hike forced me to get rid of some stuff I probably didn't need and now I get to keep a nice chunk of change each month. In fairness to the facility. it's very clean and secure with friendly staff and my stuff did just fine there. Just beware that if you're on a tight budget the upfront rental fee when you sign the contract won't last long and pretty soon you'll be paying more. read more
