Public Storage is well-known for its practice of attracting new customers with low introductory rates, only to implement significant and persistent rent increases annually. Their strategy relies on the high cost and inconvenience of moving; they know that once the cost begins to squeeze your budget, relocating all of your belongings is a major barrier. The rate of their rental cost increase is alarming. My rent for a 10'x20' unit increased from $337/mo to a projected $722/mo in approximately 2.5 years--a 114% increase! However, I have been able to avoid the most recent rent hike, and it was surprisingly simple. I called their customer service line and calmly explained the situation. I pointed out the rates for an identical unit in my same building is available for less than half of what I was currenlty being charged. I also mentioned the more competitive rates of the nearby storage facilities. I didn't have to get upset or even threaten to leave. The mere act of calling and presenting the facts was enough. The customer service rep was courtious and gave me a six-month reprieve from the rental increase. Storage units are a necessary part of life for many people. I hope this helps if you find yourself in a similar situation. read more

This is a super-shady operation, avoid at all costs. They give you a reasonable intro price then exorbitant increases after that. I pay hundreds of dollars a month yet every time I show up there is never a cart available to move my stuff. Hmmm... maybe they do that on purpose so it will be impossible for me to move my stuff to someplace else? It is impossible to access the bathrooms. And get this--the hours are limited but you can get access to YOUR OWN STUFF at extended hours for an extra fee! Even though there is no additional cost to the facility because if one person is going to be able to access the marginal cost of others doing so is obviously zero. Just bad news all around. Poor service, messed up my account info, not responsive, and increased my payment without notification

YOU TOO MAY NEED TO PEE IN A COOKIE TIN IF YOU USE THIS PLACE! This is not an ethical business, and not just because they have enormous price increases. There are many occasions when NO ONE is in the office and you cannot access the public restrooms because they are LOCKED. It was my misfortune to be a customer for 20 years. I routinely stopped at the office on my way in to the fenced area to request that the toilets be unlocked. Many times I arrived to find the office unattended and a sign on the door with a national phone number. On April 19th 2024 my daughter-in-law and I wanted to be done with them for good. She called ahead and asked that the toilet be opened. I am bladder and bowel incontinent and when I needed the bathroom I found the toilet locked again. I went back to my storage unit and my daughter-in-law suggested that I drive out to a fast food restaurant, but it was too late by then, and I had to grab an old cookie tin and sit on it behind a pile of boxes. I went outside and dumped the urine in the grass along the fence line. We laughed about pouring it in front of the locked office door, but I did not. The next day we were finishing unloading the unit and the manager walked through our area. I raised hell and told him that denying access to the toilet was a violation of my civil rights. His answer was, "Well, they're open now." My daughter in-law- pointed out there was no toilet paper in the one she had used earlier that day. He said he was out of TP. The justification he provided for locking the bathrooms was that it prevented customers from living in a unit and "showering there." AREN'T THE COMBINATIONS AND CAMERAS FOR THAT? Open till 9-30 for customers convenience is a total lie. Both off the Elevator is not working. Can't get a hold of customer support or representatives. There is an elderly lady stuck on the 3rd floor with no access to the stairs. She cannot walk. The relative of that customer finally got a hold of customer support to be told it takes 72 hours for them to FiX the elevator. Please kindly remind me, What am I paying my hard earned dollars for again? Horrific experience. Waste of time and energy. I'll be in first thing in the morning. Get your supervisors to calculate compensation for this wasted time that I can't get back. Just got a hold of customer support to come to a resolution. To everyone looking at a new unit, just know that 1.5 years ago the units were 70% cheaper. A 10'x10' 1st floor unit's street rate was $155. They are now listed at $322. Around January to March they were listed at $55. Rents are skyrocketing at this location. Find alternative arrangements or you will be screwed. Luckily I locked in a yearly rate for a 10x10 unit at $155/mo starting November 2021, extended to March 2023. These fools attempted to jack the rent up to $215 (32% increase) six months later except I was already locked in. This foresight allowed plenty of time for me to plan alternative arrangements. I'm noticing that the "street" value on the same unit is now $322/month. $155 to $322 is a $70% increase within 1.5 years. This is a predatory predatory business model that I came prepared for but witnessing it firsthand is shocking. Seems like it's an extension of covid era profit margin price gouging. Big boomer mentality. Search around for the storage owner forums for the pricing strategies that storage company managers employ. This district manager Thanh is Vietnamese though, so if you're a financially illiterate American (you probably are if you're renting from Public Storage long term without a plan) you may want to think twice. Asian business owners operate on a different level from you and will rake you over a barrel. Fuck 'em, just cleared out my unit. Ran the numbers. At this rate it was cheaper to hire a contractor and build a storage structure in my backyard. At the end of April I walked around and noticed around nine 10x10 units and various smaller units empty on the first floor alone. read more

So I called customer service and the lady talking with me was so rude and didn't want to help me. So even she drop the call without saying nothing. So i had no other option ,but wait. Beware. The rent was increased 37.5% after the first 6 months without notice. Customer service is nearly nonexistent. When first getting access to the facility, the staff told us that the access code not working was "not their problem". Odd given that may be one of the most central pieces of their job. The rent increase came without any notification other than invoice being $102 and 37.5% more expensive than the first 6 months. This was not a special introductory rate either. Attempting to get answers from customer service has resulted in "it's in your contract" type answers. Feels like a bait and switch operation. read more

The facility is easy to find and very clean. The people I encountered were friendly and helpful. Small flatbed carts were available to use for free which was great! I had brought a dolley, but the cart enabled me to take everything in at once. The elevator is big enough to accommodate my kayak which will go to storage later. There are also stairs. The controlled climate is good and I saw they're upgrading the A/C units and doing maintenance. The only problem I had was that the app wouldn't come up on my phone, so I had to get out of the car and key-in manually, but it's probably my phone as I didn't see anyone else having trouble. read more

Our experience with the Public storage company in Seven Corners is disappointing. We made a reservation for a first floor space a week in advance; yet when we came in for our scheduled appointment to provide our information it was not available. The woman who helped us was very pleasant but wasn't familiar with the process and had to ask for help a number of times. There was a question about whether or not we needed insurance (which was not a part of the information originally shared when we signed up) so we signed up under the premise we would cancel once we checked our homeowners policy. The girl stated we would just need to call to cancel the insurance. So I called and the office manager told us we had to come in and sign paperwork and when I expressed that we were frustrated with changing information every step of the process he did not care and just repeated when they closed. The hours are also not very convenient and are limited for when you can access your own property. The only positive about this facility is the proximity to our home. Overall, not a great customer experience so depending on what you are looking for - you may want to look elsewhere. read more

Rented a 5'X5'X8' storage unit from this location today. I picked this location because the price was right and I only had a relatively small amount of stuff to store for at least the next 10 months. The location can be kind of difficult to get to because it's smack in the middle of Seven Corners (anyone that drives through Seven Corners knows what a pain of an intersection that is), but after making several trips over there today, I'm used to it now. The other thing you have to watch out for is that quite a few people use the parking lot to pass through from Sleepy Hollow Rd to Arlington Blvd, so you have to stay alert. The facility is SUPER clean and climate controlled which is a major requirement for me. My unit is in the basement and is really easy to get to from the elevator, but the maze of orange doors can be kind of intimidating at first. The employees have been really friendly. I first went to check the place out yesterday and the lady that was there was really helpful and nice. Same thing today with the two guys that were working there. Answered all my questions, offered useful information, absolutely no complaints at all! read more

This has been the worst business Ive ever worked with. It's been over 24 hours since my move in date & they still won't provide me a working access code. The three customer service employees I've tried to speak with (and I'm always super nice to customer service people) have each said it's "not my problem." Reserved a unit online. When I signed paperwork, I did not have my own lock with me. Saturday manager (Christine) said, no problem, they would keep their lock on and I could swap it out before I moved in. Next day, when I am 200 miles away on a business trip, Lakisha calls and says Christine shouldn't have done that, I need to get my lock on NOW or they are vacating the unit, and my admin fee is non-refundable. Takes no responsibility, for something "someone else messed up". Turns out Christine charged me for a lock without my knowledge, and did not give it to me. Finally agrees to give me 24 hours with much, much argument. If you rent here, be aware that each employee has there own ideas about the rules, and no two agree. Lease agreement disagrees with Lakisha and so this "rule" is hers alone and is not in writing or communicated. Buyer beware and... rent somewhere else. read more

I had requested a unit online and when I came to check in she let me know that I could save money by going with a larger unit because I was only staying for 30 days. She didn't have to tell me or save me money but she did which I appreciate. The facility is clean and they have carts available free of charge. I don't like having to get out of my car to enter the code to get in and out but I'd rather have my belongings safe and secure so it's no big deal. read more

Like others, the $1 rent for the first month promotion is what initially attracted me. I booked everything online about 3 days before my move and Ashlee and Tamanna ere so accommodating the day of and went out of their way to give my parents and I all the information and help we could ask for. They offer great rental insurance and the if you don't already have a lock for your unit I definitely recommend the lock they sell. It's spotlessly clean and they have excellent packing materials for kitchen and any other room--it made the packing process so much easier. Best experience I could have asked for when storing all of my belongings in a relatively unfamiliar place. read more

I would have rated this location 5 stars except the last two times I came all the carts were locked up in the main office.. There was no way to move my heavy items from the bin and truck. I ran into tow other people who were experiencing the same frustration. When I signed up for storage I was informed I would have access after hours snd the carts would be available. Staff both checking in (don't remember names) and checking out (Eric and Smokey) were professional, friendly, and efficient. I was very impressed with the staff. The facility was clean and there were typically juuuust enough (or allllmost enough, depending on the day) dollies/carts for renters to schlep stuff. I had 2 complaints that had little to do with the business but impacted our use of the facility: 1) as noted by another reviewer, the external parking lot is a cut-through with a lot of traffic, thus it has high-impact speed bumps that SUCK when you have a vehicle full of breakables going to/from storage--just have to go VERY slowly over them and you're fine, and 2) Users ignore the no parking zone and just pull their vehicles right up to the door, which makes unloading for all others more tedious and annoying. read more

I first went to the Columbia Pike one where I spoke to James he was very helpful and was able to reserve us a unit at the other facility because the size we needed wasn't available. The next morning I showed up right at 9:30 and Shanta was there ready to help. She was friendly, kind and again so helpful in setting everything up. TOO EXPENSIVE, NO REGARD FOR LONG-TERM CUSTOMERS - Location is nice, but rent increases are too high and too frequent! I just received an 11% increase in rent and I have rented at this location since 2007. I am now paying $325. per month for a 10x15 space. NEW customers are paying $189-223. per month for the same unit. Seems very unfair, doesn't it?! It's as if they don't respect their long-term customers... Hey newbies, enjoy the low rent while you get it, because you will get gauged from here on out by Public Storage. They do not care about their long-term customers! Oh, and don't ever be late with a payment because that will cost you more than 20% fee, yep, for me that would be $67. :-( read more

Roaches! Public Storage property manager won't do anything because he "saw nothing". I killed 5-6 roaches yesterday while I was at the property. My unit is located on the top floor; I picked it hoping I won't have any bug issues. Most of the roaches were in the hallway but found one on top of my boxes. I called the property manager today (Sunday, Feb 14) and notified him of the problem. Unfortunately, he kept asking me "what's the problem". At first I thought maybe the problem was lost in translation but I eventually realized that wasn't the case. Finally, after 5 minutes he said he will take a look. I asked him to give me a call back with an update, which he did, but his response was "I saw nothing" and continued asking me "what's the problem?" and then repeating "there's no problem". I directly asked him "so you won't do anything unless you verify the roaches yourself, is that right?" and he said "yes, there's no problem". I was already planning on moving to another unit w/in the same property but now I will look for other options. Not sure if other Public Storage properties are like this as well, but I do know from speaking with other PS property managers, their Regional Manager directly controls how each property manager conducts business. I fear it might be a regional issue. Just FYI. Unfortunate because they were very friendly in the past. read more

My husband and I were trying to sell our condo. In order to make the condo appear larger than what it is, we had to remove a couple of things, hence needing a storage unit. In a year, we sold the condo, moved into short term apt and found a house. The day we closed on the house, I did not want to pay for a new month of storage, so right after the closing I had friends meet me at the storage unit to unload our unit.. We finished at 5:30pm, a 1/2 hr before closing (Yes, I was one of those people) I had the pleasure of working with Ashlee She was friendly and helpful in closing my account. I would definitely use Public Storage again!! 2 Downsides on this particular location:1) needed to get out of the car to access gate going and coming out of the unit and 2) people use parking lot as a thruway to get to major roads. read more
