They are observing the long lines...counting something...just observing. It would help if THEY just go to the end of a long line and start bagging! See, that would be cool! You see you guys have not scheduled any baggers and the lines are so long they are down the aisles .. and you are just standing there? Of course they may say, well that's not my job. But that's the mentality that keeps things moving slow. It would be so nice if people just did what it takes to keep things moving. Either hire enough people OR get in there and start bagging! I remember back in the days there was a bagger at the end of each checkout aisle. A bagger and a casher! Those days are gone ...and most stores now see if they can get away with overworking the checker! Next thing you know they install self check outs! Rather than hire people and keep a system of people working they just get rid of people and have 1 person observing (like these managers were doing). What a world we are moving towards. But anyways that's what you see. I wish they would just hire bag boys and go back to the good ol days.

I think they need to make a spicy version of the latter or combine it with spicy shrimp. Just my 2 cents! I ended up with about half a pound of each ceviche flavor. After taking my first bite, I said to myself, "I should have gotten 1 to 2 lbs of each instead especially when it was on sale for $9.99 per lb." I won't make that same mistake next time LOL. During my visit, I was very impressed with the different sections of the store starting with La Cocina a La Panadería (Bakery) a La Verdulería (Produce) a La Pescadería (Seafood (ceviches made fresh daily is here)) a La Cremeria (Dairy). They even have the guacamole and aguas frescas made to order stations. How cool is that! Store was bright and clean. Aisles were organized and well stocked. Mexican food and groceries selections are massive. Lots of the foods are freshly made in-house daily. Prices are very reasonable. They have inside and outside dining space for customers to sit and eat. Free parking is plenty. Staff was super friendly and nice. I will definitely be visiting Vallarta again soon!

They all look miserable ALL THE TIME! One time a cashier filled up one of my bags with really heavy groceries then told me to put it in the cart. I tried to pick it up and almost got a hernia ,and so I told him it's too heavy and I can't pick it up, and he just ignored me. He didn't try to put it in the cart himself because even he couldn't (it was so heavy). He didn't have the common sense or decency to even try emptying some of it into another bag . He just stood there, said nothing. (I ended up doing that myself) I tried to cut some slack for these guys, and give them the benefit of the doubt, and I've never once been rude to anyone there (even when I felt I had every right) I still kept quiet. However, the consistency of the horrendous customer service skills is disgraceful and disgusting. Where are the managers? Who is on the hiring committee? Why aren't any of these people getting proper training? Where is quality control? It's sad that standards are so low at this location that you treat your long time loyal customers this bad. Truly a shame. If I was a health inspector, I'd be shutting down your pizza center first, then I'd fire every single cashier there and train proper human beings to work with human beings.

It then dawned on me that this Vons wants it both ways - treat its customers like thieving trash but expect us to pay Beverly Hills prices. They upset me when they removed the handles from the bags but this is the final straw for me. I won't be patronizing Vons until those useless gates are removed. There are too many other equally expensive options now that value their customers.

We ordered a pork katsu curry, karaage, brown sugar matcha latte, and the chocolate crunch matcha frappe. I love how fresh the food was! Our pork katsu had a light crunchy fry to it and the curry flavoring was on point. The rice was also well made which brought the dish together. I absolutely love the karaage here, it wasn't overly greasy and the batter was nice and light! I do wish there was some kewpie mayo on the side to dip it with but the lemon provided acidity to cut the rich flavors of the thigh. I tend to enjoy a stronger matcha and Nana's gives just that! My partner enjoys a sweeter / lighter matcha so he wasn't a huge fan of his brown sugar matcha. I'm so curious to know if they sell the chocolate crunch they put on the matcha because it provides such a great texture piece to the frappe. Parking: If you're lucky, street parking, but if not - We parked at the parking structure south of Raymond between Colorado & Green - first 2 hours is $1.00! It's about a 5 min walk to Nana's. Overall, their food selection is limited but is made fresh and delicious. If you enjoy a stronger matcha, go for it! I'm coming back next time to try their parfaits.

I didn't mind the waiting, but it was stressful waiting in a tight space with their staff coming in and out with huge piles of dishes and you have to be careful if you don't want to be bumped into. This feeling of crowdedness continues to the tables with the spacing between one table to another very tight together. More to this in a bit. The hostess was so sweet, she actually sent us a complimentary Blistered Bread and Ricotta ($14) dish that we both really enjoyed to make up for the wait. The blistered bread was masterfully executed, very thin and went perfectly with the ricotta dip. Once again, I didn't mind the wait at all. That was not the problem with my meal. Anyways... going on... the waiter... the waiter we had was really grumpy. Not sure if it's just his personality or he was having a bad day. For instance, I was ready to get the white wine flight but then he was, very poorly, explaining it to the point where I was talked out of it. Then I was about to get a glass of wine or bubbly... Then once again he basically talks me out of it. Nevermind I'll drink water... I guess you don't need to earn a better tip. In addition to the trouble he gave me while order. When he came to ask me about my experience. I honestly responded that it could be better, due to the table next to us. He basically gaslit me like well it's a big party, what do you expect? Wow this inconsiderate family of kids bumping into my table, making fart sounds on purpose, cursing adults, and loud loud kids and adults... He begrudgingly moved us but basically ignored us for the rest of the night Anyways, as for the food... I thought the food would be pretty fantastic since the restaurant was so busy. It had all of the signs of a successful restaurant. My boyfriend and I shared the following: Squash Blossoms ($16) - I love squash blossoms. My boyfriend knew I wouldn't be able to resist ordering it. Their preparation of this delicate ingredient was heavy for my liking. The batter on it was thick and oily. The toasted hazelnuts were unnecessary. House Italian Sausage ($26) - They have one of those pizza ovens. The crust was thin and crispy. It was well prepared. However the issue we had with this was the flavor, or rather lacking flavor. The taste of the Italian sausage was overwhelmed by the red onion agrodolce. We both ate a slice and took the rest home. Even as leftovers we weren't excited to eat it. Charred Scallop Risotto ($38) - What really sold me was the baja uni batter that I did not taste much of in this dish. This was a poor execution of a risotto. The texture was off, and the flavor was overwhelmed by whatever cheese they used in this dish. The charred scallop was one single scallop cut in half and overly charred and rubbery in taste. The blue shrimp were shriveled too. We made sure to eat the proteins to prevent waste but you know it's bad when my boyfriend didn't even want to togo this dish. He normally eats anything to prevent waste. Branzino alla Griglia ($38) - Whole grilled branzino topped with eggplant, salsa verde and herb salad. This was the least bad item that we paid for... Although there was a lot of bones to be cautious of. I understand the risk of stumbling on a few bones when ordering a whole fish but this was more than I would have liked. I also didn't like some of the flavors coating the fish. Although from a grilled perspective it was crispy and perfectly cooked. This is a popular business with plenty of patrons to keep them busy. Whatever they like... it isn't what I look for in a business I frequent. I know they don't need my business and I will gladly stay away and save myself all of the trouble. This was way too stressful and there weren't any dishes I need to have again. My experience was so awful I'm being very generous with this 3 star, which is "average".

Erewhon in Pasadena, located at Shops on Lake Ave, is connected to the Macy's parking lot with its entrance tucked to the side. This upscale grocery store is known for its high prices, with some items being shockingly expensive--$60 for a small jar of vanilla, $30 for a loaf of bread, and $7 for a tiny can of coffee. Interestingly, beer and wine prices were more reasonable compared to other grocery items. Despite the steep costs, Erewhon carries a full range of products, from hand soap and skincare to fresh produce, cakes, cheese, flour, and broth--essentially everything a standard grocery store offers but with a luxury touch. It clearly caters to a wealthier clientele. The store also features a to-go food and drink section, with the famous Hailey Bieber smoothie priced at $20. While that wasn't my main draw, I was most impressed by the extensive water selection. Out of curiosity, I picked up a few different brands for a taste test. Though not cheap, they were still within an affordable range. Every shelf was meticulously arranged, and the produce section was displayed like a work of art. The entire store was spotless and beautifully designed. The service was also exceptional--our cashier, Josh, had a great sense of humor and was incredibly friendly, making the checkout experience enjoyable. Would I do my regular grocery shopping here? Erewhon store #10 finally opened today in Pasadena. Erewhon has a very strong following / customer base (as evidenced by the line that stretched WAY down on South Lake for the grand opening today). I am so glad that one is finally open in Pasadena - up until today, the location in Pacific Palisades was my Sunday ritual after a run along the beach in Santa Monica. Erewhon is what Whole Foods used to be (before the acquisition), even better. You will find lots of unique products / brands that you won't find in other grocery stores (yes, there is some overlap, but my guess is only 20-25% - everything else here is special). Most of their private label items are sold in returnable mason jars which I think is a great idea - soups, sauces, nuts, dried fruits, and organic juices all sold in glass, not plastic. They have really great prepared foods - breakfast options are amazing. Add in the coffee / smoothie bar, and this place will be a great place to grab breakfast. Parking is behind the store and is shared with the other retailers on South Lake. I do worry that parking may become an issue (esp. ground level). In full disclosure, this place is expensive - you can easily spend $100 on 1 bag of groceries (but the quality of what you bought will be much higher than anywhere else). read more

When I discovered that Erewhon was opening a branch on South Lake Ave, I couldn't contain my excitement. I was eagerly anticipating Erewhon's arrival to revitalize the somewhat sleepy South Lake Ave and inject some vibrancy into the neighborhood. The fact that it's just a 3-minute walk from my place is both a blessing and a cruise, especially considering my love for their expensive smoothies. As a Erewhon member, I wasted no time and visited the store on its second day of opening to experience what this new location had to offer. I received a complimentary monthly smoothie, a fantastic perk for Erewhon members. Admittedly, it did take a bit longer than expected, over 30 minutes, to get my smoothie, but I understand that it's only just opened, and the staff are likely still ironing out the kinks in their order system. Erewhon is small chain of high-end grocery stores, with Pasadena being #10. Store is clean, bright, everything perfectly organized (check out the produce section - every piece of fruit, vegetable is perfect and perfectly organized). They have a large selection of prepared foods - massive selection for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I enjoy their breakfast burritos and their pizza is good too. They have an amazing selection of fresh, mostly organic, juices as well. Yes, this place does have premium pricing, but you are getting quality products and a lot of their stuff they clearly have curated / won't find in other grocery stores. One tip - pay at the main front register vs. cafe point of sale checkout (1 near the Pizza display, another by the coffee station). The two cafe stations have gratuity prompts built into the credit card processing machines which I find irritating. read more

Ah, as more people visit, the average review score goes down. I'll save you time reading those bad 1-2 star reviews: they complain that Erewhon is outrageously expensive - this is the main complaint. If you can't afford to shop here, then don't - its as simple as that! Erewhon is an experience, not just a place to get groceries. They have unique smoothies (yes, those are $15+), great selection of fresh organic juices & wellness shots, the prepared food options here are stellar (and the vast majority of those are very healthy). I love this place and will gladly give them my business. I enjoy the shopping experience, the helpful staff, and the quality of what they sell. read more

I think I just experienced a micro aggression. I am a Hispanic woman, that cashier was a white man. I've been a frequent customer and user of the app. My check out was delayed because the cashier was contemplating allowing me to use my app without ID. Like most people our lives are on our phone and I rarely carry a full wallet knowing I will Use Apple Pay. The employee watched me use Face ID to unlock my phone but still was asking me for valid identification to use the app. I have never been asked to identify myself to purchase a salad before or after this interaction. read more

I go to Erewhon every week and absolutely love it so much! I typically visit culver city location a lot but also like to check out the other locations. However I absolutely hate going to the Pasadena location. Simply because of their front end manager Michelle. One of the rudest people i've ever met in my entire life. and the few times i've gone, seems like she's constantly yelling at her employees. The pizza place behind this supermarket is disgusting. When I went to pick up my order, it wasn't even ready. After I finally got my food, the staff marked it as a late pickup, even though it was their fault for not having it ready. They also unfairly gave the delivery driver a bad rating. It's really frustrating. They shouldn't even be on delivery platforms if they're going to give out unfair ratings like this. read more

So I've been to this place in total about 15-20 times and yet to be impressed by the quality of the food. I've tried there packaged food, fresh deli, baked goods, double and steaks. They were all basic overpriced items that made me regret buying them. I will say the store is very well designed and the customer service is pretty on point. read more

I got some berries, fresh and toasted coconut and date syrup drizzled on top. It is such a satisfying snack with a bit of protein and other healthy ingredients that I did not feel guilty about eating I don't know if it was the bread I chose, but the size was a little smaller than what I remember. However, it hit the spot until my next meal. The shop is extremely clean and Service was very pleasant and friendly.
