For those that are not familiar with Super King Market, this is a market that was founded by Peter and Mary Fermanian, with the first store in Anaheim (which has since remolded and is significantly bigger than the first one). The name "King" is a homage to honor their father, who was known to be the king of fruit. Super King Market is best known for their produce, excellent quality and very affordable prices. The market itself is very international in which you can find Middle Eastern items, Hispanic items and also Asian grocery items as well. I really love Super King and so does my husband. After my husband had discovered the location in Claremont (I actually had shopped there before he did, many years ago), he just has this desire to visit the other locations. We have already visited the one in Glendale, which is my least favorite of the 3 that we have gone to so far. This location is cleaner and does seem to be bigger (but I prefer the set up and layout of the location in Claremont. The parking is way better than the other 2 locations that we have visited). Anyways, we came by this store on a Saturday and it was definitely busy. But not so busy that it felt crowded (but can't say that will be the same for you if you come on a weekend). The first selection I love to visit is their produce section. There is such a vast variety of different, good quality, vegetables and fruits. And what makes this section even better is the fact that the produce is so cheaply priced. A market like this really encourages you to choose healthier choices of fruits and vegetables (and also whole grains. The dried grains, rice + beans section is also very cheap, as compared to the typical American market like Von's, Ralph's, etc). I also love all the different types of breads that you can find on the other side of the store. The prices for whole wheat pita bread is very cheap too (and also the regular pita bread for those who don't appreciate whole grain foods and don't get enough fiber in their diet). Be aware that a lot of their fresh breads have a short shelf life so make sure you finish your bread before they go bad and have mold :( Customer service at the register was just whatever, but I don't come to this market expecting it to be stellar, so that doesn't bother me. The prices are great here, the selection of food items (in many different departments, not just the produce) is excellent and would come back to this location more often if I lived in the area. read more

Well they have super long lines and no baggers. So the cashier has to bag and it can take so much extra time. Unless you the customer bags your own stuff. But the elderly can't do that so it's why the lines are so long. Now here is the kicker. At the end of the checking line is a manager ...sometimes 2. A man and a woman. They are observing the long lines...counting something...just observing. It would help if THEY just go to the end of a long line and start bagging! See, that would be cool! You see you guys have not scheduled any baggers and the lines are so long they are down the aisles .. and you are just standing there? Of course they may say, well that's not my job. But that's the mentality that keeps things moving slow. It would be so nice if people just did what it takes to keep things moving. Either hire enough people OR get in there and start bagging! I remember back in the days there was a bagger at the end of each checkout aisle. A bagger and a casher! Those days are gone ...and most stores now see if they can get away with overworking the checker! Next thing you know they install self check outs! Rather than hire people and keep a system of people working they just get rid of people and have 1 person observing (like these managers were doing). What a world we are moving towards. But anyways that's what you see. I wish they would just hire bag boys and go back to the good ol days. read more

This review is solely for the assistant manager. A few weeks ago he accused me of stealing. Since then my heart would race when I would see him becuse man that's really nerve wracking especially since I'm a loyal and honest customer. Yesterday I decided to take my power back and went to him to let him know the next time he accuses me of stealing make sure he sees everything I do. That's right the day he accused me he had literally walked into the store to start his shift. Stated the way I was walking with my son and husband looked suspicious . I've come to this market a few times and their stores always have fresh produce and good selection of international items. I'm not a regular here but if there's something niche i need then i come here. They have some european, hispanic, middle eastern and asian items which is great. Their produce and meat always looks fresh, clean, and neatly organized. Items are priced normally so nothing was abnormally expensive. This time i ordered from the deli section and you just grab a number and tell them what you want. I was intimidated since they looked quite busy but the guy helping me was nice. Overall, i would recommend this market. I would always find something interesting/new to try. read more

I'm a big fan of Super King markets, theyre a grocer with a more Middle eastern / Armenian bent. The layout here is clean and spacious and they some of the best prices on produce. Its always neat wandering their aisles because they have many products that are new to me. They have a great deli, produce and a very nice separate liquor store (with some surprising finds). Theyre meat section i'm not that fond of, i would go to another market for meat. Service is a good, helpful workers and fast service. The parking lot kinda sucks though. read more

This place is way overpriced. Honestly, it's not even a real Eastern, Mediterranean or European - most of the products are Mexican. The prices are insane, I can get the exact same stuff at other markets for half or even a third of what they charge here. On top of that, I was shocked to see shelves full of Russian products - super low-quality stuff from a country that's literally bombing Ukrainian cities, schools, hospitals, and killing civilians every single day. SK has become one of my favorite ethnic (ie., default - I usually only cook ethnic dishes anyway) markets. I'm so glad it survived the Eaton fire, as it's definitely the best market in Altadena. Prices for meat, liquor, and produce are simply unbeatable. And SK carries more specialty items that I purchase all the time all in one place (like foods for cooking Mexican dishes, pelmeni, and middle eastern foods). Not a huge selection of Asian foods compared to their other categories, but we have plenty of Asian markets around for that. Sometimes you have to wait for parking as SK is always fairly busy, but you will always eventually find parking. Water fill outside. Clean inside. Great staple neighborhood market! read more

I had the most excellent experience at super King today, November 25, 2025.. I am a frequent shopper. Today in particular I was blown away. Specifically, Gary in the butcher department, was extraordinary. His colorful personality and friendly disposition were a bonus on an especially hectic day right before the Thanksgiving holiday. But more importantly, he was happy and offered to find me the most perfect pieces of steaks. He went out of his way to find the right cuts in the case, out in the prepackaged area, and when he couldn't find it, he went to the back and arranged for the two most perfect cuts of choice steak for my family. That experience alone was enough to make me provide feedback about this particular location. I was also blown away by what happened after. Not surprisingly, I over bought groceries and was not able to bring my groceries to my car which was parked across the street on top of a parking structure. I asked the young parking attendant named Jaylen, if he could help me by watching my cart with the bags of groceries while I ran to get my car. He smiled at me and said "I will help you". Another customer saw this special young man and offered to help Jaylen watch my groceries because he knew the employee was in charge of collecting shopping carts in the parking lot. When I came back, Jaylen was close to my grocery cart and the other customer was waiting near my groceries, as well. Jaylen assured me everything was fine. It was clear to me that Jaylen is a special person and for that, in particular, I appreciate Super King for their kindness to this unique neurodivergent community. I was in store shopping this morning when I heard someone was yelling and I went to see what's going on and I saw the manager that just walked in and started yelling very loud and rude to an employee who was just doing his job. This was front of everyone to see. That was very disrespectful and unprofessional. It made me never want to return to a store like this again because I do not support treatment like that. My friend recommended this place to me for great prices and good products! It met my expectations when I arrived. Plenty of parking (beware that there is a one-way entrance and one-way exit, I missed the one way and had to u-turn). It's a big market and lots of selection! I especially like how affordable the nuts and rice crackers and almonds are! Their chili and lemon peanuts are so delish!! I picked a few peaches so I am hoping they are sweet. 99cent a pound. Went to Super King for the first time since Covid. Was astounded how reasonable the fresh produce prices were and how well stocked everything was. I've been coming to the Altadena location for many many years now, and all this time never thought about letting the management know about their meat department horrible horrible smell . The minute you walk close to that area it's to a point I make sure I walk by it very fast not to faint. Everything looks clean but the smell is enough not to come here anymore. Also I am pretty sure they have been told lately about their bags. We brought it to the cashiers attention for the second time now and been told everyone is complaining and management is not doing anything about it. The new bags are smelling worst than the meat department. Hope this will help the owner to make some changes and keep customers like us coming back to keep our business. My husband bought ham from deli section today , as soon as I opened the shopping bag , I asked what is this smell . The ham smelled terrible, I returned it , and talked to store manager assistant, he told that I can receive my refund . The assistant wasn't surprised, it seems they know what are they selling . It was happened to us before but that time we thought maybe a mistake happened and we didn't complain. They asked for original card , but it wasn't with me , since it is my husband's card . They didn't refund , the money is not main point , how they approached to customer and they knew that they sold old and perished deli. I wonder if the deli section worker didn't notice the smell !!! It appears there are several changes that have taken place in the last year, such as, new staff. The customer service has improved, especially the cashiers. This place used to have terrible customer service. Glad the service has improved. The service deli counter workers are the best. The store itself gets packed and stuffy with the lines that are be a bit much if you come here at night. The store is also slowly adding select organic items, hopefully they can start carrying more organic as they progress in the future. read more

This place, and Los Angeles, is my living proof that we can work it out, no matter what. Working class families are fighting for parking spaces with renowned city chefs. Asian, Spanish, European, Middle Eastern and Arican mothers are exchanging oxtail recipes. Grab a paper number from the deli, or the butcher line, but be prepared to wait for great deals, like forty nine cents per pound chicken! Super King market added service to delivery companies, including instacart so we can pull up and let the amazing people who work here load up our minivans with fresh produce. The best melons in the city. Root vegetables, (the longest lasting ones) organic milk, hard cheeses, smoked meats and fish, or the ingredients to make anything from scratch, and bottle it up in your pantry. I love to cook, I love to trade recipes and smiles. (I miss the smiles part) Wearing a mask, whenever I leave, is mandatory, and choosing delivery services, for me and my high risk friends, and anyone who cares about us, is the best choice. Make sure to double check your deli meats in the bag they give you!! One too many times now I get home and discover that all that I purchased isn't there! I don't live right around the corner so it's not convenient for me to go back and make a stink, but it's happened a couple times now in the last year and now I routinely check to make sure it's all there before I leave. This has also happened to me at Sprouts, Trader Joes and anywhere that I'm buying large quantities in one trip. read more

I went to there liquor department and picked up an item that had a sign right in front of it that said $139.99 and took without paying attention that they had charged me $199.00 which was the item right next to it . I went back and asked them to take it back since I had misunderstood , actually felt misled and they said they were the same items only with different packaging . They said NO . They would not take it back . The same item at the MISSION liquor is advertised for $159.99 that's $40 less . I will never ever shop at this place . read more

My go to Super King is the one on San Fernando Rd. I pop into this one when I'm in the area, I love the one in my neighborhood, but this one is great too. One thing that is superior is the meat department. This meat department is pristine. No smell at all and I have a nose like a bloodhound. Digression/Comparison Alert: The meat Dept. on San Fernando Rd just smells like a slaughter house. It hits you just as you past the deli and eggs. I rush through it as fast as possible, (and I'm a carnivore). Trying to bypass the aroma early in the day is a futile effort. it is masked under the strong scent of Fabuloso cleaner, however, it does add to the over all ambiance and character of the neighborhood. Back on track, I was AMAZED at how it wasn't crowded at 11am on a Thursday. I affectionately call this market chain Super Crowded. But there has been a silver lining to people staying home, it was truly easy to get a cart through the aisles and there was no wait in line. The selection on teas, pastries, canned meats and jars of veggies peppers for your Prepper Pantry are exotic. Take a trip down the aisle with jams, there's always a variety or two that are sold out. Like someone is on something I'm not and I'm curious about what I missed that is so good. Then I catch myself ogling great label designs in the canned section. If you are looking for good prices, Look no further... Super King is Here lol I've heard of this market time after time but never took the time to actually make the drive out to this area, finally on a Sunday evening I decided to hop in my car and do some grocery shopping here for my weekly meal prep. This grocery store is a one stop shopping, they carry everything you need at very inexpensive prices and lots of stuff in good quantity. I was shocked in how much I purchased and for such little price I payed compared to any other places I have been too. So the location is not located in the nicest neighborhood and parking is a real pain, it does have a parking lot but is shared in a plaza with a couple of other stores and it was jammed packed/bumper to bumper, from what I heard from shoppers that it is always like that out there. Inside the store was no different, there were tons of customers shopping and shopping carts everywhere which made it a bit tough to do shopping in peace. I did encounter a couple of staff members because I had questions on where to locate some items and let me tell you the staff is not very friendly or helpful for that matter. I walked the full store about twice before I locating pretty much anything and everything I was looking for lol Again the prices are great, you can't beat what you get for he amount you pay. The prices at Super King are pretty unbeatable compared to many other grocery stores. Quality is also pretty good as well! This location gets very busy so you need to be picky about when you come. I came on a Sunday evening and it wasn't busy at all. They have a wide variety of produce, meats, and ethnic food items. I'm a new customer, to be crystal clear I left Von's Pasadena to shop at a better store, Super King. The employees at Super King are much nicer, much more helpful. I like the produce at Super King, some of my favorites is when they have Sweet Lemons - I eat 2-3 at a time. Tonight we had Salmon Steaks, butchered cross-wise. This was the best tasting fish I've had in years. The butcher was so nice to us when he cut the fish for us. There is a lady that weighs the bags of nuts, coffee, etc. She is always nice to us, always says hello even when she is swamped with work. One time they had coffee cans on sale, but were out of our flavor on the shelves. A very nice man who stocks the shelves found us a boatload of our flavor of coffee. The prices at Super King are substantially lower than Von's Pasadena. There is one Lady in Von's I miss, in Deli - but everyone at Super King has really been good to us. The corn we bought last trip was just picked. At Super King, the sale prices are on their ad and on the shelf - you just get the deal automatically at the register. Our old store brainwashed us, rotate your phone 50º and do the doesy dooh, and you're always going to hit the parking lot with your receipt and go damn, the old store shortchanged us 8-12 dollars, almost every time. I'm not exaggerating, clip the ad, scan the QR, roate left 5 times, bzzz bzz bzz we still did not give you a discount. Since shopping at Super King, there just is so much less stress and drama. read more

I went on 3/25/19 and bought brats that were dated 3/29/19 (expiration). At home I realized they had alot of mold on them. I returned to the store and asked a manager how that could happen. He had no answer. I went and looked and saw other meat that had even more mold on it despite not being expired (expiration date marked on package). read more
