Always love their bento box/bowl, fresh bbq meat and sometimes deep fried stuff, as a meat lover, I got this bbq duck and bbq pork bowl. Flavors are on point, very generous of portion, definitely a good satisfaction!! The cashier is very thoughtful and gave me the chopsticks!! This is an older 99 Ranch that hasn't been renovated by the Tawa overlords (at least for now). It's decently big and because it services the area of Alhambra, it was quite busy the Saturday afternoon that I went. I actually walked here after parking at my usual spot when I'm in the area to go to Gallery Nucleus or attend the events around. Very busy, and parking looked a bit chaotic, but as for a shopping experience it was alright. Doesn't stand out as much as the other 99 Ranch that I've been to, aside from the boba place at the entrance. It was Hechalou (was excited to try since now I don't have to go to Long Beach, but overall not that great) when I went, but now it's obviously something else. We often shop at 99 Ranch Market. I go to various locations, but this one in Alhambra is the closest to us. Employees here are very nice and helpful. I love the vegetables and seafood section- abundant and fresh. My usual Chinese Broccoli (Gailan), Thai Basil, Bean Sprouts, Chrysanthemum greens (Tong-ho) are a weekly staple. We also love picking up Live- Dungeness crabs, fishes, shellfish. 99 Ranch also carries Thai brand meatballs that some Asian markets don't carry Unfortunately, am not digging meat department here. It is lacking compared to other 99 Ranch. The butcher station is limited and by evening after 8pm there is no butcher service available. Grab and go meat section is the only option and it's just ok. I'd rather hit up Ralph's by my house. Upon exiting the store,there a tiny bakery section on the side and some express eateries in front of the checkout stands. This is my go-to Asian supermarket. Well-stocked, spacious, and the checkers are friendly. But on a recent visit on Feb. 8, I saw this package of beef in their meat section, with some part of the label obscured with an orange "Special" sticker. Out of curiosity, I peeled back the sticker, and discovered that the more recently applied price sticker showed not only a lower price, but also a different weight AND A SELL BY DATE TWO MONTHS IN THE FUTURE. I wouldn't buy a steak that's supposedly fresh for more than two months. But more importantly, I no longer trust any of the labeling on their meat products, especially not the ones on "special." read more

Sesame oil is much cheaper there than at 'regular' grocery stores. But there are often other things that appeal - last time I got a pickled carrot and radish dish that I get on Banh mi sandwiches. There are crunchy snack treats and random other things that I may not even know what they are but are fun to try. The prices are great by comparison for all the asian ingredients. The fruits and vegetables are pristine. The store is clean. My only issue is that as an ignorant white girl, I can't read many of the packages so if I want a specific asian ingredient, I have to know what the package looks like or know exactly what the ingredients are (like for rice vs glass noodles). read more

Dungeness crab season gets everyone in the area looking for good deals on crab. I stopped at 99 Ranch to see what they had. They were asking $9.99 per pound for the biggest crabs and 8.99 for the smaller. (They had some dead crabs but we won't go there). I asked for the biggest crabs, John picked one out and weighed it. It was very lively. At 99 they steam cook it for free so I opted for that. I was told I needed to pay for the crab and then they would cook it. Cooking takes about 15 minutes. At home I shelled out the crab. The body meat looked better than the crab bodies I see at Costco. Obviously my crab was fresher. I don,t care for tomalley so that wasn't an issue. My $27 crab yielded 13.7 ounces of crabmeat. I know,in Southern California you can't get any fresher than this. It was good but didn't rock my world. My family used to go crabbing in Oregon and that fresh crab is hard to beat. read more

10/12/24 Needed a few items from this store, the main reason we dropped by this particular location is because they have Tony's bbq/bibingkinitan inside of the store that makes the better tasting bibingkinitan. Picked up a mini tiger pumpkin, red onion, bell peppers & Botan nice (medium grain). No muss no fuss. The cashier was just flat affect, robotic, almost expressionless, at least she was quick to ring me up, no assistance with bagging groceries. On a Saturday morning about 11:30 am. But I noticed the past few months the sushi quality started to go down and then I saw that the original owners changed! The label didn't say 99 ranch before and now it does! WTF??? The labels and the sushi looked so similar to what the previous owner of this sushi place did that I didn't notice at first. The sushi looks so unappetizing compared to before, and the quality of the raw salmon has gone way down. The 5 stars us given to the Deli for the roast duck I got 1/4/25. I got a whole duck. It was quite meaty, tender and tasty. The deli people did not put the sauce over the duck meat so it was not drenched in grease. I used air fryer to reheat duck pieces and the skin came out crispy. The duck had a good amount of skin, good breast slices and best of all a lot of tummy meat. It does not taste 臘鸭 like the one I had before. Great improvement. read more

Racist customer service staff speaking only Cantonese to everyone. I actually learned how to say "I don't understand Cantonese" in Cantonese since it happens so often. After saying it, they still speak a bunch of Cantonese instead of getting a different clerk that speaks other languages. Speaking English or Mandarin get you ignored. My online pick up order said pick up ready, but they couldn't find my order so the Cantonese speaking clerk just walked away to help others instead of telling me I should wait or come back later. I stood there like an idiot and left. I came back later and a different staff said I went too early at the first pickup attempt, good thing I took a screenshot of "order ready for pickup" page with timestamp to show her. So it seemed there was glitches on the app regarding pickup time. Many times they gave fruit and vegetables that are rotten. When I ask them right there at pick up, they just said you can ask for refund in app. But mAny times claim with rotten food pictures were ignored and no refund. I am disappointed that the store has stopped carrying the "Friedas Organic Stokes Purple Sweet Potatoes" in 3 lbs bag. In terms of texture and taste, Stokes' is much better than the "Conah Microwaveable Purple Sweet Potato" and the "California purple yam" that the store is carrying now. Stokes' price is also better. The small size of Stokes sweet potatoes that the store carried before was good for steaming and I miss it. read more

I never post a review for grocery stores because the interactions are so brief. But today this cashier raised her voice at my mom and that was the last straw. We asked for additional plastic bag because raw yam can causes skin rash and itchiness so we want to bag it separately. The cashier raised her voice at us and questioned us why we are bagging one grocery item in one bag. I had to explain to her that we know how to bag groceries, and the other two bags are completely full. We asked for one extra bag so we separate the yam that can potentially cause skin issues. I feel like I am answer questions to authority for a plastic bag I am going to purchase. On top of that, we were doing bagging ourselves, and she is "approving" them? I didn't get the name but jeez, since when do we need to find "nice cashier" to get groceries? I believe this is a West Coast Asian Super market chain. We do not have this in the East Coast. While I appreciate the space as it seems like everywhere in LA has a lot of space, I do wish they carried more items. The prices are a bit high but not overly so. I can't believe I've never been here before. This ranch market is actually super clean and organized! They've got tons of delicious Asian snacks including a huge selection of Hawaiian drinks that I missed from the islands. If you like instant noodles, this is the spot for you. They have a dedicated aisle of instant noodles for your heart's desire. THIS is the location to go to- they have the only store bought sushi worth every penny (and more). The sushi offerings are surprisingly restaurant quality! This is not only a feat, but the sushi is packed with fresh ingredients and flavor. Would be selfish to not share the secrets of their highest quality shell fish. Am highlighting this Ranch 99 because have yet to visit another that does provide such a great choice. Their other products are amazing as well which have done my best to document in the pictures that follow. Their prices are amazingly fair considering how fairly sourced and produced Ranch 99's selections are. Between the Moon Cakes, Sake, beautiful Real plants, fresh baked goods (omg you must), fresh crab and fish etc-- there's enough to make anyone's day! Just a quick note to add that the store is quite clean and looked after. As one is aware, with fresh seafood comes a bit of a stench, but is by no means overwhelming nor takes away from my experiences. Additionally, their employees are kind! Sometimes flustered with busy days, but always kind. Fluent in Chinese and knows enough English to communicate with me :) Unsure on the Spanish but am sure they'd figure it out. And just in case you decide you want to eat before or after you shop, (lord knows how I get when shopping hungry.... *buys all the things*) there are multiple mini restaurant counters to choose from good eats as well. We live relatively close by so it does serve our needs when it comes to Asian cooking (most of the time!) We cook a lot of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes at home and will adjust accordingly when it comes to what's available here at this location. What we Like: - produce section is always clean, orderly, and a good selection of mushrooms, greens, and your typical vegetables - hot food/sushi section: always good stuff! Check it out - they have a lot of cooking tools that you may want to purchase if you're not keen on going downtown such as hot plates, outdoor/indoor grills. etc - the inari skins are always sold out haha but they have more fun selections! What we don't like: - If you're trying to cook other asian dishes that require specific/preferred ingredients such as indonesian, Thai, some korean; you may not find specifically what you need and may have to substitute with something that they sell here or know where to shop (i did not see Dried Thai Chili Pepper and Soybean Paste at this location) - Some cons for the produce section: Sometimes we've come on days where perhaps the produce is wilting, I'm sure this is due to a number of reasons but it has only happened once or twice; not enough to get crazy like some people; we're literally within a 3 mile radius of several other groceries but I understand that can be inconvenient for some. Note about the person who is stationed outside for donations: they're always there; just walk on by if you're not interested. read more

There are some good deals here and there, but I noticed that some things are a little cheaper than the Monterey Park store. They also have a boba express, bakery, and a few other food spots inside. Outside the market in the same plaza are Jollibee, Tastea, smoke shop, etc. Plenty of parking even when I'm leaving at 9:30 am, which is a plus. read more

Read till the end for my gooey encounter in the veggie aisle ?? This is my go to place for groceries, and many things, such as the bags of onions, are cheaper here than in American supermarkets. Also love all the Asian snacks and beverages! I also want to shout out customer service. As I was checking out, I asked the cashier if they carried dried bonito flakes (I wanted to make okonomiyaki!). The cashier called someone over and I repeated my question. Then, no joke, the guy took off RUNNING through the store and came back in like two minutes with 5 types of bonito flakes clutched in his hands. There had to be some witchcraft involved, since a. I scoured each aisle and didn't find hide nor hair of any bonito flakes, and b. So fast!!! I chose one, and he promptly disappeared to put the rest back. I took one star off for the awful cake I bought. The cake and the whipped frosting were fine. Both were light and airy in that Asian cake way, and not too sweet!!! However, someone thought it fit to jam tons of canned fruit into the whipped cream between each cake layer. Seriously, I couldn't go one bite without hitting some awful canned fruit. It ruined the whole cake for me, and I definitely won't be buying it again. Also I found a live snail in the chives, which was wild. In conclusion, A+ for the customer service, F for the cake, and a C for the snail (at least it proves those chives are fresh and minimally processed ) read more

Review specific to the deli: Picked up Char Siu (BBQ pork), chicken, and Siu Aap (roast duck) for Lunar New Year. Usually, my family goes to Sam Woo, but the lines are always so long. We didn't want to wait, so we decided to check out 99 Ranch this year. I'm impressed! There was no line, and the server was so friendly. We didn't want to cross-contaminate, so we asked them to clean the chopping board after each item, and he did not hesitate. He took his time to clean the board thoroughly. They packaged everything nicely into togo boxes. All three were great and comparable to Sam Woo. I would definitely come back here for BBQ. There is no Siu Yuk (crispy pork) for LNY, though. read more
