This market never disappoints when it comes to their hot chili salsa collection. I've been to many big supermarkets and checked out their chili varieties but they don't come close to the better quality chili bottles they carry here. They also sell Lottery tickets and fresh breads. read more

Definitely my supermarket stop when I'm not feeling like going to a Ralphs or Costco type market and just needing to pick up a few items... 3 stars!!! Pretty good selection of everything that you might need at this smaller scale Latino-oriented market, but the standout departments have to be the produce and meat sections. There's always a good variety of produce and meat items available. Just make sure to check for the freshness of the fruits and veggies; some of the not so popular items could be fresher. Also, a trip to Alhambra Market cannot be complete without picking up salsa. One of the best places to get good salsa in Alhambra. Also, during my last trip, I was so happy to notice that they now carry Thrifty's Ice Cream. Although the selection is not as varied as you'd find at Rite Aid, I'm so glad I can get the Thrifty ice cream of my childhood at Alhambra Market. The staff at Alhambra market has always been friendly and welcoming, especially the cashiers. Out of the many many shopping trips, I've never seen Alhambra Market overwhelmingly busy so I'm usually out in less than 15 to 20 minutes top. I had been thinking of shopping at Alhambra Market more often to support them because I hate that many independent and small businesses are closing. I was on the way to meet a client last Thursday and noticed some work being done in front of the market...I pull in and the parking lot has freshly painted lines for individual parking spaces. There are men on a ladder to my right as I approach the entrance installing light fixtures and what seems to be a security camera... interesting. I walk in an there's a young, tall black man wearing glasses, working the cash register. I got curious and started asking some questions, which he answerd in a calm and friendly manner. His name is John, he tells me the market has just been acquired and there's new owners now, I take a look around and everything looks a little cleaner, the shelves are well stocked and the sweet Mexican-style bread (pan dulce) tempts me to take a bite, or two. This time I resist successfully. I returned today with my wife to shop and we found the produce, herbs, fruit we needed. I invited my daughter to have some coffee flavored ice cream (that way I don't look like I'm the sweet tooth/instigator) and she was happy. Hopefully the store will continue on a more successful trend as it has been an important part of the community for at least as long as I have been a resident. This is a small business owned by real people. Its not a huge chain store that doesn't care about its customers. Their employees are all friendly and bilingual. They have a good selection of everything you need. The produce is always fresh. They have a great variety of produce, and everything is enormous! The carrots are like tree trunks! The squash is bigger than you can find at any store in a five mile radius. Not Ralph's, not Vons or Pavillions, not Albertsons, and definitely not Food4Less can offer the superb produce and meats Alhambra market has to offer. There's never a long wait for anything. This is one of the only Mexican markets in Alhambra. My family comes here a lot. One of the carniceros told my mom how he didn't approve of my clothing since I dress masculine and how he wouldn't let me dress like that if I was his child. Besides this man all the other Spanish speaking employees are warm and friendly. I however, dread getting service from the Indian (I believe) men who own the store. They do not make me feel comfortable shopping here and their customer service is horrible. I rather drive 7 minutes down and go to the Mexican markets in El Sereno. Whomever gives this DUMP 4 stars must be employed there. I went there yesterday on my way home from COSTCO because I needed a bell pepper and a small onion. THE PLACE STINKS, and has the ambiance of a knock off "99 cents only" store. Upon entering, ALL the produce to the left, was either rotting and/or wilted. The meat department REEKED of rotting/old meat. The floor is FILTHY. PRICES ARE TOO HIGH! If you want fresh produce, go to Aldy, or if you are headed into the neighboring community, drive the extra mile plus into L.A./El Sereno and go to Big Saver. I swear, you can smell the mice hiding in the nooks and crannies of Alhambra Market. The walls are dingy, and if you go in, gaze up into the merchandise section (on the right as you enter) and observe all the dust covered boxes up by the ceiling. THIS STORE IS NASTY!!!!! read more

My family comes here since it's a nearby neighborhood market. Their prices used to be super cheap when they opened up probably to draw in local customers but now the prices are only OK and you basically go for advertised items in their weekly flyer. The produce are always on the sad looking side, like Ralph's and Albertsons would throw away fruits and vegetables of this quality. A small selection you can find wilted small heads of lettuce and log sized carrots with splits in them. This market has its own lot, but watch out customers don't look when back out. read more

The Alhambra Market has some of the best prepped carne aside from a grocery store. I don't know how they're marinating it, but it has an awesome flavor to it. I drive all the way from East LA just to stock up on a few pounds of it. I picked up 5lbs of it today at $6.99/lb. There's something about the small "Ma and Pa" vibe I dig about this place. I do think they need to add some kind of numbering/ticketing system at the butcher section that most supermarkets have. It got kind of busy when I was there, and got worried that people showing up after me would be attended to beforehand. Fortunately, the guy taking orders was very aware of his surroundings and knew who to call on next without there being a clear line. Still, I imagine mistakes can be made, and it would be better to call out a number to know for sure who is next. read more

There is a deli, a produce section, and a handful of aisles of food. Most of which is unhealthy. I did pick up their homemade salsa which was delicious. i love this market. they have their own parking lot (right on Main), lots of carts, friendly staff, and cheap produce! the produce is not always the freshest, but it's a lot better than some of the stuff i see at the regular markets (like Ralphs and Vons). the turn over must be faster because prices are so low. i always get bananas, cilantro, carrots, celery and brown onions from here. very cheap! the fruits are also more local (USA & California). eggs are $2.50 a dozen. i only get ground beef from the meat counter so i can't comment too much about any of the other proteins, but they have already marinated meats that might be good if you're looking for a quick meal. they're also salsa and guacamole on the meat counter, but i buy the same stuff in the cooler (with the chorizo and cheeses and rice pudding) since i'm concerned about the perishablility. i recommend this Mexican market for their produce and salsa! read more

Here's why I like Alhambra market....pre-cut meat. I make a lot of beef stir fry and the AM always has the sirloin steak cut up already. That is perfect, just what I need. This is a small neighborhood market, with a meat counter. I'm not crazy about their meat, as a matter of fact I purchased chicken once and took it straight home, but once I opened the bad, the horrible stench of rotten meat came flying out. Yea, I'd avoid the meat counter. I see a review that mentions they use Harris Ranch beef, I HIGHLY doubt that. Just because they have Harris Ranch signs doesn't mean a thing. As a matter of fact I looked up retailers on the Harris Ranch website, and shocker...Alhambra Market isn't listed! I definitely have mixed feelings regarding the Alhambra Market. I live extremely close to the market and am often seen in pajamas right before it closes (at 9pm) struggling to decipher the different spanish labels to find what I need. The market has a sufficient selection of produce, meat, and regular grocery items. Don't expect to find any liquor there as they only sell beers [limited variety] and wine [moderate variety]. The employees there are very nice but if you're looking for something complicated it'd definitely be a plus if you could ask for it in spanish. Overall, I gotta love the place because its so close to me and can provide me with staples, but if you're looking for anything specific you might wanna try the Ralphs down the street! read more

OK I should be honest, but I only come here for one thing and that is getting their wicked awesome meats at their carniciera. I dont even know if I wrote that right. Well being raised among asians in Alhambra I had no idea what real mexican food was, let alone seeing where they exist and such other than my mom who is from Mexico. Thus I was raised on taco bell and ground beef tacos. It wast till I got older and discovered La Estrella, King Tacos, East La and taco trucks that I found out was real mexican food was. But the problem arose where can I purchase it and make it on my own? Definetely not Alhambra I thought - not at ralphs or 99 ranch i thought. Not until one day I got the flyer for alhambra market and went on a whim to check it out. Boy was I ever happy. Their Prices were hella cheap and their Pollo Asada is to die for. I can eat it for a week and not get tired of it. Their Carne Asada and Chicken Fajitas are also great. Anyways still love going here and wont ever stop, also a great store to get other Latino products such if you need some tres flores hair gel or those taboo latino revistas. read more

The store definitely has character, and it isn't for everyone, but I like it a lot. I usually hit it up after stops at Fresh and Easy and/or Target. It's convenient and has some great homemade salsa, Mexican essentials like religious candles and beer, great prices for the larger bottles of A&W Root Beer, Ruby Red Squirt, 7Up and the like, plus pan dulce, the selection of which is hit or miss depending on what day it is and what time you go. I received flyers every Tuesday and checked out the weekly specials. This store is small but is clean and organized. It stocks well with items that are on sale. While chicken wings would cost over $2.50 per pound at other stores, this store would sell them at 99 cents per pound every few weeks as advertised. It also sells my favorite items such as limes, bananas, oxtails, beef ribs, shrimps, oranges, watermelons etc at prices cheaper than other bigger supermarkets. The cashiers and butchers are very friendly and seem to enjoy working in this small store. This is a little store with big surprises in this town :) In addition, it is very easy to get in and out of the store which is located near confusing intersections with other big stores such as Target, Costco, etc. read more

Under the radar mexican meat market possibly owned by Asians I dunno. Marinated dark meat chicken very good, guacamole is spicy and delicious, chipotle salsa is my favorite salsa here. Buy those 3 things with some tortillas and you got yourself a good mexican dinner. read more

Before Fresh 'N' Easy, there was the Alhambra Market. Okay place for produce and meats. Quality and service is about average. I bought some chicken here a few times and wasn't very impressed. I like this place because it is VERY AUTHENTIC. Alhambra Market is REALLY EXCELLENT! If you like your salsa or guacamole FRESH, HOMEMADE, and Hot this is the place to get it. The FRESH Chorizo at the meat counter is significantly less fatty and less watery then commercial brands and they have the BEST selection of Hispanic Cheeses I have seen. This market is GREAT! I drive all the way from Costa Mesa to buy products I can't find anywhere else, like El Ebro black beans. Of all the canned black beans around, this brand is the best. All the other brands are too bland. The other variations are great too, such as Fabada and the red beans. Also, I find traditional Spanish items for the Holidays like turrón and Sidra El Gaitero. Hard to find. This is the also the only store I found that carry cascos de guayaba. For some reason, you can't find a can anywhere in the OC. Other Cuban products I like here are cafe Bustelo, frozen platanos madurus and tostones, yuca and banana chips. My whole family shops there. The staff is super nice and friendly and parking is easy. read more
