    Online Orders Only

Hours have changed and they seem to no longer be open for retail business. It's online orders only now. Tried to go today, 3/8/25, and even though Yelp and Google Maps said they were open, they were not.

Finest quality flour milled in small batches. I have been looking for good quality flour ever since I started baking sourdough and I think I found the place. Great selection of gift items as well. Bought couple of bags of flour to bake with. I was told they also offer bread making classes so I'm looking forward to that. Just check their website for updates and info. Great customer service.

    Best flour ever!

Finally, was able to check this place out and am I ever glad I did! The variety of artisan grains and flours are amazing. The customer support from Issac is beyond awesome. I've been baking sourdough for over a year now, so I have a lot to still learn. Issac has a vast knowledge base which he readily shares. Having been to other mills in the SO Cal area , I can say without a doubt that Grist and Toll is by far, the best.

Have you heard of small batch or "artisan" milled grain? I suppose it could be a trend. But trend or no trend, it's a method that goes back to our beginnings, to the way things were originally done - before industrialization, before commercialization and a ton of other jumbo jumbo that hasn't done our bodies any good (of course, read more into it and you'll realize how poor innocent gluten got blamed for no good reason). I know it sounds utterly healthy and you'd think it might taste too healthy, but believe it or not, it's quite the opposite. Have you ever had bread that wowed you and made you think "This is REAL bread."? Well that's what stuff made with G&S' flours will make you think. It's like the what you experience when you've had Tartine bread and pastries. Whenever I bake with G&S there's an amazing texture and flavor that comes with it. It's not about just the ingredient itself, but HOW the ingredient, in this case, wheat (the grain), is prepared. Yes, it does come at a premium price, but once you try it you'll understand why, and you'll never want to bake without it ever again. So yeah.. you know I'll say it: G&S is so worth the drive to the eastside.

50/50 using the Hard Red and Bob's Red Mill all purpose. Amazing flavor!

I'm writing this as we are sampling my husband's first loaf using 50% of the Red Wheat and we are amazed at how well it worked. He uses the Jim Lahey method and haven't been able to really get over 25% whole wheat. Freshly milled makes a difference. The guy who helped us was very knowledgeable and had good advice. Will be back!

I was out and about with Chef Sharon on an #culinaryadventure and she wanted to stop in this place as the hours aren't always conducive for regular peeps. The finest quality of Flour you can purchase and the branding is nothing short of gorgeous. The staff that work here love what they do and are most helpful with providing recipes to accompany your purchases. Everyone knows that I am all about special gifts for people well if you have someone that loves to bake bread this is a delightful place to impress that Chef or friend. Respectfully Reviewed

Best flour EVER!!! I have taken up a hobby with bread baking and a pastry chef told me that G&T is the best place to get flour from. This is true. I have not found anything better anywhere local. I think it has to with them being very picky about where they get their flour berries from and they will it themselves in their own stone mill. Every time I go in they are super friendly and helpful. They could talk to me for hours about bread and baking and just give away recipes they have. They genuinely seem to love what they do and take pride in their craft. I can't say enough about how great it is to have them here! If you are someone who bakes anything and needs some flour, definitely come here to get it. It us the best you can get. Even if Mr you mess up a bread loaf like I do... Often the results are still the best tasting lump of something. G&T flour will not disappoint.

Tartine style bread made with grist and toll whole wheat flour
    Dan Q.

Grist & Toll is a local artisan flour mill. When I was there, the owner was super friendly and answered all of my questions about flour. Hydration wise if you bake a 50 white flour/50 whole wheat bread, the water percentage is about 75%. If you bake a 100% whole wheat bread, water percentage is about 80%. Prices are a little higher than the supermarket, but what you get is a high quality flour and a face you can associate with the flour. If you like baking, I recommend picking up some bags and trying it out.

They have a large selection of frozen foods as well, and more varieties of ice cream. Everyone seems cool, and I enjoy coming here. The parking lot is big, as it's in a plaza. The Caesar salad was amazing as always and the charred broccolini was a first for me at Marina and that was also very good. However, my partner and I were extremely disappointed with the lamb chops! We order this every time we come and this time, the seasoning is different. Don't get me wrong, it was still okay but since we already know how it is supposed to taste, based on the last 10 visits, this dish was a thumbs down this time. The seasoning on the lamb chops this time is something I would taste at a Chinese skewer spot. For the main dishes, we had ordered the branzino, the pork chop, dry aged NY strip, and crab tagliatelle. The branzino was not new to us but the rest are. They were all good except we would never order the pork chop again. When the pork chops arrive, my partner looked disappointed but still ate it. He had forced me to try some as well. We discussed it afterwards and the best way to compare it to is like eating Dave's Hot Chicken without the pickles and buns and has the coleslaw looking stuff with arugula mixed in. Well, I hope the lamb chops was a one off thing. My partner said we will have to hold off on going for a while now after this experience.
