The highlight of our shopping experience, was the beef jerky section. They had many great flavors and the meat was soooo tender and delicious. This was sliced and stored in the dessert refrigerator section where all the take out foods were located. Loads of coconut flavor with toasted coconut flakes! After each bite, there is a strong coconut flavor, yet you can taste the coconut essence in it versus real coconut flavor too, which detracts from the coconut cake eating experience. Lol. The cream is not as sweet as the cake. The cake itself is denser and had a wet texture versus a fluffy cake texture. That can be a big minus for those who are looking for that fluffy cake texture. Overall it is sweet, but not super sweet. The filling was coconut milk, but it tasted like condensed milk with coconut flavor added to it. Liked the flavor of the filling. It was not as sweet as expected either. The addition of toasted coconut flakes was delish. It really made everything taste better. This cake is still sweeter than Erewhon's Carrot Cake. One thing that was different was they used almond meal instead of all purpose flour. So the texture is different. It is a dense cake, as expected, but also like the coconut cake it is a wet cake too. While checking out I watched a manger circumvent these stalwart gates by lightly pushing one side which set off a piercingly loud alarm. I finished my transaction in which I paid $125 for three bags of groceries (no meat, no booze). It then dawned on me that this Vons wants it both ways - treat its customers like thieving trash but expect us to pay Beverly Hills prices. They upset me when they removed the handles from the bags but this is the final straw for me. I won't be patronizing Vons until those useless gates are removed. I miss the breakfasts that were made to order here ages ago. But with Amazon buying the store brand, some prices seem lower. Always browse the clearance section. He didn't try to put it in the cart himself because even he couldn't (it was so heavy). He didn't have the common sense or decency to even try emptying some of it into another bag . He just stood there, said nothing. (I ended up doing that myself) I tried to cut some slack for these guys, and give them the benefit of the doubt, and I've never once been rude to anyone there (even when I felt I had every right) I still kept quiet. However, the consistency of the horrendous customer service skills is disgraceful and disgusting. Where are the managers? Who is on the hiring committee? The manager actually told me the same thing. I explained how wrong this was and the manager finally said to hold on for a minute so that he can call the other store and try to work out a solution. I'm the end, they made a correction in their system to manually enter the corrected price and yield the correct total refund. It took a while but I was happy 8 didn't have to make a trip out to the other store.
