We happened to be in the area and decided to stop here for a few items we enjoy cooking at home. The market itself is big, well-organized, and clean. Every shelf and display case was fully stocked. The employees, except the cashier, who asked whether we were paying by cash or card, were NOT friendly or welcoming in any way: no greetings, no eye contact, nothing. We felt as though we did not exist. I observed this treatment for ALL customers in the store, not just my wife and me, but everyone. Prices were just ok. Sale items were good, but everyday items were not as good. I can honestly say I will never return to this market, as it is rather far from our home. More importantly, I am big on customer service, and we did not receive it while shopping there. read more

Surprisingly a good 168 market, pretty clean coming in and a good selection of food items and fresh ones. I came in to look for mooncakes to gift to our older generation of the family and friends, they have it all displayed near the entrance so pretty easy to find. So many selection, my son picked a modern style colorful mooncake that actually confused the receivers and thought they were toys... We explored the meat and seafood area where they still had some fresh live seafood such as shrimp, fish, and crabs. We also checked out the baked goods and they had some on sale due to being a day old! It's a nice place to explore as we wait for our dinner and table to be ready nearby. The staff checking us out was fast and helpful, also one of them went to get the bags for my moon cakes and before I knew it there was she was with the bags right as I checked out! I wasn't in a line for long too so it surprised me how fast she got them from another counter. read more

Stopped by this market to pick up some fruit since I've been eating crazy lately in this area. I like this store the best out of all the ones I've gone to in San Gabriel because it has a bakery and pastries are one of my weaknesses!! Not your typical Albertsons cakes and pastries either... 168 has lots of Chinese buns, pastries, cakes and Taro cake!!!! This market is located on Las Tunas, right beside Sun Nong Dan, where the Pizza Hut is at the corner. Plenty of parking in the morning, but not in the afternoons or evening since there are several other stores in this shopping area. Inside is clean and as I've mentioned, the best thing about it is the Chinese bakery inside!! And I'm sooooo going to try their baked goods later in the week. read more

It's freezing in here! The whole market temperature feels like a Costco freezer section! I was in and out quick! Been waiting to visit this location of 168 Market, but parking is no joke here in this busy plaza. I was dining nearby so I got a chance step inside the market for some snacks my daughter wanted... they didn't have her snacks but I thought this was a pretty cool market! The store is the same cleanliness you'd expect any Asian supermarket to be but overall a good place to shop. Make sure to check the expiration dates of some products because I have seen some expired products on the shelves here and there. So I got here around 9:50PM and I just needed to pick up tofu and sunflower seeds. At the door, the guy pushing carts blocks me out of the entrance with a stack of carts and then says they're closed. I asked him oh, it says you guys close at 10PM though. He looks around and asks a lady next to him who is out of range, and she's like yeah yeah. And he looks back at me and says closed. It's only 9:52PM though. This place isn't very good in the first place and I don't prefer shopping here in the first place. I've gotten expired food here on accident as well. None of the stocking clerks speak English - I went to ask the clerks and1 just spoke Chinese to me and the other guy said "No English!" The place also smells of rotten fish especially if you get closer to the fish tanks. All I wanted to know was where they kept the butane for kitchen torches. Luckily another clerk was stocking the exact item I was looking for as I walked by his cart and I grabbed a couple and left. Never coming back. read more

168 Market has a wide offering of items to satisfy any shopper. Even items I've never seen before in my life. One of my favorite departments in this market is the bakery section. Everything is made fresh and presented in the most enticing way, in a glass display case. The cakes here are my personal favorite, especially since they're not overly sweet and nicely decorated. Available in a whole or piece size servings. It goes without fail, I always get great service from the staff upon entering the market. Maybe I go there so much that everyone recognizes me and waves. read more

I also asked them when the sale ended and was told it would end on Thursday. I came back on Wednesday and the lobster price went up to $12.99. I got suckered as I wanted to make my mom happy. $10.99 per lb for a durian. There was a sign that says: no refund on durian purchase. Now I realize, it's a scam. The fruit inside was bad, not edible, so even if bad quality rotten inside they will not take action to correct. I have been shopping here for years and my husband loves to shop here, most of the time we don't have any issues with quality of the products and customer services however recently I encountered some problems with the same guy from seafood department. He is probably in his earlier 50th, I asked for the two live lobsters two months ago, he randomly picked two and I said they were too small and could I get two bigger ones? He became irritated and threw the two lobsters in the empty sink 10 feet away with attitude. Today it was thanksgiving and unfortunately he helped me again, this time he wrapped two lobsters quickly without letting me see, when I got home, one lobster is not moving and the other one was missing the big claw! Totally dishonest pricing. There are many things that are not labeled ( I think on purpose ). Last time I bought some dried mushroom. I didn't look at the receipt. After spending an hour driving home I was shock that I paid $14.00 for a small bag of dried mushroom. I can't return it because I live too far away. Today, I needed some dry noodles , so called udon with Japanese packaging. Again below the noodles there was no price. I thought i can't be that expensive. I drove home and discovered $7.19 for 5 bunches of dried noodles. I think the management purposely left out pricing for some of the items because if they were to put their price, no one will buy it because it is twice as expensive as the chinese brand. I had it with this 168 Market. First time it was shame on you. The second time it was shame on me. No more third time. I got ripped off twice already so never again. Needed to pick up some items to make some dishes I was craving. Cleaner than I expected. I believe on a previous visit before Covid it wasn't quite as nice. I expected to be hit with strong smells by the seafood area but was pleasantly surprised that it was not the case. They had almost everything I needed. Decided to stop by here with my parents after having lunch at a nearby restaurant. It is definitely similar to the 99 Ranch supermarket, but not as big as one of the ones I go to. They had multiple sections against the walls of the market, such as fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, frozen items, seafood and bakery. The middle aisles ranged from chips, desserts, teas, soups, etc. I quickly made my rounds of the store and picked up some rice crackers for myself, coffee flavored cookies for my boyfriend and lemon ginger crystals for my boyfriend's family. Definitely a nice place to do your grocery shopping at, but make sure to bring your reusable bags or tell them you want to buy some of the plastic ones they have available there since the cashier will not offer you any unless you ask. read more

This is one of the newest Chinese supermarkets in San Gabriel. There is actually another one (original store) a couple of miles away also in San Gabriel. This market is well stocked and is clean since it's still new. I like how there are benches and tables outside for people to sit. But, parking is tough to find on weekends since everybody and their grandma's comes here to shop. The people working here are not mean nor nice. Yes, rude sometimes... but something to expect since they're Chinese... not to be mean. But I must give them credit for always trying to be helpful. Well, to come to think about it... the customers are actually the more rude ones. They'll push their carts into you, and won't apologize. I will be mad if somebody rammed my achilles and didn't apologize. Oh well. They do have good deals in their meats and vegetable departments. But, prices always fluctuates as the economy is unstable. Looks nothing like the run down Albertsons that was there a few months ago. Definitely have a lot of staff, and this place is basically an Asian supermarket mecca... They have a variety of cultures that cater towards 626 residents including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and a little Japanese. Inside there is also a bakery that serves sweet treats as well as Bahn Mi for $2.68 or something like that. With the large amount of Asian residents in the area, I'm sure this place is going to do pretty well. read more

This market is new and caters to the Asian population in SGV.. so obviously, there will be a lot of embitterment among the non-Asians in the community. But what can you do? This is a great and convenient place for those of us who dread going all the way to Valley for cheap and diverse groceries. I like it because it's fresh and new, with great prices! We got soy milk and coca cola for spending more than $48 yay! I believe this place is worthy of replacing that Albertson's I used to love going to. But I feel bad for the businesses in the same plaza because it has to compete with it! haha. The only bad thing is a lot of the customers fit in with the whole "Asians can't drive" stereotype.. The parking lot's not as big as the Valley Blvd./New Ave. one so I guess I can't blame them. This is a COVID-19 update. The service here has overall remained the same and they are pretty well stocked now after about 3 weeks of empty shelves (like most other markets in the area). They follow most protocols to maintain a sanitized environment and even monitor the amount of people entering the store, but here are the things I've noticed that you should be aware of: 1. They no longer allow you to bring your own reusable bags into the store. But, unlike other markets, they still charge you $0.10 per bag. This makes no sense to me. If you're not allowing me to bring my own bag, why are you making me pay for one? Also I missed the sign the first time and brought in a bag. Basically got reprimanded by the cashier so that was fun. 2. They make announcements to maintain social distancing and even mark the floors with lines for the queues. The next thing I know, their employees are squeezing large carts right next to me and stocking the shelves. I completely understand that you're doing your best to keep the shelves stocked, but can't you wait 30 seconds for me to get my bottle of soy sauce before standing less than a foot from me? 3. This seems to be the only store around me that never seems to have a lot of meat left. Other stores are still well stocked in the meat department. I no longer come to 168 for meat. This isn't really their fault but just wanted to let fellow Yelpers know in case this was your one-shop stop. These are difficult times and the store is doing a good job overall in keeping customers and employees safe. There's some chaos with others trying to cut the lines, and essentially the employees don't really do much to maintain order, but I think the rest of us just accepts it and move on. There's still a little sense of feeling gypped in my case, because I go shopping to stock up every 2 weeks now. That's about 6 bags I am forced to pay for every time... read more

And I totally see price gouging on some of the items here. Overall employees here at fish section and the cashiers are very friendly. However most of the workers except one woman in MEAT section are EXTREMELY RUDE like customers begging for food from them. There're few guys always talk to customers in an unfriendly tones and don't even bother to ask them questions as you would probably get yelled at for no reasons. They should just quit if they hate their jobs, Don't take it out on customers! And the manager of this store should definitely teach those people what customer service is all about! read more
