The breakfast menu was decent but there could have been a larger variety for the dairy-free, egg-free people out here. I decided on the avocado toast, which is very difficult to mess up. Quick stop in for a drink before a dinner reservation nearby. I have never been to Elway's before and although I did not try any of the food, I'm sure it is divine. I tried the Peach Bourbon Smash and it was an interesting mix of tastes. It was ok and at $21, one drink was plenty for me. I did enjoy the Palisade Peach wedge on the side -- always nice to support local Coloradans. Service and ambiance were great, as expected. Elway's was on our list because we are Broncos fans visiting from out of state and you know, who doesn't love John Elway? Anyway, we came for brunch on a Sunday and made reservations thru Open Table. Given the time of year, it wasn't very busy. The restaurant gives an upscale but welcoming vibe. Our server Andy let us ask him 1,000 questions about the menu and recommendations and he didn't seem bothered one bit. He actually was very friendly, engaged, honest, and a great server. One of his recommendations was the steak burrito, which coming from CA I wasn't sure I wanted because CA makes great burritos already.. but, I went with it. Oh my gosh.. The steak burrito 5/5.. juicy, good, tons of flavor and lots of steak, needed no sauce at all. Best steak burrito I think I've had. French toast with apple compote 5/5 the chantilly cream and the airy good French toast were great together. Yum. 5/5 Colorado morning breakfast with the turkey sausage option w/a side of avocado 5/5 Out order took a bit to come out so he gave us pastries and fruit to help which was kind and appreciated. I'd also like to note I did ask about the crab Benedict and they gave me the option to order it (it wasn't on this menu anymore). Bloody Mary 5/5... my mom loved it. Elway's Downtown was a good dining experience. Located in the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton, Denver, it is centrally located to many city landmarks and major sporting fields. It is also within walking distance to 16th Street Mall. It is what you'd expect from an upscale steakhouse. However, their menu is diverse as they also offer breakfast and brunch. Unlike some steakhouses, they have a decent dessert menu. The customer service was good. I dined during late lunch, so the dining room was virtually empty. I had very good seating near the wine display. I ordered the steak breakfast burrito which was absolutely delicious. You can order it topped with sausage gravy or Colorado green chili. This was a first to Elway's downtown and boy how impressive is this place? Yes, the food is a bit on the pricey side (a la carte menu) but it is also very, very fantastic. We came here to celebrate my son's birthday in February and the fun part (for me) was as we were greeted by the hostess, she handed my son a signed photo from John Elway (prolly a facsimile). I think I was more stoked than he was. For dinner my son ordered the Rib-eye. I wasn't doing so well so ended up with soup and salad. Neither of us were disappointed. His rib eye was cooked as ordered, medium. I figured it was pretty darn tasty as he polished off all 22oz. I had the soup of the day, which was a Chicken Tortilla and it was excellent. It comes with the usje toppings, cheese, chips and sour cream. Our waitress was fabulous and even though it was busy with many patrons, it didn't seem too loud. Didn't notice anyway. The bathrooms are shared with the hotel and they are kept in excellent condition. Clean is key! The only downside was the parking situation. It being downtown was expected but the garage across the street (south side) had a different way to enter (call a number and speak to an automated agent with Q&A. Like, I just want to park please.) Anyway the garage closed up before we were done with dinner so we had to walk around to the other south side and get help from security. Totally spaced the valet option so definitely will try this next time. And of course would highly recommend doing such. read more

This is based on a recent experience that constitutes a total service failure. On a random Saturday night, Elways was obviously and totally overbooked. The entire Ritz lobby was full of people standing around waiting for their table for their (long past) reservations. It was so bad, that people were walking up and cancelling their reservations in real time. The ambience was akin to a crowded airport terminal after a monster weather delay. We encountered our waiter twice during the meal. He took our entire order when he first arrived. Our drinks did not arrive until the appetizers were finished. The food itself was actually very good, the salad and the porterhouse were delicious. The basque cheesecake also quite good. Ultimately, though, the food being good wasn't enough to salvage the experience. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

Went for dinner on a Saturday night. We had a party of 11. The restaurant was not busy at all. There was maybe 15 other diners at most. We were seated in a semi private room right of the front entrance. Here is the bad: We waited a long time to get water and menus. After ordering, our server brought bread to the table. We didn't have any silverware and then had to track him down for plates so we could butter the bread on something other than the napkins. It took almost an hour for half of the table to get their meals and the other half of the meals came about 5 minutes after that. Here is the good: The steaks we cooked perfect. Nicely charred on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside. The asparagus, the mushrooms, the truffle fries, the loaded baked potato, and the brussel sprouts were a hit with the group. I get it, the server has no control over the kitchen, but he does control the overall comfort of his customers. Not having silverware or plates after being presented with food tells me he was not customer focused. Maybe because he knew the mandatory tip for a large group was 25% and it was going to be added onto the bill regardless of his attentiveness towards us? read more

Brilliant service and very cool individual black booths (a good option when not wanting the steak house attached). The chicken wings looked great but sadly lacked the addicting flavor of its rivals. Great wedge salad. Would have liked a steak, but not at $75 thanks at a zenned up sports bar. We were excited to come back to Elways for New Year's Eve this year as we had a fantastic experience last year and were eager to make this place a new tradition. However, we felt like this meal fell short and we walked away feeling let down compared to last year. I'm not sure if they got a new chef, but the staple menu items we've ordered in the past and loved did not deliver. The asparagus was thin and cooked plainly, as well as the mushrooms which came off extremely earthy. Like dirt earthy. The tomahawk steak was fine, however, they had previously cut the steak at our table and the presentation was way nicer. The flavors of all the sides we got (asparagus, Brussels and mushrooms) were not cohesive, which is surprising because they are steak house essentials. Last, when it was time to have our food boxed up, our waiter handed us boxes, expecting us to box up the rest of the tomahawk steak. Our food was taken back and boxed up last year as we were in cocktail attire like we were this year and this is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. When we asked why they aren't boxing food anymore, we were told it was a personal preference since Covid happened which is kind of crap because that was 5 years ago and we just paid over $400 for dinner, for 2 people? Anyway, we left feeling confused and not eager to come back next year. We will find a new steakhouse to celebrate at. I was impressed with Elway's. I came with a group of friends on the recommendation of one friend's father and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is lovely and one particular thing I liked about it was that it was lively but not deafening. For some reason, every high end steakhouse in NYC is so loud and filled with finance & tech bros trying to out-testosterone each other than you can't hear the person next to you. Elway's, by contrast, although filled with the Colorado equivalent of tech/finance bros-- but wearing cowboy hats-- had a good energy level but I could hear people across the table from me. Service was top-notch from start to finish. Scott was our waiter and he was exceptional...one member of our party has particular likes and dislikes and he handled everything with grace and aplomb. Matching the service was the food and drink. My rye old fashioned was spectacular. For food, I started by splitting a Caesar salad and that was wonderful. Then my 12 oz NY Strip came out and it was perfectly prepared and delicious. The sides were great too, especially the mashed potatoes, asparagus and spinach. I wasn't thrilled about the brussels sprouts as I prefer mine a little crisper but that's not the way they were prepared so I can't fault them. For dessert, my husband and I split a key lime pie that had a special anniversary message on it. It was a nice surprise and the tartness of the pie was a great coda to the meal. This was an exceptional meal from start to finish. I'd definitely go back...especially if someone else was paying because it is not cheap. My wife and I decided to do Thanksgiving dinner out now that our daughter is out of the house overseas. We went through a list in the westword to pick a restaurant and settled upon Elways. We had only eaten there once at the Cherry Creek location 8 years ago but we enjoyed it then. The atmosphere is fine and the host staff was nothing but pleasant. We were seated pretty quickly right around our reservation time and we received pretty good service from our waitress the entire meal. Our drinks came out right away, but that's where the problems with food and drink quality started. My wife ordered a drink off the menu and it came out very nice and she enjoyed it. However...I ordered 2 draft beers for the whole meal and they both came out very flat, with almost no head and at a warmer temperature than one would expect. I have no experience running a bar, but as a customer there is clearly something wrong with the draft beer delivery system. I looked at all the beers at other tables around us and they all looked very flat...same as both of mine. The wedge salad I ordered for $19 was incredibly underwhelming. The hole-in-the-wall pizza place by our house does a very robust wedge for $8. Elways was a quarter wedge with two dried out pieces of bacon, a teaspoon or so of blue cheese, and some dressing. So far in the meal almost nothing lived up to the $350/couple dining experience of say Guard and Grace or 808 in Cherry Creek. We both ordered the filets for dinner with mashed potatoes and the Thai Brussel sprouts as sides. The steaks were cooked perfectly.....however they were almost completely unseasoned. One side of mine did have a bit of seasoning but as a whole it most certainly did not live up to the $70 price tag. The cut of meat itself was very nice, it just wasn't prepared very well. The mashed potatoes were very good but, they're mashed potatoes (lol). Some butter and a little seasoning and they're kinda hard to mess up. But, to be fair, they were good. The Brussels sprouts were another story. They were billed as "Thai". Nothing about them stood out as "Thai". There was no spice to them, and they were almost soupy. Drowned in butter to provide flavor. They weren't horrible but again, they didn't come close to what you would expect from their price tag. All in all Elways downtown Denver does not come close to living up to the premium steakhouse price tag that it charges. It is not a bad meal to be sure. It is just not a high-end meal that one would expect from the name Elway and the Ritz hotel it is in. We would not consider a return to Elways downtown at the price point we paid tonight. It is simply not at that level. I have nothing to do with the restaurant industry, but if you are downtown Denver looking for a truly great steakhouse try Guard and Grace (we tried to book there tonight but it was full). Also A5 down by Ball Arena and 808 in Cherry Creek are places we have eaten that are truly magnificent and live up to the $350ish/couple price point. read more

Elway's has typically been a family tradition for years but seems to have gone down hill our last two visits. Mother's Day brunch was a huge disappointment. I can best describe the service as awkward. Brought us wrong food multiple times, and one server actually criticized us for trying the dessert buffet before our main course (we had only done so because our first server encouraged us too, which was super awkward to then be criticized). Even ordering a diet soda was awkward, they painfully explained, without needing to, how they have different beverage vendors and why some are cans and others are fountain, it was just TMI and awkwardly shared. The menu was extremely limited, bland, dried out and super boring. My son had the roasted chicken, and he barely ate any of it as it was so dry it was hard to cut. I had the prime rib which was also very overcooked and bland. It also wasn't very family friendly, options were more suited to a senior center than an upscale downtown restaurant at the Ritz. I've had better meals flying economy. Probably shouldn't call it a brunch and not offer any breakfast items. The dessert table also missed the mark, the pastries were all dried up and almost stale tasting. Wasn't much variety. The last two times we've been there, it's been a very strange crowd and ambiance. Today, they had a rather odd DJ booth set up in the lobby that felt more appropriate for a club night in Las Vegas than a Mother's Day brunch in Denver. Also, the restaurant manager and the server had what sounded like a game plan conversation about turning over tables about one inch from me, hovering over me awkwardly. The food was fine. Recently renovated and better than ever, ELWAY's offered a delectable menu complemented by an extensive wine list. ELWAY'S also just announced happy hour daily from 3-5 PM with $14 specialty cocktails, $12 wine, $6 beers, & $10 appetizers! We were seated in the main dining room and Juan was our server. Juan, GM Brendon, & Elway's staff were polished and attentive. We each started with drinks, the Seasonal Smash made with Cinnamon, Lemon, Pomegranate, Strawberry Puree, & Fever Tree Soda Water. This mocktail had a tart base from the lemon and pomegranate while the strawberry puree added sweetness and a fruity punch. The cinnamon added a warm and slightly spicy note, which was unexpected in a summery drink but complemented the fruit nicely. The soda water added lightness and bubbles, making it a perfect summer sipper. The Lamb Chop Fondue was made with green chili fondue, sweet potato, & Chimayo chips (you cannot go to Elway's without getting the Lamb Chop Fondue)! The lamb was mouthwatering - succulent & sweet. We dunked the tender lamb into the fondue and the green chili provided a savory and delicately spicy base. The sweet potato chips added a starchy contrast to the lamb & fondue. The Tuna Tartare was made with ahi tuna, scallion, guacamole, yuzu ponzu, creamy spicy aioli, & wasabi crema. The diced tuna was light and refreshing; it went well with the creamy guac. The House Salad was made with butter and romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, shaved radishes, chopped bacon, parmesan, eggs, lemon croutons, & parmesan vinaigrette. The salad was tangy and fresh with a nice zing from the shaved radishes. All of Elway's steaks are Hand Cut USDA Prime Steaks. The Filet, 6oz was cooked medium rare (red throughout, warm center) and for Add Ons, I did the Horseradish Aioli. The filet was a lean cut with exceptional tenderness. It had a rich beef flavor, and the Horseradish Aioli added a bit of a kick. The New York Step, 12oz was cooked medium per Ross' preference (slight pink, warm red center). The New York Strip was a flavorful cut with good marbling. It had a nice sear on the outside. For sides, we had the Loaded Baked Potato & Thai Basil Brussels Sprouts. The Loaded Baked Potato was made with bacon, cheddar, chives, & sour cream. The Thai Basil Brussels Sprouts were made with parmesan, bacon, Thai balsamic vinaigrette, & black truffle. For dessert, we had Edgar's Key Lime Pie served with whipped cream and blueberry sauce. The Key Lime Pie was massive and was enough for two to share.
