Celebrated a big business success recently and decided to go whole hog (is that even a saying these days?:) on a dining-extravaganza. Decided on A5 because 1) it's got some great appetizers / starters, 2) love the servers there, and 3) was in the mood to chow down on a hunka-chunka serious steak, and for the first time get a tomahawk slab o' beef that I had seen before on the A5 menu. Came in early on a Thursday night (6:15 pm) so the place was losing its happy hour crowd and had not yet been swooped down on by the hip dinner crowd. A great time to go. Could not have been better. Started with their crab and shrimp dip app and Japanese milk bread, both of which are stand-out non-steak items on their menu. Ordered the tomahawk steak which is ridiculously large (over 40 ounces (10 of which is from the large rib bone)) and ridiculously good (and ridiculously expensive . . . as in like over $225), along with an order of asparagus. Loved it all. Of course, we split the steak and had no room for dessert. Brought home probably 10 ounces of meat along with some other leftovers which will give us another night of good at-home eating. Bottom line . . . wonderful experience. Pricey but they made it a true celebration for us and it was well worth it. Go. You'll have a great time there, and if you don't want to blow a bundle and its your first time at A5, check them out at happy hour. It's probably the best deal for the best HH food in Denver. read more

In town and staying downtown, we were looking for a lively bar with great food and drinks before catching an Avalanche game, and A5 absolutely delivered. We came during happy hour (3:30-5:30 pm) and grabbed seats at the bar, which was buzzing in the best way. The drink deals alone are worth it: $10 Negronis, martinis, margaritas, and daiquiris (regularly $18+). Solid pours, well balanced, no shortcuts. We ordered the chef's choice oysters, fresh and perfectly chilled. Simple, clean, and done right. We also tried the wagyu yakitori from the happy hour menu. Dinner service starts at 5 pm, and they do offer full sit down dining service if you prefer a table experience. Shoutout to Brittany, our bartender. Friendly, efficient, and kept the energy up even while the bar was packed. Fun ambiance, busy but not chaotic, and a great pre game vibe. Would absolutely come back, game night or not. This is in a great location in downtown Denver quick access to Ball Arena. It is a wonderful steakhouse Japanese style. All of the add-ons were just delightful. Food was just delightful. The staff was also very attentive. I wish I would've tried something other than the chicken, but I thought I might like that better than a heavy steak, but everybody else's steak looked amazing. This places fills up quick so get a reservation in place. We went here on a Thursday night and its a cozy restaurant with a second floor. We ordered several dishes with anticipation to take some home and finish off our entrees. The house salad with the poutine as our starters. House salad had a good mix of crunch with the dressing and I would highly recommend the poutine. Crispy fries, tender pot roast, and very flavorful curry that has a kick with the red pepper...too good. For the sides, we got cabbage and the mac n cheese and both were good. Was visiting Denver as a party of 6 and decided to make reservations here for our brother in law's 50th birthday at 6:30 pm on a Monday. This was a recommended place online so that's how we chose this place and boy were we glad we did. Place was casual which was great because we hate dressing up. Atmosphere was great and my 11 year old niece said this place was a vibe. Iforgot to take a picture of the seafood tower. We ordered the small one which was perfect because only half of our table could eat seafood. It came with oysters, lobster, shrimp cocktail and ceviche. This is a steakhouse so we all had to order a steak. I loved that they sliced them and cooked them so deliciously. The sides were amazing we cleaned up all the plates. Cocktails were all good. My mouth is watering just thinking about the meal I had at A5! My friend and I have been bopping around steakhouses in Denver, finally getting around to trying this one in LoDo. We were seated upstairs (the hallway is kinda narrow and wall lights are bright) overlooking the main floor of the restaurant. It felt so fancy! I had the Denver Steak (medium rare) with a Dirty Martini. We started with Oysters Motoyaki and Mac & Cheese Croquettes. The tomato jam for the croquettes is to die for. This was definitely a splurge of a dinner when I came here with a group of friends for a celebratory dinner. Upon arrival we were directed to the bar to grab a drink as our large party table wasn't just quite ready. No issues for us since we instead asked if we could enjoy oysters alongside our cocktails. That was going to be part of our meal anyways so why not make the most of it? Once we were directed to our table near the large windows, that's when the dining experience began. From Japanese milk buns to bone marrow topped steak, it was flavorful but expect to spend a pretty penny if you want to explore the menu. I enjoyed their wine selection and they had something for any price range of preference. It's a cute environment and the staff was super friendly. Spontaneously came to this spot on a wimp and was able to find bar seating despite not having a reservation. Looks like it gets real busy between maybe 5-8pm on the weekend. Its a nice little rustic intimate steakhouse. Do emphasize that by no means, intimate. Because the restaurant is small. The noise level was practically a concert. The food was well made with good portion to split between 2 people. My only complains that the food took forever to get to us. Everyone left by the time we got our foods. The steak has a nice very very salty crust on the outside. I had to take a sip of water after every bites. But it paired nicely with the unseasoned whipped potatoes. I am not sure what sauce was on the steamed asparagus that they did not list on the ingredients menu. But the asparagus was slimy. Without the topping it was like eating wet slimy bland asparagus. Pulled up on a whim on a Friday and was stoked to get sat immediately for two. Very upbeat vibe and no snobby steakhouse energy. Service was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The Negroni was decent but the martini was fire. Of course the steak was the star of the show. 12oz Delmonico was surprisingly affordable and was cooked perfectly. Great cut of meat and the chimichurri was a perfect add on. Based on this experience, I'm excited to come Back and try more of the menu. Proper steakhouse experience approved. read more

It was a generous portion. Not the best we've had. A little bland. Sadly, the bread was really soft & got soggy quickly. We ordered the flank steak medium and the lettuce wraps. Lettuce wraps were spicy! Plenty of meat, but there could've been more veggies. Flank steak was buttery, but didn't stand out. The side of kimchi fried rice was really good. We would get that again in a heartbeat. Service was ok. Food took a generous amount of time to come out. Be prepared to wait because it's all made to order. Tucked away around the corner from Union Station, A5 offers a moody yet relaxed ambience and some good food! We came here for a celebration for the first time, and tried a little bit of everything. The wedge salad was good, but started off the meal with the expectation of small portion sizes for the price tag. We also tried the oysters flown from Maine, which were very fresh and easy to eat. There was much to be desired from the steak course however, with the filet minon underwhelming in seasoning and minimal plating that left so much to be desired. A small chunk of meat on a plate did not translate as refined as I hoped. The other steak with bone marrow and onions was more flavorful but extremely pricey for, again, just meat on a plate. While this is a trendy spot with some good options, the food (at the price point) did not standout enough for me to wish to come back. read more

Okay first thing, this is not your average steakhouse. It is family friendly we enjoyed seeing so many different types of people getting dinner here. It wasn't stuffy or snooty like a lot of upscale steakhouses. It was very difficult to decide what to get on the menu, so we got a lot of different items and had so much leftover for an additional dinner the next night. the Japanese poutine was so good. The fries were still crispy, the sauce was yummy and it wasn't too messy to eat. the wedge salad was really good and a massive portion that I wasn't expecting to get. I wasn't a fan of the tomatoes in it and thought the pickled onions should've been cut smaller but was still yummy with their homemade dressing. the Japanese milk bread however stole the appetizer show for us! Talk about fluffy yet flavorful. We would've ordered several of them and even saw the table next to us skip dessert and order a 2nd round before they left from dinner. You MUST get it. We also got the Santa Maria tri tip (with bordelaise) and the picanha (with chimichurri). Both were perfectly cooked as requested and both had such different but distinctly delicious flavors. I personally thought trip tip was smoky and crispy and I wanted to eat it every day. The picanha had a different sear and marinade to it from the tri tip but was also delicious in its own right. We ended up getting the fries and the Mac and cheese as well as sides and the sauce with the fries was interesting... I wouldn't get it again as it had a strangely sweet taste but not a pleasant one in my opinion. The Mac and cheese though were so creamy and paired so well with the pepper jam sauce! We obvi didn't save room for dessert but who cares. The dinner was great! I would say the service was a little slow.... Looking around, it appeared each server had a lot of tables so we felt a little neglected. This was on a Monday night so I'd hate to see it during prime time! Visited here as two couples, as part of our new resolve to tour the top restaurants in Denver. And, yes, I can see why A5 was on the list. FOOD - Everything I tasted was top-shelf good. We had an amazing Japanese curry poutine (!) as a starter (the other three also had Oysters Rockefeller; not my bag, but they all made yummy noises). We eschewed the sides and salads (though there were numerous things there that looked good) to go straight through to steak. We shared a massive Porterhouse steak between the four of us -- priced as such, but everyone had their fill. The meat was cooked just as we ordered (medium rare). The sauces and special bone marrow/alliums accompaniment all added to the meaty bliss. We skipped desserts (a fairly scant menu) in favor of some good coffee. DRINK - A wide array of elegant cocktails were on the drink menu. We tried four separate ones, and each was very, very good. The wine list was long enough to feel luxurious, short enough to not feel overwhelmed. Prices were high, but the cab we got went very nicely with the steak. SERVICE - We had a very helpful and friendly waiter. The only negative I could say here is that service got slower as the restaurant filled up; the interval between entree being finished and dessert menus being presented and coffees ordered and coffees delivered was ever-increasing to the point of being mildly annoying. A 20% service charge is included in the meal price; further tipping for exceptional service is accepted, but not expected. AMBIANCE - Seating was comfortable. Places were well lit (esp. with the little lamps on each table). The place was a bit busier, and with tighter (though not cramped) seating, that I would expect for the food and service delivered (and the prices paid). The noise level got substantial enough to cover the background music, but never to the point we could not hear each other. All told, it's not a place I would necessarily bring someone for a romantic dinner for two. VALUE - So this place charges top dollar. The four of us, with cocktails and wine, plus service charge, dropped about $700, and could easily have dropped more if we'd done salad, sides, dessert, more wine, more cocktails. So ... not a place I would casually go. I could see coming for a very special occasion, though, because net-net I think we got our money's worth. read more

What an awesome place! I booked based on Michelin Guide recommendations! And then, learned from a coworker that he dined at A5 recently with his son for his son's birthday! He gave rave reviews about the porkbelly so we had to get that and it was amazing - perfect crunch, tenderness, smokiness and juicyness! So yum! Hamachi ceviche was good too! And then we got couple of steaks to share between three of us, and one with bone marrow! Denver one was really really good. Picanha was alright, a little too chewy and fatty! But both tasted great! Our server offered to bring a salard but unfortunately missed the boat. Checking the menue there is a 20% surcharge for staff. Nice move for the owner to help his staff from living in boxes under the Freeway to Penthouse Condos in Denver. So on top of the surcharge and a usually 20% tip would equal 40% of the meal cost. As the prices at A5 are in the upper range, makes a meal there an expensive night out. Perhaps the owner(s) might dip into their own pockets to help their staff maintain a livable condition.? read more

We were sat promptly, our seating was spacious, comfortable and clean. Our server was attentive and great. The food was good, but I don't think the price justified the quality. Don't get me wrong, the fired rice was fantastic, the kalbi lettuce wraps were great. But their steak choices were unusual for a steakhouse. And $130 for a bone in strip is quite steep. My girlfriend treated me to a birthday and engagement celebration at A5, and it was such a memorable experience! I hadn't been before, but I recognized the fun neon sign as soon as we pulled up. Inside, the vibe is amazing--super cute and perfect for a girls' night out or a cozy date night. We shared several dishes: the hamachi, the wedge salad, the tenderloin steak with chimichurri, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese croquettes. Everything was absolutely delicious! The only small critique I have is about the wedge salad--it could've used a bit more dressing, and the pickled onions felt slightly out of place. But honestly, I'm just nitpicking. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and paired beautifully with the chimichurri, and all the other dishes were spot on. A5 surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate, which was such a thoughtful touch. Our flight landed earlier than expected, so naturally, we were craving a steakhouse instead of just any random spot that happened to be open late lol. We called ahead to make sure a 10:30 PM walk-in would be okay, and the host eagerly invited us to come by! Miraculously, we found street parking right in front of the restaurant when we arrived. Inside, there were still a few tables finishing up their meals, but we were the last ones to be seated. Our waitress was super friendly, walking us through all the specials, but we decided to go with a fan favorite from the reviews: Mac and cheese croquettes for the appetizer. I'm not sure if it was the hunger talking, but we devoured them in minutes. Fried to golden perfection, but the real star was the pepper jam. It was tangy with just a hint of spice, and it paired perfectly with the cheesy croquettes. For our mains, we ordered the Colorado rack of lamb with bacon and kimchi fried rice. Now, cheese in fried rice isn't something I would expect, and definitely not cotija, but I'm officially a fan. Green onions, cotija cheese, bacon- SMACKED. This classic Asian dish with a twist paired well with the lamb, especially since the lamb was also Asian-inspired, glazed with tamarind chutney and served with saag curry. Was really looking forward to this place, especially seeing that it's in the Michelin Guide. After eating here, I'm honestly not sure how it made it there. First, don't go expecting a nice, quiet romantic dinner because it's an expensive steakhouse; it was loud and sound carries throughout. Second, it's a steakhouse and the steak was extremely mediocre. We got a Tomahawk, and it just tasted like meat; I'm not sure what happened to the seasoning, but I definitely expected a "wow this was good" reaction for the price point when eating it, and it wasn't even close to that. We got their béarnaise sauce, and it definitely needed the sauce (and the sauce was very good). We also had asked if they could do the Tomahawk medium, and were told that was possible. It came almost rare for most of the pieces, so sent back most of it to get re-cooked. Came back mostly low medium rare at that point. If you couldn't do that cut of meat the way we wanted, then we should've been told and we would've ordered something else.Ate a couple of pieces, but honestly I was surprised by how mediocre it was. Do yourself a favor and grill a nice steak at home, or go pretty much anywhere else (several great steakhouses in the area which are better). Only redeeming qualities here were the staff were very nice, and the sides (we got mashed potatoes and a side of asparagus) were good, as well as their take on béarnaise sauce. read more

Food is delicious but we paid over $200 for two people. In my opinion it's overpriced for what you get but kind of understandable due to the location. Would consider coming back but since i don't live in CO I would probably try other new restaurants. but definitely a place to try at least once. read more
