Stop by the Denver chophouse and brewery after a Rockies game today! We luckily made it in for happy hour, which runs Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 PM. Started off with the shrimp cocktail appetizer and it was absolutely delightful! Five nice size shrimp prepared in-house with a delicious cocktail sauce. Next step was the Caesar salad and rounded out our meal with a fillet and baked potato. Everything was phenomenal! The steak was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. The service was equally delightful although I'm not sure how they would do on a busy night. While the bar area was very nice, didn't love the size of the tables... It worked for the two of us however, if there's more it could be tricky, if ordering appetizers with drinks. Overall, great afternoon in a nice walk in the little plaza as well. We tried Denver Chop House on a Sunday with a 6 p.m. reservation. We were seated immediately in a nice corner. The restaurant is located in McGregor Square, with both garage parking and valet parking available. Parking is $12 for the garage and $15 for valet. The interior is decorated in dark wood throughout, with dark ostrich leather seats. There was signed sports memorabilia and a bar area showing the football games. The Broncos game had just ended, so it was pretty quiet at first, but folks wearing Broncos jerseys started making their way into the restaurant. We expected a high-end experience, and for the most part it met the mark. The server was very attentive, and the service was fast. The meal included some cornbread with what appeared to be jalapeño pepper. It was too greasy for my taste. It was semi-sweet but overly oily. However, the pancetta-wrapped shrimp were very good. You get four in an appetizer portion with a caper vinaigrette. I had a garden salad, but a remnant of the outer carrot skin found its way onto my plate along with the julienned carrots. Aside from that, my salad was good. The Caesar salad came with the romaine lettuce leaves still whole, which was an interesting presentation. My dining partner enjoyed the Caesar salad and especially appreciated the authenticity of the anchovy paste in the dressing. The meal was a little disappointing. The prime rib had huge fat caps that likely took up about one-quarter or more of the portion. It was also under-seasoned, but juicy and easy to cut. We ordered the prime rib Oscar-style, which included béarnaise sauce and crab meat. The béarnaise was predictably bland for my taste, but the lump crab meat was good and tasted fresh. I cannot eat a lot of red meat, so I did not complain. I would just note this for future patrons who may want a larger edible portion. Our meal included asparagus, which tasted good but was also slightly under-seasoned. It was crisp and fresh. The highlight of the meal was the dessert. As we were celebrating a social occasion, our server gave us a complimentary dessert. We had the brownie with chocolate ice cream. The ice cream was unique, with a touch of amaretto or maybe Baileys. We went for Opening Day again this year and it was a night and day difference from last year. We were seated right away and our server , Chris, was right on it when we were sat. He suggested some fun cocktails and I went with his suggestion. As our party kept trickling in he was attentive and consistently taking drink and appetizer orders. We got the calamari and spinach dip. Both were awesome. My friend and I had a hard time deciding and knew all of the plates would be too much food so Chris suggested their daily special. It was waygu New York strip with potatoes and a lemon vinaigrette arugula salad. Perfect! Here mid-June, 100% surprised this place holds a 4.3 as of this review on google - it's about 4.2 stars too many. We were a table of 4, restaurant is large and if you enter from the ballpark side you wander through several unoccupied restaurant rooms until you get to the front. I mention this because my experience when only the front room was at 60-70% capacity leads me to believe there is NO WAY they could produce quality items if they were at restaurant capacity. The back rooms were like walking through a dated, mildewy hotel conference room, at an unused Hilton in some rural part of the country - NOT like a chop house next to Coors Field in downtown Denver. AJ was a great server, but the favorable service was overshadowed by the poor-quality food. Both Prime Rib dishes were unconsumable. We tried, as we were being social with friends - but it was too much. One friend ordered the crab cakes, which came 20 minutes after the three of us were served. The crab cakes 'stank'...from three seats down. Almost the entire meal was a disappointment. The martinis were 'ok', and the friend popcorn shrimp - but the rest, no bueno. I cannot recommend this place and would never return - not even for free. Thankfully the manager removed the main dishes from the bill. The prices have changed but not dramatically so that was a pleasant surprise. We had mashed potatoes, veggies, salad, sirloins, prime rib and the mahi mahi sandwich. We had two rounds of drinks and a stack of onion rings to nosh while we waited oh, and some cornbread which is worth the trip all on its own. Everything was cooked perfectly. It was literally the best prime rib cooked to medium I have ever had. It melted in my mouth and was so delicious. We passed on dessert and walked out at about $90 pp. Love this historic building, proximity to the light rail and union station. Everyone road the train in to meet for dinner. They had the best crab cakes I have ever had, the tuna was incredible, and my steak was cooked perfectly. I added the gorgonzola prepared method and it was absolutely amazing. I appreciated the fact that he acknowledged me by name every time we had any interaction. By the time we were ready for dinner, we were escorted to a booth that had been set up for us. They provided us with a complimentary jalapeño corn bread served on a skillet that was quite tasty. We had the seared sashimi tuna as an appetizer. Yummy! My husband had the chicken piccata for his main course. He rated it a 3 out of 5 only because the flavor was a bit bland for him. I had the pan seared sea bass and I absolutely LOVED it!!! The sea bass was cooked PERFECTLY and the lemon beurre blanc caper sauce was beyond DELICIOUS!!! I had a Grey Goose dirty martini with blue cheese olives to accompany my dinner & it was DELISH! When I had made our dinner reservation on Open Table, I had specified that it was for a birthday celebration. Since my husband's birthday was yesterday (May 31) and my birthday is tomorrow (June 2), our server informed us that they would provide us with 2 complimentary desserts for our birthdays. My husband & I didn't have room in our bellies so we had the complimentary desserts boxed up for us to enjoy later in our hotel room. I see you, Denver! We came in from Dallas and I'd reviewed the menu prior... so we popped in on a late Friday afternoon lunch! Omg soooo good and unforgivably we almost had the place to ourselves. It was lunch but I was set on lamb chops... as we waited, the martinis arrived. Giant goat cheese stuffed olives swimming inside. Some of the best dirties we've had out. The wedge was good. I'd honestly just eat the blue cheese and salad dressing... Then we picked out a nice Pinot and waited for the stars to arrive. I did get lucky and get the lamb chops, not on the lunch menu. Served on a pool of chutney and a side of charred carrots. I like my lamb more savory than sweet so I'd ordered a side of chimichurri. The chops were perfect and though the chutney puree was good, it was a little sweet for me. The chimichurri was very good, just a touch spicy with fresh herbs, EVOO and Fresno peppers. The charred carrots also had chimi on them, perfectly paired, sweet carrots and a hint of spice! My hubby's ribeye was great, he got a very herbaceous Gorgonzola topping. The baked potato w white cheddar good. The salad was delicious as well. I still packed up 12 of mine to go, will make a nice late night snack! So what are you waiting for? Go there, get some! The service was great but we did have shareable food out and the waiter took my plates without asking which is a negative. The men's bathroom floor needs to be replaced by the urinals as it was cracked and coming off the wall and floor. The beers were good. The filet was cooked to medium how I asked for it. I was not a fan of the brussels sprouts as a side and the Caprese tater tots didn't wow me either. The only great thing I will say about this restaurant is their cornbread. For the price I paid this place should have wowed me so for those reasons I wouldn't come back. read more

Chris was our server and was amazing! He gave awesome recommendations and was super attentive and friendly! Food was also great, we had 1/2 order onion rings (you can ask for a massive 1/2 order which still was a lot), salads, and crispy calamari for starters. Dinner was a delicious orange marinade salmon (great!) and hubby had prime rib. He said the seasoning on the prime rib was different, but still decent. Desserts looked good but we were stuffed. Everything went well for me when I ate here. Valet was on point and super fast both during drop off and pick up. We arrived for our reservation on-time and were seated right away. Now we have had French soup in France, Italy, Switzerland, Santa Barbara, etc. so we have an idea. Typically in the states and can be extra salty. So we asked and his reply was no not at all. He was wrong. Don't order it here until they figure it out. They had no Lilet for a Vespar cocktail. Our two daughters ordered the steak off of the kids menu. Which was the same steak I ordered on the adult menu. My steak was nice and tender. Their steaks were tough and chewy. So I shared mine with them. So stay away from the kids steaks. We were long time customers until today. In fact, our wedding reception was held here in 2011. We've come back many times over the years to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, etc. with our family. A week ago, I booked a reservation for 10 people for my husband's 50th birthday. I just got a call one week before the event telling us our reservation was cancelled because a company booked out the restaurant. When we responded that this seemed short notice, they responded with "a week is plenty of notice". We will never go back (no need for you pittance offer of a $50 gift card, we easily would have spent $1k). We will find another restaurant to host his special dinner. You only turn 50 once but we will be sure to spread the word. I really enjoyed the tuna -- the miso cream was awesome and I loved the crunch of the slaw coupled with the tuna. The salmon was just fine, nothing all that exciting and I probably wouldn't spend $40+ on it again. At the recommendation of our server, I went with the peanut butter pie for dessert and it was awesome (and enough for 4 people!). Service was pretty good. Had a really nice meal here for New Year's. We sat at a bar table to take advantage of the happy hour (which was really comprehensive and offered a lot of variety). Our table ordered some beer tasters (Kolsch, Porter, Pale Ale, and Senzu - all were nice) as well as some cocktails - Garden Mule & Peach Old Fashioned (all refreshing and well-made). For food, we split the colossal onion rings and the pesto tots. The pesto tots were delicious. They reminded me a bit of a rice ball - smooth and decadent in the inside and crispy on the outside. The French onion soup was so rich and wonderfully cheesy. The broth was just the right amount of salty and had incredible depth. I loved it. My husband and I split the bone-in ribeye and the steak was slightly under the MR we requested, but still VERY good. Our cut looked better than our friends as theirs seemed to have a little more gristle. We got the cheddar mashed potatoes and roasted carrots and added the Worcestershire butter cream to our steak which was the perfect addition. Then our drinks came. Have never had such an awful experience with ordering a drink. Both drinks we had were absolutely horrible. Then our steaks came. Early wedding anniversary, so we had dinner here last night before going to Cirque. We both ordered filets "medium", they came out well done and mine was actually burnt on one side. Server disappeared after dropping off the food and we had to flag her down to let her know about the steaks. We were offered a free dessert (we declined) and they took my wife's steak off of the bill and 50% off of mine since I had started eating it, despite it being overcooked. After the declined dessert, we were abandoned until I finally just put the credit card on the table. In August, a group from ABQ made a day trip to Denver for a Rockies game. Since this was a special occasion, we decided to make a dinner reservation at the Chophouse and Brewery. Even though we were dressed for a baseball game, the staff was very welcoming and did not make us feel underdressed. The ambiance is dark and quiet inside the restaurant, intimate. They have an extensive menu of both food and alcohol. It wasn't easy to choose. We got a SPINACH & ARTICHOKE DIP (GFO) (grilled flatbread, crostinis, celery, carrots, cucumbers) to start, and it was super creamy, with delicious flatbread. I got a Moscow mule for my beverage; it was pretty refreshing--the perfect balance of lime and bitters with the bubbly ginger beer. For dinner, I decided on the NEW ZEALAND LAMB†(GS) (bone-in rack, herb-crusted, peach chipotle chutney) with asparagus. I love lamb, and it is often difficult to get right. I was not disappointed. Tender, juicy, falling off the bone, racks of lamb with this fantastic sweet/spicy chipotle sauce. I was fortunate to try a couple of my friend's steaks; they were melt-in-your-mouth amazing! It's probably the best steak I've ever had. Our server, who my receipt says was Quillen; I'm terrible with names, was terrific. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and patient.
