If you like a modern fusion twist on Mexican food, then the Blue Agave Grill is a must. We had a large group of 10-12 and everything was great from the cocktails to the appetizers to the entrees. Our server took great care of us. The waiter recommended the salmon wontons and wow, this was excellent. Each one was HUGE and I was lucky to grab on when it was fresh! We had a few other appetizers as well and they were all excellent. For my entree, I had the Top Shelf Enchiladas and these were outstanding! They had shrimp and lobster and a delicious creamy sauce on top! The beans were dark and rich (like George Hamilton) and the plain white rice worked well with this dish. If I was in Denver, I'd go to this restaurant again. For a city in the mountains, there are a lot of Mexican options and this one was 5-Stars!
The best thing about this place was the Brussels sprouts! Wow. I was not expecting much as it was pretty empty and not many people were working on a Friday night but those Brussels sprouts and margaritas were amazing. Black and white nachos were also good, and my friend enjoyed her tacos. Our waitress had a great personality, she was also running the bar, and she managed to still provide good service and we didn't have to wait long. Inside was quiet, and clean. Not bad for walking by and deciding to check it out - glad we did.
Lovely and welcoming with delicious (pricy) food! We stopped in after a show nearby. We parked in a parking garage about a block away and walked to the cute and trendy restaurant. Luckily, despite it being a Friday late afternoon, we were able to get a table right away. The staff were friendly and attentive. The decor was classy and lovely. After perusing the menu, I ordered a spicy jalapeño margarita to share with my husband and some chips and salsa. My husband ordered the Tofu-Walnut Enchiladas while I opted for the Santa Fe Salad plus a cup of Poblano-Corn Chowder. Everything was outstanding and the service was on point.
Great margaritas and good food and service. Especially for happy hour I ordered the chicken tacos off the happy hour menu, only $7.

Our waitress was really friendly and helpful to our group making sure we had enough seats for all the friends joining in! The coconut shrimp was fantastic and I would get it again!!!
Pesto carnita tacos are the best item here. It's creative, unique, and absolutely delicious. Fish tacos are a close second. Well-balanced flavors, classic fish taco. NOT battered, which is a huge plus for me. I have to say though, not consistently executed well. 2 times, they were amazing. One time, fish was overcooked... like absolutely hammered. Awful, probably should have sent it back. But we were in a rush by that point. Next best item here is the chorizo corn dip. Simple and tastier than I thought it would be. I wish I could eat the chip bowl it was served in, but it was greasy as hell. All other tacos were below average to bad. Carne asada tacos were not balanced. Meat itself was really good, but the black beans just takes over and muted all the flavors. I am a black bean lover too. The chicken tacos were just awful. And the red carnitas tacos were unremarkable and boring. The tequila selection is disappointing, but I'm comparing it to real tequila and mezcal bars in Denver, the likes of adelitas. The tequila selection here is basic. And the margarita was not great. If you just want to drink, then it gets the job done. Service is inconsistent and slow. Waters were not refilled consistently. Seemed like servers were somehow, at the same time, rushing and lackadaisical. Only reason why they get 4 stars from me is pesto carnitas tacos and fish tacos (on a good day). If these items disappeared from the menu, then it's 2 stars... maybe 3.
Service Food Thank you Nick and your staff for exceptional service and taking care of our team (20) for lunch. Nick was a pleasure to deal with and it was seamless making a group reservation. Our server was amazing as well. The food was great and came out fairly quickly considering how large our group was. The only feedback is that they were out of their delicious tortilla soup and the shrimp skewers weren't cooked that great. Everything else was delicious, with the Blackened Scallops stealing the show!!! OMG
A group of us had dinner here on a Sunday night and it was pretty quiet, but we were still glad we had a reservation since we were a large group. I enjoyed the spicy cucumber margarita; it had just a hint of spice and the frozen cucumbers added a nice touch. They don't skimp on the tequila so one was plenty! I had the al pastor tacos for my entree and they were flavorful and nicely seasoned; portion size was perfect for a not too heavy dinner. We did share some appetizers as well and the tuna was quite good. Service was good and the atmosphere was casual and quiet.
Came here for my friend's birthday. The waitress was great. I ordered the house margarita and they are very generous with the alcohol! (Love that). Ordered Blue Agave Fish Tacos, they were huge. They give you 3, I could only eat 2. The tacos had Marinated Cherry Tomatoes on top, which I am not a cherry tomato fan. But they were amazing! So full of flavor.
Nice decor. Friendly bartender. Cocktails were tasty. Guac lacked flavor & portion was small. The diablo hot sauce was spicy & enjoyable. Clean restroom.

One of the sad things about living on the Kona side of the Big Island is that there are not great Mexican restaurants. This leads us on vacation to look for excellent ones, and we would put Blue Agave in that category. Great location by 16th and Larimer, easy to get to. And we chose to eat inside since it was an unseasonable 85 or so outside. With an opentable res we were quickly seated and greeted by our friendly server Vanessa who gave good advice and we proceeded to enjoy a great sampler of margaritas, a flight of five that was fun to sample. Followed by a tasty salad, and then our main dishes. Were I a local resident I'd be there weekly. Prices were quite reasonable, the ambiance was relaxing and the food helped with our never ending search for quality Mexican food. Mahalo! read more

A standout local business providing good drinks and great food. Outdoor seating is available but in the summer you can't go wrong with the comfortable dining room and bar area. Even at off-lunch time service was prompt and professional. Interesting cocktails abound and margaritas are excellent. At lunch I really recommend the Blue Agave fish tacos--so flavorful and the fish has the right crunch. Served with white rice and black beans--the latter could take much more spice. It's been awhile since we have eaten her and it seems the menu has improved as well as the food. The 16th street mall, Colorado's #1 tourist attraction is in the midst of a massive, much needed, multi year renovation. Blue Agave happens to be on the first section of this project to be completed. The outdoor seating area is easily four times its original size and it's very inviting. Lots of plants and two and four tops that could be configured for 6-12 tops if they were so inclined. The service was great. Seated quickly and no wait. Our server was on top of things and kept us hydrated and the food coming. We started with queso fundido. This is really tasty indeed. Green chilis. Multiple types of cheeses and chips and tortillas to scoop with. Very delicious. We ordered the Santa Fe Cobb and the chicken enchiladas. Both were delicious and made with quality ingredients. The salad was loaded with protein although I don't ask for any. Loved the fresh avocado and boiled eggs. The food is great, service is great and the atmosphere is perfect for a summer evening on the patio. read more

First time dining at a Blue Agave restaurant. The restaurant was spacious and our waitress was friendly except for the manager on the floor. The manager greeted everyone in the other tables except for mine. I felt racially discriminated against since we were the only table that was not Caucasian. The food was ok, taste was mediocre and the enchiladas were suppose to have lobster and shrimp but ONLY had shrimp. I didn't want to question this issue so I let it sly because our waitress was sweet. Won't ever dine at a Blue Agave restaurant again! read more
We went for happy hour and was pretty pumped with the prices! All the food pictured, and 2 margaritas, 1 IPA, and the sangria swirl was $98 total before tip. Food and servers came around rather quickly and were very friendly! Food came out just as we ordered it with no errors! Good experience and not much to not like about it. The carne asada tacos were definitely the best (and 100% what I would get when I go back) Followed by the pork then the shrimp. The nachos were unconventional and nothing to write home about. Visited here as a pre-concert dinner while in Denver. Ordered the nachos with spinach for an appetizer. It wasn't a terrible meal but wasn't necessarily my favorite either, as it felt just thrown together. Originally came in planning to order from the happy hour menu but was quickly intrigued by the skirt steak and enchilada combo meal. I'm so glad I ordered it because it was great. Super flavorful and very filling. The drinks were pretty strong but at a good price for happy hour. Our server was very nice and made a few other recommendations. The restaurant felt semi upscale but also semi casual as well. I liked the atmosphere for sure. Would definitely visit again and maybe try some of the tacos next time. read more

Really enjoyed this place! I had reserved space here for a medium size leadership team during a planning session week while we were in Denver. This place did not disappoint. I ordered the enchiladas and they came with nice portions of rice and black beans. The portion was good and the food itself was really nicely put together....most importantly tasty. Our service staff was friendly and the environment was inviting and was not cramped. The environment bordered on up-scale without feeling overblown. I don't usually order dessert, but I did here which was a Tres Chocolate brownie which was a nice way to top off the meal. Great visit! read more

The food at Blue Agave was good -- dishes were flavorful and well-prepared -- but the service seriously let the experience down. We never received the chips and salsa we ordered, two tequila flights we ordered never arrived, and our water glasses were never refilled. Servers seemed distracted and unresponsive. If they can fix the service and follow through on orders, this place could be much better. read more

We came here before the theatre. Service, while not particularly friendly, was very fast. The warm chorizo corn dip is very tasty. My Mom had the signature asada which she loved. I had the top shelf enchiladas, which have lobster and shrimp (mostly shrimp). The flavor is lovely, but they were a little cold. Also, our dishes arrived right on top of the appetizer, so we ate them together. The plating is gorgeous. Desserts, however, fell flat. I had the peanut butter chocolate mousse, which while a serviceable mousse, had no peanut butter that I could detect. My mom had the toasted coconut blondie, which she said was over cooked and hard, so she didn't finish it. The restaurant itself is very pretty and clean, and was quite busy, so I appreciated that they got us taken care of in time for the play. read more

Stopped here after a basketball game on Saturday night. We got seated and did not have to wait. The waitress assigned to us was amazing answering all the questions we had. Great customer service, making sure we were taken care of. I got chicken taco and it was okay, not alot of flavor in it. Corn chowder soup was good. Beef burrito was okay, too much tomatoes placed on top. For me it was average Mexican food since I have eaten plenty in different cities. read more
Not sure about all great reviews but on a Monday night, I wasn't impressed at all with dinning in. $13 guacamole was not freshly made ( more like what you get at fast food restaurants)and was a small portion. Skirt steak for $35 included a very small pieces of steak with burned crust with beans and rice . The corn pico tasted like can food. Server forgot part of my food and silverware . Didn't bother asking me about type of salad dressing, overall super slow service ( I sat outside). Two star was for pretty outside area. read more
