Even though my husbands lunch was not good the lobster bisque had great flavor but no lobster just a little piece of the claw very disappointed and the waitress said they usually only but 4 pieces in a bowl too bad and a bit pricey considering lack of lobster. My husband had the mussels in white wine sauce very Sandy and the mussel's were not cleaned correctly he ordered bread with it and never got it. I on the other hand had the the bisque and lack of lobster it was disappointed BUT! I had the lamb chops appetizer was very good and meaty you get 4 of them and they were quite yummy. This place is fine. Oysters were fresh and they accommodated my crazy restrictive diet. I just didn't like that the photos show the tables on the sand and when you arrive they are on gravel and the tables are on the middle of what feels like the parking lot. That's not like me however, y'all know that while I can be quite the quiet type I'm usually not going to bite my tongue, instead I shout it from the rooftops! Go sit at the bar for a bite to eat, get some drinks and tip well. Moving onto the menu I was in love again, it all just clicks here at Drift; pretty cocktails, pretty food, and pretty [great] service; the prices too were pretty, pretty heartbreaking, but what's love without a little pain, eh? Do yourself a huge favor and explore the cocktail list to your liking, but I highly recommend that Apple sangria something-or-other; it's as if it was poured by an angel... remember though, it was poured by the devil and it's delicious. You heard me right, Drift 82 has a SALAD that I order over and over again. This isn't any old salad, c'mon you know me, this thing is loaded with crispy fried calamari, perfectly seared tuna, and an Asian dressing to pull it all together with the "bok choy lettuce." I should know by now, that waterfront dining in Patchogue is a bad idea. Going with YELP reviews is also a mistake, since - time after time - places with great reviews tragically fall short. Just like the rest, Drift 82 is expert in their ability to prove that mediocrity seems to garner 4+ star reviews on yelp, as long as you have a good view. First things first - if you're going to serve me a cocktail in a small plastic cup, don't have the audacity to charge me $15 for it. I pay less than that in the best steak houses on Long Island. Being accosted by wasps throughout our meal didn't help either. There is clearly a large nest nearby that someone needs to do something about (we're not talking the odd straggler here, we're talking a LOT of them) "Award winning" seafood chowder was tragically bland, and filled with more potatoes and carrots than seafood. Oysters Rockefeller were very good, however - the only bright spot in a Friday afternoon lunch that continued to go bad at every turn. Fish & Chips were disgraceful. It's clear the fish was previously frozen, and likely not allowed to fully defrost before being battered - evident by the fact that not one tiny bit of batter managed to stick to the fish. The grease oozed out when you broke them in half (ending up with a full fillet in one hand, and an empty batter chunk with big hole in it, in the other. Those were dumped on top of a pile of potato chips that clearly came from a bag. Sautéed "Dream" was more of a nightmare than a dream. I mean - don't name something "dream" if it's going to be disgusting. Warm, but clearly not "Sautéed" chorizo hanging out with shrimp so overcooked you could bounce them off the table and play beer pong with them. Service was polite, friendly, and completely inattentive. So if you want a nice view, but don't really care about the quality of anything - Drift 82 is yet another typical Patchogue "lets see how much we can charge your for our low-end crap because we're on the water and not main street" location. Just say NO (or if you say yes, ensure you lower your expectations accordingly... lower them a LOT). read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp. The restaurant was amazing!!! The setting is beautiful- right on a canal in Patchogue. There were four of us for lunch. We ate outside and there was plenty of distance between the tables . NOW THE FOOD!! It was amazing. I had the sliced steak sandwich. It was as good as it gets. The steak was as good as it gets. The steak was cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and marinated. My husband had ahi tuna wrap and there was lots of tuna - also cooked perfectly. We visited on a Thursday evening during restaurant week. There were a few tables (we were there early). The place is cute right and on the water....must be packed during the summer. Our server, Caitlin greeted us and took our drink order promptly. She was very helpful with suggestions from the many menu items. We enjoyed the wedge salad, steak tidbits and shrimp cocktail for appetizers. (One in our part chose the restaurant week menu and had the salad). All of the appetizers were delicious and shareable. The shrimp were huge and cooked properly with a snap. For our entrees we chose the scallops, tuna and strip steak. The scallops with risotto were outstanding (a suggestion from Caitlin). The whole tome we were eating we were accompanied by bunch of flies trying to land on our food. Good thing because the food was trash and flies loves trash! To potential customers, The vibe and scenery is nice for a summer day. Not every outdoor table has the needed shade to enjoy. The biggest issue overall with this place is the service. Just takes too long. The first set of drinks took 15 mins after seating, appetizer 30-35, main course 40+. They need more staff to properly run this Resturant and the manager who was never scene doesn't properly address this main issue. Rarely have I completed a meal and had been shockingly surprised the way I was having dined at Drift 82 last night. From the very first bite of perfect cooked and well seasoned calamari, I knew this was going a different experience. Absolutely perfect is the only way to describe this calamari. The server then presented the daily specials where I skeptically opted for the seafood risotto. The server mentioned a combination of clams, mussels, shrimp and calamari cooked in a shrimp stock. Having experience in the kitchen myself, I knew these proteins cook at different intervals, along with the slow methodical way of cooking risotto, this would be a difficult dish to cook properly. Having just tasted the amazing calamari, gave me the confidence to order this complicated dish. The plates came out all looking amazing but I reserved judgement until I tasted mine. The first bite I had of the perfectly cooked risotto blew my mind with flavor but I was still nervous about the proteins being rubbery or under cooked. First bite into the calamari and I had to put my fork down to enjoy this spot on execution the dish. The same can be said for the shrimp, mussels and clams. My sister, who ordered the award winning seafood bisque, then pulls out and entire lobster clam to display on her spoon. Her comment was, "I think there is plenty of lobster in the bisque!". From the server, to the runner, to the busers constantly filling our water glasses the service was excellent and always attentive. While dining at other places, unfortunately too many times, I've paid for mediocre food and service. Given the scarcity of labor and increased cost of goods for restaurant owners, this has understandably become a norm in the food service industry. At Drift 82 when the bill finally came, this was a rare occasions while paying that I truly felt I got superb quality and outstanding value for my money. We came to Drift 82 after receiving multiple recommendations from friends saying how great it was and they were 100% correct. Been here 100 times for drinks, it's a great spot when the weather is nice because they have a great little bar outside, it has boat access on the Patchogue River, but I had never ate there. Thankfully my buddies said let's swing by Drift for lunch on a Sunday because I have a new spot on the list! The inside is gorgeous, very clean, higher scale feeling for Patchogue and again, it's on the water. My only complaint is how long it took for me to get food, simply because it took me 30 minutes to order because I was drooling over everything on the menu. Serving frozen seafood and charging catch of the day type prices just won't bring back repeat customers. The Sea Bass was very tough and chewy. Felt like a defrosted piece of shark meat. The Calamari was all brittle batter with peppers. The safe bets appeared to be their burgers, salads, and possibly the fried shrimp. The food arriving at some of the other tables other than the 3 items mentioned a second ago, all seemed to be subpar as well. We enjoyed our time there, just didn't enjoy the meal. Our family of 7 got in right away on a busy Saturday night. We sat inside right by an open window which was perfect for us. Atmosphere was loud which is needed when dining with our 2 year old. Food was a little wait but totally expected given how many customers there were. Waitress was fabulous and very attentive. Everyone's food was delicious, I was trying bites off of everyone's plates. Came here with some family had a great time. The staff was great, loved the bartender. Food not so much. I tried the lobster bisque, it was subpar. The flavor was basic and it lacked chunks of meat. My lobster bisque puts theirs to shame. I tried the Oysters Rockafella and they were OK. Their coconut shrimp were probably the blandest I have ever eaten. I enjoy the frozen kind at the supermarket far more than these. My cousin ordered the Marinated steak tips. I was jealous because these were delicious. Where the Patchogue River meets the Great South Bay .... you'll find Drift 82, a five-year-old restaurant that is casual, quaint, friendly and all the wood resembles driftwood!  We went for lunch on a chilly, gray day, well before the busy summer season and found we had the place and the staff to ourselves. We sat at the bar chatting with Robert, the bartender. We'd been so taken with Drift's appetizer menu, we decided to focus on a medley of apps for our lunch today. We started with oysters, raw and Rockefeller, and both were good. This was followed by the Marinated Steak Tidbits, one of their signature dishes, which we shared and devoured - loved that marinade! Chicken Wings are always a fair choice and they were again. And, Robert said we could take-out food too, so we ordered a Beef Carpaccio and the Shrimp & Lobster Wontons to-go.  Oh I forgot to mention our delicious cocktails - 2 Margaritas straight-up with salt. They have a very original list of specialty drinks too, that varies with the season.  The restaurant is a bit out of the way but you can't miss their large white tent, which allowed them to double their business during COVID. We used to Love this place until today. Fathers Day was not busy.... So no excuses. We had a 4PM reservation for 4. By 5 PM we FINALLY GOT our appetizers. No taste to the the Clams Casino and Cocktail Sauce for the raw clams was a Shot Glass full. 45 minutes later the Entrees arrived. Equally as bland. Sea Scallops, Sea Bass, Lobster Ravioli and Penne w/Chicken. I can see what has happened. Now that the owner and Previous Chef have opened a 2nd. restaurant, CHOP, this place has gone to hell!
