I had the "JUMBO" baked shrimp I don't know what bag of frozen shrimp you are looking at but these were Medium sized shrimp butterflied, $28 bucks for 8 little shrimp I feel like a sucker. Hello again, yesterday visited Drift...we were there for a private event. Approximately 50 or so guests. We were inside thank God, it was a hot day. When we arrived we met "Fred" who we later learned is the manager. He greeted us with a friendly hello and fist bump. The place looked great! The tables were dressed perfectly. Everything looked new, glasses, dishes, silverware...all looked so nice. The place seemed spotless. Fred's staff appeared the same. They acted professional, friendly, willing to attend to our every need. As the event rolled on, the buffet was opened to all with a mix of breakfast and lunch items. It again, looked wonderful and delicious. It was! Now, there's no BUT coming in this posting. I feel it's important to offer praise when its deserved. We've been to drift once before and were a little turned off to the place. Fred can come off a little "curt" in his way so we left saying we may not return. Yesterday, Fred washed that away. This guy busted his ass all day, not just with our party, but with all this patrons inside and out....Fred was everywhere. And because he was, the place, the staff the day was great. Might be our new "go to" spot for great food! We always loved "On the Waterfront." It was a heartbreak when hurricane Sandy caused it's demise. When it re-opened as Drift 82 we went for lunch and liked it. Nice renovation job! Decided to celebrate a friends birthday last night (2/10/18) and everyone really enjoyed the food! Very friendly attentive staff. Started with their delicious seafood chowder and lobster bisque. Our friends said "I've never had to use a knife and fork to cut lobster pieces in a bisque before!" Both soups were delicious. The chowder was a little heavy on the potatoes, but all in all, lots of seafood in it. We had the Lobster Mac and Cheese that actually had lobster claws in it! I had the scallops and asparagus risotto. I was surprised to receive 7 scallops! They were cooked perfectly! Delicious! Our friends chose 2 appetizers as their dinner and could not finish all the food! The portions are generous! I hope Drift 82 doesn't change a thing! I have made a second trip to Drift and my experience was even better than the first one. Food as good as first visit, another great waitress(kudos Allie), and more assistance on menu items by Joe, the Manager of the Drift have made me raise my review to 4 stars...First the positive.. the staff is everybit as good as previous reviews stated. The bartenders were friendly and efficient- bar prices seemed very fair...The Manager??(Joe) could not have been nicer- my date doesn't like fish and since the menu is not online yet, we were disappointed to see very few non fish items(-.5 star)No sandwiches or burgers avail on dinner menu... not even a Lobster Roll! Joe was terrific- he actually arranged to have their chef make a burger for my date... ironically she found a pasta with chicken dish she absolutely loved! Our waitress Jenny was excellent- great personality- very professional- and very helpful. I had the Seafood chowder-could've used a bit more seafood- but it was very light and tasty-then the TNT salad with fresh tuna and calamari- which was also very good, my mistake not seeing the dressing had Ginger- not a big fan of that.. but it was a big portion! Other good things, tonite(Sunday) they had a live Reggae band and they were very good - they have a good selection of beers on tap ..the decor is very lively and beachy..good location.. good potential for this restaurant to be "the place" in Patchogue.. they are also getting a Tiki bar ready which will over look the bay. Now the negatives.. Valet Parking(-.5 star)a pet peeve with me- especially in a park lot this small..any place you park is less than 100 feet from the front door - my car was 20feet away from the door .. another negative is the limited menu and the high prices- but you are on the water...all in all- there is huge potential here, Joe did say they were working on increasing menu choices including non fish items, if they limit(to just bad weather) or remove the Valet Parking-it would bring this place close to a 5star restaurant in my opinion.... Went tonight to hear Eric McCormack sing. Thought we'd check it out. Went here before it was drift 82 for lunch and walked out. We enjoyed two fer drinks and the bar menu. Beautiful night. I'm a foodie and this place meets my expectations for great food and service. However... the noise level is horrific and makes the entire experience painful. The interior and ambiance is very nice and it's obvious the owners, who I understand also own the Village Idiot Pub, may in fact be idiots themselves for not fixing the noise issue. Come on guys - we love your restaurant but you gotta do something about the noise. When dinner costs over $50 bucks a person, we should not have to scream at each other just to be heard. Service was good, but tiny portions. Got a Cobb Salad and added scallops, and only got 2 scallops...Appetizer, same thing. Spicy shrimp hushpuppies which were ehh. We split it but it only came with 3. Parking is limited and valet. Nice atmosphere and view on the Patchogue River. Was super excited to eat here and was unfortunately very disappointed with my experience. First and for most it took close to 25 mins for my 5 year old nephew to get his Mac N cheese.. not to mention during this time I mentioned it was his bday the next day thinking the waitress would bring him a dessert and sing Happy Birthday..never happened! When the food did finally come it was super hot and took a few minutes to cool down. Fresh Maine lobster, local craft beers, huge juicy ribeye steaks - all at great prices. My fiancé, two of our friends and myself were trying out Drift 82 for the first time, made reservations for 9:30pm, everything was going fine, minus the over priced average food, until the check came. We asked the server to split the check in half with two credit cards, and she had no problem to do so. We signed the checks, no problem. The next day my fiancé checked his bank statement to see that Drift 82 double charged his card, so we called and asked to speak to a manager and explain what happened. He took our information down, blamed it on the bank and said he will look into it and call us back tomorrow. The next day came and went with no call as well as the day after, so my fiancé proceeded to call him back and the manager said that he was too busy to call us back and it was his fault that the card was double charged and to come in the next day at noon for the money back. So my fiancé went down at noon to meet with the manager who was in another meeting and made him wait awhile. Then the manager, Fred, came over to him to talk, during this time there was other tables in the restaurant eating lunch and Fred was being very unprofessional and disturbing with his female staff. Then showed my fiancé the signed checks, where my fiancé shows him that the one check was not his signature and that he is not paying for Fred's mistake. Fred then proceeds to tell him that karma is going to come back around to him. I don't know where this man has the nerve to say that karma is coming back to us when it was his fault and didn't even have the decency to call us back. Needless to say I will not be returning to Drift 82 for overpriced average food ran by Fred. read more

OK, so here it is; The place is basically the same shell as OnThe Waterfront, but it ends there! The outside, as well as the inside has been totally redone. Nice and bright and airy. The staff couldn't do enough for us. There is a valet (free, except for tip) outside. My water glass was never more than 1/2 empty. The bread came out immediately, as did the waitress. I got a glass of wine, very nice house Pinot Noir. Appies were average. The coconut shrimp were good, but not like Georges. Don't bother with the "Balls of Fire" (So-so hush puppies with remoulade sauce). I had the Broiled Mahi-Mahi as the main, excellent! Topped with a mango salsa over a bed of risotto. My wife had Pan-Seared Scallops over Risotto. There were six very large ones, perfectly cooked (she let me have two!). We shared a chocolate Bundt Cake topped with vanilla ice cream. Very nice. There was a duet singing on the bar side, very tasteful.Prices are not cheap, but not bank breaking either. $115 for the two of us, plus tip. All in all, a very good experience. I will go back to try more of the menu. read more

I'm not one to write bad reviews, or any reviews for that matter, but we had such a bad experience yesterday that it needs to be shared. My boyfriend called and made a reservation for 12 of us and we were told it was no problem at all and that they had a spot outside for us. When we got there at the time of our reservation, they sat us at different tables inside the restaurant (6 at each table). If we weren't going to get to all sit together, we wouldn't have eaten there in the first place. So that was the first bad thing. Then, our service was so awful. It took at least 45 minutes to even order our food. And since we weren't sitting with the rest of our family, they ordered their food before us and were finished before us. When we finally ordered, we ordered 2 appetizers (shrimp/lobster wontons and the mussels) and our meals. When our waiter, Anthony, came with our apps, he put down the wontons and clams oreganata. We told him we didn't order those and that we ordered the mussels. He proceeded to take the clams away and then brought them back and said "these are on me, your mussels will be right out." We happily ate them and although the service was terrible, the food was delicious (one good thing about our experience). Also, during the majority of the meal, we had a dragonfly hanging out on the window right next to our table. We asked multiple times for them to open the window for us to let it out, but they wouldn't do it. I understand it's a harmless bug, but I'd rather not be staring at a bug while I'm eating. It finally flew away after being there for over an hour. When we were finished eating, we paid the bill. I guess we didn't thoroughly read through it because we just wanted to get out of there by that point. But, when we got home, we were going through the bill to determine who owed what and we noticed that the order of clam oreganata was in fact not taken off our bill and we were charged for them. We did not order those, so we should not have had to pay for them. We would have sent them back if Anthony did not say they were "on him." This was an overall terrible experience and I highly doubt any of us will be going back there ever again. read more

After reading all the rave reviews, my husband and I were really looking forward to a great dining experience. We went for an early dinner and upon arriving were greeted warmly into a new clean casual nautical themed restaurant. After a few minutes our server came over to take our drink order. Me: "I'll have a pinot grigio". Server:" The house? ". Me:"What is it?".Her:"I don't know ". Me: "Could you please check ?".Her:"Didn't you get a wine menu?", as she's checking our table hoping to find it. After determining that we didn't I thought she would have gone to get one, but she just shrugged and told me of the 2 wines that she knew of but couldn't tell me anything about them. So I just asked her to please bring me one. Ok, so I chose the Mezzacorona, which I enjoyed. Ok, at this point we're very confused. The decor is casual, the reggae music extremely loud and the service unprofessional, but the menu very upscale and pricey. I ordered the Dover sole muniere, which was deboned tableside, but needed salt and pepper. Upon ordering, though, I asked what side if any it came with and I was told none. I then ordered a baked potato for $7 to accompany my fish. However, my fish was being served to me with a nice portion of fresh asparagus, so I cancelled the potato. My husband's scallops and risotto was perfect. I think we're done with Drift 82. I would suggest they change the menu and lower the prices to reflect the casualness of the restaurant. read more

On Friday 1/26/18, my friend and I visited Drift 82 for her belated birthday dinner and restaurant week. I had seen the advertisement for this restaurant while visiting the Village Idiot in Oakdale ( I love it there). We arrived around 730 or so and the wait was told to be 15 mins so we sat at the bar, it was more like 25 mins but stuff like that doesn't bother me or grant me to give a bad review. We sat and enjoyed some wine which was very good until Fred came over to get us. We sat down and were greeted by a waiter ( I don't remember his name but he was a 10 on a scale of 1-5), he grabbed us some more wine and was very friendly. He was attentive at all times and saw a were ready to order, I ordered the clams oreganata, peppercorn crusted steak and cheesecake and my friend ordered the caprese salad, Brightwood chicken and cheesecake. Everything was on point!! I love steak and that steak was better than many high end steak houses I've been to. From the food to the service, it was a 10. Fred was also friendly, he stopped by several times to check on us and talk. Our waiter was beyond great, I just wish I could recall his name. I can't wait to go back again especially in the summer. The owners most definitely know how to run successful businesses because even at the Viip in Oakdale, the employees are so attentive and kind. read more
