We come here periodically, but lately more for takeout. We enjoy the Daisy Fried Rice (in Tom Yum flavor). Just yesterday, we ordered Mango Sticky Rice to go. The mango was very sweet. Today we dined in for lunch. I had their special, Khao Soi, for a second time. You cannot choose the protein. It came with a chicken leg, and the chicken was too salty. This noodle dish should have more broth. Hubby had the Chicken Satay lunch special. To our surprise, there was no skewer. Instead, you get 2 slabs of chicken breast. If you like chicken breast, it's not a bad deal. Don't get me wrong. The flavor for both dishes is pretty good. My husband loves the pork pad-see-ew and I'm in love with their red curry with shrimp. Each entree is easily two meals in itself. The restaurant ambience is cute and the capacity is around 20 people. The food quality was good. The veg skillet had minimal sauce for taste, so tasted a bit bland. The food is fresh & delicious, the service is fast & I've always had a great experience here. I've taken dates, friends for lunch & large groups for dinner & it's been a hit every time. I've had Daisy Mint bookmarked for a while. While thinking of where to grab dinner on a Thursday night it came up on my list so my fiance and I decided to check it out. Such a good decision!!! We were able to easily find street parking on one of the side streets. It's very easy to miss Daisy Mint since its off of Colorado in a bit of a random area. Luckily when we got in, we were able to be seated right away at the single open table. I imagine this place gets pretty packed on the weekends - even on a random weekday, it was busy the whole time we were there! Daisy Mint has a charming ambience. There is exposed brick, a chalkboard wall, and multiple pieces of art. It definitely doesn't give off the same vibe that you'd usually get from a Thai restaurant. The space is relatively small so it is better suited for smaller groups - it's a great spot for a date or to meet a friend. We ordered summer rolls, pad thai, and crying tiger to share. The crying tiger was so good. The dipping sauce that the beef comes with is delicious. The meat was full of flavor and the dipping sauce complimented it with a bit of a tangy/sweet kick. Yum! Was in Pasadena and decided to try this place. I've been to Abricott and apparently it's by the same owners. My friend and I split a green curry and pad see ew which was super tasty, pretty standard. Green curry was also decent. My other friend ordered the coconut chicken soup, which was super creamy and basically tasted like a curry but less savory and more coconut milk - less to my liking, I probably wouldn't I'd order this. Hmmm, not your everyday small mom-and-pop Thai restaurant. The interior is befitting of what could easily be taken as a tea room, you know, that British style afternoon tea time type of feel. The décor, wall ornaments, and chandeliers aren't typically what come to mind when you think of Thai food. But this is what gives this little restaurant its charm, it's quite dainty - albeit, the absence of bamboo plants and gold-plated figures didn't bother me. Initially, I was skeptical, not gonna lie. I sat and thought "What the hell? I hope the choice on the décor doesn't mean this Thai food is about to be whack!" I trusted the reviews though, plus I had it bookmarked for the longest. In addition, after a failed attempt at getting ramen in the nicer side of Pasadena, I was under a mad craving for something with an Asian flare. Though this is located on the not so pleasant side of town, it was after all Asian, and it looked to have the potential to settle my craving. So the food - ah yes, the food. To start we ordered egg rolls and an "Indian roti". The egg rolls were tasty, cooked to a crispy perfection, and stuffed with the usual fixings with the addition of glass noodles; which was a first for me. Now the roti, that was an interesting item. It appeared to be more like a fried croissant than a Indian roti, as it was flaky and oily. Included in the order is a small bowl of their chicken curry broth. So the way you eat this roti, is by either dipping or smothering it with the curry. Though messy, this dish was delicious. It was a good start to our meal with these two dishes. Our main entrées consisted of their Daisy Noodles and Garlic String Bean, both of which we requested with chicken. The noodles are a very similar take on Pad Thai, with the minor difference being the inclusion of red curry and crispy onions. As for the garlic string bean chicken, that's exactly like what other restaurants call a Pad Prik King - one of my favorites - and one we always request spicy. Begrudgingly, I regret to inform that the spice level was mediocre but the dish was great. The string beans were large, plump, with just the right snap. Plus the chicken used was of good quality, which isn't a custom at all Thai or even other Asian restaurants for that matter. These two platters had just the right flavors I was looking for. I still don't understand the choice on the interior design, but with food that good they can create whatever feel they want. In terms of rank, I've placed it up their with my favorite Thai place - as a tie for the one spot, no pun intended - which isn't in Thai Town by the way. However, they gotta hook it up with the egg roll serving. Just two small rolls per dish? Basically at $4, might as well make it three for $5. As much as I appreciated it, I can't say I'd go out of my way for Daisy Mint. Given the right situation though, I would gladly drop in for tea - I mean a meal. I had to approach and ask where I could sit, they took a while to come take my order and never checked to see if everything was ok. I ordered the yellow chicken curry lunch speacial. (I'll admit the first bite of the Roti has a super satisfactory crisp, until the oil oozes out from the dough and then you realize you have a tablespoon of grease in your mouth...) There are a ton of yelp reviews for this spot so I was pretty surprised that we were so disappointed by what we ordered. Did we order the wrong thing? It's is much more complex in flavor, their rice noodles are soft and the veggies are nice and crunchy. The Daisy Wings are good too! Deep fried and smothered in a sweet hot sour sauce reminiscent of bbq sauce but not. And the special called Crying Tiger with sticky rice had tender thinly cut marinated flank steak served with a thin sauce on the side that was a little vinegary, a little citrusy, and a little sweet. There is no sense of fusion or creative matching, but merely very bland and uninspired mockery of original Thai food. This restaurant is an insult to Thailand and USA. We get food from daisy mint almost weekly either on door dash or directly as take out. The drunken noodles is our absolute favorite. I also love the catfish salad but the portion size is never consistent or they occasionally forget an ingredient (cashew, apple, etc). I have been disappointed by other restaurants recipes Why? Because, It all comes down to the sauce and ingredients. You have to get the sauce right! Boy I loved that they used traditionally Sen Yai, which are wide, thin fresh rice noodles and just delicious. They also use Chinese Broccoli, otherwise known as Gai Lan or Kai lan. It's leafy and looks quite different to broccoli, but you'll notice a similarity in the texture of the stems. It is so good that, I use it to cook in my own home. You can get chicken or pork and being the fattie I am, I get pork JA! All the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The mixed egg, garlic, onion, and bean sprouts and the charbroiled taste of the sauce is top notch. OVERALL- The service was good, restaurant was clean, and the food was incredible.. Live this little place. Atmosphere is chic and eclectic. Mirrors on every wall mismatch furniture give you a sense of playfulness. Dinner area inside is not very big and can get a little loud when they have a full house. They do have a small patio area in the back, never used that area always sat inside. Love the food. The traditional Thai food like pad Thai noodles are always good but I enjoy the garlic green beans, honey pork, pineapple fried rice, coconut milk soup with chicken, any of the curries are delicious.
