Don't let the appearance of Computer Medic's web site mislead you. The web site makes this place look slick and urban. In fact, this location is a mess with multiple dogs lounging around amidst mind-boggling stacks of computer wreckage and clutter. I mention this because Computer Medic's business is every bit as disarrayed as its storefront. These people are kind and capable, but they could not be more disorganized if they tried. It was not without a certain measure of apprehension that I decided to add my computer to their electronic chaos. However, Scott seemed willing to listen to me and the computer was old anyway, so I threw caution to the wind and left my machine in his care. We agreed that a week should suffice to get a diagnosis. A week passed with no news, so I called and asked for a status report. Scott said that he was "pretty sure" that it was ready (he gave no explanation of why they never called me with this news), but he wanted to check the paperwork. I waited on hold for about 10 minutes while Scott tried in vain to find any documentation of the work. He promised that he would "drop what he was doing" to make sure that my computer was fixed and would call me back. Surprisingly, he called back within about half an hour and reported what the problem was and that my computer was ready to pick up. I hasten to note that he did in fact fix the problem and charged me a very reasonable fee for doing so. Admittedly, the problem was minor and did not require in-depth knowledge, but kudos to Scott for properly diagnosing and fixing my machine for a fair price. However, Computer Medic's lack of organizational skills resurfaced when I tried to pick up my computer. The computer was in plain view, but Scott was gone and there was no paperwork documenting what was done or what the charges were. A phone call to Scott was necessary to determine the charges. I never did receive any paperwork documenting what had been done or even that they had worked on my machine. When I got home, I discovered that the 2 special screws that secure the chassis top to the back had been left off. When I called to report this, it was clear that Scott deemed this a minor problem that I would have to fix. Initially, he expressed doubts that he could lay his hands on those exact parts that he had taken off my computer (no surprise really, considering the chaos within those 4 walls.) Later, Scott called and proclaimed that he had found my screws and would put them aside in an envelope with my name on them so that I could pick them up. I wasn't especially happy about having to do the legwork to correct their error, but neither did I have any confidence in them to mail or deliver them to me. So, a couple of days later I drove back to Computer Medic to pick up the screws. Were they put aside in an envelope with my name on them as promised? Of course not! That is what an organized operation would have done. After several minutes of rummaging, the person on duty managed to find a rather large unlabeled glass jar that was perhaps one-third full of these knurled screws. Apparently, this was not the first (nor likely the last) time they had released a computer without replacing these parts. Happily, when I brought home a pair of these orphaned screws, they fit just fine and, nearly two weeks later, my dealings with Computer Medic were finalized. The people at Computer Medic seem to be knowledgeable, honest, and basically competent when it comes to fixing computers. However, they seem to lack any understanding of the most basic precepts of running a business. If this is not a problem for you, you will probably love their down-to-earth approach to computer repair. However, if you expect timely status reports, written receipts, and similar attention to detail, you might consider looking elsewhere. read more

I found Computer Medic on Yelp and they are now my "go to" for anything computer related! Their location and hours are very convenient and staff were super friendly, approachable and helpful. Trusting an unknown person with my computer was a bit unnerving but they made me feel at ease right away. Great place. Pretty simple for a review, but it really is. I have a laptop that the charger was no longer charging it. I had just gotten the charger due to a previous one breaking. I had noticed if you wiggled it around it would charge but over time it just quit. So I did what most do, I googled a solution. Almost all said that I probably had broke the connection in the laptop by wiggling it around. So since I don't solder, I started calling around. Best buy, fry's, mr notebook and a few others all agreed over the phone and all quoted $179-$185 to fix it. Last on my list was computer medic, reviews were good, close to house, So i called. Told my story and asked how much to fix. But instead of quoting a price he asked me a few questions, what brand, how old, etc. Which led him to tell me it's not the connection, it's not even soldered to the board, so it can't break. Most likely the charging unit itself, bring it by and we'll check it. So I did about a week later and sure enough that's all it was. And instead of charging 100 bucks, he said swap chargers and give me 10 bucks. So he ended up saving me at least 170 by just asking a few questions and then doing a great deal. I've always been able to deal with computer problems by myself, but this time when my desktop pc wouldn't start, no matter what solution I tried, I knew I had to take it somewhere to get it repaired. I chose Computer Medic based on the few reviews here and also the location. I don't have experience with other computer places, but Scott was really nice and he fixed the problem. I'm taking 1 star off though because it took a week to get my computer back, a lot longer than I think it should've taken (although there's really no way to tell how long another shop would've taken). The labor ended up costing $100, but like he said, this problem was quite the headache to solve. Ultimately, I have to thank him for fixing my computer when I couldn't. read more

Computer Medic provided me with terrible customer service. They couldn't fix the problem, which happens, and I don't fault their effort. But they missed every deadline, never proactively called me with an update, argued with me, hung up on me, and finally gave me back my laptop a month later, worse for the wear. The crew here were very helpful and offered their services at a very fair price. Alvin, in particular, was thorough in searching for a computer which matched the specs needed for my job. Additionally, he held a workstation for me in case the search did not turn out as expected. And this is all as he was undergoing a personal tragedy. He performed work on a machine, adding RAM among other things for a great price and the machine works much better than advertised. Another visit yielded an awesome clean-up/performance improvement of my old lap top in a very timely manner. The level of service provided then was much higher than what was billed. For some instances, I would suggest that you as a patron be patient with the staff. They are busy going beyond the call to provide you & everyone else the best service possible. This morning my laptop decided it was not going to turn on. Utter panic was about to set in because I was in a serious time crunch. At first I had hopes that it would be nothing serious but knew that the computer E.R.was going to get a visit. Scott knew right away that my laptop was terminal and not fixable. In less than six hours, he pulled the hard drive out and transplanted it into a compatible replacement machine. Once I got it home, he was also able to give me some tech support. We had Scott go by an employees house because of her complaints about internet connections. In the time he spent there, he couldn't resolve the problem & he left without fixing anything. I personally went to check on the laptop, & the problem was resolved by plugging in an Ethernet cord to the laptop, because the Time Warner router was having WiFi consistency issues. If that problem was over his head, I wouldn't trust him to work on any of our PCs. read more

So you aren't suppose to keep important documents on one hard drive for years (about 10, is a no no). I knew this and still did =(. The inevitable happened, my hard drive stopped working. Looked online for solutions, none seemed to be working for me so onto yelp I went. Found this place and emailed the business. After a few back and forth took my hard drive to computer medic and met Scott, along with the 3 dogs who work there =). Signed some paper work left my hard drive and hoped he could fix my problem. Waited a few days because the paper I signed said it would take about 5 days and received a call from Scott saying he was able to extract my documents and placed them on my other hard drive so I can take it home to make a back up copy. The pricing was amazing and worth paying to get all my precious pictures and memories back. If ever I have another issue, I'll be returning. =) read more

The company / workers were very polite but very disorganized. I dropped my computer off on Wednesday 3/7/18, let them know I was having issues with chrome not working properly, believed to be caused by some malware. I let them know I had done a system restore but to no avail and that I was okay if they just wiped the whole drive. I called on the 9th because I was not given a timetable and whoever I spoke with on the phone, informed me, obviously they would not complete the work in 2 days, I told him I understood, I just wanted a timetable so I could plan when I would be back in that area. I was told the next 3-4 days. I received a call yesterday, 3/12, that my computer was ready for pick up. I showed up to the store at 10:00 (opening) and waited until 10:05 for someone to show up and open the store. This individual let me know that Scott was out of town. There was no invoice for my computer and the individual did not know how to run a credit card so I helped him charge my card for $80. He called Scott to verify the price / work done because we realized we had looked at the wrong computer / sticky note. Scott verified the 80$ and said that he forgot to write an invoice. I felt confident in Scott's work due to multiple reviews on here. I drove home, booted my computer up, and google chrome has been uninstalled. I am not sure what work was done, hopefully more than uninstalling google chrome. read more

Scott rescued me for the second time in 9 months yesterday. The first time, I somehow dislodged the screen connector. He got right to it, calmed me down by showing me that everything was okay, just the screen wasn't coming on. Working into the evening, he fixed me up and sent me on my way. With a warning that the fan system on this laptop isn't well-designed and I shouldn't rely too heavily on it. So, when my butter fingers allowed my laptop to slide 5-6" to the floor, and the screen was clearly broken, I didn't hesitate to call Scott and get it over to him. Sadly, it wasn't just the screen, but the hard drive wouldn't spin up. He delivered the bad news gently and started lining things up to get me back up and running. If he can work miracles, he will. All is takes is patience and being polite. By noon the next day, I had a new hard drive, with Windows already installed along with a browser and enough drivers for me to reinstall software from CD get online to download everything else I needed. He really went above and beyond, knowing how critical it was to get my system back. I can't say enough nice things about his willingness to help. I'm sure there are times when he can't turn a system around quickly but from my experience, he does everything in his power to work magic. He stayed late working on my system both times I took it to him. How many techs will do that? He was also very patient with my freak-out over what I might have lost between the last backup and the hard drive crash. It's not easy to tell someone their hard drive is gone and there is no way to get anything off of it. He eased the pain of having to replace not only the screen but also the hard drive by NOT gouging me on the price. And gracefully accepted the inevitable wrinkles that cause installations to take twice as long - like the info going into the wrong profile in Windows, for example. And didn't add a dime to the price he quoted. That's good customer service. And that's why I'll keep going back. Thanks guys! read more

Computer Medic hands down is the best place to go for computer repair. Scott is a real class act, he really helped me out of a bad situation. I took my computer in because of some issues with loading software on to it. Scott and his staff did a great job at figuring out the problem and keeping me informed of their progress. What I like about computer medic is that Scott gives you options and he truly cares about his customers. He takes the time to explain to you what went wrong, how it can be repaired and then when you pick up your computer he tells you what they did, in great detail. Very fast! And great service, sort of. When I picked up my laptop, I learned my anti-virus software had been uninstalled, and they reactivated a MS Windows product. Their explanation made perfect sense and I agreed with their reasoning, but they failed to run this by me before they did it. Also, as I just discovered at 10am Sun 10/4, they also uninstalled a basic photo editing program I love. This was particularly aggravating, because I was going to use that program to put together the slideshow for a party in Dallas tonight, for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. How can you make changes like this without running them by your customers first? read more

I took my son's computer into the shop and Scott told me straight up what the problem would most likely be (power source) and what kind of cost I could expect.
