I came here based on the high recommendations on Yelp and elsewhere, and wasn't disappointed. Mark and Lance love what they do, and judging by the number of computers stacked up in their workspace, they're quite popular. Mark let me know it might be a couple of weeks before they could get to my data transfer on the old computers I was needing to clear out, which wasn't a problem. But I was happily surprised when he called me a couple of days later to let me know that it was done! Everything was done correctly and they even wiped and recycled my old computers for me. Yay! They do a lot more challenging work, like eradicating viruses and malware, and repairing and replacing components. I suggest you call ahead and plan to leave your computer there, since they are a small shop and keep very busy. They're now my go-to computer wizards, and I'm sure they're working their magic for many other Austin residents as well. Finding the building is a little tricky since signage is minimal. I had an old external hard drive that I couldn't access and a MacBook Pro that was wildly slow - like open the web browser, go watch a movie and hope a webpage will be loaded when it's over slow. Lance was able to transfer my hard drive to a new one and replaced my laptop hard drive and it's like I live in the future - or at least the present! Wherever I am, I'm happy! Due to some staff issues, Covid has affected every small biz, turn around time was slow, but we communicated and it all worked out wonderfully. Lance provides outstanding service, knowledge and friendliness. He repaired our Dell 2-in-1 Insprion 7000 and even did some research on an issue where it kept running hot...ended up helping us change BIOS settings that will greatly extend the life of the PC as well as the 2 others we have like it @ home. He's friendly, funny and on-point. Hell, I like him even though he roots for the Green Bay Packers (and that says a lot coming from a Lions fan). My PC tower went wacko. I may have helped make more issues when i tried to fix the original problems. I bought it in to Lance for a checkup. Reading him a list of issues & how they started, he also thought there could be an issue with my keyboard. he kept the tower for a week. This is in the time frame he mentioned to me. This was to rejigger the settings which I'd messed with when the tower started having issues. He called when it was ready. I bought in my keyboard & Lance checked it out . There were no no issues with sticky keys. He cleaned both the keyboard & my tower with his industrial air cleaner. All at a great price. From my only experience, I highly recommend his service. They also work on macs from reading earlier reviews. Don't know about cell phones though. read more

I couldn't figure out why my touch pad on my MacBook wasn't working, so I searched for a smaller business to look at it rather than that genius place. These guys are literally around the corner from me and saw me that day. Turns out it wasn't a problem with the pad, it was that my battery had gone bad and swollen to the point of pad obstruction. Then, they were able to not only install a new battery, but it cost nearly half the price of that smart bar place! Please don't waste your time going elsewhere. These guys are so badass. I was on deadline for a same-day project when suddenly my power cord wouldn't stay in and my battery ran out of juice. I called them about 2:00pm, and they had me come right over. While I waited they disassembled my system, located the warped connection point, heat molded it back into place (without buying -and waiting for- any extra parts), reassembled everything, refreshed/ compressed/ and virus-protected everything, before cleaning the dog hair out of my keyboard and sending me on my way within two hours! I took my computer in on Tuesday the 23rd of January. I called about it on Friday the 26th of January, with a promise that it would be looked at on that day. On Wednesday, the 3rd of February I told them that I would need to go and get it if it wasn't looked at that day. After all, it had now been 8 working days since I had dropped it off. FYI, this was my business computer. I finally got it back Friday the 2nd of February and my receipt says I was charged for express service. Since when is 10 working days considered express service? The computer, itself, works great! But the charges and the lack of communication added up to a terrible experience. read more

I spent hours upon hours with Apple support and they could not get my issue solved. as a last ditch effort looked for mac computer repair and found That Bytes in South Austin off Slaughter very near where I live. Lance took in my computer gave me a price to try and fix my problem and called me a day later saying it was ready but noticed an issue with my dead battery. Told me he had one in stock and he put it in at a very reasonable price and I could not be happier. Just brought him my other computer as I knew it had the buldging battery issue in it. Dropped it off and he called a few hours later and said it was ready. He even did the software update that it was needing. Like I said before I could not be happier. I was so frustrated with myself when I accidentally installed malware on my HP laptop after installing some freeware for my son. I tried everything to get rid of it. Downloaded other programs to search for the malware and quarantine it. Ran various scans of the hard drive searching for the problems. But nothing worked. And it was making using any web browser impossible, as well as slowing down whatever program I was trying to run. The problem seemed to only be worsening. So after several attempts and too much time spent on this, I decided I had to do a clean install of Windows. But I couldn't even get that to work! The malware had completely infected my laptop to the point where I wasn't able to get anything done on this laptop. In total exasperation, I took the laptop over to That Bytes to see what they could do. They were kind, relaxed, and assured that they could help, so instead of throwing the laptop against a wall (which is what I wanted to do), I left it with them in hopes it could be repaired without breaking the bank. Lo and behold, That Bytes calls me several days ahead of the estimated completion date, saying they were able to finish it quicker than anticipated. When I picked it up, everything looked great. It ran smoothly. And all is well again with the laptop because of That Bytes. It runs better than ever, and faster, as well. Prices are very fair (I shopped around a bit), and you can't beat their customer service. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend to anyone with computer issues. Fortunately he did not need to order a part and was able to do the repair quickly. Make sure when you go here that you speak with the older gentleman AKA the owner. The young kid (I believe is his son) is very rude and sarcastic during times that is very unnecessary. When my mother arrived he began to make fun of me while I was not there and gave my mother lots of rude attitude during the whole process. Dell wanted $400 and 8 weeks to fix my laptop (yeah, right) So I found That Bytes on Google maps and took it to them instead! 2 weeks and waaaay less than $400 later, I had my computer back, good as new! That Bytes deserves the 5 star ratings. They're one of those businesses who stay in business because they provide both competent services and they make that extra effort. That extra effort is what keeps customers returning to give them additional business and it makes us want to recommend their services to others. I've used That Bytes three times for different computers, varying from desktops to servers to notebooks. A couple of the times I've taken equipment to them, it was for upgrade tasks that I didn't have the time to do myself. Once it was because I had a notebook that was dead on arrival and wouldn't boot at all. Each time, they've provided an estimate, they have provided the service needed and they've taken the time to make suggestions about other issues that they noticed that I might want to attend to. The equipment was returned in a reasonable time (and in about 1/2 the time that other repair shops typically take). And each time, my computer was cleaned and working great.
