Alan is the MVP today. Not only did he figure out my problem, he helped me set up an appt to use my apple care to solve another problem he figured out I was hesitant. But the reviews were encouraging which is why I am writing one. We did this all remotely. So didn't even spend money on gas! My 2020 MacBook Pro was crawling, I had reset the modem but didn't unplug the cables from the router and somehow that was the fix That aside, my MacBook was kind of a mess so Alan helped me organise all my files and we reclaimed a ton of space on the hard drive. He also tan a malware check (thank god no issues), and installed a fan monitor since my fans aren't working correctly. It's running like it should for the price I paid for it! I'm a writer who has relied on PCs for decades. Well beyond "mid-career" I found myself in a situation where almost all of my colleagues used Apple/Mac products like another false religion. I have a 2012 MacBook Air. It's in immaculate condition but, being not overly computer savvy, I mistakenly deleted some of the OS while trying to "clean it up". Not the greatest tech in town. He's old school and acted completely unprofessional. One time he completely neglected to show up for an appointment so not sure about all the glowing reviews here. Also, at $100/hr Alan talks to other customers on his cell phone during his tech visit. Worse yet, the guy turned out to be a complete psycho after I was unable to answer his call. He was condescending and rude. Unfortunately he "upgraded" my system without my permission and I still have several Safari browser glitches. Also, the name of the business is misleading because there is only one "doctor". And this doctor acts like he's the only game in town. I recommend Hellotech (who I forgot about and no I am not endorsed by them in any way) which I believe the annual service plan covers something like 3 tech visits and unlimited remote tech support. Otherwise there are way too many respectful Mac techs in LA. Shortly thereafter,, my MasterCard on file was hacked and the FBI was notified of an $4,000 attempted scam charge. read more

Then, they said they didn't accept credit cards - only cash/check/Venmo. The older you get, the more comforted you are by the certain knowledge that you have "go-tos" for certain things in life -- a reliable guy for your car; plumber; electrician; doctors and physical therapists for the various things that, increasingly, are going wrong with you (I'm 51, so this latter has become increasingly essential). And you want someone that can take care of your damn computer because even with a Mac, where even the non-tech-savvy can sort a fair number of problems out themselves, you do run up against it sometimes and when you do, you want to KNOW that there is a number to call for relief when 1. Your Mac will only boot 1/3 of the way up and won't make that familiar, reassuring "dooonnnggg" sound that tells you all is right with your world when doing so -- and at the 2/3 mark, it just goes dark. 2. When it was running, just before it conked to black the first time, one of your external hard drives was locked for some weird reason and all you could get out of it was a mysteriously labeled error code that no amount of internet research would decrypt 3. The data on said hard drive appeared to be inaccessible and perhaps even nonexistent -- not only could it not be opened, copied, or moved out of the drive to any other location, but it appeared to exist now only as 'images' of files -- and all of this data was about 4-500 hours of power point presentations and video lectures for the online courses I teach. Needless to say -- I was seriously concerned. Especially because -- yay -- my Time Machine had also crapped out, and...get the picture? But, dig it -- Alan swooped in, all decked out in his red and blue tights, red cape, big red 'S' on his chest and did what he always does -- totally saved the day. Avery problem solved, and then some, and the world, not to mention my Mac, is spinning in greased grooves.
