Problem 1: Open-ended commitment on diagnosis and repair time (Fan Replacement on the MSI estimated to take up to 2 weeks). Juan finally told us that they offer 1-day service as an option. Problem 2: Poor detail management. We had to remind Juan to return the charger for the LG. Problem 3: Shop was supposed to open at 10AM and we were told at 10:05 that he was 10-15minutes away. Problem 4: Juan was marginally polite but clearly was not customer friendly. Our Laptops' Status (owner remedies): 1. MSI FAN NOISE: MSI is still functional and sit's on a Large FAN Cooling platform and occasionally makes a bearing squeek. A check for Fan availability shows 5-14day availability (ships from China). Juan, a good customer service approach would have been to just be up front with the parts availability! 2. LG Gram BlueScreen: Using the Windows11 Restore routine after backing up personal files fixed the problem. Juan wanted several hundred dollars to do this including CPU cooling maintenance. Aren't there diagnostics routines that could be used first to confirm that overheating is actually an issue?

They transferred our data to this newer machine, installing Windows 11, which resulted in a common problem: only one of us (the original "administrator") could now open their documents. When we went back for help on this issue, the Repair Connection specialist washed his hands from it. He'd been paid already. Beyond that point he didn't seem to care. We ended up finding Frankenstein in North Austin, quite far from our home, but oh, such a difference in expertise and attitude! Problem solved, first trying to fix it remotely and failing, then taking old and new computer to Frankenstein. I do not intend to return to Computer Repair Connection. That being said, I had a serious framerate issue with my gaming desktop, and was doing troubleshooting on it for two weeks. I consulted Reddit, I wiped everything besides the BIOS, ran plenty of diagnostics, gave it a good dusting, but nothing fixed the issue. I finally decided to take it in and have someone look at the hardware, realizing most likely I had a busted chord or fan somewhere that would need to be replaced. I gave Scott a rundown, and he told me he would call me when he figured it out. He called me ten minutes later, so quickly I did not see the call until they had already closed. I then worked the rest of the week with Alicia who did all the replacements for my cooling system, graphics card and power core. John Cloud diagnosed a failed memory stick (oh no! they cost so much now!). I supplied an "extra" memory stick from one of the other computers at our church and John continued the repair diagnosing and fixing some particularly nasty software errors that had resulted from the initial hardware failure. All of our installed software now works reliably again! Great job! The machine was back in service on March 5 for a very reasonable repair cost! I "bricked" a Dell laptop when a BIOS update went bad causing the laptop to no longer boot up at…read moreall, just beeped an error code for a bad BIOS. Before the BIOS update, the laptop was in perfect working order passing ALL the Dell diagnostics & booted into a fresh install of Windows. I sent it to Parts-People for just a reflash, even if it was back to the original version A10. I figured they could revert back to A10 that was working. They re-flashed the BIOS to version A12 from another motherboard and everything was told it was booting and working in Windows. Then they retried to update the BIOS to A15 and got an error code for a bad CPU when done. Why is that when it was working perfectly before the update, you would think that A15 was a bad update and revert back to A12. I argued the point and told them I would have been happy with that but they insisted that I needed a new motherboard. My dumb ass let them replace the motherboard instead of arguing the point, which I should have done. They replaced the board and updated the BIOS to A15 with everything working fine and booting into Windows. It didn't stop there. When I got the laptop back, booted into Windows, I was shocked to see a 2 inch by 1/2 inch black spot on my screen! I have no idea how that got there but I was not happy. I called to dispute the issue & was told that it was there when they got it to boot up the first time. Their resolution was that I had to purchase the screen for about $60 and they would eat the shipping both ways and the labor to install it. That was it, I got pissed off and told them how I really felt about the service I got & hung up. This was my FIRST time and is my LAST time they will get ANY more repairs from me. I just will not update a BIOS on any system if it's working & testing fine.

I've noted the AustinPCTech office in its current location for years, but had never had the occasion to use their services. I went there blindly, as I knew of their longevity from personal observation, and doubted any business would survive in NW Hills without being reputable. I was greeted by Robert and explained my quandary. He advised a reasonable course of action and took the hardware into their work stream. Luck reigned when findings were rendered the next day: the keyboard was toasted but the motherboard, etc were unscathed. A replacement keypad was ordered; Robert worked with me to schedule shipping in accordance with my priority so we could manage cost as much as possible. The part arriveda few days later: I was advised of it's arrival and told to expect a call on completion the next day. Robert called first thing on the day promised -- he must've cranked the work overnight. Back in business, albeit, now using a USB-connected external keyboard to allay risk of another catastrophe while I quaff another cup of joe.
