Save yourself! I brought my mac in to be repaired and was told it would take 3-5 days to fix it. After a week went by and I hadn't heard anything from them I called to ask for an update and they said they had to send it out and that it would be another week... they never called to warn me it was going to take longer and I had no choice but to wait since they had already sent my computer away. When I first gave them my computer I asked if they had any loaner one's I could use/rent and they told me they didn't offer them. When I called to check and they told me it would be another week they offered to give me a loaner, I explained I had asked from that at the start and inquired why they didn't extend the offer then they said it was because they aren't good loaners so they just say they don't have them.... I feel like for a company who makes a living repairing people's computers they would be more understanding of the fact that someone cannot go for 2 weeks without a computer.... I ended up having to buy another computer cause I couldn't wait two weeks and then still had the expense of them fixing it. To their credit the computer is back in working order... but they were unable to save any of the data from my computer (it had water damage). Really disappointed by their customer service and lack of communication. read more

So happy he did the repair anyway despite Apples strident policy. Now my phone is good to go for a few more years. Some of the techs are abrupt but the work is all that matters. Terrible service and incredibly rude. Got a quote last week to add memory to computer for one of our company laptops and was told I could order over the phone with 25% deposit of an $800 order. When I called back today, spoke to Jay who was rude, condescending and lazy. Jay told me completely different information than other sales person and said I would have to drop off before he would order despite the other salesman saying I can drop off laptop once memory came in to save time. I told Jay I would ask someone to drop it for me and if he could take my info to call me back for quote and payment. He refused to saying he had nowhere to write down this info! What store, and apple shop,.doesn't have a piece of paper or computer to write down a customer's information? I will be taking my business and our entire tech startup business elsewhere. Not just poor customer service, but incredibly rude and unprofessional service just lost you guys major business and be assured that we will actively not recommend you to other tech startups. I second the sexist attitudes mentioned by other yelpers. Be away from this shop! I went for a cosmetic issue in middle and bottom case. I went there only because I don't want sent my mac to apple for two weeks. The front desk guy was very nice, told me that I am qualified for a battery change and along the way, got the case changed, and that will save me money by changing the cases alone. I was pretty happy. A few days later, when I picked up my mac, I paid and thanked them for services. When I got into my car, I noticed that there was a big dent on my screen piece and the black plastic piece was almost broken. Luckily, I found it out just 1 min out of their store, so I went back to show them the problem. They told me that they will ask the engineer and gave me the answer. I left without thinking too much. The damage was so obvious and I haven't left the store yet. A few days later, I called them to ask for their solutions. They told me that the engineer didn't make the damage and my computer already damaged that way before given to them! Their logics are so funny, they told me that why my computer was with damage before: 1. My computer was in a really bad shape (yes, it has one cosmetic damage, that is why I went to repair), so that it makes sense that my computer has other cosmetic problem. My question is that if my computer has two huge cosmetic damages, why I planned to spend $600 to fix one of those, and leave the other as it is? Since neither of those affects my functionality, doesn't it make sense either I fixed both or none? 2. They trust their engineer and the manager told me himself is also a very trustworthy guy, so it must not be their problem. Does he mean that either I am so stupid to not aware this huge damage, or I am so mean trying to lie to make them fix this free for me? 3. I don't have proof to conclude for sure that it is their fault! I asked them to get the security tape to check, another week later, they told me, that they will give me a free new bottom case and a lower fee to change my screen piece. Seems that I got advantage and I need to pay another few hundred dollars. I didn't even bother to talk to them since. Mainly for the reason, I don't want them to touch my mac any more! They techniques are very concerning as well. 1) For the original cosmetic damage, which they told me should be fixed with changing the battery, was not. Because the damage involves both the middle and the bottom part. Only the middle part is included in battery changing service, not the bottom part. 2) Two weeks later, I found one screen on the bottom piece got so loose. I can use my finger to tighten it up. Things have past in a few weeks, I have already passed frustration period. Writing my experience here is to help other people avoid this shop! read more

A great alternative to the Apple Store. If you work or live in the downtown area and need service on your Apple product, don't bother with the appointments, hassle, and location of the nearest Genius Bar. Instead, give these guys a try. They are an official Apple retailer and service shop, so the showroom prices match Apple retail outlets. Additionally, your AppleCare warranty still applies. As an authorized service center, they have to follow pretty strict warranty-validation procedures, but they will offer to ship your device to Apple for a second opinion. I should mention that their turnaround time for shipping and receiving with Apple care centers is crazy-fast. I like the staff well enough, too. No complaints. read more

I wish there were 6 stars... My 5-year-old Macbook Pro needed some love. The folks at the Genius Bar recommended Austin MacWorks, because they could back up my hard drive before sending the machine into Apple's repair depot (which the Genius Bar is barred from doing by some sort of policy.) AMW told me that it would be $90 to pull my HD and back it all up, then around $350 for Apple to do their magic. (Same price as quoted by the Genius Bar) Turns out that Apple's repair work was done free of charge due to *who really cares why?* The cool cats at AMW said, "Chip, this never happens!" They were as excited as I was, maybe more. Then, to top it off and make the experience perfectly amazing, they opted to not charge me for the HD backup service. What a day! These guys are smart, friendly, and perfectly located across from City Hall. They have lots of space to work, and lots of folks to do the work. Why suffer a trip to the mall when you can get first class service in the heart of downtown Austin? I'll be back! read more

My 2009 iMac hard drive died, they quickly and affordably replaced it with an SSD. So fast and quiet now, lots cheaper than a new iMac. And they identified a problem as being due to a recalled motherboard on an old MacBook Pro, so I was able to get the fix for free. read more

I've never been to this shop and never will. I called to inquire about buying a loaded Macbook Pro, a spend that would be more that $2,500 and the guy on the phone was so uninterested in answering any questions it was baffling. I wanted to know what the benefits might be buying from them versus an Apple store... I like to support local whenever I can. He couldn't give me any really. He acted as if I was wasting his time. I was buying that day and went to the Apple store and got stellar service, with all questions answered and then some. Prior to going to the Apple store I got on and read the terrible reviews for this place and am so glad I did. I came to this shop in dire straits. Whilst tapping away mindlessly on my iPhone (that is what they are for, right?) the damn thing froze up. No amount of swiping or poking would wake it. I work down the street from this place, so off I ran. Upon first inspection they told me the screen was dead and I needed to go to the Apple Store. My overly confessional self blurted out something lame about how I have no friends and no car, so was basically SOL. Then I may have used a four letter word or two. The patient resident iPhone expert pried apart my phone and jiggered with it for a while. Lo and behold, back in business! I knew I needed to get my mac's trackpad replaced, but everyone around town was saying 3-7 days (WHOA). This is far too long to be computer-less. I called Austin MacWorks and they said 24 hours, which was great! They took a look at my computer, ordered the part, AND lent me a loaner mouse so I could continue working. The part came in and i dropped my computer off, they had it back to me SAME DAY! These guys are great and i'd recommend them to anyone! read more

Don't go here. Very disappointing. Rude. Not thorough. Bad customer service. Went in to look for a used MacBook which we found. Mid 2012 i7 laptop seemed like it was going to be perfect. They had it at their north location and told us we could pay for it Friday and they would bring it down to the 2nd st location on Saturday so all we would have to do is go pick it up. Got there on Saturday and the big tall guy with long hair finally figured out where it was after not being able to find it at first. All he does is hands me the computer gives me the receipt and that's it. Doesn't say anything about the laptop, gives me nothing to carry it in, doesn't even show me if it's working or not. Bring it all the way back home (my mistake for trusting them) and I can't even get into the computer. He neglected to tell me there was a password. I guess it's my job to inform myself? Went to plug in the computer and it doesn't even charge. Call up the store and this guy has the most short and rude attitude with me when I tell him what happened. He makes it seem like it's myyyyy fault. And yells at me over the phone "ARE YOU AT THE COMPUTER RIGHT NOW!" I said yes are you going to be ok? He seemed like he was having a terrible day and wants to take it out on me. He finally tells me the password to get in and says "just bring it back and we'll get you the right charger" I don't have a car so i have to rideshare everywhere so already this whole situation is super inconvenient. After spending over 900. Get to the store and he's like "huh, I guess it doesn't work" apparently they failed to figure out between all three times of checking the computer that it doesn't charge. Try telling me it was working just fine every time they checked it and then magically it doesn't work all of a sudden when I go to buy it. Once again they're just coming off so rude this whole time and just trying to blame everything else but themselves for not doing a thorough job before selling someone something that expensive. what a nightmare. They started acting nice when they asked if I wanted to have their technician look at it and 'could have it by Monday' no way. Not giving you my business after that. Y'all need to find better employees. Wish I would have read the reviews before going there because it sounds like I'm not the first person with similar complaints. Arrived for my appointment and was told to leave my laptop there for a couple days so they could diagnose the problem. So two days, just to take a look at it and tell me what's wrong. Went into the store this morning to drop off my computer for them to take a look at. One staff was fairly pleasant and answered my questions. The other guy was rude, testy and condescending. I was told that they could possibly take a look at my computer by then end of the day, so I was surprised when I called in the evening and the man who answered was so quick to point out that I was mistaken. These guys really helped out in a pinch. We had a laptop with some extensive water damage and they took it same day. Less than 24 hours we got the diagnosis that the laptop was bunk (no surprise there), but they'd be happy to transfer the data. After a few missteps on my part and a couple days later, we got the appropriate hardware to them and they transferred everything. They were really great, especially considering I wasn't really on the ball, so they had to hold onto the laptop for a while, and they didn't even sweat it. The prices were cheaper than I was expecting (since they applied the diagnosis fee towards the extra services), and they were very pleasant. They'll be who I recommend to anyone with Mac trouble. read more

They were suppose to replace my boss's hard drive on his computer and when we got his computer back they had given us the wrong computer. My 2007 imac died on my after 5yrs -- it would power on but there was no display activity on the screen -- and with a heavy heart I brought it to AMW on 2nd Street, hoping they might be able to find the problem. They took my computer, asked questions, and called me the next day with an update. Basically the motherboard inside was dead and although the part could be replaced, but it would be hard to find and very pricey ($700 approx) since the computer was an older model. The tech who called me was so candid and honest, I really felt like he was giving me all the right information to make my decision on what to do. He didn't push me to make any quick decisions, just let me know what costs would be and also let me know about their recycle program if I decided to just junk the computer (they could take it off my hands for me). I thought about it for the day and went into the shop the next day to let them know I didn't want to try and fix it. They were so nice, they didn't charge me for any of the diagnostics and even walked me through the process of how to restore all my backups onto a new computer when/if I ever wanted to get one. Bottom line: though I walked in with a computer and walked out without one, these guys were amazing. They know their stuff and offered thoughtful and quick customer service. read more

Very disappointing. Dropped my Macbook Pro in need of repairs off a week ago after an appraisal, they told me they'd get the part on order and in the shop to repair within three days. A week later, I called in to see if I could pick it up (after a week of not receiving any calls or e-mails about the repair progress) and they told me they still hadn't gotten the part in. Showed up at the shop to pick up my broken computer with no changes to take it to an Apple Store for repairs instead. Shipment delays are understandable but it's unacceptable to not even attempt to reach me about updates or possible delays. Both times I went to the store, the employees seemed disconnected and bothered by my business. I won't be coming back here, the Apple Store is kinder, faster, and more knowledgeable. read more

This place is a scam. I went in for a startup disk so i could wipe 2 Macbook Pro's. The guy told me they didn't have any disks but I could leave my machines there so they could wipe them. What a joke. If they can wipe it, then they have disks back there. What a bunch of shadeballs. I would have been happy to pay a fee to get the disk, sit there, and wipe my own box. After my daughter spilled an entire glass of sweet tea into the keyboard of my macbook pro, I thought for sure that everything would be lost. I went to the Apple store first and they could not help me to retrieve the data on my hard drive (apparently they don't ever do that??), but recommended these guys. I brought it in on a Friday afternoon, and it came back from Apple on the following Thursday. They turned it on (it worked!) and every single bit of my computer was exactly how I left it before the tea incident. Yes it was more than I would've paid to just get it fixed, but those files, photos and the massive music collection I had would have been lost. Worth every penny of the extra $100. read more
