Brought my new custom built pc here. I haven't done a custom build myself in a while but thought I'd give it a shot and ran into so many issues that I just couldn't figure out. Game Republik was the only place open on a weekday so I brought it here. Local spot that also repairs consoles and hosts gaming tournaments, the owner and PC expert , Chris, wasn't there when I dropped it off which is fine. He got back to me by Monday and kept me updated as to when he started, issues he potentially found, and when he resolved them with pictures for status updates. Very unprofessional and unreasonably expensive. Went to get my PS5 back and they were highly upset with me. I was told it would take 2 weeks and I didn't have that time to wait. Chris is a very honest and direct guy. He knows his stuff, and will always want the best for you. He understands the tech industry as well as the gaming industry inside and out. It's great to do business with a guy who won't take shortcuts, and doesn't just say what you want to hear. I was originally searching for sticks to be repaired on my Xbox elite 2 controller, and he ordered some metal ones online. The factory sticks lasted me 3 months (release until about January 2020). Mad stick drift, unplayable. My sticks now have ZERO stick drift after 12 months and counting. I was quite pleased with his work, and decided to make the jump to PC. I had a $2k budget, and he built a beast of machine for the games I play. His prices are extremely fair, and will tailor your color scheme, processing power, GPU to your needs. One of my RAM cards errored out 8 months in with an Elgato capture card I installed. Chris ordered a new one installed it, and stress-tested for me free of charge. Was told my console would cool better than new. Used to always have high speed fan on; now never. Been a couple months and safe to say it is indeed better than new. Fair price. My only experience with Game Republik is this one interaction, in a repair capacity. Originally, I tried doing a case swap on an OG NDS. I couldn't get the top part of the clamshell on, plus, when I turned it on, it would short out, turn on, then immediately turn off. I'd interacted with Game Republik on Twitter, so I decided to try them out. I dropped off my NDS on March 6, 2019. They told me it would take some time to diagnose and had no idea of cost. "It depends on the diagnosis." After hearing nothing, I decided to buy another working (cheap) OG NDS off of eBay and asked them to simply put the new shell on the working NDS. No diagnosis, just a straight shell swap. After hearing nothing, I continued to reach out to them on Twitter and Facebook Messenger, called twice, then finally heard back. "With third-party shells, they don't always fit, so I'm working on making it fit." I get it - the AliExpress sellers make inconsistent stuff. Still, it took me almost two months to get my NDS back. They called me right at the end of April (remember, I dropped it off in early March) and told me it was ready. I finally picked it up today. Pros: the shell fits. Cons: they broke the hinge on the NEW shell I bought, the top screen doesn't line up with the bezel, the L trigger and B buttons feel super gummy, and they didn't even bother to clean off the top LCD before putting it back in the shell. You HAVE to take the entire thing apart in a shell swap - why not clean it when you have the opportunity? I know I was dealing with an old console and I know that the third party shell might be a (small) pain, but I expected better for $44 and waiting almost two months. At this point, I wish I'd saved my money, never bothered trying a shell swap, and just kept a fully functional, clean, snappy button'd OG NDS. Your mileage may vary but I am not impressed. RESPONSE (5/4/2019): Yes, I freely admit I gave you a shorted out system and a completely working system. If you ignore the shorted out one and look at only the working hardware and the shell, it's a shell swap, simple as that. Yes, I posted a review based off of my experience. I'm not going to apologize for being less than enthused with waiting two months. Reading other people's reviews about your repairs, it seems like I'm not in the minority regarding my experience. It's also okay to be done doing shell swaps. Post a sign on your door or your website. There wasn't one when I dropped off my hardware. I am more than happy to talk about it on the phone. I was busy when you called and my phone is on silent. I can also only assume that you are the number that called me after the actual Game Republik number called and said 'Wow thanks"? These guys are legit. I had an issue with my PS5s HDMI port which needed replacing. I found another competitor closer to my home and $50 cheaper. I spoke to Chris (the owner) and he made a valid point which persuaded me to go with them. The other companies in Austin came with a 30-day warranty or did not want to attempt the repair at all. Game Republik offers a 180-day warranty which feels like these guys stand by their work. I took my PS5 in and they repaired it fairly quickly. A few days later however it appeared the blue-ray player stopped working (unsure of the cause). I took it back in and Chris repaired it free of charge. These guys also fixed my Scuf Impact joystick drift (repair done by Lance) and it works flawlessly. It also came with a 180-day warranty. GGs read more

So I brought my SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in here for repair because I couldn't get it working at home. I got told it would likely be 2 or 3 weeks for the guy to look at it because his dad was sick and he was working remotely while taking care of him. Ok cool no problem I'm in no rush at all. We'll I got a call 3 days later telling my SNES graphics card was dead and there's nothing they could do. Then I got told I could come pick it up or they could keep it for parts. Well I went to a used game store called Resurrected Movies, Video Games & More and bought another SNES straight away. However I'm very atrached to this particular system as I've had it since they came out and it's sentimental, so I decided to go pick it up. Well after taking to the guy at the game store he said a lot of times the power cord is just busted. Maybe that's all that's wrong with your other one when you get home you should try it and see. I did just that and low and behold the SNES I got told the video graphics card was dead on works just fine. So either they didn't test it at all and just said it was dead. Or they tested it and said it was dead hoping I wouldnt go pick it up and they could resell it. Either way the entire situation is very sketchy and I will not be returning to this store or recommending them to anyone. I brought in three Xbox One controllers for repair, all with broken and malfunctioning joysticks, which I clearly explained and demonstrated. They had to order new logic boards for the controllers, so it took a few days. When I came to pick them up, one of the three controllers had been fixed, though they told me all three were. I asked if they had run diagnostics on the controllers and was told that all they could do was try to play a game with them, and they had, and that nothing was broken. I came back with the two broken ones explaining the same issue again, only to have what I think was the owner derisively explain that he'd been fixing controllers for over 20 years, and that there was nothing wrong with them. I don't know how you can run a controller repair business without a simple diagnostic program (showing controller axes, output value ranges, button accuracy, etc.), but at that point I didn't feel like arguing with the owner to just get my controllers fixed. Low value, unprofessional staff and engaging in dodgy scalper practices in an effort to try and upsell you on services which add no value. Currently the owner is advertising on local pages that they have highly-sought after high-end hardware in stock that is difficult to find. When pricing is requested, you are told you can't buy hardware standalone and have to purchase an "upgrade" or "installation service" upsell just to buy a $400+ piece of tech. So let me get this straight, I can't come in with cash in my hand, buy a GPU they have in their hands, and take it home with me. Instead I need to completely unplug my PC, schlep it into my truck, drive it to your building and carry it in for you to install when I can do it on my own, faster, in the comfort of my own home and not have some minimum wage college kid mess up my cable management. Makes sense. Oh and I need to pay extra on top of hardware MSRP for the privilege of doing all the above? Oh and when you ask for ball park pricing on what an install would look like, you're told "oh this is done on a case-by-case basis" so you can't even get an idea of what it will cost unless you engage them further. When you call the owner, Chris, out on this crappy business practices he just tries to cite his "20 years" of gaming and technology experience. I have no doubt these guys can fix an HDMI port, just like anybody with a soldering iron and YouTube can. Chris (the owner) called me and threatened me over me saying Tek is not a good place (on this website), calling me "a Daddy's little girl from Dallas" as well as saying he would taking me to court for "lying" for saying "they're horrendous", on the Yelp talk board. On top of that they never gave me the specs before building it, like they said they would, and put an OS on it that I distinctly said I didn't want. They left screws inside of it, took out a USB card I paid for, didn't put a back plate on it, put a fan in the front that wasn't connected to anything, lost my phone number and then didn't try to contact me by email (I called them two weeks later asking what was up), used outdated ribbons, bent several metal pieces putting it together, and I had to take it back twice to get it repaired within the first week. The fan on the HEAT SYNC has so much bent metal that it was trapping the wires around it, which they didn't organize at all. On top of this they charged me 1200$ for a computer almost identical in hardware to one my fiance has, which he paid 980$ for. Except his actually has a good motherboard and all of the parts in it, working just fine. On my first computer they didn't copy over the drives that I asked, but they did send my burnt out ones for free. That was one of the times I had to take back the new computer, since I wanted all of the drives on my old one copied or put into the new. On top of all of that they have a great marketing scheme where it takes you thirty minutes to start up a game at their centre, well after it crashes 4-5 times and you have to log out and back in more than you would on your own computer in a week. At first I really liked this place but I wouldn't wish Tek on my worst enemy. Not only do they have bad workmanship, their owner sent messages to myself, Susi R., and Michelle C. for not portraying Tek in the best of light. All of which were misogynistic, which was also the theme of all their posts on the Yelp talk board. I could upload pictures of all of the bent parts, lack of a face plate, etc on the computer they build but I'm sure they would just get taken down. Worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I dropped of a controller for repair over 5 months ago, the controller was apparently stolen from the store the day i dropped it off, it took them 3 months to admit what happened, it has now been another 2 months since then and there has been no resolution. Problems with Xbox repairs - revised Save your cash and send it to Microsoft, Tek Republik's $65 repair and fan upgrade only restored my xbox to playable condition for a few hours of game time each of the two times i took it in for repair. After the second failure the owner refused a refund and told me to bring the unit back in for a third repair! Now i am stuck with the same ring of death as when i came in. The owner is very childish in my opinion- he cussed me out on the phone when i told him i would have no choice but to write bad reviews if he refused a refund and did not stand behind his service. He continued to send me rude emails through their tech support system! UPDATE - emails keep coming, starting at 7:23 AM on a saturday....wow. Well, when you provide poor service and do not stand behind your work you get bad reviews here on yelp and other places. They do offer a warranty with the upgraded repair for $65 but unless you want to spend your days driving back and forth to this shop in a strip mall on north burnet until the warranty expires and the system dies on you again avoid this place. As somebody that provides a LAN center to Gamers, you are incredibly abrasive, rude, ALL you do is complain about how terrible your life is, and you keep saying this like "F this, F you, F everything, Get this Sh*t over with" Here's an idea for you as an owner. If you want to Host a CS:GO Tournament, considering each individual game could potentially take up to 90 minutes per game. Plan ahead on how long this tournament will last. Do some research, "How long do CS:GO Tournaments take?" Usually around 12 hours MINIMAL if there are multiple teams taking place, including double elimination. Here's a second idea for you as an owner. For someone who provides a LAN Center to Gamers, If you want people to come BACK. You have to be nice, courteous, consideration, and just SMILE. You were entirely throwing every single one of your life baby crying problems to each individual last night at the tournament. I guarantee that last night could have been a GREAT money making opportunity for YOU as a business owner for this LAN Center if you did 5 of the following things. 1. Placed the tournament at an earlier time of the day. 2. Get some sleep dude, because you obviously don't get any at all and its an incredible buzz kill for every person that meets you. 3. Utilize the kindness of your wife, and let her be the person to talk face to face to customers, she was kind- caring- and tried to do as much as she could to help. You need to let her be the person to assist others, and PLEASE PLEASE go in the back office and don't speak words to anyone UNLESS THEY ARE NICE. 4. Just be nice, and look at the bigger picture. Realize that even though you are running a very poor business model- you can turn it around and have more potential if ONLY you had a more positive mindset. They rescued my 60GB PS3!! I really didn't think it was possible. Having an electronics background, I attempted to fix it myself. I was able to get my PS3 working for about 45 minutes before it started doing the dreaded yellow light of death (YLOD), so I looked up repair places and found Game Republik. The reviews were kind of sketchy, so I was a little worried... but they fixed it! When I took in my PS3, I was really expecting them to say it couldn't have been repaired. I had opened it myself and disassembled the entire thing... reapplied my own thermal compound... performed a solder reflow using a heat gun... you get the drift. They let me know up front that the repair may not be possible given those circumstances, which I completely understood and appreciated the upfront honesty. It did take considerably longer to have the repair completed. I was quoted 4-5 days (3-4 days if I paid in advance), but it ended up taking over 2 weeks. I called in to check on the progress a few times in that interval and they told me that they had to try multiple times to get it repaired and had failed, so they were still working on it. That's totally fine with me, but it would be really nice to have some kind of ticket system where customers can view the tech's notes online without having to call in and bug them about it. In the case of my repair, it sounds like a new fan was added. It's EXTREMELY loud now, much louder than the stock 60GB PS3 was. That sounds like a complaint, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work without that fan. Just something to be aware of though. I had no hope that the PS3 could be repaired so I had already bought a new one... but without the help of Game Republik, I never would have been able to recover the thousands of hours of save data on my old PS3, so thanks guys! read more

After looking at the history of the reviews it was hard to know what to expect. Took my PS3 in to be repaired, was doing the corrupted data not reading disc thing. Was quoted a decent price and a very reasonable timeframe, two to three days. Then as five days rolled by without any info I decided to call. Was told by an employee the tech dude who repairs wasn't around so they would call me when he returned. They never did, I called back after seven days. Same thing. Called again and finally got a hold of the guy, he had not even touched the system, was having a personal crisis at home. Gave me a timeframe. After several more phone calls for over two weeks the guy finally played around with it and said it couldn't be fixed. Got a refund. My issue with this place is they are not professional. Don't give a timeframe that won't be met. If something comes up let your customers know. Stuff happens to all of us but don't act irritated at the people who keep you in business are wondering about their products. The tech guy needs a psychologist or some coping strategies for his borderline sociopathic tendencies. With yelp you have to sift through random complaints, exclude the outliers in the data from grumpy people who want to vent.
