They helped me a few years ago -- twice -- and it was all good. The price seemed competitive as well. Once I had them come to my house to do something and that cost more but it was good too. They made one HUGE mistake since I last used them (in my opinion), and that was changing their MEMORABLE name from Computer Nerdz to Limitless Tech, which is one of the most forgettable names I can imagine. $100 just to have a Nerd set foot on my property? You've got to be kidding me. You're better off just backing up all of your data and reinstalling Windows by yourself. I'm just disgusted with these Nerdz. Avoid them at all costs. While I was out of town my grandfather called this "Nerdz" company to tune up a sluggish computer, fix an Internet connection issue, and fix a printer issue with one of 2 printers connected to the PC. First the Nerd told him he couldn't have both printers connected to his PC at the same time. This is false as one printer is USB and the other older printer connects to the LPT port. They both worked fine in the past being connected at the same time. First I replaced the older printer drivers with newer ones. After that they worked perfectly. Next I turned to the Internet problem and quickly saw that his DSL modem was dropping the connection every 5 minutes. All I had to do was watch the status lights on the front of the DSL modem to figure this out, very easy. After placing a call into his DSL provider (AT&T), I loaded the Firefox browser. Unlike Internet explorer Firefox can tolerate an Internet connection that drops off and picks back up every few minutes. Problem solved, he can now surf the web until AT&T gets a tech out there to sort out his DSL issues for good. On to the sluggish PC. Finally I ran a free program, ccleaner, to clean the registry and temp files and then defragmented his PC with a free defragmenter I found on Download.com, much faster than the one that ships with Windows too. All of this took me about an hour total. The nerds were at his house for OVER FOUR HOURS and never did get both printers working nor did they did realize the DSL modem was dropping the connection. You should have seen the bill they gave my Grandad. He's too embarrassed to dispute it so I not going to push the issue with him. I'm absolutely outraged that they took advantage of an elderly man and sent out such an inexperienced tech. Asking around online I found out they pay their techs very poorly, no way anyone talented would work there when there are so many other places for talented people in Austin. Techs have to use their own vehicles and the company pays a very meager fuel stipend for each call. Their service area is big too! So the techs are basically losing money on each call depending on the location and traffic due to not being reimbursed fully for gas. To make up for this they are forced try to sell you things which you may or may not actually need so they can make commission. The guys managing the office know jack squat about troubleshooting PCs, they only do clerical work. How can you manage a team of techs when you don't know their line of work very well? It's like the blind leading the deaf. read more

Outstanding work and equally marvelous customer service. I dropped my laptop off on Sunday afternoon after an "experience" with another computer repair option. I should've come to the Nerdz in the first place, seeing as I've used them for over twenty years. Scott, the technician on duty on Sunday, was excellent. He understood the problem, listened, and even called back as promised. He explained their solution and what else they found wrong with the computer. I was promised that the computer would be ready on Monday. Today, I got a return phone call explaining the work that had been done as well as recommendations. Just like dealing with a medical professional or a good mechanic, they gave me a variety of options to consider. The work was done on schedule, for a reasonable price ($79 + tax), and promises were kept. That's as good as it gets -- and infinitely better than leaving the laptop for a "few days" with a chain. read more

I got a serious virus on my computer at work - I wasn't visiting any naughty sites, I swear - and I needed to get it fixed. I brought the computer to the store. The sole employee in the store explained how they operate and was both knowledgable and pleasant. My computer was ready to be picked up 36 hours later. It was fixed completely. The time to fix a computer depends on a combination of how much testing they have to do, how busy they are, and the work schedule of whomever works on your computer. The rates are not cheap, but are reasonable. Overall, they did the job as advertised and fixed a problem which was far beyond my technical skills. read more

I took my new computer to Computer Nerdz in Austin on a Wednesday. The purpose was to reload programs and data from an external backup drive. When I dropped it off in mid-afternoon, I was told that it would be ready the next day and that they would call be on my cell phone. When I asked for a claim check of some sort, I was refused. The next day passed without a call. At 2:00 p.m. of the second day with no call, I called them. The young woman who answered informed me that it had been ready at 5:00 p.m. on the previous day and, unbidden, told me that I owed them $59.00 plus tax. I asked why I had not been called. Her reply was that they had trainee nerds at that location and were probably too busy to call me. What marvelous customer relations! I picked it up that same afternoon (Friday). After the weekend, I took the computer to work so that the system administrator could load programs that I need to work away from the office. In the process, we discovered that my new computer now had pop-ups that arose from at least two pieces of malware, some applications that were initially on the computer when I picked it up had disappeared, and worst of all, my backup external drive had been erased. I can only guess, but I think that some untrained employee moved the data, etc., on the external drive instead of copying it to the computer. My backup external drive is now a paperweight I called the listed number, which connects to San Antonio, and asked to speak to the boss. The female who answered sounded VERY young, said that the boss was busy, could she help me? Obviously, no, because I wanted to talk to someone with at least some authority. She said that I could leave my name and number and he would call me, so I did. He called back expressed his sorrow and tried to blame it on a virus on my external drive, which I bought just to back up the files that they erased. He asked what I wanted to do about it. I rather expected him to suggest what he wanted to do about it. End result, they have my money, I have a computer with malware on it, and no backup drive. read more

I've always relied on Discount Electronics in the past for my Dell laptop repair needs, but when my motherboard literally had a meltdown at the North Village branch of the public library, a concerned patron recommended I try these guys instead because they were right down the street and he'd had a great experience there recently. They waived the bench fee after confirming my worst fears (that the Inspiron would not be cost effective to repair), and then offered me a Latitude model (a significant improvement), for less than I'd paid for the now-broken unit just 6 months ago. Granted, whenever purchasing a refurbished laptop, it's always a bit of a gamble... but what I loved about this place most of all was the immediate attention I received. My computer is my TV, my jukebox, my home theater AND my primary link to the outside world and I could not afford to be without it. Scott and Phil both took care of me in the way I like to refer to as "family style." 8 hours ago I was about to have a meltdown of my own! I called them out to fix what I knew to be an odd problem and before I let the guy inthe door I explained and asked him to promise he could fix it. He said that he understood thte problem and thought he could fix it. Guess what-he couldn't. He left a scan running when I knew that would not be the problem since I already pay and run scans every week automatically. Then he said if that wasn't the problem I could bring it in and they would reload everything. Seriously? $93.00 later and no repair done so I would never take it there and don't recommend their service. read more

Unfortunately I used another repair service to replace my Toshiba laptop screen. Phil found dislodged, broken screws inside that had cracked the video board and rendered my laptop useless. He retrieved all data from the hard drive, helped me transfer programs and set up accounts onto my new Surface Pro 3. He was knowledgeable, efficient and communicated well. I took my lap top in for repairs. I was told the repairs were complete, so I picked it and brought it home. Once home, I realized the date and time had not been repaired and set correctly, so I took my lap top back a second time. When I went back to pick it up, it still was not correct, but the repair tech did something as I watched that appeared to fix the issue just long enough to get out the door. Once I got home and turned my lap top on, the time and date are STILL wrong. I will NOT be taking my lap top back a THIRD time!! read more

I dropped my laptop off on a Friday morning with a fan issue and was told that I would have an answer either that day or by Saturday at the latest. Well by the end of the day on Saturday I called and was told that it was on the tech's desk being looked at right then and I should have an answer soon. Sunday they were closed and Monday was a holiday so Tuesday was the next working day. I waited all day and finally called then myself and was told the exact same thing that I was told on Saturday. Finally at the end of the next day, Wednesday, I was called and told that I needed a new fan. I told them to go ahead and was told the lead time was 3 to 5 days. A week and a half later I called them again to see what the hold up was and they said that the fan was installed but it was still giving them an error message on startup and that they could try to fix that but most likely they couldn't. I understand that repairs of any kind take time but when you lie to me several different times about how long, that just not acceptable. I will not be a returning customer and I would not recommend them to anyone else either. read more
