First, the good things. The repair was fast (same-day), the cost was reasonable, and the tech at the counter was very friendly. We struck up an interesting conversation on a topic most people wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. I immediately like the tech and I really wanted to like the shop but .... The place is not easy to spot from the road and you have to look carefully for the sign in the window. The first time I went, I had to wait for 10 minutes in the building break room because the tech arrived 15 minutes after the stated opening time. The fix he performed worked, but then my computer stopped working a few days later. He DID warn me that the item that broke was the first sign of computer death, especially for my model, but I can't be sure if it was his fix that failed or another part of the computer. The final straw was when I returned for a follow-up repair, one hour after advertised opening time, and the door was closed and locked. I waited for 15 minutes and he did not show up so I left and went to Discount Electronics. I'll give 2 stars for the good things mentioned above, but I can't rate higher than that given the other issues I encountered. read more

I had been having a nightmare experience with my laptop (to long to get into here). After spending $200 and 8 days for a professional to "repair" it, the motherboard on the laptop went out before I could save my pictures and music (10 years worth). I had to buy a new laptop. I tried to hook up the (brand new) hard drive from my old Dell to the new laptop and, not knowing what I was doing, I opted to reformat the drive, which I now know erases everything. File recovery costs upwards of $600, which I cannot afford. Economy Computer Repair to the rescue. I call the shop, tell them my issues, and Matt tells me over the phone that the new drive is asking to reformat probably due to corrupt files on it, and that even if I reformatted/erased everything, he would be able to recover it for x-amount (leaps and bounds cheaper than $600+). I brought it in at 4pm, he called me by 10 the next morning to say that he had recovered everything, and that I could come back to pick everything up. I get my laptop back, and everything is back on it, including old coursework from college that I enjoyed reviewing for fun, and my resume, which has 15 years work of employment history on it. Matt from Economy Computer Repair let me know that files are never really erased, just hidden, and that he would be able to access them. He could have upped the price and made the process seem a lot more difficult and expensive than it was, but he was honest, prompt, and fair. I highly recommend this place. read more

I have used Economy Computer repair twice in the past couple of years. Both times, I have found the staff to be helpful and remarkably non-judgmental. This last time, I brought in two laptops that I had broken in the process of trying to exchange the hard drives between the two. Brought in a laptop with a broken LCD, they offered an alright fee so I followed through. They told me to come back in 30 minutes, and when I did, I was told that one of the employees had broken the only replacement screen they had, and I would have to wait a week for the part to come in. They put the original LCD back on my computer, but I was very unimpressed with the fact that my screen was now completely white on HALF of the screen instead of the original 3 inch white spot that I was getting repaired. The screen was entirely unusable due to the fact that it was then also freezing the entire screen for a good 5 seconds in 1-2 second intervals. Not to mention they put the original screen in upside down, good job guys. Extra crap they did: When they were taking apart the screen the first time to check it out, the owner told his helper/employee/ to be extra careful because it could break, talking to him like he's never done a repair before. Why is a person who doesn't know how to fix a computer screen FIXING MY COMPUTER SCREEN. They also broke my internal microphone/camera and when I called to say something about it, the man on the phone basically told me tough shit, and that it's the next person to repair the screen's problem. Absolute WORST repair company I have ever done business with, and I sincerely hope none of you have to deal with this BS. Cheers read more

I am somewhat surprised by the negative review. Several years ago my desktop became paralyzed by THOUSANDS of viruses. I have always used name-brand security, so it amazed me how badly and how quickly they spread. It took Matt two or three days to clean up the mess. Matt DID backup data and he DID change a few things and added a couple of spyware applications, BUT everything worked... AND I am very particular about my computer stuff. I went to Economy Computer Repair with a multitude of computer issues, both software, and hardware issues. Pretty much, word was not loading at all, I was getting some weird kind of error message I'd never seen before. I do pre-much everything on word So it was pretty disastrous. The hardware issue was the HDMI import was no longer working much or what the deal was with that I think over time because of overuse maybe it just stopped working. I had planned for them to have the computer for a couple days but I think the actual turnaround was closer to 36 hours ( they were actually done in a day and a half, it was just that I couldn't pick it up until after the second day so really they were done in about 12 hours if you want to get technical about it). These guys are top-tier. I had some idea of what it might cost from google - and told him this is the most i would pay, he said he could do it for less....the nerve! lol. Amazing customer service. Fast, efficient, friendly-taking the time to explain what they thought was wrong and how they would fix it, just an all-around great experience. Contrast that with a franchise place like discount computer repair, I dropped off my girlfriends tablet with them, they charge me 100 bucks to fix it and told me that they couldn't tell me how much it would cost to fix it before they collected my hundred dollars. I explained to the medical comfortable with that because what if the cost to fix it is more than the cost to replace it with the new unit, then the hundred dollars would be a waste. Sure enough that's exactly what happened. I go through this entire hassle of complaining to the store manager who told me to go to hell and then like the store corporate office and finally the Better Business Bureau before finally getting my money back. I have heard nothing but good things about this company, talking to my coworkers at Dell. I looked at reviews on the internet. They looked very good so, I decided to bring my laptop in. It was running very slow and needed help. Matt the owner was very nice. He asked me what brought me in. I told him. He turned on my laptop. He said, he had worked on many of this kind and it was running very slow compared to how it should run. He took my information and I dropped off. He called me an hour later. I have had a good experience with this company. It was a critical day with my fax and computer not working and Matt sent someone right away to fix the problem. When he got my computer running but not the fax, I paid him but said that it was more important to get a 19 page fax to someone.
