I have an aventon Adventure 1 e bike whose battery switch finally died. It was iffy since new and is a well known Aventon defect. They do not sell the $1 fix. You have to buy a new $500 battery. Because a 10c tactile switch is sub par and low quality. A star is born. At least in central texas you can get a fix while you wait down extremely reasonable price. I needed to change my battery which I bought for $25 on Amazon for my HP Envy. Seemed like a pretty simple and cheap solution as I'm not ready to buy a new laptop yet. Welp, I unscrewed all the visible screws on the bottom of the laptop but the base would not come off, so I pried it off.....which was a bad idea. Once I got it off, a few things naturally came loose, one piece even snapped in half, now I was in trouble. For all you HP users that don't know this, there are HIDDEN screws under the lower rubber piece. I tried to put everything back together but now my laptop wasn't reading the Boot Drive. Enter Star Electronics, I found them on google and they are literally half a mile from me. All the reviews about their service and prices are accurate! I was lucky enough to he helped by Ramazan, who told me he'd do his best to recover my Hard Drive for $80 (a brand new hard drive was only $40 more). My laptop is my life, and I was very nervous about a self inflicted fatal error. Thankfully Ramazan was able to recover my hard drive and got me my laptop back good as new in about 5 hours!! What a great experience. I had my doubts at first and really wasnt sure how things would turn out but this guy is amazing. I asked him to do something he had never before. Not only was he able to do it but he added years of life to my theater room set up for my wife and I. I have a Sharp Aquous Quattron 3D tv from 2011. It requires specific 3d glasses. Without the glasses the 3d feature is useless. The problem is that the glasses were no longer charging and I hadn't been able to watch 3d movies for a long time. I decided I had nothing to lose and I took 5 pair of glasses to him and asked him to try to pull them apart to replace the lithium ion batteries. Anything electronic I need to repair or save.. Sarmad is the man!!! I called to see if he could fix a gaming headset, Plantronics RIG 800 LX, the microphone went out after the up down mute switch pulled the wires from the board. He wasn't sure, but asked I bring it in, he could try! Do or do not, there was no try! Sarmad worked his magic and my 150.00 gaming headset was saved for 25 bucks....he wouldn't take more money! I called Star and asked them if I could swap sound cards between two identical laptops because one had a bad sound card and the other had a bad screen that it wasnt cost effective to fix. He said it might be soldered on the motherboard but, in that event, he could swap the motherboards. I asked how much that would cost and he said $80 for motherboard swap. I said fine and I was going to bring the computers over. When I arrived I said I was the person who called earlier about the two laptops. He said ok and took the laptops to work on them. About an hour later he texted me that he was done and I went to pickup the laptops. He charged me $80, which my husband paid while I tested the laptop (never doing that again!). To my surprise, the sound was still bad. When I pointed that out, he said the sound cards should have been swapped instead of the motherboards and he opened the laptops again and quickly and easily swapped the cards by pulling them out and reinserting them into the other laptop. It was a 3 minute service. I said I shouldn't have been charged $80 bcz he performed the wrong service and it was actually a quick and easy replacement like I said on the phone instead of a complicated hour long motherboard repair that we paid for. Not only did he NOT apologize or make it right, he said too bad and that he provided me two "services" (ha ha) so I am lucky he didn't charge me $160! He wouldn't admit he made a mistake and he wouldn't give me a partial refund. for having overcharged me. I am very angry about the way this was handled and I definitely dont recommend this business. I would rate it zero stars if Yelp allowed that. My recommendation? Go somewhere else. read more

Best phone repair experience I've ever had - and unfortunately I've had a few. Had a lightning port issue on my iPhone 6 and the case was slightly bent on the side causing the screen to not "snap" into place and lay flat. Both were replaced/fixed while I browsed the shop and both for $$59.99. I was shocked, expecting to pay at least $100 and possibly wait a business day or more for repair. These people are classy and run a classy place. I've had 5 screen replacements here for my iPhone 7 Plus. They routinely charge me more than 30 percent less than the mall competition. They go further and give me a screen protector for free. They buy and sell high end, new and used electronics, but I've never bought that stuff there. I have bought things like phone cables, hdmi cables and computer cables. They even sell some of this stuff used also. Once. I bought a used phone cable that had a short and they happily exchanged it. I've been meaning to write this review for awhile and kept the receipt as a reminder. Had screen replaced on iPad mini mid last year and shortly after the home button stopped working. Called and was told I must be using it wrong...?!? They would do nothing to fix it. Additionally, my young teenager son went in on his own (i was in nearby store and we were to meet a few minutes after) with $10 and came out with two items that could not be worth more than $5 total. He said he asked the man how much they were and the clerk asked how much he had, my son said $10 and the clerk said he can take the $10 even though it was more than that combined. The clerk ripped off my kid and my son begged me not to go in to fix it because he felt too embarrassed. Never going back there again. Also for your info they are NOT Apple authorized and any repairs they make on your Apple products will be considered Unauthorized modifications and will make any warranty forfeit. read more

Even though I rely on my phone for virtually all my communications, the electronic device I always have with me, the one I would be genuinely disappointed to suddenly have to do without, is my iPod Classic. Since junior high, I've made a habit of carrying around some sort of portable music player and headphones. I don't need constant internet connectivity, and I moreover I don't trust streaming or cloud services to always have what I want to hear or always be available*. So a pocket-sized device that can hold 100+ gigabytes of music (in practical terms, pretty much every album I've bought since high school) is, to my way of thinking, the greatest invention of the internet era. In spite of my opinion, though, this is a suddenly antiquated technology. Apple stopped producing them a couple years ago, but seemed to stop caring whether anyone bought one long before then. *To say nothing of the ethically dubious choice I feel I'd be making to pay a streaming music service for music I love knowing that musicians aren't necessarily paid for their music by streaming services. All this is to say, I was careless with my iPod and got it a little wet. I kept in rice for a few days, but that wasn't enough to save it. When I started looking for someone to fix it, I found that nobody worked on them. I found a lot of repair places willing to try saving my phone or tablet from damage, but everyone I visited or called (and I visited or called a lot of places) declined, sometimes apologetically, to work on my iPod Classic. One place I called in the Lakeline Mall suggested their neighbor Star Electronics, saying they had only recently opened. I called Star and spoke to a man (whose name I don't remember, even though he was very friendly) who said he couldn't promise anything but that he'd take a look at it for me. He also made sure I understood that, as with any surgery, there was some risk just in opening up the device, a disclaimer I appreciated but wasn't worried about since the device was already unusable and he was my only good option. I left him with it for a half hour or so, and when I came back he had pictures of the water damage to show me, and gave me a brief anatomy lesson (as it were) on the iPod. His guess was that the damage might be contained enough that replacing the connecter part and battery might revive the device. I wish I could say the iPod was saved, but it wasn't. I was disappointed in the outcome, but I appreciated talking to someone who understood how important this device was to me and was willing to try saving it. As it happened, he had a refurbished iPod Classic in his store that he let me put my incurred repair costs towards purchasing. It's a happy ending, for sure, but I was also grateful for the effort he put toward my wounded device (with it's long history of play counts and playlists). The store also has lots of earbuds and cables available. In addition there's cases, chargers, all sorts of accessories and clean, well-maintained recent and vintage electronics (including phones and game systems). It's where I will take all future electronic repair or supply needs. read more

I was quoted $35 to get the battery replaced in my iPhone 5S yesterday, and the swap only took 30 minutes or so. Initially I was very happy because of the speed of repair and price, but when I got home I checked to make sure the battery was new with the free "Battery Life" app. I was disappointed to see that the battery I paid for had already been through 527 cycles and had a capacity of just 1300mAh - well short of what a new battery should have. I returned today and the technician indicated that he thought the battery was new, but after I showed him the Battery Life readings he replaced the battery again. This time the battery was actually new - just one cycle and a capacity of 1568mAh. The new battery is performing great and again the swap took very little time. Overall, I think this shop does good work for a reasonable price, but originally being sold a used battery is a bit sketchy. The tech said he'd be using this app to make sure his batteries were truly new, so hopefully they follow through on that. read more

The service I received from this establishment was repugnant. After visiting the day before and having my phone, for lack of a better term, mangled by the associate I returned to have my phone restored to its former glory only to have the same associate I worked with claim he no longer spoke English. He also seemed to develop a case of temporary amnesia as he could not remember mangling my phone or agreeing to repair it. They were rude and dismissive of me and the level of disrespect they showed toward me boarders criminal. My recommendation to anyone looking to have their phone repaired at this establishment would be to find 5 year old with a roll of duck tape because that child will likely be more effective and treat you with at least an ounce of respect. read more
