As a student at UT, I am truly unimpressed with their level of service. Do not go to this business with your laptop or any device that needs to be fixed.  I wanted to get an estimate of what needed to be fixed and how much it would cost to fix my laptop. I submitted an online ticket and dropped off my laptop. I heard no update all weekend or on Monday, so I called on Tuesday morning when they opened at 10 a.m., stating I would be picking up my laptop and looking at other places to get an estimate. SURE ENOUGH someone had picked up my laptop right after I left a voicemail stating I was unsatisfied with the timeframe, received no updates on my laptop, and was taking my business elsewhere. I was charged $50 for someone to "look at it" when I didn't want the service anymore. I had to pay the $50 to get the laptop, and I called THREE different numbers multiple times to stop the process, but that was clearly ignored.  This business is no good for UT students who need their laptops fixed quickly, efficiently, and at a reasonable price. They were going to charge me $300 for service and replacement. In comparison, I went down the street to 1Up Repairs and was quoted $170.  Overall, I am frustrated with receiving no updates, finally getting in contact with someone after the service I did not want was completed, and the service charge of $50 that was not known unless you scroll to the very bottom of the website and then it states it in very small letters. They scam people out of $50 and try to say, "It says it on the website and every time we call." Well, I never received a call back from the 15 calls and voicemails I left until the inspection was completed, so I never got to hear that they would charge me $50 for an inspection. read more

I've used PC Genie in the past (a few years back) and had no problems. This time was a different story. Jeremy was available to help me replace my computer screen and charged me $75 for the standard screen part and $99 for the labor. Ok, cool. I dropped off the computer on December 14th and he let me know that he would communicate with me when it was repaired and ready for pick-up. Two weeks later, no word. Finally, I reached out to him via text message and he let me know the repair was complete and he was verifying it, and that I should be able to pick it up later that day, time unspecified. Awesome, but he said he would tell me when it's ready. How long had it been ready? Did he only jump on it when I bugged him about it? Had it been chilling on the back-burner the whole time? Or fixed and forgotten until I texted about it? I'll never know. I went by the office in the Dobie Mall later that day, and it was closed. No communication from Jeremy about the early closure (it closed at 3 pm instead of 5). I went by the following Tuesday (today, the date this review is posted)!and it was open, but my computer wasn't there. The receptionist called him and he arranged to drop it off at my apartment. He said to her that he would come by on the way to the office, before 3 pm. I double-checked with him after I got home, and the drop-off time shifted to 5:30 pm. I got really clear with him about my frustration and he offered to bring it by at 3:30 pm. In a surprising turn of events, he brought it by a little after 3 pm. The repair looked solid. I also realized that he charged me for a standard display, but upgraded me to the touch display. Bottom line, I need the people I trust with my computer (and my livelihood, as an entrepreneur) be more forthcoming in terms of communication with his customers, during every step of the repair process, from drop-off to pick-up. Also, consistently practicing integrity in terms of doing what he says he's going to do, when he is going to do it. He really went above and beyond in terms of rectifying the delay by apologizing, hand-delivering the computer, and providing a free upgrade, but all I really wanted was clear, consistent communication so I knew what to expect. All the stuff he did to rectify the delay in terms of eating up his time, gas, and money would have been unnecessary if he just kept me in the loop! I try not to get too stressed about stuff, but being in the dark about what to expect regarding when I was gonna get my computer back bothered me. Edit: Jeremy forgot to put the screws back in the body of my laptop when he repaired it and now it pries itself apart whenever I open it. Sigh. read more

Horrendous customer service and non-existent technical skills. They charged me $170 to install a faulty battery in my macbook that shuts off randomly between 20-40%. I brought it in to Apple and they told me whoever installed it used a non-new battery that was already nearing the end of it's life. When I brought this up to PC Genie, they told me to get lost and that my warranty was voided for no good reason. The whole "business" reeks of unprofessionalism and frankly seems more like a scam than an actual repair shop. They don't even have a real store, just a coworking space with a 'receptionist' who was more confused about how they work than I was. read more

PC Genie did a great job fixing my computer of some serious problems. I had downloaded cleaning software and tried all kinds of fixes for the problem myself without success. The communication with PC Genie was seamless, and Jeremy answered all my questions patiently. Upon calling PC Genie, I was instantly impressed with the knowledge and thoroughness of the technician, Willie. I've been having really random and weird issues with my 2008 Dell that runs on Vista. Willie is very patient in explaining all the possible problems that are normally associated with the "symptoms" I'm having. It's Christmas time, and I'm in desperate need of my computer to be functioning, but without much time to be without it. He got my computer up & running overnight, and has been in contact with me via email to try & help with other issues (updating my iPhone 4 with the new iOS 5 software- and iTunes not cooperating). Once I get wrapped up with the Christmas stuff I'm working on, I'm bring BOTH my computers in and having Willie completely reinstall windows, add RAM, etc etc... His prices are competitive, service is very professional and thorough, and he SHARES his knowledge with you so that you are better able to understand how these darn things work, and why things can go wrong! I had a negative experience at PC Genie but I am giving 3 stars for prompt turn-around and courteous conversation. This negative review is intended mainly to help them improve their service which is probably fine overall. My desktop PC stopped working suddenly, and I brought it into PC Genie for troubleshooting. They called not long after and told me they were pretty sure I needed a new motherboard (this is a huge expense), and that it may cost even more than normal to work on my PC because it's a custom PC. The person working my computer sounded awkward and inexperienced on the phone, so I really didn't trust their feedback and decided to get a second opinion from a friend. My friend did a basic test of each of the main components in my PC, and noticed the computer booted up fine simply by removing my crappy $10 FireWire card. Voila, problem solved. In this case, I have to clearly fault PC-Genie's efforts because it seems to me that they simply didn't test my computer's few basic components methodically and patiently. In a similar vein, the boot disc which they left in my desktop hard drive was very damaged with food stains. The dirty boot disc was disheartening particularly because it could very well give a false positive by failing to boot in a customer's PC, leading PC-Genie to believe hardware repairs are necessary. As I mentioned above, PC Genie was friendly and prompt with their diagnostic service so I do appreciate this is a good, decent business, and their charge for diagnostic efforts is perfectly fair under normal circumstances. read more

A short summary of the service I received would be as follows: I gave them a laptop with a simple broken screen issue, and two months later he gave me back a laptop with not only a broken screen, but a broken motherboard (a much much more expensive and complicated issue). On top of it all, he charged me for breaking my computer. I had to spend so much time, money, and emotional effort in every stage of the laptop recovery process, with one failed attempt after another. In addition to his incompetence, he was highly unprofessional. When I raised legitimate concerns about the direction the repair was going, he would get angry at me, even without me initially being angry. I was very patient throughout the whole process and only complained towards the end when he claimed that the root of the issue was that my screen was a touchscreen, and he had replaced my screen with a non touch screen. He claimed that it was MY RESPONSIBILITY to tell him about the touchscreen, and was angry at me, the customer, for not doing so. I do not see what logic could lead one to make a conclusion like his. First, touch screens are the norm nowadays. Second, he could have easily verified whether my laptop model comes with a touchscreen, if this was such a crucial piece of information. Third, it is never on the customer to provide any information besides the problem itself - it is the responsibility of the service provider to request any relevant information, because as the customer I'm not sure what it is relevant and what is not! Overall, he is unknowledgeable, sloppy, incompetent and unprofessional. Right now I need to repair my motherboard to extract important information from the laptop, which will cost me hundreds of dollars. I have already filed an FTC complaint about this business, and hope it will be penalized. I will seek every avenue possible in consumer affairs to hopefully get PC genie to pay for this, because what he did to me should literally be criminalized. read more

Recently used PC Genie for my boss' computer that crashed. Called him up and he was fast, flexible, inexpensive, and close. I brought in the computer and he hooked it up to his equipment. I originally thought it was either the mother board or the internal power supply....turns out it was both!! I had previously told Willie if it was anything over $200 then I didn't want to fix the computer, we would just get a new one. Willie went ahead and called Dell to verify prices of parts which were over the $200 we wanted to spend. He didn't pressure me to use him, but paid him small fee to put our data onto disk. He was great, experienced, helpful, and overall would definitely use him again once we have other computer problems!! read more

In August I got water into my laptop and ruined the hard drive. I went to this store because of all the good reviews, but later realized that all the positive reviews are basically from people *who only have software issues* and are happy to get out with $25. But from my experience, he said (or didn't say) a couple things that are deliberately misleading and my computer is not completely fixed. All these years I'm able to fix my software problems myself with help from Google and my friends, and only had to come to a repair shop when I had to open the computer up. The guy was quick to find out that my hard drive was broken, but I was hesitant to change it because I was worried that something more expensive might be broken too. He offered to run diagnostics for $25 if I didn't change the hard drive, and it would be free if I bought the hard drive from him, which was nice but really one the two good things I can say about this store. (The other things is, they gave me the old hard drive back without me asking. I appreciate it.) He also asked me what size of new hard drive I'm getting. Perhaps because I didn't even remember the size of my original hard drive and that I'm a girl, he decided that I knew nothing about computers. He said he didn't carry my original hard drive, he could order it but I had to wait 3-4 days. Of course I wanted my computer back ASAP, so I bought a 300GB one for $90. I only thought the price was okay because it includes the diagnostics and all the work. The next day, he did call me as promised to tell me that the diagnostics came out okay and ask whether I wanted to change my hard drive. "Yes!! Can I come back tomorrow to pick it up?" "I have to order the hard drive so it will be a couple days." I thought you said you had it in store! Anyway, I agreed to wait and got it back a couple days later. However, when the bill came, it was $165 instead of $90, because he also charged $75 for installing the OS. He NEVER mentioned this extra charge or asked me whether I wanted it (I know perfectly well how to install an OS, though I'm a girl and don't care how big my hard drive is because it never ran out). I wanted to argue with him right on spot, was thought that he did do the work and saved me a couple hours. I realized that my laptop was noticeably slower than before though I used it completely the same way, and it froze on a blue screen twice in the next few days, with a warning message that something might be improperly installed. My friends told me it was probably some stability issues because my other parts was indeed soaked in water too, and things might not have come up during his diagnostics. I have rarely seen the blue screen again later, but now my computer would die every 1-2 weeks, sometimes more often: something (the hard drive or fan?) would start making a big noise and I can still use the front window, like if I'm on chrome I can still open a new tab, but I couldn't restart my computer through the start menu, open up the task manager etc, they would just freeze on me. This definitely looks more like a software issue to me, and my friends suggested -- you guessed -- to reinstall Windows. lol. I don't know if it's a hardware or software problem yet, but either was it seems to their problem, not mine. I'm waiting on finishing up a project in 1-2 weeks to reinstall it so I don't need Latex soon after. The 2 stars, for now, was for lying to me about the availability of parts and the hidden fees. I'm also thinking about returning to the store when I'm ready for reinstallation to undo it and give me a refund, or redo it (but honestly, I don't have confidence in them any more and would prefer to do it myself this time.) read more

After a quick diagnosis of the problem, plus offering a solution requiring a brief wait, Willie asked if it was okay for him to help the person who came in after. Willie spent perhaps 10 minutes figuring out the problem for the other customer, offering the suggestion that if the person was able, he could go to a retailer to purchase the needed part and install it himself. Otherwise, it would take a few days for the part to come in. The customer opted to do it himself. Willie's charge... nothing. Amazing. This is not to suggest Willie works for free. It's a testament to honesty, integrity and the willingness to be of service. That sold me. And, he fixed my computer's problem immediately, charging a fair and reasonable price for the part and his installation. Though I hope to not need his services again, it just may be necessary. If you're in Austin, this is the best place (because of Willie) to get your computer repaired - you won't regret it, I promise. As a CS major at UT Austin, after my friend mentioned my laptop (lenovo x200) seemed slow and that I should clean out the dust in the fan to prevent overheating, I opened my laptop for the first time. The chips and wires were so cool, but now somehow my laptop took 30 minutes to boot to the login screen. I tried everything I could that I learned from the internet (deleting files, trying to get to the BIOS) but none of it worked. I was about to show up to this other computer store near Guadalupe just because it had more ratings/reviews on Yelp (but a lot of people felt ripped off going there). So instead I showed up at PC Genie on a Saturday. Willie was extremely kind and didn't even bring up how much repair would cost until the time was right - he cared about my laptop first, profits second. Willie is an extremely curious guy, knows the ins and outs of any computer (in fact, he used to major in CS too!), will actually explain to you exactly what he thinks is wrong in your computer and what is causing that problem (by the time you exit, you will trust him, understand your laptop is in good hands, and feel almost like a computer expert yourself). He told me fairly that my boot problem was not a common problem, would be put in a queue (first laptop in his store is the first laptop out - fifo), and that it would take till Wednesday to fix. Willie's store name is PC Genie because in other languages, Genie actually means genius - and back home, Willie could fix ANY computer problem, so his friends called him Genie. Sure, I wanted my laptop done on the day of, but I didn't want to spend $1,500 on a new macbook just yet so I preferred to wait on the repair. My laptop is 5 years old, but I want to run it to the ground before getting its replacement. And sure enough, Willie's pricing are extremely fair: $25 for diagnostics, a $75 charge to fix the laptop/install parts if you decide to take action on changing parts, and then the price of the parts. He is with you every step of the way and won't install parts without your agreement - so never fear being overcharged or having your laptop abused without you. I got an email from him on Tuesday (instead of the predicted Wednesday) stating that my laptop was fixed. I work during the summer, so I had to scramble to the store if I wanted to get my laptop before the store closes (6pm). But I got back on Guadalupe at around 6:20pm and luckily, The PC Genie, Willie, was still hard at work and just about to close the store for the day to meet his wife for dinner. But kindly, Willie called his wife to tell her he had one more customer to help. He told me he had found the problem for my 30 minute to boot laptop - he reset the jumper because my laptop was stuck in BIOS (see, he does explain things really clearly so that almost everyone can understand) - something that I could never figure out on my own. He said it took him about 10-15 minutes to find and fix this problem - PC genius indeed. The total came out to be $25 for the "diagnostics" when really it should have said "$25 for diagnostics, computer lessons, and repair fee". If I ever need any computer fixed or have a friend who does - I'd recommend Willie in a heartbeat. Good person, great service, and incredible skills. read more

I have a hard time giving this place a one star since I support small business.Willie the gentlemen I spoke with on the phone explained everything that needed to be done with my laptop and made me feel really comfortable on the phone with his level of education in computers. He diagnosis the computer and charged me $25.00 which he would credit if you have services done. When I returned he said that the registry was corrupted and I needed to do a system re-install. I asked what does that include he said only your documents, music, movies and that I would need to pay an additional fee to have any other programs re-installed so we are looking at a cost of over $100.00. I explained to him that the laptop was not worth the money. These are my issues what I'm not paying for your overhead it's highly unreasonable to charge such a high cost for an electronic item that update and gets faster, better and thinner so we know in the electronic world that computer are a lot like a vehicle once you get it out the store it depreciates. What am I paying for location? maybe it would be suitable to move to a location that is further away from campus to make your prices more reasonable for the large concentration of students (whom do not have a great deal of money) but they cater to you. And liking you as a person has nothing to do with me spending over $100.00 to fix a laptop that is 2 years old and that is needed only for ITUNES. I was really uncomfortable with him asking What do I plan on doing with the computer? He did not fix it due to the high cost he was charging and asking me what I'm gonna do with it made me feel like he wanted me to sell it to him. I have NEVER in my entire electronic history encountered someone who asked me what I plan on doing with an item that they can't fix due to overpricing. So I did not feel like I wanted to continue my business with him. My laptop screen needed to be replaced so I searched Yelp and Angie's List on reviews of local shops that could help me. I took my computer in last week and Willie was knowledgeable, helpful and explained everything. I took my laptop in and he showed me what was broken and needed to be replaced. He ordered a replacement screen, called before to tell me how much it would cost, and less than a week later my computer is up and running. $185 for the entire process. Ok, I left these guys a pretty scathing review last week. But I'm here to bump them up from 1 star to 4. They seriously stepped up their game after partially botching a data recovery and made everything right, including personally delivering my fixed and recovered equipment to my home. They still have punctuality issues (their shop is very rarely open at their posted open hours in my experience), so no 5 stars, but I was impressed with the effort they went to to fix my (apparently) tricky data recovery issues. read more

Do not go here under any circumstance. Don't do it. I never post reviews but this felt extremely necessary to go out of my way and download this app to warn other people not to go here. Jeremy is dishonest. You do not want to waste your hard-earned money on this guy. The hassle and inconvenience he put me through as a customer is not how anyone should run a business. The first part only talks about how bad their customer service was, but I will also get into how I spent $500 on a computer that broke again within weeks. Back in April, I got an email from Jeremy letting me know my computer is ready. I come in around 4pm. They close at 5pm. After speaking with the front desk lady, she calls Jeremy about my computer. She then tells me to come back at 4:50pm (which was around 50 minutes at the time) and my computer will be ready. That seemed odd. I figured it'd be ready like he said. So I grab a bite to eat and come back right at 4:50pm. The lady now seemed hesitant. She calls Jeremy. She then tells me that he ordered the wrong part and that itll take another week to repair. (It actually took 3 more weeks due to their incompetency). I was pretty livid now. She told me that Jeremy sent me an email after I had left to tell me that they ordered the wrong part as if that was supposed to justify their deceptive motive. They emailed me well in advance to let me know my computer was ready. You cant rely on the customer to look at his email between 4pm and 4:50pm the same day. It was almost like they were relying on me to look at my email after they screwed up while hoping I wouldnt come back the same day. I am trying to comprehend why you would tell your customer their computer is ready when it really wasn't. How does that even happen? And I also understand that mistakes happen and parts need to be reordered. But for them to make me wait an extra 50 minutes when they knew good and well it wasnt going to be ready by 5pm is horrible business. Why go out of their way to make someone wait essentially an extra hour for no good reason. It should not take long to realize you ordered the wrong part. That's not even a technical issue. That's a basic issue to where it should take minutes to figure out. How can you look someone in the eye and tell them to wait an extra 50 minutes when you knew beforehand that it wouldn not be ready Haha so im not even finished. It gets 10X WORSE. I needed my computer repaired by the end of April at the time because my college encourages us to bring our own computers when we test. Using the school computers are a hassle, so I was hoping everything would be done by the beginning of May in hopes of taking my final exams on my computer. Jeremy was in fact successful in getting my computer back to me before those tests. After those tests in May, I didnt need to use my laptop again until July because I had a 10 page research paper due at the end of summer. When the time came around mid-July to start my paper, my computer wouldn't turn on... Lol seriously... So then I inform Jeremy and he offers to take a look at it again. He initially brings up a hinge on my computer as if i dropped my a second time..? Which was odd that he would bring up that. I paid him $500 initially to replace the motherboard the first time. We already fixed that problem... so when he mentioned a hinge remark a second time, I could tell something was off. So now he's using this "hard fall hinge" as leverage So the million dollar question is when he initially did a DIAGNOSTIC CHECK on my computer, why didnt you bring any of this up? The hinge was there the first time you fixed my motherboard. It didnt magically appear the next time you looked at my computer. Why would you fix my motherboard for $500 knowing good and well that the hinge was not worth replacing in the long run when you initially did a diagnostic check. He also brought up how my computer was misaligned. YOU MISALIGNED MY COMPUTER. My computer was never misaligned. When you opened my computer back up the times you attempted to fix it is when it misaligned. Don't waste your time with Jeremy. The sad part is there's really nothing I can do about this. Someone dishonest like him will just deny everything and blame the customer for his inept skills. All I wanted was my computer to be fixed, but in return I got broken computer while being out $500. All you had to do was tell me the hinge wasnt worth repairing. I woulda used that $500 on a new computer. PS - I absolutely cannot wait to see how youll justify not being able to see the hinge on my computer before. It was literally in plain sight while replacing the motherboard initially.... Or will you perhaps blame me by saying I dropped it again? You would think after spending $500 on a repaired item that one would do everything they can to avoid having your computer to be repaired again. read more

Tim was very helpful! I brought my laptop in because the screen was blacking out / glitching. Fortunately it was just a one time thing, and it began working perfectly as soon as I brought it in to the shop (must be magic!). He was able to explain to me the possibilities of what could have caused my issue and tips for what to do if it happens again. I was very appreciative of his time and he seems like a very genuine guy who really enjoys helping other and is passionate about computers. I went to this shop to get a new screen for my laptop. They had mentioned that they would contact in 4/5 business days to let me know the expenses detail. I waited for two weeks and called them and was told they could not start working on my laptop. I was annoyed as it was the only laptop I had. I even mentioned it to Tim when I left it in the shop. Then after few days of repeated calling I got the expense details and I immediately approved it. However, it took another two weeks for them to get the parts from the seller. Finally, when the parts reached they took some more time to work on my laptop. So, in the end I kept my laptop with these people for MORE THAN A MONTH (I was initially told it would take 7-10 days)!! Highly unprofessional time management on their part. If you have a single laptop, DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE, as you will be stranded without a laptop for months! How can I forget about the rude phone calls I had to bear with. They had clearly mentioned if I do not get my laptop fixed by them there will be a huge diagnostic charge slapped on me. I mean I know my screen needed to be replaced, so I did not need any diagnosis. All I asked you was to fix it. And you did not do it for a month. Finally, when I confronted them that they actually lied every time about the time limit, the person went mad and literally howled and disconnected the phone and said "do not call me again". Too much of unprofessional behavior. My laptop was fixed after this and he offered some discount for delaying things and messing up. However, I DO NOT APPROVE such poor customer handling. If you mess up so badly with your customer, you should be ready to listen to their grudges. If you were tied up with too much of work, you should have said "no" when I went to give you my laptop. You should have not committed to that 7/10 days timeline. Finally, shouting at customers does not do any good. read more

I went into PC Genie on October 19, 2015 because one of the corners of my laptop was damaged after one of my work flights--the top left corner had a gap that was slowly worsening every time I opened and closed my laptop. I won't get into technical details here but basically I had to replace the bottom case and the palm rest of my laptop replaced. The repair quote: the PC Genie technician informed me about the repairs and broke down the costs for me which included handling of the motherboard and various internal hardwards and purchasing the two parts (base & palm rest). He also informed me that normally replacing the base and palm rest are two separate repair jobs and would normally charge twice for the handling of the internal hardwares but waived it for me since they're already inside the laptop to do one of the repairs. Cool. Makes sense. I approved and gave the go-ahead on October 21st (the same day I received the quote). The service: when I came to pick up my laptop on November 2nd, THE CORNER STILL HAD THE GAP. I had to wait there for another 10ish minutes for the technician to readjust the screws. I paid my dues (very very expensive) and went home. At home, I discovered that two out of the four rubber bubbles (the things that keeps your laptop from sliding around) at the bottom of my laptop are MISSING. This was supposed to be a NEW bottom base. WHY ARE PARTS MISSING? I also noticed that the palm rest had two bulging spots by the speaker area where the screws were tightened too tightly and dented it from the inside out. When I took my laptop back to get the rubber bubbles replaced and pointed out the aesthetic defect, PC Genie promptly fixed the bottom case issue but can't do anything about the DAMAGE the technician has done to my NEW palm rest. I tried to ask for a partial refund for the defect but to no avail. He even reminded me that they've already discounted one of the two handling fees. I didn't try to put up a fight though because I was on a time crunch, and I believe that businesses should be quick to keep customers happy. I won't ask twice. In sum, why did I pay hundreds of dollars for PC Genie to waste my time, I don't know, but I will not be going back there. I didn't give this experience a one-star because the talks I had with the technician were courteous. He was very level-headed and informative. read more

These guys are sweethearts! More importantly they know what they're doing, they tolerated my broken techy language and translated it accurately.. I now have my beloved Sony Vaio back in action performing at it's best in years. They offer their own anti-virus software if you're interested. It's working out great for me. read more

Had a cracked screen on my laptop and went in to talk about options for repairing without spending more than the computer was worth! Both staff members were incredibly helpful and patient. Seemed as if they cared just as much as I did that it start functioning again! While no "work" was done on the computer, we got it functioning again and they let me go free of charge! read more

They installed a new O/S on my old desktop. It went very smoothly and they backed up everything up just in case at a small extra charge. They were easy to work with - I was able to reach them and check in. It took a couple days longer than stated, but that's because they were doing some remodeling in their office. The problem mentioned in previous review temporary "solved" in an extremely unhappy way: I get $100 and lose my computer temporary. I will leave this city very soon and I am not sure I can claim more compensate anymore. But I will keep trying to do so. The computer guy in PC Genie is over-confident about his skill in repairing computer. He is not good at all problem of all computer brand (at least ASUS computer which is not common in U.S.) and the way he talk to me and his attitude after my computer have more serious damages is a long lasting nightmare for me. What's more, he does not have the necessary parts needed for repairing which is the major reason he refuse to repair the additional damage he did to my laptop. I also have a question (will be cited below): why PC Genie has so many used computers which he want to sell to me for the so called ridiculous "compensate"????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, I might not be the first one and the only one in the similar cases. There must be many other victims!!!! PC Genie keep the costumer's computer to make money. This is my first time in United States to look for computer repair service which brings me extreme bad memory. The service I receive from PC Genie break the record of the worse service I have ever received in my life. I will never trust any private computer repair service in United State for the rest of my life. What's more, I will tell all friends in U.S: Do not to send your computer to any private computer services especially the PC Genie. Send it to factory even if the warranty is expired and they will charge you more. Because no matter how much money you spend you can at least get your computer work or get a similar model they have. The business keep the computer do not mean he can decompose the computer and sell it. If this happen, my question mentioned above make sense!!!!!! I am still hoping I can get more money back which $100 is not the market value for this computer or get my laptop back. Once I visit a ASUS maintenance center in China or U.S. I can ask the mechanic of ASUS to identify how was the mother board damaged. In A better expectation: get my laptop repaired with parts of the payment by PC Genie. Why he is not willing to get my laptop back, what I concern in the abovementioned question make sense. read more

I read the great reviews about this place before dropping my laptop off. All I can say is they are absolutely true. Rocky and the gang over at PC Genie are the real deal. They are honest, hard working, thorough guys. They don't over charge for parts or service. They actually find ways to SAVE their customers money instead. They do what it takes to make their customers very happy and it shows in everything they do. This will be the ONLY place I bring my laptop in the future. This guy rocks. Took computer in, and he checked it out to the N'th degree. He tightened up stuff, did not try to sell me ANYTHING I didn't need, and came in about $50 under quote. I just got the feeling this guy loves computers and really loves making them work and is happy to make a living doing it. I hope I don't need him again but take comfort knowing he's there. read more

TLDR: This isn't a full 5 stars because they messed up their time management and greatly delayed my repair. Looking at the other reviews, this seems to be a very common occurrence. Otherwise, Tim was friendly, helpful, informative and very honest. My laptop screen had some water damage. I dropped it off on 17 Dec. I would be away over the holidays and Tim said he'd order the necessary part the next day, and it'd definitely be ready by the 1st of Jan when I'd pick it up. I came back in Jan and heard that they hadn't got to it yet. On the 5th he sent me a revised invoice because my laptop screen cannot be disassembled, so the entire screen has to be ordered, and this raised my bill quite a lot. I went ahead with it anyway. Tim paid for the expedited delivery charge because of the delay. The 'overnight' delivery took two more nights, and I finally got my laptop back on the 9th of January, a full 23 days after I dropped it off. The repair had required the ordering of a screen and a simple assembly. I had lost over a week that I badly needed for work before the semester started. When I went to collect my laptop, I asked Tim what had happened. He said he'd just somehow forgotten about it and messed up basically. He took off $20 from the labour charge for his mistake. Although this mistake and the delay left quite a bad taste in my mouth, I would go to them again for repairs. And the reason is that this one thing aside, I could clearly tell that Tim operates a very honest and transparent business. He may have completely messed up on the delivery, but he was friendly and informative at every point, and never hid information or decisions about the repair if you are qualified to understand it. And for me, it's a far more important factor to be able to trust a business than freak mistakes like these. read more
