TLDR: This isn't a full 5 stars because they messed up their time management and greatly delayed my repair. Looking at the other reviews, this seems to be a very common occurrence. Otherwise, Tim was friendly, helpful, informative and very honest. My laptop screen had some water damage. I dropped it off on 17 Dec. I would be away over the holidays and Tim said he'd order the necessary part the next day, and it'd definitely be ready by the 1st of Jan when I'd pick it up. I came back in Jan and heard that they hadn't got to it yet. On the 5th he sent me a revised invoice because my laptop screen cannot be disassembled, so the entire screen has to be ordered, and this raised my bill quite a lot. I went ahead with it anyway. Tim paid for the expedited delivery charge because of the delay. The 'overnight' delivery took two more nights, and I finally got my laptop back on the 9th of January, a full 23 days after I dropped it off. The repair had required the ordering of a screen and a simple assembly. I had lost over a week that I badly needed for work before the semester started. When I went to collect my laptop, I asked Tim what had happened. He said he'd just somehow forgotten about it and messed up basically. He took off $20 from the labour charge for his mistake. Although this mistake and the delay left quite a bad taste in my mouth, I would go to them again for repairs. And the reason is that this one thing aside, I could clearly tell that Tim operates a very honest and transparent business. He may have completely messed up on the delivery, but he was friendly and informative at every point, and never hid information or decisions about the repair if you are qualified to understand it. And for me, it's a far more important factor to be able to trust a business than freak mistakes like these. read more

A jewel in the Austin crown is the only way to describe PC Genie. A Windows update caused an audio problem in YouTube that numerous websites could not explain. I spent hours trying to find a solution in Google, talking to our Internet provider and checking our computer hookups. The technician I spoke to was very courteous. He then tried to find a solution and instead of giving up and telling me I had to bring in the computer, he walked me through some setting options and solved the YouTube problem. If this every happens again I will know what to do to resolve the issue. Most repair stores will not assist people over the phone but this technician spent the time and effort and was determined to help me resolve the audio issue. Tim was very friendly, helpful, and answered all of my questions. He thoroughly looked at my laptop to ensure there wasn't anything he could do to fix it, before researching screens. He got back to me in a few days with the price of the screen/service fee. The total came out to $200 (When I called Best Buy, it would have been at least $500 total...most likely more). Fast, friendly, professional & affordable.....Had a malware issue that wasn't prevented by my anti virus program....and it prevented use of Malware Bytes to repair. I found PC Genie to have high rating's online (ie Google) and knew once I took my desktop in that I'd made the right call. Willie immedietely went to work to check machine & document my computer's issues...upon confirming issues he gave me a work order ticket & said he would callback within a few days when it was ready. True to his word he called back 1 1/2 days later. He had found the malware, and also over 100 virus or trojan related files that it had allowed onto my system!. He cleaned off all traces of those, installed a more effective anti virus, improved performance, cleaned out accumulated dust at no addtl charge...all done for the original estimate! Keep in mind that their location is not on the street, but inside the shared work-space, where you can leave your computer any kind, with any problem in the front desk, with a short desription of the matter. They create an online profile for you in their cloud office, where you can set payments, shipments, deliveries, remarks, email chat, live chat... everything. Nothing is done until you confirm costs, solutions etc. Very quick in responding! I was in a hurry, cause flying out on a Monday, JEREMY took the extra mile and personally hand delivered me my laptop on a Saturday evening, so I could make my flight! Thank you! PC Genie is awesome! Willie and his staff are great. My computer had several viruses that they were able to take care of. One of the viruses was even attacking my operating system. After getting permission to do anything to my computer he was able to knock out all the viruses, backed up my programs and documents, and then re-installed a new operating system. He did this with no additional charge too! The only drawback to this whole experience was that it took about a week to get my system back, but hey, you can't rush perfection! read more

Willie was extremely knowledgeable and patient. On his computer screen he showed me a picture of what could be wrong. He explained the different prices depending on what he found out once he opened up the laptop. He didn't just tell me I needed a new power jack, but tried to keep my costs low by trying to solder it back together instead of buying a new part. The price was very reasonable. I had taken my laptop to a repair shop in Buda for an estimate and they said it would cost me $180 for a new power jack plus labor. I called another store and they quoted me $125 minimum. Willie only charged me a total of $75. $25 for the new power jack and $50 for labor. Big price difference! read more

Im giving these guys a 2 star because of the service I experienced in November 2014. I feel bad because they were very apologetic but it is what it is. Ill keep it short but I dropped off my computer on a Monday and I told the guy I was flying out of town and that I would be back on Friday. I had some issues with my PC that needed fixing. They said they would get to it and it would be done in a few days. ... Friday comes around and they call and tell me that they haven't started on my computer and that they would be able to start on it that day. I was furious. "You've had it for 5 days and youre starting ti now" I said, they replied "well we got really busy and didn't have time" ... This is really the gist of the story and Ill spare you the finer details, but later on Friday I came in and picked it up and ask him why he could have called me earlier in the week or have the parts at least ordered so that we didn't have to wait so long once they did have time. Anyway I felt bad, they were genuinely busy and didn't have time to even look at my computer. By the way, anyone who doesn't have their computer knows, that you need a computer to do anything these days, having down time and going to kinkos is just not an option. Zero stars if I could. Stay away. Their performance is poor, their customer service is even worse. We needed to get a cracked screen replaced on a laptop. Apparently they were having problem(s) with technicians, which caused a delay in repairing the computer. This was not explained to us when the computer was dropped off. Weeks later they called us to tell us it was ready. Except the touchscreen was not working. So we had them try again, more delay. The next time we were told it was ready, it was not yet re-assembled. More delay without even an apology. We just went to pick it up for the third time. Par for the course, there was nobody there for at least 25 minutes after opening time (don't know what time they actually showed, we had gone to run other errands). Now, there is a smudge of some sort on the inside of the screen that the technician did not notice until we pointed it out. The answer to that problem? You got it, let them try again. No thank you. I actually need to use my device. This process took nearly two months and PC Genie wasnot concerned about the timeline or their ability to "make things right." My advice to you...Stay away unless you have money and time to burn. Oh yeah, and low expectations too. read more

Tim is great! Very friendly, helpful, polite, thorough, and fast. I brought my laptop in because my disc drive was broken, but like broken things tend to do when you take them to be fixed, it worked fine once I got there. Tim took the time to wait and try a few times (probably 10-15 minutes) for my drive to act up. Then he politely informed me it was called an optical drive. He explained everything he was going to do to my laptop in detail, making sure I understood, and he was never exasperated or condescending (computers are hard for me). My laptop was done when he said it would be, at the price he said it would be (which he also explained in detail) and he was very communicative in keeping me up to date on the repair process. If I ever have another problem with my laptop, I'm taking it to Tim. I never thought I'd say "I wish I lived closer to West Campus" but I am, because you can't beat this service. read more

Incredibly fast & helpful. Tim didn't laugh when he realized I didn't know how to shut down (cold) my laptop after all these years: he was really nice, & since that was all it took to fix my problem, he didn't even charge me. While he was at it, he gave me numerous tips about my battery, installing software, anti-virus software, & he even ran a couple of software updates for me. Nice people but they just don't do what they say... Brought my all in one in 3 times for the same problem the boot wasn't working for $210 each visit in a year and a half is crazy...I hear the drive is under warranty yet it still cost me the same price... I'm stupid I know but I loves the "27 inch" screen size and the webcams were nice can't find them nowhere... All in all they've taught me to just buy a new one and let go I don't like that because I did really simple home stuff nothing new... I think when you pay for something to get fixed at least a few years instead of a few months is reasonable... read more

If i could i would give this guy negative stars. If i could i would make little stars fly in circles over his head. I had just arrived to Austin for work when i had problem with the hard drive of my laptop. i needed a quick fix so i started calling around from companies listed on Yelp. Don't know why i settled on this guy other than he was the only computer repair person in Austin that actually answers the phone...pickins really slim in DELL country. So, i dropped off my laptop and believed in the promised 48 hour turn around. What was to be 2 days ended up being almost 5 days. I didn't know why until later. First off, the guy couldn't install Windows on the new laptop hard drive he was using as my replacement. Then, after I didn't get it back, i discovered he never called me to ask me what name i wanted as the hard drive name. He took it upon himself to name my hard drive from the first thing that came to his mind. I'm a patient guy so it let these and the extra 3 day wait slide. It's the last thing that now has caused me to give others a warning. It turns out this guy chose the absolute cheapest of the cheap hard drives as my brand new laptop hard drive so he could keep his expenses low and make the most profit he could at my expense, and what i paid wasn't cheap...almost $400. That's why he couldn't mount the operating system. That's also the reason why the hard drive won't play video without pixelation, and is slow, really slow and a torture to use...all things that never occurred before i let this guy touch my laptop. I am livid right now. Look elsewhere and save yourself an unexpected headache! Don't waste your money! read more

willie was wonderful! he worked hard to fix my computer... which became more difficult than necessary due to Apple sending him a defective replacement keyboard. he was persistent and kept me posted every time he was going to do something we hadn't already discussed. he also loaned me a keyboard to use until we waited for the replacement to come in. all in all, a very friendly, professional, and helpful guy. definitely recommended. read more
