We bought a refurbished Dell computer from this business after our older refurbished Dell machine died. They transferred our data to this newer machine, installing Windows 11, which resulted in a common problem: only one of us (the original "administrator") could now open their documents. When we went back for help on this issue, the Repair Connection specialist washed his hands from it. He'd been paid already. Beyond that point he didn't seem to care. We ended up finding Frankenstein in North Austin, quite far from our home, but oh, such a difference in expertise and attitude! Problem solved, first trying to fix it remotely and failing, then taking old and new computer to Frankenstein. I do not intend to return to Computer Repair Connection. I recommend the Computer Repair Connection. Turnaround is fast, prices are reasonable, and Juan seems sincere. It all began when my son disassembled his out-of-warranty MSI gaming laptop ($2200 new) to replace the charging port. Unable to fix it, he shipped the motherboard to a guy who replaced the charging port ($60) but used so much glue the motherboard no longer fit properly in the case--the guy's advice was to drill a hole in the case, which we didn't do. Instead, my son put the motherboard in without closing the case and then botched the reassembly to where nothing worked. (Laptops are apparently harder to repair than desktops.) Realizing my son wasn't cut out for this kind of work, I took his laptop to the Computer Repair Connection. Juan re-repaired the charging port, completely disassembled then reassembled the laptop, reinstalled the operating system, and reconfigured the settings. I got it back the next day for $200 ($99 for the rebuild and $99 for troubleshooting and software install--all labor, no parts), which was more than reasonable for the work required. (I've paid the Geek Squad far more for smaller problems, and they took much longer.) Juan updated me regularly and stuck to his estimate. A week later, after heavy gaming, the laptop still runs perfectly. I would definitely use Juan again. My only complaints, which are small, are that I emailed the shop in advance to see whether they felt the problem was fixable but received no reply; also, when dropping it off, my fiancé mentioned that the keyboard didn't work (a problem that predated the broken charging port), but the keyboard wasn't fixed and no one explained why. (My research suggests it's an expensive hardware problem, so I probably wouldn't have wanted it repaired anyway. It works fine with an external keyboard.) read more

I came back from Iceland with my laptop not working for some reason which had to do with the humidity somehow affecting the way my computer was working. I had no idea where to take my laptop to be repaired. So I went on yelp and found these guys. They are located close to Manchaca and Ben White and share the same building with a barbershop. I took my liquid cooled PC in for a diagnostic quote after the coolant leaked and got all over the GPUs and motherboard, mostly so I could give insurance a quote for replacement. However, after a little troubleshooting I was told it appeared to be working fine! They reseated the RAM... As an IT professional I'm somewhat ashamed I had not tried that as it's a quick and easy fix for a lot of things. But, given the leak, the coolant had not come into contact with the RAM and therefore I hadn't thought about that in the equation. I had an excellent experience with this business! It all started when my clumsy ass knocked over a giant mug of coffee pretty much into my MacBook Air. It immediately turned itself off and I cursed loudly for 5ish minutes while I tried to dry it. Hopped on the web to figure out what the "experts" recommended and followed their (what I know now was bad,) advice to air it out by placing it keyboard face down to drain and not touching it for 72ish hours. Tried it out after the 72 hour wait, and nothing! Thought it was a good plan to wait another 24 hours before checking it again...and still nothing! Finally reviewed computer repair yelp reviews and decided to call The Computer Repair Connection. Juan was extremely professional and extremely helpful from the start. He has tons of experience with liquid (and other) damage and as promised, called me the following day after I dropped it off to tell me what repairs he recommended and telling me their costs. He was very clear about pricing (extremely reasonable) and not pushy at all. He advised me that following the internet advice was bad in this case and that if liquid damage happens again, taking it in immediately is the best choice (to prevent the corrosion that comes with the long drying time I thought, incorrectly, was smart. Would not recommend. Brought my desktop computer in because the power supplies kept burning out. Specifically requested if they could pinpoint what was causing power supplies to fail as I have went through 3 in the past few months. They said that they could. Received a call a few days later saying that they couldn't figure out why the power supply was failing but it was indeed dead. I told them that I knew that, that we had discussed this in person and their job was to inspect the devices connected to the power supply to figure if anything was faulty. Said they couldn't do that. I came to pick up the computer and was upset that I was charged a diagnostic fee when they didn't really do the job that was requested. When I mentioned this I was told to just replace the motherboard. Kind of a BS answer, if I wanted to replace random parts I wouldn't have taken it to a shop to be looked at. Technical skills of the people here seemed pretty low. Don't bring your device here if your not completely illiterate with machines. Edit because there is no reply. My complaint is that I was charged after I clearly explained the issue and the desired testing. They said they could tell me the power output/consumption of the various hardware and ports and help determine if something was off. I don't know if y'all ever even opened the system because the same plugs were plugged in as when I left the pc. On the phone y'all told me that you didn't know and that ' I should probably replace the motherboard'. After I said that was not an acceptable response y'all said the power supply was dead, which I knew and told you, and still charged me. I spilled coffee on my Macbook keyboard... twice! I took it to an Apple store and they of course told me that the entire motherboard would need to be replaced, for a whopping $1400! Or of course I could just get a new computer. I was desperate to find another option, and these guys were so honest and up-front about what repairs would be possible. Omg!!!! Juan is a lifesaver. My boss' computer needed a simple screen replacement on his laptop. I called around for quotes and almost all of them gave me the speech of '$90 an hour with an hour minimum, 3-5 days to get the screen, not sure how much the screen will cost...' Then I called Computer Repair Connection. Juan told me about his $79 flat labor fee to fix the screen, that he most likely had the screen in his inventory, the price of the screen and that it would take 30 minutes to an hour total start to finish. Such a difference!! So I brought it in, he's such a nice guy, and he stood by his time and price quotes- in fact he did it all in about 15 minutes and I got out under $200! I will never bring back for repair my computer or refer anyone here, never, not EVEN for FREE. He charge $86.59 telling me the problem why my Wi-Fi will be on and off every other week was a virus. (It didn´t make much sense as I have antivirus) I ask for a guarantee, he won't give me one, as he say I can get another virus. Just a few weeks after again Wi-Fi broke and same issue on and off. I bring it to another place, and the problem was a configuration on the Network adapters, now is all good and working. Juan, the owner, was so rude to me when I ask questions, he will answer in a sarcastic way like. - Well, parts doesn't appear by magic, etc... Instead of providing answers for my concerns. *I posted this review on Google and got a pretty rude response back. I thought I had made it clear that I had already returned to West Africa by the time my computer acted up - it's not easy with our lack of internet and phone service to call the US to report a problem that can't be fixed remotely anyway. Also, contrary to Juan's response on Google, I thought I had made it clear that my computer hasn't HAD any viruses since he fixed it - at least not according to the virus software that he recommended. Due to his response, I'm only giving the business a 1 star on Yelp.* I used The Computer Repair Connection to repair my Lenovo laptop recently - we live in West Africa and it had been giving me problems for awhile (blue screen of death, telling me there were no boot drives when I restarted, etc). I decided on the The Computer Repair Connection because of the great reviews (both on Google and Yelp). Getting in touch and dropping off my computer were pretty simple - Juan then had it ready the next day so that was great. Turns out my computer had a lot of viruses that corrupted the registries (I have no idea how - I don't click on things I don't know, nor do I click on click-baitey things on Facebook). Juan recommended Kaspersky virus protection for the future. I thought Juan was a really nice guy and he definitely tried to be helpful. I picked up my computer, but didn't start it up for a couple days (I was on vacation) - I started it up only the day before we were heading back to West Africa. Unfortunately, the first start-up, I got the "missing boot drives" error again. Juan had done a full system wipe/restore/data backup for me, so I figured it was just a fluke. I hoped it was. I restarted and it worked just fine. The first thing I did was download Kaspersky virus protection. I obviously didn't contact Juan right then because we were leaving for West Africa the next day - I couldn't have dropped it off to be looked at again anyway and, again, hoped it was just a fluke. The computer continued to work fine for about 2 weeks - and then started doing the same crap again. I now get the blue screen (same errors) and the failed boot drive pretty regularly. That's kind of disappointing since I've been using the recommended virus scan (which has never found any viruses or corruptions) and I'm back in West Africa where I can't take it back in for Juan to look at again. The "fix" didn't even hold up a month. I don't use suspicious software (I don't do torrents, or download things other than for work-related purposes). I spent almost $100 to get it "fixed" and it works about the same as it did before - which is to say it's barely functional. I'm coming home to Austin again in September so I will have to figure out if I take it back here or if I try a new place (edit: I will find a new place for sure now). I'm kind of bummed about it because I really did like Juan - so I'm a bit sad to give him not a great review. read more

Juan is amazing! He's quick and efficient on regular repairs. I took my Lenovo desktop to him (busted hard drive) and he had it fixed the next day. But he can also handle more difficult stuff. I brought my husband's 15 year old Toshiba laptop to him. I thought he'd laugh at me and tell me to take it to the computer museum. But after ordering a new screen and a couple of other parts (which did take a while), the antique is as good as new. I'd add that even though the location is convenient to both downtown and UT -- which usually means that it will be impossible to find parking -- I easily found on-street parking in front of the building.
