Computer Repair Connection - Got my pc back up and running beautifully!

Computer Repair Connection

I recommend the Computer Repair Connection. Turnaround is fast, prices are reasonable, and Juan…read moreseems sincere. It all began when my son disassembled his out-of-warranty MSI gaming laptop ($2200 new) to replace the charging port. Unable to fix it, he shipped the motherboard to a guy who replaced the charging port ($60) but used so much glue the motherboard no longer fit properly in the case--the guy's advice was to drill a hole in the case, which we didn't do. Instead, my son put the motherboard in without closing the case and then botched the reassembly to where nothing worked. (Laptops are apparently harder to repair than desktops.) Realizing my son wasn't cut out for this kind of work, I took his laptop to the Computer Repair Connection. Juan re-repaired the charging port, completely disassembled then reassembled the laptop, reinstalled the operating system, and reconfigured the settings. I got it back the next day for $200 ($99 for the rebuild and $99 for troubleshooting and software install--all labor, no parts), which was more than reasonable for the work required. (I've paid the Geek Squad far more for smaller problems, and they took much longer.) Juan updated me regularly and stuck to his estimate. A week later, after heavy gaming, the laptop still runs perfectly. I would definitely use Juan again. My only complaints, which are small, are that I emailed the shop in advance to see whether they felt the problem was fixable but received no reply; also, when dropping it off, my fiancé mentioned that the keyboard didn't work (a problem that predated the broken charging port), but the keyboard wasn't fixed and no one explained why. (My research suggests it's an expensive hardware problem, so I probably wouldn't have wanted it repaired anyway. It works fine with an external keyboard.)

They transferred our data to this newer machine, installing Windows 11, which resulted in a common problem: only one of us (the original "administrator") could now open their documents. When we went back for help on this issue, the Repair Connection specialist washed his hands from it. He'd been paid already. Beyond that point he didn't seem to care. We ended up finding Frankenstein in North Austin, quite far from our home, but oh, such a difference in expertise and attitude! Problem solved, first trying to fix it remotely and failing, then taking old and new computer to Frankenstein. I do not intend to return to Computer Repair Connection. Maybe Frankenstein will open a branch in South Austin in the future. I would love to have that happen. Sara

What a horrible experience I had at this business. I dropped my computer off on a Sunday. The…read moreemployee (who was a pleasant young man) working that day didn't know anything about an Apple laptop....so less that he had to look on REDDIT on HIS computer to find out how to look up much storage my laptop was using. He had no idea how to find it! Even after reading it he couldn't figure it out. I ended up finding it. I needed a new keyboard because many of my keys were sticking/broken from the laptop being dropped during moving. I picked up my laptop a week later, and unfortunately didn't test the keyboard in the store. I don't use it much and didn't test it right away. A couple weeks later when I used it, I noticed the keys were uneven and felt off. The lighted keyboard also didn't work (it worked when I dropped it off). I took it back in when Gordon was working (different guy than the one on Sunday). What a horrible, unprofessional and smartass employee!! WOW!!!!!! I've had have my own business for over 30 years.......I couldn't imagine treating a customer like he treated me. He insinuated and basically accused me of spilling something on my keyboard. Pressure on keys were still uneven and backlight on my keyboard didn't work. Whomever installed it obviously didn't reconnect.....so now I type with a dark keyboard at night. Yes, I became angry and was appalled at his narcissistic and accusatory attitude. Asked me what the "residue" was on my keyboard. I walked out with my computer so fast and so mad and insulted.......NOTHING WAS SPILLED ON MY COMPUTER, GORDON!! It was their shoddy work and incompetency to install a keyboard that still isn't right!! He was absolutely disgusting to deal with. What a horrible representation of this business. I did call the Austin stores to share the story. According to the Austin stores, they're not connected, but students at Texas State should be warned about the quality of the San Marcos store.

Staff seems knowledgeable and items are priced very competitive to other computer stores around San Marcos. Would definitely recommend taking care of your computer needs here first before checking out larger stores like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. Small in-home store kinda far from "downtown San Marcos" but better than driving to Austin.

The minute I walked in, I was talked down to by an arrogant owner that thought he knew everything and treated like I was an idiot. I had to return with the computer because they had not downloaded a new driver for GPU. They denied it til I showed photo's showing it wasn't installed. They accused me or Windows 11 of disabling the driver. I watched as they downloaded a new driver and installed it, clearly showing no driver was installed. They then proceeded to say, it was there all along, just disabled, totally trying to gaslight me. They would not apologize, would not in any way, take responsibility for the problem. I just smiled and said thank you, knowing I would never go back there again. Save yourself a huge headache and avoid this place at all costs! They do not care about customer service or repeat business.

Do not go to this business…read morewith your laptop or any device that needs to be fixed.  I wanted to get an estimate of what needed to be fixed and how much it would cost to fix my laptop. I submitted an online ticket and dropped off my laptop. I heard no update all weekend or on Monday, so I called on Tuesday morning when they opened at 10 a.m., stating I would be picking up my laptop and looking at other places to get an estimate. SURE ENOUGH someone had picked up my laptop right after I left a voicemail stating I was unsatisfied with the timeframe, received no updates on my laptop, and was taking my business elsewhere. I was charged $50 for someone to "look at it" when I didn't want the service anymore. I had to pay the $50 to get the laptop, and I called THREE different numbers multiple times to stop the process, but that was clearly ignored.  This business is no good for UT students who need their laptops fixed quickly, efficiently, and at a reasonable price. They were going to charge me $300 for service and replacement. In comparison, I went down the street to 1Up Repairs and was quoted $170.  Overall, I am frustrated with receiving no updates, finally getting in contact with someone after the service I did not want was completed, and the service charge of $50 that was not known unless you scroll to the very bottom of the website and then it states it in very small letters. They scam people out of $50 and try to say, "It says it on the website and every time we call." Well, I never received a call back from the 15 calls and voicemails I left until the inspection was completed, so I never got to hear that they would charge me $50 for an inspection.

Everything wrong in that experience was NOT an issue with Jeremy, who actually was able to fix my hardware issues.
