I went to Monkey See Monkey Do for fun with my family. We parked in the parking lot and went in. The store had a lot of stuff that was reminiscent of my childhood. They had some fun squishy items, dolls, action figures, and other collectibles. I felt like a kid in that store. I told my husband that I had to get out of there or I would buy everything. It was a cool store to visit and I will return to buy more fun nostalgic items. read more

My husband and I recently visited Austin and participated in the Keep Austin Weird Scavenger Hunt. This super cute toy store was not on the scavenger hunt but I told the leaders of the hunt that it absolutely should be! This store is a true gem. We were walking past on the hunt for something else but we absolutely had to pop in! Check in on Yelp and they give you a gift! That was super fun and a great way to interact with the staff! My husband bought a Misfits action figure. Super cool because he's never even seen a Misfits action figure before. Super cute and fun toy store off South Congress in downtown Austin. They have an eclectic mix of new and vintage toys. It's a nice variety of toys selection for any age. There's also some touristy Austin souvenirs you can purchase, wall of socks and other items you may not be able to find in a usual store. One of the last great authentic Austin stores! I always come here when I visit because they always have new and fun things to look at and buy. They have tons of unusual and hard-to-find products with variety ranging from nerdy, goofy, funny or just cool. So our whole family ends up finding something they want when we come in. Plus the location is great because it's right in the middle of all the fun and action, with countless restaurants, bars, boutiques and food trucks in the immediate surrounding area. Also, the workers are always super happy and helpful, which really makes the visit a great one. I know the area is getting a facelift with all the new business and money coming in but I sincerely hope this place never changes. read more

With a collection of classic toys, classic toy remakes, and plenty of new things, you're bound to find something for the kids (or you). The best part is, the service here is EXCELLENT and SUPER CHILL/FRIENDLY. This is one of my favorite shops on South Congress Ave. They sell some very unusual items to match the 'Keep Austin Weird' theme. You can spend quality time here exploring. There are always tourists in here and today no different with different languages being spoken in the air. It is a fun place and definitely love the name. Most items are speciality toys and will either find what is currently new or from your past as a kid. read more

This story is my own and it has shaped my view of this place. Feel free to think of it as petty or whatnot, I'm just giving you the reason why I no longer support this business. I used to absolutely LOVE this store. I would come here for the blindboxes and was always eager to see the opened figures they held behind the cash register for trade. For those who are unaware, they put one figure from each blind box that they opened randomly behind the cash register so if you happen to open a blind box in store, you can trade it for the figure behind the register if you pulled a duplicate (hope that makes sense). You can also just simply buy the ones behind the register rather than buying a different blind box from the same series. I walked in one day, eager to get a new figure from a new series of blind box that had just been released, and, as always, I checked to see which one they had behind the register that I could trade for. They didn't have any of this new series back there, so I asked the woman with the blonde hair and the glasses when they would put one there. She tells me they just got the new series in and plops them on her desk, telling me she would be happy to put one up right now so that people could trade their doubles for it. She opens the first box and it is the chase of the series, the one that I was very eager to find myself. I am very excited and ask if I can just go ahead and purchase it and she tells me no and instead keeps it for herself, putting it in her own pile of collectibles she will buy later, at a discounted rate, in the week. For me, that was a very poor representation of good customer service and I feel like that the customer should be able to make the first choice in a situation like that. (Feel free to tell me I'm wrong in assuming this.) Ever since that day, I have decided to not give them my money anymore and instead support Guzu Gallery as they also have a MASSIVE selection of blindboxes and are always super nice and welcoming. read more

This is a neat, little toy and novelty shop. Lots of fun chotskies like fake mustaches and wind up "flippy" toys - you know, the stuff you buy because it's cool and/or funny, take home, sits on your desk for a month or so, ends up in a box, and then you donate it next year? :) It is obviously an affliction of mine that I'm am slowly getting over. (empasis on slowly here-lol!) Also, have some adult type items (e.g., book of Playboy Playmates). Tons of stickers and retro-type buttons. I came in today with my gf after finding them online and we loved the store! They have a huge variety of products and there was a lot to browse around. The employees are really friendly and tried to help us find what we were looking for. Truth is, we were just there to wander around and browse until we stumbled into their Asian mystery figurine rack which we are big fans of. We bought a couple and the staff even offered to switch ours out if we opened it in the store and had a duplicate which was nice . We opened one of them in the store and the employees filmed us for their Instagram. Overall great experience, loved the selection, would love to come back. Covid Precautions: They have someone stationed at the door to maintain capacity which is a necessary task nowadays. Upon walking in they have you sanitize ur hand to maintain cleanliness in the shop which is great. Face masks are of course required and social distancing recommended throughout. Tip: check in at the store and show them to get a mini monkey figurine! read more

The women working at the front of the store were super nice and let me put my bags down behind the counter while I shopped. The store has a lot of vintage-inspired/novelty toys as well as collectibles from some bigger franchises, like Star Wars. I went in just wanting to browse their collection and I ended up buying a vinyl figure that was a Kid Robot and The Simpsons collaboration. They had a small collection of vinyl blind boxes (that you would get off of like Pop Mart) but I think the main draw of this place is the eclectic collection of franchise memorabilia. read more

Boy, was I off! This is not a children's toy store, this is an adults toy store. From the pink plastic money bank Venus de Milo to the 1950's reproduction art prints, Monkey See, Monkey Do has it. It's definitely one of those stores that doesn't cater to the "need" side of your brain but to the "want" side of your brain. It's one of those places I can see myself returning to for a gift and ending up spending way too much money on myself at the same time. read more

I like toys, I like art and I like to look at things that make me laugh. This store has all three. I am forced to compare this store to Toy Joy because they do have some overlap, but both have their own personality and should be visited equally. That's an order. From the minute you walk inside this store and see the big monkey in the corner, you will smile. I especially like the painted murals on the walls. I asked the sweet young lady behind the cash register who painted them and she told me the name of the artist and quite a bit of information without hesitation. I thought that was really cool. I asked if I could take a few photos and she said that would be fine. In shopping around, I bumped into a number of funny things. They carry a wild assortment of items. Everything from sock monkey wine bottle coozies to gag gifts and a variety of books. My favorite book was titled "Things You Can Do While Your Naked". I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this (see photo). I am afraid I didn't buy anything on the first visit, but I will be back. I am on the fence between a finger-operated boxing nun and a smoking donkey cigarette dispenser. I don't smoke cigarettes...he is that cool. read more

Probably my favorite gift shop in SoCo, but mostly because I'm a 90s kid. They have all sorts of random gift-shop-type novelty toys, random stuff like gangsta rap coloring books, super old school trading cards (including Back to the Future 2, Power Rangers, and all sorts of Topps). In the back, there are action figures from the 90s and early 2000s (including Ninja Turtles, Batman and Star Wars Episode 1). Nostalgia galore! The best part is they encourage you to take photos and share them! Just not postcards and the inside of books. Definitely stop by if you're in the area! read more

This store is a great little oddity. Imagine a toy store, but kick up the nostalgia a notch, and the weird by two notches. They have a lot of older (80's and before) toys like original star wars, batman, and godzilla figures, tee shirts of all sorts of genres and pop culture references, and some other much weirder things like "soap for the middle child" or a bird feeder that looks like a horse head!
