Recently visited PrimaDora whiel waiting for my roll-call for a brunch spot nearby and it was an instant love with place and the artifacts. Most of it looked so locale and loved the Texas inspired items, espcially the Texas state chopping board. It would make a lovely gift. Also, the varieties of socks were great. The only down-side is that they're expensive than the regular shops. Definitely check this place out. read more

Located on South Congress, Prima Dora is a fun and eclectic shop with some great souvenirs and gifts, as well as a picture-worthy mural on the side of the building. Nate and I stopped here as the starting point of our walk up Congress towards downtown while in Austin recently. We were heading to the airport later so we had our rolling carryon, which one of the employees let me stick behind their counter while browsing. The store is full of lots of t-shirts, coasters/koozies, art, books, some kids items, lots of things with irreverent sayings, a whole room full of cards - there's a lot to see! We ended up buying a few stickers and a neoprene coaster of the Austin skyline. I had fun browsing and wished we had more room to pack things to take home! read more

Do not go here. I came in after I had lunch next door & wanted to shop. I go to the register to look at rings & as I'm doing that im talking to my friend telling her that I don't feel too well I THINK im getting sick. I dont know if it was the business owner or just an employee, but she butted in to my conversation and screamed at me saying "omg I work in healthcare" and looked at me with disgust. She started slamming doors and came back around saying she was taking a break. My friend spoke up and started calling the lady rude. The poor cashier guy even apologized for her behavior and said it was his first shift there. As me and my friend went to our car, the woman passed us with a mask on and calls me a dumbass loud and clear. If she was that worried about getting sick while it's flu season she should've been wearing a mask to begin with. I wish I would've said yes when the cashier asked me if I needed the receipt because I would've returned the things I bought. As a business owner or manager, whatever she is, this is so unprofessional. God forbid a girl has the sniffles. This was a horrible experience, I would suggest taking your money elsewhere. read more

I used to love coming here to buy my friends souvenirs from Austin, but recently I went and saw a fair amount of products that featured AI-generated imagery, which disappointed me. They pride themselves in featuring art reminiscent of South Austin, but nothing screams Austin culture less than AI generated "art". read more

If you're looking for something unique to take home with you, or something for a gift. I recommend this store. It's located on Congress, which is a popular street to walk up and down on. Lots of other stores to pop in and check out. Please check out the murals located all up and down the street. My favorite mural is the one right on Prima Dora's building. You can also buy a heart shaped lock inside and write a message on it and hang it across the "Love From Texas" mural. You'll see locks in different areas around Austin. Prima Dora is located on South Congress Avenue, look for the large tulip, also right next door to Magnolia Cafe. With my last few days in Austin before I come back to Los Angeles, my husband, our little girl dog (yep dogs are welcomed in this store and our little girl even got a few dog treats from the employee, whom I suspect may be the owner and/ or manager) and I decided to come here this evening, around 5:40 pm, looking for souvenirs to bring back home for family and friends. With limited space in our luggage, I ended up deciding to pick up a few Austin keychains (I love that 2 of those key chains are also bottle openers). But in addition to key chains, there are coasters, posters, clothing, stuff animals, etc. According to the employee helping me with my transaction, this store is like a consignment store in which they team up with local vendors/ artists who sell their handmade wares/ pieces (which is the reason why items in this store may be a bit higher than other souvenir stores). And most recently is a mural that is on the side of the store, Love From Texas (check out the Yelp photos to see it), that was created by one of the vendors. There are definitely some great finds in this store and it is always cool to support local vendors/ artists and small mom and pop shops. This shop is perfect for Congress Ave/South Austin. It's not the tun of the mill souvenir shop. I stopped in here on a whim and I was please. I needed to get a magnet to bring back to a co worker. The cashier was very helpful in explain the options and the prices. I like the variety of items they have here for sale. If you're looking for the usually souvenir items with a little flair of originality this is your spot. They even have original art work that's on sale It's easy to find, you'll have to park on the street however. We were looking for last minute tshirts for the grandkids before heading out to the airport. This place popped up as the closest souvenir store from the Love Austin mural. They only had a small section for kids. They sell quite a bit of miscellaneous items but found it to be on the expensive side. Kid shirts were $26 each, size 4T and 6T. And we got to the airport, found them at 2 for $20. I did buy some cool coaster though at Prima Dora. read more

They have TERRARIUMS! They have SOCK PETS! They also have a continuous 50% off Section for your aunt you can't think of what to get...and don't want to spend a lot. Great card selection. Prima Dora is primo stuff. This South Congress boutique is essentially a gift shop, but the stock is so varied and amusing that anyone can have a good time perusing their shelves. We were on the hunt for dessert one evening and stumbled upon Prima Dora on our way to Magnolia Cafe. The two are directly affiliated - the husband-and-wife team that runs Magnolia will hand over the reins to a new owner as of January 2007. No major changes are planned and the speaker system will hopefully remain intact, so you can shop at Prima while you wait on a Magnolia table. Anyway, I'd highly recommend this store. There's no shortage of gift boutiques in Austin, but they all have a slightly different product to offer. For example, at Prima they have postcards that I've never seen anywhere else in town (even at Bookwoman, which is the mother of good postcards). They also have handmade mugs and frames with fun sayings, some wonderful smelling candles, and a unique selection of stationary and cards. Other highlights? Rosie the Riveter business card holders, Austin handmade soap, exotic body butters and chocolate-covered sunflower seeds. Interesting. And when you're too tired to shop, have a rest on their Tempur-pedic mattresses. Nice. Prima's prices are fair, but certainly not a bargain. Super cool, hip, "Austin" store outside the SoCo area. It's your typical "gift" store but what separates it from all the others is the cool candles(I found out that every store has them) but some super Dazed and Confused coasters and some really cute small "Thank you" cards. Great place for gift buying. Unique gifts for bdays, kids, or yourself. They even gift wrap, which is cool. It is a bit pricey, which is why I took off 1 star. They have really cute shirts and tank tops, but I'm not willing to pay $30 for one. If you're willing to spend a little more for a unique gift, I'd recommend. If you're looking for souvenirs, I'd shop someplace else. They did have a really cool line of "persistent girl" products they just started selling, which was awesome. Cards galore! This is the perfect spot to buy all your ATX souvenirs while waiting in the never-ending line at Mag's next door. They have all your typical stuff, like Keep Austin Weird garb, tile coasters with iconic Austin graffiti, and other essentials that are a step above the "My mom went to Austin and all I got was this T-Shirt" classics. The best part, is they have a loud speaker inside where you can hear if your name is called at Mag's. Prima Dora is well-advertised within Magnolia's walls, so yesterday, my friend and I had some extra time and walked next door to Prima Dora to finally check it out. I can't say that I didn't have ulterior Yelpy motives. Let's be honest, guys. Inside, there were lots of magnets- those kind that have a 50s housewife on it, with a sassy contemporary message pasted crookedly on, usually on manhating or alcohol. There were also some vintage cowgirl pinup magnets with the same kind of messages. There was a cute assortment of purses, but no price tags, which was probably for the best, so I could avoid temptation and resisted figuring out which one I liked best. There was a lot of nice jewelry, but it was a little mom-ish for my taste. I didn't feel old enough to wear it yet. All in all, Prima Dora struck me as a store that was fun to walk around for ten minutes. read more

But I was finally lured in by the Keith Haring-inspired images painted on the windows. And the sale table out front. Let's be real. Lots of really cute stuff here. It has a bit of a different selection than the boutiques farther down South Congress. Lots of wares from local artists, toys and clothes for the kiddies, a great selection of jewelry, a wall of Christmas ornaments, and tons of cards and stationary. If you're looking for unique paper goods, this is your spot. And now that I know what lurks inside, I will probably stop in whenever I'm dining at Magnolia. Probably not good for the wallet. I always gave this store short shrift before...they promote their Tempur-pedic mattresses so much that I didn't realize there were gifty things. I finally broke down and browsed while waiting for a to-go order at Magnolia Cafe (same owners, next door) and was blown away by their selection. They carry a jewelry line called Origin that is so cool and architectural. And CHEAP! $18 for the coolest necklace I've seen in a while...you can't beat that. I snatched up a necklace and earrings for myself, and another necklace for a friend's Christmas present. Have been obsessing about them for the past 2 weeks so I went back today for a necklace for my mom and for $18, I couldn't resist another one for myself! I'm in hog heaven. I think it's safe to say that I will be back for another necklace/earrings set in about a week or so. I'm tellin' you, they ROCK. As for their non-Orbit stuff, some VERY funny books, cool cards, great soaps (some locally made) and the Trapp candles I can't live without. I found a lot of funny, cute, unique stuff. There's a lot of churchy stuff in there. Not sayin' anything against it...I just found it a bit surprising. But I guess it's not as surprising as finding friggin' mattresses for sale in the same place as birthday cards. Wassup with that? read more
