The beautiful objects are still there, but the shop appears to be quite understaffed... and whatever staff there is is struggling to keep up. I genuinely felt sorry for them. This is an ACE hardware store coupled with a tasteful, high end and carefully curated and presented homeware selection, including tableware, gardening supplies, greeting cards, candies and candles and one of a kind objects for the home. A $2,400 candelabra, a Smeg toaster, an excellent selection of flatware, tablecloths and glassware... pretty pajamas, $90 votive candles... But what to do if you want to know the price of that set of Wedgewood china, or the Rialto flatware? Prices are missing on so so many objects. And you cannot find a staff member... And you only have so much time before you need to meet mom for lunch. Ah well. Many of us are trying to ween ourselves off of online shopping. Retail stores... this is your moment to recoup some ground.

My husband went to the Westlake location today instead of the 29th Street location because it was more convenient and came home and told me his experience was like mine -- the staff was unavailable and somewhat dismissive. They told him there would be a three hour wait for gift wrap. Another customer got very frustrated with the lack of help checking out. Hopefully corporate reads these reviews and uses it as an opportunity to hire different managers and/or train the staff better at this location. This has been a longstanding problem at this location but is NOT a problem at the other Breed & Company locations.

Now, the real star: the gluten-free baked goods. We tried four different things, cookies included, and honestly? I was stunned. The flavor, the softness, the balance, nothing felt like a "gluten-free compromise." It tasted like the real deal, maybe even better. Not overly sweet, not dry, not crumbly, just genuinely delicious pastries that happen to be gluten-free. I don't know what magic they're working in that kitchen, but this is easily the best gluten-free bakery I've come across. A must-visit, no question.

Maaribu is modern, cool and…read moreeclectic coffee shop and store where you can have the most delicious cup of coffee along with a pastry or bite. Every piece in the store appears to be intentionally curated. Maaribu melds a home and gift shop with an in house café and bakery, creating an experience that's both relaxing and memorable. According to Mable, my server, Maaribu is a combination of the word Marfa (Texas town that has the Prada store) and Malibu. The brand is often described as combining Marfa's creative spirit, Malibu's laid back lifestyle, and clean Scandinavian design. The shop portion of Maaribu is beautifully styled, featuring furniture, décor, books, and gifts that have a modern flare. All the items are easy to peruse and get drawn in. The use of color is playful and engaging. Maaribu's key highlight is its café and bakery. The in house café has an assortment of coffee, wellness beverages, and dedicated gluten free baked goods. I bought a Rose honey latte, which was divine along with a multi-layer pastry. Mable said customers enjoy the quality and flavor of the pastries...scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and egg bites are frequent favorites. Importantly, the café is reported to be fully gluten free, which makes it a standout destination for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, without sacrificing taste or variety. The outdoor seating and patio area add to the charm, making Maaribu a great place to enjoy coffee and pastries on a nice Austin morning. After years in Austin, I finally discovered Maaribu--a modern, eclectic coffee shop and store. Every item is thoughtfully curated, blending a home-and-gift shop with a café and bakery for a relaxing experience. The name combines Marfa's creative vibe, Malibu's laid-back style, and Scandinavian design. The shop offers stylish furniture, décor, books, and gifts, all easy to browse and visually engaging. Maaribu's café is fully gluten-free, featuring quality pastries like scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and egg bites, as well as wellness drinks and coffee. Outdoor seating makes it a perfect spot to enjoy coffee and pastries on a pleasant Austin morning. Wow...Maaribu!!!

There were specific dimensions to work with and we wanted a painted cabinet with some personality to coordinate with a Kilim patterned rug. Not as easy as we envisioned. Enter Provencal Home & Garden. Lovely furniture and accessory shop featuring a few sale items. Oh look. A dining room buffet that could actually pose as a media cabinet. On Sale. Perfect dimensions. But wait. Incorrect color. Not a problem. I've got a fantastic faux finisher and artist up my sleeve. The staff was more than accommodating and helpful. Provencal Home offers custom furniture, bedding, pillows and accessories in the style mostly dubbed as Country French. Simple, sturdy, attractive items. The cabinet is immediately purchased and delivered to Lakeway. It awaits the magic of that guy up my sleeve. I'll return to post a photo.

I ventured in for the second time after visiting another store a couple of doors down. I had my 17 month old in my arms to avoid any mishaps, although she is very well behaved. However, I'd rather be safe than sorry. After entering the establishment, we were the only customers in there, the two people behind the counter made no attempt to acknowledge us. They, the man and woman, simply looked up and looked back down. I thought maybe they didn't realize I wanted to purchase something. I approached the counter and asked if they sold brackets. The woman looked as if I asked her to please tell me the her thoughts on neurological disorders. The man at least said,"no and you may want to try lowe's." I paused for a moment and looked around, then asked again and explained with a little more detail what exactly I was looking for. Unfortunately, they, the man and women(who remained unresponsive), were no help. I, being raised with manners and civility, said thank you and went on my way. On the way out, I saw a couple of wall shelves, no brackets but an option any sales person with the least bit of interest in helping a potential customer would have pointed out. The store does have lovely items, but I'd rather shop at an establishment that is more welcoming. I hope they do not treat all moms with a toddler this way or Hispanic moms with a toddler. In short, please make sure for future customers you, Provençal Home, come off friendlier and more welcoming not bitter to have to help a customer by answering questions. Not to mention unfriendly towards moms with a toddler in a furniture store, especially Hispanic moms. I truly hope this was not due to my race but to the fact you, the man and woman, are just not very friendly to begin with.
