I can't believe this was my first time here! I've been meaning to come here for the last two years but I usually work this week and this year I'm on PTO! Ugh, everything is so good. I think it's really hard not to leave with something. Parking was a b!tch, not gonna lie but after we circled the block, we got one. The place is huge and I was actually really impressed with each artist's area. The bazaar does a really special job of merchandising the wares in a way that makes them stand out and feel special. The place was packed and while I didn't need anything, I'm planning on going back on Christmas Eve to get some Austin keepsakes since this is my last year in the state. I am on a no buy this year but I would easily find all my gifts here and some for myself too. Don't come on weekends if you can. My first visit was on a Saturday and the parking situation was grim, it took longer than imagined. There was a line out the door to wait as well. The wait wasn't too bad, they definitely expected this and had a plan ready. The person at the door had a little spin wheel with questions and it definitely helped to pass the time. Still, it didn't seem entry made any sense, it's been years since my clubbing days but there definitely wasn't a one-in, one-out system. Once I went inside, limiting entry helped and despite the crowd it wasn't too difficult to navigate but hard to find a specific booth I was looking for. I've been back on weekdays and it's definitely quieter, much more conducive to browsing and even staff seemed much more at ease. I appreciated the handicrafts of some objects and bought a couple and is still approachable but still has that 'weird' vibe that Austin is known for. read more

FABULOUS! My daughter and I had so much fun shopping here. So many unique, creative, beautiful items! The staff were friendly, the area was huge with artist after artist booths. Super unique place to find handcrafted items! They have special holiday items like ornaments and winter themed accessories, but also a great assortment of other gifts. We went on a weekend, so it was super packed and there was a long line to check out. Parking is also busy, but there's street parking nearby and people come in and out frequently. Really fun place to browse items and check out local artisans. There's a ton of selection for art pieces, soaps, even specialty foods. What an incredible turn out!! You all have to swing by and check this out. If there ever was a place that showed Austin unique identity it's inside of this building. Several rows all unmanned booths with product that ranges from beautiful smelling candles to unique handmade jewelry. All of it done by local artists who pour so much effort into their craft and it shows! One of my favorite was the handmade leather wallet. What an awesome market for seeing local arts and crafts goods! There is plenty of parking at and near the building. We walked in on a nice Sunday afternoon. If you grab a little handbrake, most items will fit. There are plenty of wonderful things all along the walls and aisles. It's very casual inside, with a snack vendor with neighboring brewery beers. We strolled around and found quite a few unique gifts, like local honey jars and Auatin gems on stickers. I have always loved this market! Blue Genie is tucked away in a warehouse in north Austin, and has local artist stands, almost like a flea market. There is a huge range of products, from clothing to spices to art to candles. Although I wouldn't consider the items inexpensive, you are paying for the artists' time and work, and it is definitely worth supporting local! If you get there when it's busy, there will be a line to enter, but the people working there are incredibly efficient and friendly. You don't pay at each stand - you pick up the items you want and pay for everything up at the front before you exit. Our out-of-state visitors were seeking some unique Austin gifts to take home for Xmas. We suggested the Blue Genie Art Bazaar was the ticket. Blue Genie reminded me of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar only on a smaller scale. Here you can find soap, candles, jewelry, t-shirts, and prints, all the usual suspects. There is a small bar where you can grab a drink and shop. Our guests scored some t-shirts and Austin stickers. We visited on Friday so parking was not a problem and there is no entry fee! As a lover of farmers market, an art version market is right up my alley! There was so much representation from local artists - wood to jewelry to prints and so much more. There was so much to take in walking in. A huge variety. If you go at night it's a lot less busy. Parking is hard because it is so busy but there's a lot and street parking. All the vendors are local, often specifically Austin-based. It almost feels like every vendor was hand-picked because of how diverse the bazaar is. They have everything: cutting boards, leather goods, jewelry, wall art, handmade wood toys, clothes, tea, candles, glass ornaments, etc. I am certain you could find a gift for everyone you know here. The prices do vary dramatically because this place is a series of stalls and walls from so many different artists--like you could get earrings for $10 at one stall and $80 at another. Uniquely Austin and all local goods. The Blue Genie Art Bazaar has always been my goto spot for the holidays when looking for gifts that really screams out Austin, TX. Glad to see that they've been able to keep up the magic of the place despite covid-19. Just like a Bazaar, the moment you enter Blue Genie you'll see their various exhibits and vendors that they carry. There's quite a range of items including those Catholic style candles of famous figures that make for hilarious gifts for anyone. What an amazing collection of talented mostly-local artists who create a variety of jewelry, art, tea towels, tumblers, pottery, brass utensils, creams, candles, and so much more. After getting a steady stream of various social media postings about 'Hopscotch: Light & Sound' I decided to buy tickets to this special art exhibit. It was located at the Blue Genie Art Bazaar warehouse near the old Highland Mall. Parking was free. While walking to the entrance there was a big sign with the words 'Hopscotch' and people hanging out. Opened the door to notice it was dark inside with only LEDs from the exhibits lighting up the place. I brought my good camera since I new my phone would have an issue with low light. It was easy to check in by scanning the code my email and started to explore the place. This place is a warehouse which is roomy to walk around and has new gender neutral restrooms. There was a mini bar selling water and alcoholic drinks but no sodas. The art exhibits were really cool where you had a lot of hands on activities which I noticed kids were having a blast. From screaming into a mic, climb into a bin of clear plastic balls lighted up, enter a shower of LED lights, digitally coloring a wall and exploring VR. The whole thing was very well organized where it was definitely worth the cost and had a great time. read more

For a long time I've been wanting to make it to Austin this time of year so I could visit the Blue Genie Art Bazaar. This year all the stars aligned and I finally made it! I was very pleased to see that Covid is no match for the magic of the Blue Genie and this premier seasonal shopping venue was open for business. It wasn't necessarily business as usual, but better still, I could reserve a time and be guaranteed entry. The shelves, displays and aisles showcase a variety of artistic creations including alot of Texas stuff and potential gifts for all ages. Prices vary but so do budgets. 2.5 We came here because my friend had fond memories of this place but it seems to have changed. The caliber of artists isn't what it was in past years and we left disappointed. The posters for the place and the realist painter in the back left were the most appealing things there. It's technically free but there was a pretty strong push for a $5 donation to get in. Be aware the bathrooms are gender neutral but it's super easy to walk into the urinal ones when looking for the stalls. Parking fills up fast. read more

The atmosphere of this sort is very local and small business owned, so thankfully it's not an assortment of your usual chain store items that you can get elsewhere. Came in for the West Austin Studio Tour and this place is basically as advertised: an art bazaar. The art and artists here are vast and varied, so no matter what your tastes you are sure to find something that tickles your fancies. It is an open layout w/each artist having their own little booth-space. It was fun to just walk through and see all the different artistic stylings of Austin and even engage with the artists themselves. I even walked out w/a great little handmade industrial art pendant for $20. FREE FREE FREE!! This place is free to get in. All other arts and craft places charge an arm and a leg to get in or for parking. This place doesn't do either. They open for the Christmas holiday season and close for the rest of the year. They have so many different vendors here but the booths are not manned. This means you can shop and/or window shop without feeling awkward or pressured. They have a number system so when you buy something they notate where the monetary amounts should be transferred to. You as the customer do not have to worry about any of it, though! Their selections are amazing. My favorite graphic tee place sells here and the prices are not marked up from her website prices. You can find local handmade jewelry, local art, tshirts, handmade soaps, toys, spunky Austin decor and much more!! My wife and I love to come here and just walk around to see if we find anything fun. We both are not big on shopping but always end up leaving here with at least one or two things we want or need.
