Well first off, it's not a bakery, so don't get your hopes up like I did. They should at least sell some baked items and coffee, because maybe more people would drop in. It's sort of an emporium, I guess, because there's a substantial two-level gift shop downstairs with a lot of handmade items. But it's definitely an art gallery, which is why I visited, to see an art professor's show and hear her talk about her paintings. Admission was free and the building is beautiful and historical, so if you're wandering downtown and are in the mood, you can check it out. Most everything is for sale and reasonably priced. Better than SoCo prices. Free parking is limited to a tiny lot next to the building, but there is metered street parking nearby.

Poor kids been in here since 1879!

I'm not sure if the gentleman who checked me out was the owner or a regular employee. Regardless, he did not have a friendly disposition when checking me out. (I am a woman of color for reference) he didn't even greet me which is a simple courtesy. I had to ask him "hey, how are you today" to which he didn't respond and just told me the balance I owed. My fellow friend (white male) checked out right after me and he greeted him! He also asked him how he wanted his items wrapped. (We both had the same items) If the store itself wasn't so nice and full of good merchandise/gifts I would've given it an even lower rating. To management: please know and remind your employees that even a simple hello goes a long way Edit: This seems to be a trend going years back (looking at reviews) with this business and their discriminatory practices. There are better local shops with less AI slop to patronize

Alright, so it took me about six years to return to this place because I had some major PTSD from…read morean employee (who still happens to work here unfortunately). However, this time was a lot different and I was able to find the perfect gifts for my friend's birthday as well as fun items for myself. It seems like the selection has remained the same although Atown is keeping up with current and modern trends. For example, there were a lot of ICE based items tucked away as well as current celebrity crushes who are on everybody's minds. The coolest thing I found was a James Talarico candle but other than that, a lot of the items that were for sale were pretty kitschy and I believe they are the same wholesale items I have seen before. I must shoutout the incredibly helpful service from Audrey who went above and beyond to help me find items for my friend's birthday. She was super sweet, and I would've been wandering around the store aimlessly if it wasn't for her direction. Additionally, she even came up with combination gift ideas which was pretty sick. Atown is lucky to have her! I think my PTSD is no longer because of her assistance. Great store, unfortunately high prices. However, no one does it like Atown!

There are 3 or 4 separate areas you can visit and they have things from locally made earrings and art to coasters, desk plates, rubber ducks of famous people, religious candles with random famous people, funny socks, clothes, and so much more. The staff is friendly and outgoing, they even had a woman at the door greeting you and offering you a hand basket if you wanted or needed one. There were 3 or 4 cashiers and at least one lady walking around greeting you and seeing if they could help. It is pricier then your chain store but the products are cooler, unique, and many times locally made. Things you can't get at other stores or amazon. Like so many places, it's one downside is parking. It is a small lot, if you part in front you basically have to back in to spot blocking traffic or back out into traffic. There is a small side lot that is better but you basically have to 3 point turn out of that spot. Always willing to pay a bit more to support local. We don't get out of our area/comfort zone much but we do love this place. #Supportlocal

They have a small parking lot on the side, along with a few spots specifically for takeout. As the name suggests, it's also a gift store, which makes the place even more unique. The inside is very clean and modern. I ended up getting a vanilla latte, which was a little bitter for my taste, but it was still a good coffee. My favorite thing about this place was definitely the outdoor space in the back. It's very relaxing and beautiful. The uniqueness of the interior, combined with the amazing outdoor space, makes Maaribu a place worth visiting!

Strawberry Matcha Drink: literally just tasted like strawberry oat milk with zero matcha flavor. If you're looking for an actual matcha kick, may be skip this Coffee Cake Muffin: The flavor was good and sweet, making it a nice pairing with coffee. However, it was SUPER mushy--to the point where I couldn't tell if it was still raw or just severely underbaked texture-wise Almond Bar: It had a decent flavor profile, but the bottom crust made the whole thing very chalky and left a dry coating all over my mouth Cheesecake: Not bad overall, but nothing to write home about Banana Bread: This was the most decent item of the bunch. Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as mushy as the muffin. On the bright side, the gift shop is very cute! I ended up buying a little souvenir to remember Austin by, which was a nice saving grace. Cute concept and a fun spot to browse, but I'd probably skip the cafe menu if I'm ever back in town
