If I liked this place before, I love it even more now. it's reasonably priced and I was able to get some good items. The reason Im recommending this place highly it's because currently I don't have a car and one of my psp movies was missing the cartridge and I called in and asked if it was possible if one of them had a car and could meet me at the Krispy Kreme across the highway since I already risked running across it once already. They were so nice and brought the psp movie to me they are also pretty cool to talk with and ask bout the items in store and the online shop. Service is good but honestly I have other shops that I've been around Austin this is the one with the most expensive price on a Pokémon products everything is itself way over market price to the point that it seems like they don't wanna sell it to you. I love Gamefella's. Its the most legit retro gaming store in town. The prices on some stuff are a bit high and I wish they would negotiate for some of the higher end items, but I get its a store and they have to pay the rent and I'm just impressed with the selection most of the time. They often have deals where you can buy a game and the game guide at a reduced price. I love this. I think they are one of the places that do trades and buy retro and from what I can tell they offer fair value for anything you sell or trade. Dont skip on visiting Gamefells. A good local place for picking up all things nerd. They have a wonderful variety, everything from funko pops, video games, card games, figurines, and accessories. There was a group even playing table top games while we were there, which was cool to see. We found some switch games at good prices. Pleasant service from the folks behind the counter. Wow blown away by this store and their customer service. The employees greet us every time we come in and now that we have visited the store a few times, the greetings are personalized like, "Heyyyyyy welcome back you guys, it's so nice to see y'all again." It gives the Vibe of this shop something special and sets them apart from other stores. They take the time to make each customer feel special and my son loves the place. Last time we visited, we were able to find out that my son from a Facebook marketplace purchase, was actually sold fake Pokémon cards. The employee named Fabian was so kind to my son and really went out of his way to him feel better. He hooked him up with some Pokémon cards and man I can't brag enough abt this shop now. Hello, today I went into your store with my kid and what I witnessed was very upsetting and disrespectful. I overheard one sales associate get very disgruntled with another female worker while she was helping a customer and politely chatting about a certain movie he butted in and got mad and started being very rude to the female worker in front of the customer she was helping and embarrassed her. I would hope for being a small game store all the employees would get along with one another, but this is just ridiculous, and very bad for business for being vocal about certain issues in front of customers. read more

Came in around March 10th to think about buying a 3DS XL and Zelda OIT, and tried of a few of the used 3DS XLs, they fired it up and let me mess with it until I was comfortable, they offered a decent return policy if I had a problem, but never had a problem I have been enjoying the system ever since. I came here to get another PS3 controller cause the off brand one I bought online was crapping out. Wowie, I didn't know they were still pricey, I thought PS3 was becoming obsolete. After speaking to a representative, he suggested I try a remote control for my PS3, I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS A THING. I'm grateful for that gentleman, he saved me 40 bucks and even sold me the one he was using (with batteries included, probably a mistake) to make sure I would receive a working one. Edit* I was asked if I wanted my receipt emailed and so I chose this option, not knowing this is not valid at all. I was told by the owner Bobby that if the game was not what we wanted that we can bring it back for store credit. Not only was the plastic on the PSP game broken (but fixable) the game was not enjoyed so I returned within the time required to switch out the game for another that was a dollar more. Not only was the emailed receipt not good enough they offered to buy the game back for 97 cents. I insisted that it was bad business and I wanted to just get another game and that I had proof of purchase. He refused. I don't think I'll ever step foot in there again unfortunately... yes the selection is great but bad business... Great store! Stopped in to browse the selection and wow I was blown away. At one time, around a decade ago, Gamefellas was probably the best place to go in Austin for video games. They had the mainstream hits, rarities, and even hard to find Japanese imports. Business was booming--so much so that they had a location in Barton Creek Mall as well as a massive headquarters in Northcross Mall (back before it was just a "conference center" and skating rink). Flash forward to the present and Gamefellas is still around, but just barely. The south location, shoe-boxed in a strip mall off Stassney and IH-35, is a fraction the size of some of the older stores. Gone are the hordes of school age kids and hardcore gamers that used to keep the place afloat back in the 90s. Of course, they still have games--just not nearly as many. The prices aren't as cheap as you might expect and the selection for newer consoles (XBOX 360, Wii) and imports isn't very good. Still, If you're looking for something on Dreamcast or Gamecube, they may have it. Blame it on the internet, Gamestop, or just bad business practices, but something happened over the past decade to Gamefellas. It just isn't as relevant as once was and, as much as it pains me to say, may not be around much longer. read more

First a guy started to help me with testing my console I was trading. That was all pretty straight-forward and surprisingly not painful. So far so good, right? Maaan, I thought so too, City of Austin. I thought so too. Then this other gentleman begins to help me. Older, scruffier. He's not as friendly as the other guy but tolerates my small questions and answers them, albeit curtly. I let them finish up my trade-in paperwork and go looking for some games so I could partially use my credit before closing. As i'm browsing, I heard the elderly gentleman... not sure of his name his handwriting is kind of childlike... John? Maybe jack? I'll call him Scruffy for the story's sake. "Ya'll close soon, right?" I verified. "Not till 9:00." Scruffy said. "It's, uh, almost 9:00." I told him, at this point it is 8:51 "But I'll make sure to get this done don't you worry. I turned to browse while he finished the trade paperwork but then stopped, I figured before I went browsing I should make sure it was ok so close to closings I took a moment and went up to him back at the counter with my trades, I said "Hey man I know you close at 9 but i'm only gonna get one or two things with my credit, I won't be in your hair for too long." He didn't nod, but he did look up at me. Scruffy said shortly after I started browsing, "You wanna pick something out fellas we close in a few minutes" At approximately 9:04pm, the time on my smartphone and my watch (OG Casio) I go up to Scruffy at the counter with 2 used games. He hands me a yellow piece of paper, this receipt is to count as my credits. "Better take that." Scruffy said, "Since you're.... leaving." He eyed the door. I held both cases in front of me, "You can't give me a second?" He didn't say a word. He just leered at me. It was a little scary. "We're closed." He said flatly, "we closed like 4 minutes ago." At first I wanted to be angry, and I was, but then I said, "I told you I was gonna browse quickly." "I don't remember that" He said. What. In. The. World. I was aghast. Only because I held this store in the absolute highest regard before that moment. I've never done a 180 on my opinion a store so quickly and so truthfully. Yesterday, I was the guy who told fellow gaming lovers to always go here for used and trade. To me, it was GameStop the way you always wanted it to be: fair trade values and an epic selection. I had only ever been there twice: quick in and out experience both were. This time I actually spent more then 15 minutes there and one of two things happened: 1. An incredibly rude and impotent elderly man refused to let me slide by with a 5 minute grace EVEN AFTER he made sure the biz took me for all I was worth in my trade-ins, which is fine and expected, but all I asked for was store credit so why not return some good will. In the name of customer service 2. Reason 1 was what I first thought happened and i was really upset but then I remembered our interaction and how he seemed tired and forgot certain things I would say as soon as I said them. Then I thought what if this poor man his having issues and can't reach out? He can barely hold a public conversation. Even the other clerk (the nicer one, burly guy like me) seemed surprised that he was saying the things he was saying Reason 2 seems far fetched but I have an Uncle who did the same until our family stopped him... why was I allowed to be treated so poorly? And if the answer is "store closes at 9 bro" well, fair enough, but maybe make the timeline clear before your business gets your obvious profit, but I miss the ability to use my credits, despite stepping into the establishment 20 minutes before close. Even though I let my intentions known to your employees to no response. It was clear that i was worthless to you after the fact. Prepare your customers with some common decency instead of drooling on your polo while you look up the price of a game. (actually happened) After there was enough silence I said "Oh... kay. That kind of sucks." Silence still, "Alright thanks for uh..." and I trailed off and began to walk out. I had nothing to thank him for. He took my stuff and gave me some yellow paper as tender (which is worthless at any other business besides Gamefellas) and then refused to let me use said tender even partially. THEN, icing on the cake, I see the elderly man in the reflection of the glass windows flash the biggest smile, as if the biggest customer service blunder in Austin local business didn't happen, and he waves, "Thanks, hope you come back real soon!" I was literally in that store YESTERDAY telling some other guys how much I loved this place. Now I will not be back after i claim my credit. Please either follow up with this employee's behavior, or revisit the aptitude evaluation you give employees to ensure they are mentally/physiologically capable and do not need assistance from others to successfully complete their jobs. read more

This last weekend my SO and I visited over 25 retro themed game stores between Austin and Plano, TX, and of all those stores, this store was the worst. We even went here twice hoping the second time might be better, but no: 1. The nes and sega games are all stacked on their side well behind the counter, making it extremely difficult to see most of the games. There were a handful of games in the glass counter (mostly repeats of what was on the wall, and many of them turned the wrong way so you couldn't see what they were), but the main bulk of the games were stacked behind the counter. The sega stacks were actually even further back, behind some other crap. How do you honestly expect people to buy your games if they can't see them? No other game store that I've visited does this--many will put the RARE games in the glass case, but the cheaper ones are always somewhere closer. 2. The employees just don't care. No acknowledgement that you are even there. We're standing there 15 minutes trying to see what games they have on shelves 4 feet away but forget anyone asking if we have any questions. 3. When you do finally get someone's attention, it's like they don't want you to buy stuff. Despite there being signs everywhere saying "all games $14 and under half off. All games $15 and up 20% off", the guy argues with us that the three NES games we had (the three Castevania games) weren't included in that special because they were rare. (Which wasn't consistent with their signs AND wasn't what the other stores were doing-- they all gave the specials to ALL The games, no exceptions). I assumed he based "rare" on simply being in the case and pointed out that there are numerous copies of them on the rack with all the other cheaper games too. "They must be copies". Sure. I can't tell if it's deliberately misleading or if the guy was just too lazy to fix the mistakes. So of course we didn't get those games. I really wouldn't recommend this place, or really any of the other ones. read more

If you take a look at my profile i never leave reviews. I really never cared to until today. I went to the location on stassney and 35 with a broken original Nintendo and Bobby helped me get it back up and going. He took the time to diagnose it, sell me the right part, then proceeded to take apart the Nintendo to replace it. I know this shop doesnt usually do repairs so I was really happy when he offered. After replacing the part he set it all up and tested it out before I left. He could of easily sent me along with the part and left me to do it myself, but he didnt. And for that I give you 5 stars for the excellent customer service. If I could give you 10 stars I would. You've just made me a customer for life! read more

I love Gamefellas! Its like the Half Price books of video games! You do not go their necessarily to buy brand new games but to go there to get a deal or to find old school games. You can buy used and older consoles that they do not make anymore. Its great! What more can you ask for!? I have yet bought a game that crapped out on me within weeks and if I needed my CDs cleaned, I can always go back for it. The guy that is usually at this location is very helpful to me. Super nice and remembers his customers! That itself makes a huge differenced in your shopping experience. Pretty often they have a special going on for all DVDs for 50% off or Bluerays at 30% off and the disk look great! I've bought several TV shows and seasons all in there for a good price! If you need help finding something, they are more than willing to do it! Any rarities and if another store has it, he has been willing to get it from another store and bring it to this location. I've had nothing but great experience friendly service. read more

These guys are super nice and helpful! Brick and mortar stores have overhead so they are a little more than online but you get service for that extra little bit. They buffed a game that i bought online and were very nice and since then i have completely stopped buying online and only go here. So i decided to get back in touch with my geeky ways lately and get some games for the ol' xbox. I know, I know "Xbox?" you say? I don't feel like dropping $300 on a new system and then more for games so i decided to check this place out because it's in my hood and a few suggestions. I go in and first thing i noticed was TWO areas of Xbox games! I look a bit closer and see a sign that reads "buy 2 get 1 free" and a few other deals if you buy more. This was the first place i went to and i noticed the typical rule of newer sports games being more expensive. I ended up getting three games for $16! Not a bad gig at all. I went to Gamefellas on 6/2, (Sunday) at 5 minutes to 12pm and they were supposed to be open at 12pm. We sat in the parking lot until almost 12:15pm and they never opened the store. I called store and no one answered the phone. FAIL..... I guess they lost my business by default (and we watched at least one other customer come and go during this time).. Probably won't waste my time going back as they are only open until 4pm most days during the week and believe maybe 6pm on Sunday and I work until after that. Disappointed with this store. My wife and I were passing through Austin last weekend but couldn't shop with them because they closed out the registers 10 minutes before closing (on a Sunday). This is in sharp contrast to their store on the north side that encouraged us to stay and keep shopping well after closing. I got to say. The store and especially the staff have always been great to me and whoever else I've recommended. They are the few stores that actually wants to help their customers. I've gone to the GAMEFELLAS off of Stassney and I-35 for about 5 years. Not once have I felt unwelcome or unappreciated. Bobby the store manager always have taken care of me when I have movies that are hard to find or simply looking for insight on movies/Games. Since they've always followed through with my movie orders and on top of good customer service, that makes them 100% reliable in my book. I recommend yall to go buy or sell your movies/Games to see for yourself. Even if yall want to check out the store and staff, it's worth seeing what they have to offer, especially the systems and awesome collectibles they have.
