So here we are. It's almost May of 2013. The two used desktop PCs we got from Scott are still running like gangbusters! We wound up getting two used PCs from Scott last October. One for myself and one for my son. The one my son got developed a bit of a problem about a month after we got it, but after we got some industrial strength malware zapper software on it and cleaned it up it is fine. He was happy because the OS is Windows XP, which is what he was used to. It is faster than the one he had and though he thought he wanted a quad core for gaming I have heard no complaints nor has he mentioned that again. My PC is still doing great. In November 2012 I was trying to meet requirements for a work from home job and had to take my computer in for a quick check on what the company IT tech called suspicious registry items. Turns out it was nothing and they could be deleted. Computer Medic checked it out and didn't even charge me anything. I also got a quick lesson in setting up another account on my PC so I could keep my work and personal stuff totally separate. How cool is that? I did qualify for the job and my system passed with no problems. Unfortunately I no longer have the job, but that's another story. However my PC is in superb shape and just goes, goes, goes. I have to tell you that in my house our computers are on almost all the time. Mine runs 24/7, though is is set to go to sleep after a short time. The only time I turn mine off is when we have a nasty storm which tells you how often it is turned off. Lol The only time it reboots is after it has an update of some sort that requires it. I use MS Security Essentials in real time and have a weekly system scan. So Computer Medic is still the best IMO. Eight stars, that's five stars, with three additional for pet therapy available at the shop and an environment that puts you at ease. After two years, I finally got another computer, and like any computer it developed a problem pretty soon thereafter. The screen got really dim for no reason. I tried to lighten it, but it never worked. I had moved to Minnesota, so I was no longer living in Austin, but you can bet I thought of Scott as soon as I felt like I needed help. I live in a small town in Minnesota, far from the bigger cities, and I also am very suspicious of the prices people charge to repair computers. Fortunately, I was planning a trip to Austin to visit family anyways, so I shot an email to Scott to see if I could drop by. His familiar office was crowded with dogs and people. It looked like a party. Everyone was chatting happily and I couldn't tell if the people were customers or friends. Scott tore himself away from everyone to have a look at my laptop, and fixed the problem with a frustratingly short series of keypresses. It took him less than a minute. I didn't get charged anything. I don't have computer problems these days, and I don't live in Austin, but I still think about Scott often and how much I appreciate the business he runs. I came back to Yelp to read his reviews, and I'm glad to know he's still doing business and still blowing people away with his mad skills, affordability, and overall sweetness and tendency to treat everyone like humans. When first walking into this business, your a tad bit overwhelmed with all the computer parts and pieces scattered along the floor and tables. I feared that my computer would also be lost and mixed up with all the others, none the less I took a chance being that my impression of the owner was very good and he took the time to stop what he was doing and began scanning my laptop instantly. He was nice and professional and promised to get the work done fast. He did so as promised, it ended up taking one extra day to get it, which was no big deal, but just as I had guessed when I came to pick up my lap top, he searched all over the place for my charger, and ended up giving me the wrong one as he confidently promised me it belonged. So I ended up having to come back the following business day to make the switch. His place is pretty messy but it didn't keep him from doing a great job at the lowest price in Austin. The entire reboot and fix came in at around 50 dollars compared to Best Buys $160 at that was at a special price because I still carried a warranty on my computer. Great honest service with more than fair prices. Definitely recommend this business for a cheap, fast fix. read more

Doesn't get better than this. Ever get that feeling you know you found the place you were looking for when you opened the door? Computer Medic of Austin is that kind of place. I have a small business and 6 years ago commissioned a company (no longer with us) to design a desktop. So when it was time to replace, searched for a viable Computer store. Lo and behold, found this south Austin local business. From the minute I walked in was greeted with a down home and honest assessment of my computer needs. Not only that, Alvin one of Scott's crew put together a desktop for me in no time. In addition, the service was amazing. When I called, Scott provided all info I needed. Alvin came to my office and made sure everything was set up to my satisfaction and beyond. They actually returned when I needed additional parts. The prices were, as folks have said, very reasonable. But the skill, honesty and great deals on quality products are outstanding. These folks know and enjoy what they are doing. After researching on line I decided to take my laptop in to get 1) Fan replaced, 2) New Keyboard, 3) New battery....the model I have HP requires the computer to be taken totally apart to get to the fan because I researched on youtube. I talked to a technician Alvin and he said that they could certainly do this and they would work me up an estimate. The next day they called and told me how much the parts were and approximately how much for the labor. The prices was like 15-20% of the price of a new computer like the one I have so I decided to get it done. The parts took a bit to come in but they soon called me (about 2-1/2 weeks) and told me that it was done. The price I paid was almost exactly what they had estimated. My laptop is like new again and I am happy to have it back because I have it set up the way I like. I would highly recommend this place to anyone needing to have computer work done. I had the best experience I could have had with SCOTT & CO. (including their sweet dogs). I must admit, my request was simple: I was trying to sell a laptop and additionally retrieve data from one hard drive (non working) to an external hard drive, which I wanted to leave to a professional. Scott made a deal with me, an offer I deemed worthy of a high-five. I went back a few times prior, each time, everyone in the office was very friendly, obviously experienced, and courteous. This place is the reason why you don't go to the big, bad wolf. All Hail COMP MEDIC, because they might even offer you a beer while you're waiting!!!! I had a malware attack on my PC laptop and had no idea what to do so I looked up this guy and went by the reviews. It was well worth the drive across town instead of more convenient places closer to where I live. He seems like a one man show and is very down to earth. He lets his dog run around outside which gives his business a more folksy feel to it. Anyway, I brought my laptop in, he said it would be done by noon the next day. It was done, he didnt try to upsell anything (I even asked about increased security for PC, he said it wasnt worth it). That was very telling of him not to upsell on anything even though he had a very willing customer. His price was very reasonable as well and everything worked great when I got it home. I'm a graduate student at UT - and both my laptop AND backup external hard drive crashed during finals week. After getting it fixed by a friend who knows a little about computers, it crashed again. I didn't really want to bring it back to him - I panicked and brought it straight to Scott -based on his awesome reviews. I should have just brought it to him in the first place! The problem was that my friend had forgotten to replace the screws that hold the hard drive in place. Scott fixed it in no time, and was so professional and knowledgeable that I wish I'd taken my computer to him in the first place instead of taking my chances with computer friend. My computer was dying a slow death, and my husband looked around to see where we could take it to get looked at. Scott was pretty much able to diagnose over the phone what was wrong with it, and I took it in that day. He remembered the phone conversation and promised to have the computer finished in a few days. When I picked it up, he said he was charging me less than he quoted because he didn't have to open up the whole computer. He just had to solder some loose wiring, and that was it. He even said he fixed it so that it's better than it was out of the factory. Good stuff! WAY less than other people were gonna charge us. read more

About 3 weeks ago my computer had a problem reading the hard drive. I brought it to geek squad and got it back a week later saying it was malware. I didn't really believe it but I went with it. 2 hours later it broke again just like I expected. I brought it back and had then try to fix it again. A week later we called and asked if it's ready and all they did was look at it. So the next day we went and picked it and brought it to the computer medic. I can't tell you enough how good this guy is. He had it fixed in 4 days. And I only had to pay $30. I highly recommend this guy. He deserves more popularity than he has. read more

When your computer breaks and it is how you make your living it is very stressful. My screen broke, it had a huge black crack covering a good third to two thirds of the screen. I could barely use it. Once I was able to get the money to repair it I was understandably nervous about handing it over to anyone. Computer Medic was the right choice. They fixed my computer quickly and at a fair price. In the age of huge corporations, how lovely to actually drive to an office park nearby and to meet a person and that person is the sole person responsible for the work. In the past it over heated and recently it had been shutting off right after I turned my computer on. After reading a lot of reviews I decided to take my laptop to computer medic. Honestly, the location was a little weird, but don't be fooled. They are very nice and great at what they do! I brought my laptop in on a busy Friday and they called me Monday afternoon and told me it was done! Excellent costumer service, quick turnover and very helpful. My computer crashed and they were able to recover all my data before it bit the dust. No saving that one due to a faulty power supply and damage to the main board, but Scott set me up with a comparable model and backed up all my data. He gave me credit for my old computer and only charged me for the cost of the new desktop since they weren't able to fix the old one. They really know their stuff here. read more

I unfortunately took my computer to another repairman in Austin ..other than Scott. Two weeks after i dropped it off , the repairman had not even looked at it or diagnosed the problem.
