Making reservations was easy through their website. The restaurant sits on a corner with very little street parking. Not much of a view outside (or inside for that matter), when you get inside it's a cozy Victorian home. Plates are placed in the center of the table to share with others (family style) or you can choose to have your own. If you decide to share, I would say the portions are small; maybe for two people to taste. If you have your own dish, the portions are, enough. Not enough to take left overs home, but enough to go home full. All the food was full of flavor and memorable. We will definitely return.
I can't say enough about this restaurant! The setting is fantastic in an old house. Our waitress Elle was also fantastic! She paced the meal really well that we didn't feel rushed at all, but it also seemed like we weren't there that long (it was actually 2 hours 30 minutes). And the food was extremely good. You're supposed to share everything, but I could imagine a scenario where you get your own dishes. We got 4 dishes and each dish was better than the one before it. We started with an ahi tuna dish with these small little puffed rice balls on top. Then we had the watermelon salad, which was good, but in retrospect I wish we had gotten the tomato salad. Then gnocchi with shrimp which doesn't do justice to what it was. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the gnocchi were the perfect texture, and the sauce complemented both perfectly. But the best dish was the pork chop which was superb. Some of the best pork I've ever had. For dessert we had peanut butter pie. I have pictures of the first two dishes and the dessert, and a portion of the gnocchi, but I was too excited with that dish and the pork to remember to take a photo.
Pretty place with lovely eating spaces and interesting food, but didn't quite hit the mark for us. Honestly, we felt the restaurant was somewhat more taken with itself than the experience warranted. Without going into excessive detail about our extensive notes (because everything is subjective and I don't want this review to sound super negative), we found the dishes were fine-to-good . . . but not quite where we thought they should be given the vaunted reputation of the establishment. (I'll note that from the reviews here and the professional reviewer buzz, our take is a minority one.) One thing I'll say in favor of Common Thread: my wife ordered a dish with which she has a lot of experience and the version the restaurant served (while made of high quality ingredients) was not of the preparatory style that she was expecting. The server noted she did not eat it and simply took it off the tab - well and professionally done.
When we first pulled up to this restaurant we thought we were walking into someone's home based on the location and exterior of the home. When we walked in we quickly noticed we were going to be taken very well care of. We each started with a glass of wine and ordered the steak w Chinese broccoli and potatoes (it had a fancier name but I forgot to save it). Let me just say.... amazing dinner! Best dinner we ate the whole time we were in Savannah! Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly and deliciously! We normally don't get dessert but was amazed with dinner so decided to take a gamble with the desert. I ordered the coconut sorbet and fruit compote and it was delicious as well! Truly a fine dining experience with a homey feel. There is an option to sit cook side with a view of the kitchen which we want to try next time we visit! Truly an amazing dinner and great environment!
One of the FINEST upscale Restaurant that I have visited. Hands down an incredible and a memorable experience. Me and my wife took a trip to Savannah to celebrate our 1st year anniversary & baby moon. we visited this restaurant on November 18th, 2025. As soon as we entered we were greeted and since it I had a reservation already for our anniversary dinner. We were seated at a very private place of this heritage restaurant. We loved it. The ambiance and atmosphere were very soothing and relaxing. Service was just exceptional, our server SOPHIA went above and beyond to make our dinner experience top notch. To start we had some drinks which was out of the world. For appetiser we were recommended for a Fall Squash I must say the sauce and the dish was mouth watering. For mains I had Sweet potato and my wife had gnocchi, what do I say every bite that I took could say it was cooked to perfection and it was just mind boggling. Finally, for desserts we had their home made Apple crisp and it was just amazing and the best part is it wasn't too sugary or sweet. It just had perfect amount of sweetness. Overall, I really recommend this place and thank you guys for making our 1st year anniversary so memorable and me being a vegetarian and having so much of dietary restrictions, you guys made it work and huge shout out to the chef, service team and the whole management. I'll surely visit again !!! I can't stop thinking about the food. 10/10
When a restaurant is ran by a farmers, one does not need to contemplate for too long how good it will be. After all, there are only so many ways to mess up a good tomato when slicing it or a fresh oyster that was caught that day. Founders Ryan and Joanne Williamson purchased a 5-acre farm outside of Bluffton, supplying food to Montage hotel. Years later, along with the chef, they started Common Thread and it's every bit as good as the result of such a story should be. Attentive, high quality cooking and excellent presentations. Oysters are spectacular. Carolina Gold Rice is much closer to a quality risotto than anything else. Tuna appetizer is a must. Salads are solid (although sadly the tomatoes are naturally not as rich and tasty as one would think, but that's a very minor complaint). The folks working here from the host stand to the waitress are attentive and kind. And what can beat dining in an 1897 Krouskoff House restored to a new century of beauty. Thus, Common Thread is everything that fine dining should be. Incredibly fresh, unpretentious, generously portioned, grown by dedicated people and presented in a historical relic revived.
My wife surprised me with a "chef's table" dinner experience at Common Thread. And what an experience! Executive Chef Victor gave us a great overview of what we were about to experience... it was almost overwhelming. I think we had a tasting of nearly every item on the menu. I think we had five or six different appetizers, two different entrees, and two different deserts. Some particular standouts were the Tybee oysters, ceviche, soft shell crab, beef tartar, cannelloni, the grilled snapper collar and the grilled steak. Each serving was introduced by the chef. Victor was amazing, as was his entire kitchen team. It was fascinating to not only dine, but to observe the kitchen staff as they worked. The teamwork among the staff was most impressive. Impressive cuisine, and impressive staff. Our experience was five star!
Wife and I drove up from Jacksonville to celebrate our first wedding anniversary in Savannah. It was difficult to pick a restaurant to have dinner at, because there's so many great choices in Savannah, but seeing that the minds behind Common Thread were recently semifinalists for Best Chef SE through the James Beard Awards, it ended up being my choice. I'm absolutely glad I picked it. Walking in, we were greeted with smiles. The house/restaurant was stunning. It was quirky but still had its charm. We were escorted to our table, which was an odd little table halfway up the stairs, away from everyone. We were told that table was meant of anniversaries/intimate events. It felt awkward at first but it ended up being fun people watching and listening in to conversations as people walked by. Colton was our server. He was great. Extremely knowledgeable. He walked us through the menu, offered great suggestions on food and wine, did a proper wine service, and even properly pronounced the region in which the wine was from. Colton definitely made us feel special and gave us an incredible experience. I'll definitely give it to Common Thread. The knowledge in which every staff member presented was incredible. As every person dropped off an item at the table, they accurately described the dish in detail before they walked away. I've been in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years; serving, bartending, and managing numerous different types of restaurants, from casual to fine dining. I've opened up a few restaurants and have been a trainer as well. Common Thread is operating at a high level in terms of the staff's ability. The food: incredible. We started with one of each oyster, and it was insane how much flavor was packed in them. Our first course was also accompanied with the hand roll and the apple beet salad. The hand roll was fantastic. The beet salad felt like it needed some sort of acid/citrus with it, but still had great flavor. Course two was the mushroom cannelloni and the orecchiette. Both were phenomenal. My wife was obsessed with the cannelloni, the butternut squash puree was a perfect accompaniment. The pesto/parmesan foam on the orecchiette was an excellent touch. Course three we went against Colton's suggestion for the pork chop (almost got both, we were stuffed), and got the Ribeye. Great char, cooked perfectly. The peppercorn jus was an excellent topper for it. For dessert, we opted for the sticky toffee pudding. Although it wasn't sticky, the ginger pairing with it was an excellent touch. This is one of the best experiences we've ever had at a restaurant. This will be a staple for us whenever we're back in Savannah and will definitely be asking for Colton again. He is the kind of server I'd like to have at my restaurant. Props to Common Thread, props to Colton.
Visited the Common Thread for my husband's birthday and I have to say this place hit the mark on all aspects. The restaurant is in a restored 1897 house and really delivers on classic southern charm. We tried the ricotta punch & forethinker cocktails and both were expertly executed. We enjoyed our meal immensely - the yellowfin tuna, chicken entree, & apple crumble were all delicious but the true star of the show for me was the gnocchi! It may very well have been the best dish I have had that entire weekend in Savannah. We will definitely be back to try more dishes in the future! Definitely don't miss this place!
We had a mystery dinner and I could not have chosen a better place. The place was beautiful, I believe it was a house converted into a restaurant. This place has two stories which has tables on both floors. The food was great! I decided on the Steak and the ceviche and it did not disappoint! The servers were so kind, would definitely recommend.
A well executed farm-to-table restaurant. Firstly, let me just say the staff is so on point. The hostess were warm and welcoming, the runners were pleasant, and our server Elle executed service precisely. It's clear the staff here is trained with care. We never asked for anything or felt rushed. Everything happened in perfect cadence. We opted for the chefs tasting. I will say I wasn't blown away by everything but overall everything was absolutely fresh and certain things like the fall squash salad and the steak were incredible. The building was built in 1897 (as a gift to the owners wife they say!) but it is well intact. The entire restaurant has a deep aura of traditional southern hospitality. I'm very happy we chose to come here.
Reiterating the reviews that sent us here. Beautifully decorated old home, top notch service, creative dishes, quality ingredients. We weren't sure where to park though.
As I consider our evening at Common Thread what stands out for me was the exceptional service we received. We had reservations at the Chef's Counter and everyone, from the front desk to the serving staff to kitchen team made us feel as special guests. All the better since we were dining in what was once a residence (and an opulent one, at that!). We had the Chef's Tasting Menu and, wow, what a night. Each course was seemingly better than the last. Highlights were the oyster with beet and yuzu, a tuna crude bite, the sweet potato (which included a popcorn topping) and the melt-in-your-mouth medium rare NY strip steak. Caution - the courses may be small but add up quickly. Go easy on the bread (maybe a bite or two) and pace yourself for the wonderful main plates. The best of eating at the Chef's table was interacting with the kitchen team. By the end of our meal they were in "wind-down" mode and had time to talk with us. It was so interesting to discuss things such as daily work routines, menu preparation, favorite dishes and what the staff enjoyed doing during their off-time. What a meal! What a presentation! What a show! Thank you, Common Thread, for a wonderful evening.
We had a great time at the Common Thread! We came in a group of four and ordered everything to share. Portions are on the smaller side, but it was perfect for us because there was so much on the menu that we were interested in. Each dish was very well done and beautifully plated. We were very impressed with everything we ordered. Our favorites were the flounder crudo, squid, ricotta cavatelli. The restaurant itself is very cute and had a very cozy vibe. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Savannah! read more
im always on a mission for two things: good food + good ambiance @commonthreadsav did a great job with both! they use locally sourced ingredients and the menu rotates seasonally. a little history lesson, the Krouskoff house was originally built in 1897 as a wedding present and was later renovated to become the restaurant it is today. I sat at the bar and service was great! _________________________________________________________ here's what I ordered: permit crudo - rose cookie, nduja seasoning, ginger, garlic aioli, orange (this was by far my favorite dish of the night! presentation was beautiful and it was so unique served on the rose cookie) grilled brassica - sunchoke purée, bagna cauda, sunflower seed, pea tendril (I loved the sunchoke purée but this was a little salty to me) congee - nori butter, embered radish, sambal, fried oysters, furikake (there were so many different flavors in this dish which I appreciated and it definitely had a kick to it!) sound bow - mezcal, aperitif, luxaros, lime read more

This place was divine! My husband and I dined here on our last night in Savannah. I loved everything about this place. The ambiance and aesthetics were right up my alley. Their food was absolutely amazing. I loved the la ender soap they used in the restroom, I ordered some from Amazon for my house lol. I would go back to Savannah just to dine there again. 10/10. read more

My friend and I really enjoyed our meal and the ambiance at Common Thread. I had the chicken and she had the swordfish; both were delicious. We shared an apple tart for dessert. Unique wine selection and cocktails too. The restaurant is in an old house and we sat upstairs in the bar area. Lovely experience and friendly staff! read more

Decor was nice and service at the bar was good. We didn't have reservations so we went early to the bar. Tried a bit of everything. Everything was tasty enough, but can't really said this was a place I would return. Nothing blew me away. Favorite is probably hangar steak entree. Well made read more

We had an outdoor reservation on 4 May 2023. We ordered a Claymore and a Bulgarian white wine. The Claymore was very tasty. We shared the delicious asparagus salad and rice porridge. Our entrées were the flat bread and crispy pork pavé. The crispy pork was delicious and unlike anything I've ever had before. The flat bread was good and got better with every bite. For desert we ordered the strawberry pound cake and strawberry ice cream. Both were a perfect way to end a very tasty meal. We will be back to eat at the Chef's table in the near future. read more

Had a fabulous experience at Common Thread a few weeks back. Our service was phenomenal and the cocktails are unique and tasty. The menu changes often, which I love. I recommend ordering several items from each section of the menu and sharing the small plates for the ultimate variety. read more

Oh my gosh, what can I say about Common Thread? We had been to FARM in Bluffton a few years back, and thoroughly enjoyed it. So when we heard that they had opened a restaurant in Savannah, we knew we had to try it. Everything from start to finish- including the immaculate service- was incredible. The old house that's been converted to a restaurant is also a gorgeous setting for an equally gorgeous menu. Some of our favorites of the evening (all gluten free, I might add), were the eggplant steak, the raw oysters, the scallop crudo, and the New York strip. As my husband said "This is hands down the best restaurant steak I've ever had." Run, don't walk, to get a reservation at Common Thread. Well worth every penny. read more

I went to them on their 4th day of being opened. I am thankful that I went. This is one of the newest establishments in the city and we just got a great one. They are from the Farm in Bluffton and I'm so thankful they came into Savannah. This is an old home that has been turned into greatness. Upstairs is where they placed their bar and lounge. The downstairs has multiple dining areas, they have a two top at the midpoint of the stairs which adds to the awesomeness of this place. Their food is amazing. The chef is masterful in their concoctions. The bar staff makes great drinks. Mallory and James are amazing and fun to chat with. Their sommelier, Libby, has made great selections to their wine list and makes this place even better. I hope that you read this and decide to show up and try them. Their atmosphere and what they are trying to create is amazing. This needs to become a regular spot and one that gets frequented often. read more

The best meal we had while visiting Savannah! So glad we asked a local where they suggested as Common Thread did not come up on a lot of searches while looking for dinner places. The food was as beautiful as it was delicious. My daughter and i love trying lots of dishes when we go out. We had the mackerel, grouper, sweet potatoes (hint of spicy), tomato and peach salad, peach brûlée and cheesecake. No dish disappointed but I will be having mackerel in the future and I'm going to start cooking grouper. Oh, and the place is so pretty with great service. Make sure you add this to your itinerary! read more
I made a reservation online the night before I wanted to go. The staff confirmed my reservation day of via text and when we arrived, they clarified I would be at the chefs table. When I asked what that was, it was a 6 course meal. I was not looking for that experience and told the staff, who was very impressive and accommodating. They brought us to a table where we could order off the regular menu. I was thankful because if I canceled the reservation, it would have triggered a $50 fee per person in my party. Nonetheless, our server was incredible. They were very knowledgable on the wine list, and the menu. We ordered their recommendations and LOVED the shrimp flatbread and the scallops. I was told by locals this is the best restaurant in Savannah, and might have to agree-- their flavors are fresh, local, proportionate, and exciting! I'm not a food critic but was very impressed with their dishes and all of the flavors they put together. Truly art! read more

Perhaps Southern hospitality and charm needed to be checked at the door for the manager here. Our Amberjack fish entree came out raw underneath and when I brought it to her attention, instead of apologizing and taking it off the table, she was focused on telling us that the kitchen temperature checks everything. Maybe the thermometer was broken, or they didn't stick it to the bottom. Either way, the inexperience or downright arrogance prevented her from trying to argue. She then said "We will take it off the bill" I asked her to please keep it on the bill, and explained that we didn't come here to eat raw fish to get a free meal but feedback should be given - and she was most offended by that. She said " we deserve respect and after I charge the card I will ask you to leave." I'm not sure how my bringing it to their attention that the food was raw was disrespectful. I'm giving a 3 star because the cocktail was excellent and so was the chicken entree and avocado hummus flatbread. Menu is a bit limited as well. When service is this terrible, it ruins your entire experience. read more
