Solid choice for dinner but it was just ok overall experience. This was one of the few places I could find last minute dinner reservations on a weekend so that's a bonus. Ambiance is prohibition bar vibes so a little more rustic and casual. I was a bit annoyed by the hostess. We had a reservation for our party of 6 and arrived about 15 minutes early. I asked if we could grab drinks at the bar and she kept coming up with excuses on why we couldn't stand or sit in certain areas. Finally, I just asked her to come up with a solution because we had 15 minutes to kill and they didn't have a waiting area. Funny enough, she decided then to get our table ready. It was just odd. Our server was from Ukraine so she was efficient and fast. Not super friendly or chatty with us which missed the mark on Southern hospitality and made our experience feel cold compared to our previous dinner experiences in town. I don't fault her for it though as she did her job. We ordered an excessive amount of starters and some of the entrees. The stand outs for me was the crispy Brussels sprouts, roasted bone marrow, steamed mussels, and grilled octopus. Skip any of the bread options. They weren't even toasted. For entrees, we also decided to share them. The pork chop and NY strip were stand outs. We ended up sending back the halibut. It tasted mealy and freeze burnt. Skip the crispy Japanese eggplant. I was expecting a grilled dish and it was actually fried with a thick batter. Too heavy for my liking. Overall, we enjoyed our meal but not somewhere I am dying to go back to. read more

What a fun find thanks to a recommendation from the middle kiddo. The ambiance alone is enough to make you want to sit and enjoy a meal. The service was excellent; our server, Ashley, was super sweet, attentive, and patient with our mostly deaf and certainly exasperating at times old folks. Rave reviews for the oysters from the oyster aficionados among us. The Cure and the Winter Sangria cocktails were yummy. We ordered salads and mains, too. The beet salad was fresh but underdressed and needed some salt or spice. Similarly, the halibut was cooked perfectly but was under-seasoned and accompanied by a paltry amount of succotash and a thin, bland broth. McDreamy ordered the chicken with collards and gravy. The greens were delicious and he really liked the chicken. We didn't order dessert because we had treats back at our hotel and frankly nothing really jumped off the page as a must have. What is an adorable spot with great interior and nicely stocked bar is in fact just an average bar due to below average food and not terribly prompt staff. I really wanted this to be a 5-star review but it was just not happening. Drinks are good, but it takes a while to get them. I asked for a beer list and was told - they are listed on the wall...well excuse me it is a dim interior and I don't see it.... Grilled octopus tasted fried, while sourdough bread tasted as if it was baked 5 days ago and was just heated up to soften some. Not impressive at all. Prohibition Vibes, Warm Service, and a Happy Hour Hit I was in town for work and needed a bite close to my hotel since the on-site restaurant was closed. This place self-identifies as a "Bar & Restaurant," not the other way around. They take their cocktails seriously, even listing their beverage director Jim McCourt prominently on their website. It pays off. My drinks were things of beauty, innovative, and delicious. But the food didn't disappoint either. In fact Repeal 33 is currently my "best meal ever", a position I expect it will hold for quite some time. I decided on the Progressive Tasting Menu as a way to try more things than I otherwise would. 6 courses, the first 5 decided by the chef and the diner chooses any dessert for the 6th. The portion sizes were about half of normal appetizers and entrees (except the steak which was close to standard) and altogether was plenty, while still leaving room for dessert which was normal size. Drink 1: Bon Appetit: bone marrow infused bourbon Old Fashioned. I was dubious: bone marrow in a cocktail? My very good waitress Carolina allayed my concerns: it's not there for taste but for body and it's only "washed" with the bourbon, not added directly. My curiosity was piqued so I ordered it. This simple classic did not disappoint. Strong, with an assertive oily lemon presence, a single large ice cube, and a curiously distinctive small cherry. A very large whiskey collection is offered. Scan QR code for the list. Course 1: Cod Croquette with Creme Fraiche and Caviar. Lightly golden fried and delicate in taste, elegant served with its edible flower garnish on an elevated plate. Kind of small but the courses get bigger as they go. Course 2: Grilled Octopus (charred eggplant puree, pine nuts, golden raisins, arugula, chili crisp). Beautiful presentation, and I have never had better octopus, not in the slightest bit tough. Course 3: Potato Gnocchi (mushrooms, sage, cranberry, brown butter, parmesan). Light in texture, subtly sagey, and the parmesan in the form of "noodles", somehow with an almost noodle-like texture. Drink 2: Emberline Swizzle (rum, spiced pear, lime, mint, bitters): Similar to a mojito but elevated to a thing of beauty. Everything in perfect balance: the alcohol (lots), the sweet, the sour, the bitter. Visually striking in the glass, layers of colors, the big mint leaves bright and fresh. This is the one that convinced me: mixology is truly an art form, and one in which Repeal 33 excels. Even the ice gets serious attention: each of my three drinks had a different form of ice, appropriate to the style. Course 4: Pan Seared Halibut (cauliflower puree, sweet & sour cauliflower, brown butter caper sauce, sunchoke chips: almost perfect except for being very slightly overcooked. I liked the two forms of cauliflower, especially the subtle pickling of the sweet & sour. Nicely browned top and the crispy chips added interesting texture. Course 5: Grilled NY Strip (duchess potatoes, creamed spinach, horseradish bordelaise): their interpretation of a classic steak house meal. Perfectly cooked medium rare (they didn't ask and I trusted them to cook it correctly), topped with the sauce and micro greens, a generous portion. Perfect potato. The creamed spinach was out of this world. It sounds so unappealing so I usually avoid it. I'll probably continue avoiding it because I can't imagine anybody else's coming anywhere close. All courses were brought at the right intervals (I was never rushed), were served hot and on a warmed plate if appropriate, and new silverware was brought for each course. Drink 3: A mocktail this time. There would be driving in my future. "Peace In the Garden" (Seedlip Garden, lavender, Earl Grey, lime). Same attention to detail as the cocktails, with everything in balance. With the moderate sourness tangy and refreshing I almost didn't miss the alcohol. The room was dim and done in dark wood tones, with the backlit bar and its many bottles glowing warmly in front of the antique brick wall. Unfortunately as a solo diner I didn't get a great view, sitting at a two-top against a wall of wine bottles; probably the table they try to fill last. Watching one of the runners repeatedly emerge from the kitchen, each time in a jog and bellowing "order" was pretty entertaining though. The music was mostly 80s rock: Bowie, Men Without Hats, Funkytown, Blondie. Not too loud, it was in balance with the other sounds: diners engaged in animated conversations and the ever-present clacks of cocktail shakers. From what I overheard of conversations this is quite the "foodie" place. A group near me could be overheard often discussing the nuances of what they were eating or considering. Apparently obsessed with "bone marrow" because those words drifted over to me through the din several times. Two other parties, a couple and a single, appeared to be similarly food-obsessed based on their overheard conversations. Course 6: Pumpkin bread sundae, with gelato, bourbon sauce, and candied nuts. Amazing dinner! A must when in Savannah. Came here for dinner last night and left thoroughly impressed. From start to finish, everything hit the right note. Sara, our server, was an absolute gem: attentive, friendly, and just the right amount of chatty. We kicked things off with cocktails that were chef's kiss fabulous. For starters, we shared the beet salad (made with gorgeous golden beets and all kinds of delicious) and the Brussels sprouts, which deserve their own fan club. Loved loved loved our dinner here Friday night. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated within minutes for our 715 reservation. Our server was amazing and helped with drink & food choice recommendations. We started off with the brussel sprouts, which were amazing & the Whipped Ricotta Toast, was also really good. The Toast was colder because of the Ricotta so it was different but still very tasty. The guys got the old fashioned that was bone marrow infused and loved it. My sister got a regular old fashioned. I had the Elder Swizzle. It has the good ice and was very light. A great cocktail list! They had a special appetizer which after two seconds of describing we got. Think spinach dip but kale but also infinitely better. We had to ask for more bread. Drinks quality here is phenomenal if you getting just straight beat pour or ordering cocktails you'll be very happy with the bar selection. Food wise was great as well only issues was that my heirloom tomato salad wasn't a salad but to be fair the menu said EXACTLY what was in it but for some reason I expected maybe a little arugula none the less absolutely loved it and then the bone marrow we ordered lacked in bone marrow and was more of a snail dish with a hint of bone marrow 80% snail 20% bone marrow.. Pan seared halibut was so buttery and paired so nicely with the buttered corn sauce it layer in. For the first time I can remember, I had a really hard time deciding what to order. The menu is packed with a variety of fabulous choices. Appetizers, small bites, salads and entrees. The descriptions made it hard to decide,they ALL sounded delicious. This is a great Restaurant that has a large well stocked bar and interesting craft cocktails. The service was fantastic,our server, Karolina was attentive and helpful in helping with our dinner decisions. Started with the Sourdough bread and butter. I met a friend to kick off her birthday celebrations at Repeal 33. The ambiance takes you back in time. There is a vintage cash register at the hostess stand, lights are dim, and the wall is lined up with bottles and bottles of alcohol. It gave you the feeling of what places may have looked like during prohibition. I would give them five stars for keeping with the theme; however, they sat us at a two-seater next to a bunch of greenery. We had to move it out of the way to enjoy our food. I felt like they placed a table in the middle of nowhere. Not the ideal spot to enjoy a meal. With that being said, I give them a 3 for ambiance. Charlie was our server tonight. She was average with customer service. She took our order, brought us food, and brought the bill. She came to the table once to see if we needed anything. She did her job, so I give the service three stars. Now for the food. I'm knocking on 4 out of 5. We ordered the bone marrow, which was cooked to perfection. We arrived just a bit early before our time and we were given our table. For larger parties, they have bigger booth seating as well as private sections too. That seemed a bit cool. For our appetizer, we got the whipped ricotta toast. Man was that good. I was skeptical of a pistachio/pesto combination, but I think the honey made the difference. Also, the portion size was very large so that helped. For my main, I ordered the crispy Japanese eggplant. I had my eye on this item before reserving the restaurant as a vegetarian. Initially worried that this could be out of stock, I was instead pleasantly delighted that this was supremely good. The sun dried tomato cream made the difference, but I also felt that this wasn't so heavy. The eggplant and chard did the talking in this meal. I loved it. We started with two interesting cocktails, Miine was described as Smoke on the Harbor, made with a cocoa infused bourbon,banana, and a cinnamon Demerara.... an Old Fashioned variation... warm and tasty. The Great Gal enjoyed a Pear Pleasure, using pear vodka spirit. She loved it. Both very nicely poured by Caroline. Whipped ricotta toast was our hors d'ouevres, accented with a sautéed broccolini, pistachios, and drizzled with honey. Very, Very tasty!!! We then split an almond crusted halibut. I will just write, "Ohhh, myyyyy".... We capped our dinner by taking their dessert of sugar crusted donuts and two cocktails to go to carry back to our Airbnb. We had a business/leisure trip to Savannah and overall nothing impressed us as much as Repeal 33. The restaurant was uniquely decorated and super clean, even the bathrooms smelled good! The sweet hostess Emily seated us and our waiter Jack took great care of us. It was Father's Day/ Sunday so I made sure to take advantage of the bottomless mimosas and Jack was right on top of that for me. My husband however tried many options, from Jack's lager recommendation to a sangria. We had the Brussels, ricotta toast and wings for apps and OMG, they were all phenomenal. Never would I have thought to put so many random ingredients on toast, but let me tell you, it was perfection! All three appetizers are musts! My husband enjoyed his steak and eggs, he did say the sauce on top was a tad salty, but still good. I throughly enjoyed my smash burger that I split with my niece and they so kindly brought them out separated. My daughter also enjoyed her french toast, especially the whip! While walking around in Savannah we decided to stop in at Repeal 33 for a drink and appetizer. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a friendly/helpful bartender who guided us through the menu. The vibe was chill, warm and cozy. For an appetizer we ordered the Elote and it was some of the best Elote I've had in a long time. The appetizer portion was a good size to share with my husband. This Elote tasted soooo fresh and so did all the ingredients. My husband ordered an old fashioned with Buffalo Trace and he said it was really good. We were lucky enough to snag a couple of bar seats for a Friday evening dinner at Repeal 33 & I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Savannah! The first thing that caught our attention was the ambiance. The low lighting, warm wood, & plants in the walls made for what I called an "upscale dive bar" feel. The quality of the food & drinks, however, far exceeded what you'd expect from a divey spot. The cocktails were super inventive & the wine list was great too. For food, we decided to share several dishes - all of which were delicious! We got charred octopus with eggplant, crispy brussels in a tangy dressing, rich bone marrow with snails, & a bass special over a mountain of veggies. Before anything, thank you Caleb from Blown Studios! Had it not been for him, I wouldn't have even known about this gem of a place. That said, I went there being told that the Old Fashioned and that the octopus were to die for, so what did I go ahead and do? Order exactly that! As it stands, I went in without a reservation. Fortunately for me I was alone and snagged a seat at the bar, where I was attended by Charlie, Christopher, and Mark. All very nice people by the way. Anyhow, ordered the Old Fashioned that they're known for, the one with bone marrow, and this was out of this world. Yes, sipping on it at first was a bit odd, but the flavor snuck up on me and I loved it. It was the right amount of bittersweet if that makes any sense. The octopus I then had was so fresh and delightful that I had it all. I'd have ordered something else off the menu, but I had a reservation at a nearby dessert restaurant and didn't want to use all my stomach space for the savory stuff. Had I done so, I'm sure anything else would have been amazing. The ladies next to me had the scallops and the sight alone was heavenly.
